Guest Reviews
- Joyce (8/5): We would love to stay again sometime. - This is a hotel that feels like home. Nestor and his sons Tomas and Herman are friendly and welcoming and want to do everything to make your stay enjoyable. Delicious meals prepared by chef. Lots of space for parking. The beautiful view from the hill is of the lake and mountains. Very peaceful here. It fairly long walk to town. But still quite doable and taxis are inexpensive.
- Miriam (9/5): Superb - Welcoming and extremely helpful staff. Good location and very beautiful views of Lago Argentino and the mountains in the distance. Clean and comfortable rooms.
- Cha (5/5): Ok - Isolated and very far from the city centre, with nothing nearby. Its selling point is the Lago Argentina, but the view is just the west part of lagoon. To reach the hotel, you would need to walk uphill on a dusty road with loose gravel for 2km. Not ideal for ppl with heavy luggage unless with taxi.
A small room with a very very tiny bathroom. The rooms and the dining area are on same level, thus is noisy when guests are getting breakfasts before their morning tours (and dinner time too). Terrible wifi!
Overall, good value if trying to save cost and not fussy abt connection. Otherwise, i see many nicer options on Avenue de Libertor Location and wifi is terrible
- Yvette (6/5): On a very windy dusty road 2km from town centre - They do have a restaurant for dinner and you can buy drinks, but we didn't try that out. Good heating and hot shower. Not a great location, on a windy dusty road quite a distance from town and bus station. Very compact room, with virtually no room between twin beds and would be difficult for larger person to get into the bathroom. No elevator, so wouldn't suit less mobile people. Breakfast consisted of coffee, a small bit of toast, jam and a sweet croisant. Wifi kept dropping out.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jake (8/5): Very good -
- Zuzanna (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect! The family atmosphere at the hotel made our stay unforgettable! The panoramic view of El Calafate and Lago Argentino is totally breathtaking! The room was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast is very good and optionally you can also eat a delicious dinner. It's some distance from the city centre, but actually we really enjoyed the calm neighborhood. Muchas gracias por todo!
- Strombus (8/5): Very good - Quiet neighborhood, nice view to the lake. Comfortable room.
English is spoken. Breakfast was very basic. On the first morning there was a group before us, and their mess was left on the tables even half an hour after they left. There was no one to serve us or to clean the tables, so we ended up taking the leftover rolls, tiny portion of jam and butter from the used tables. Next day at least we could sit at a clean table, but the food was not any better or more.
We were recommended to go to a certain restaurant for dinner, "the owner's son's favorite place". It was a tourist trap with mediocre quality food. Probably it is his favorite because he gets a nice commission from them. There are many pleasant restaurants at much nicer locations, no need to accept the recommendation. The hotel's restaurant is open for dinner, but I would use that only as a last resort, the food looked very boring, and based on our breakfast experience, I would not expect good service either.
- Vasile (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wagner (8/5): Very good -
- Martin (9/5): Superb - Beautiful view into the lake and very friendly and helpful staff Wi-Fi in our room unfortunately didn’t work and we had to go in the reception to use it. perhaps something to be improved.
- Emir (8/5): Very good -
- Kamali (8/5): Very good -
- Zenia Cristina (10/5): Increible lugar!!
- Miguel Angel (8/5): great place - The Calafate is a beautiful town, there are many activities to do, The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the must and The Chaltén another must you do, El Fuerte Hotel has an amazing panoramic view of the city and the lake, the rooms are ok, the food delicious and the service is excellent
- Lou (10/5): - Very attentive the owners and great attitude.
Would return again.
- Alessandro (10/5): - La posizione dell'hotel è fantastica.
- Vinay (10/5): A Home far from home. - It was really amazing. The hotel staff was extremely friendly. Cleanliness was spot on. The buffet breakfast was really good. the view from the hotel was amazing.
I definitely recommend people to stay in here. I haven’t been in a hotel with as good people as this one.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Needs upgrade. but great staff - the bad :
very old hotel. maybe 1 star.
more like 80’s style hotel with old beds and thin walls.
do not get a room close to the reception area its very noist at times.
the good:
Very helpful family running the place
the view from the hotel is amazing
- Edvaldo (10/5): Hotel agradável e harmonioso - Hotel agradável. Simples mas harmonioso. Os funcionários são gentis. A vista é maravilhosa do hotel. Há conforto embora simples. E tudo parece combinar.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Best views. The way to the hotel and food should be improved.
- maria (10/5): - Hptel confortável com linda vista do lago! Muito limpo e com restaurante 5 estrelas, Chef. Martins.
- Mary Ann (10/5): - Owner/ manager and staff are very accomodating. Hotel ambiance is warm.
- norm (2/5): - I turned up to this hotel having booked and paid many months previously to be told there was no room for us.(I cant believe they couldn't have emailed me to let me know) The owner said he ha found us another place to stay and that they would throw in a dinner as compensation. the other hotel was nearby,(and I think would have been better than the one we were rejected from). Expedia should look at there booking system as the owner blamed them for there being no room( I didnt believe that) anyway we ended up staying at Tehuel plaza and I would give it 10 out of 10 and thoroughly recomend it as a good place to stay. the dinners they supplied vere very tasty and seemed like home cooked argantine food
- Jonathan (8/5): Intimate experience with an excellent view - The staff made the experience very intimate and lovely as they were very accommodating to us.
The only slight downside was the size of the room and the fact that people would be turned off by the location of the hotel compared to some closer to the centre.
- Miya (10/5): - The staff were VERY friendly here! We messed up the dates of our reservation and the owners kept the place open just for us! Couldn’t be happier with the service we recieved.
- Keith (10/5): Friendly, helpful people. A decent room. - A good room with a great view. Very helpful people. Only a few minutes drive outside Calafate so ideal if you have a car and only a short taxi ride if not.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Home away from home. - Hyggeligt hotel med god hjemlig atmosfære. Hjælpsom og imødekommende host. Får mine varmeste anbefalinger.
- sophie (10/5): Amazing views - Very welcoming and friendly host. Amazing views over the bay. Take binoculars, you might spot flamingos.
- Herbert (10/5): Etwas abseits aber mit grandioser Aussicht - Ideal für Touren zum Perito Moreno Gletscher
- Verified traveler (10/5): Traumhafte Aussieht - Traumhafte, ruhige Lage.
Sehr freundliches Personal, sehr gutes Preis Leistungsverhältnis.
Wir würden das Hotel immer wieder buchen.
- Noelle (8/5): Great Views but Small Rooms! - Views are phenomenal here & so is the owner, he’a very friendly & helpful. Food & views at the upstairs restaurant are great! But my room was a little small for my taste & felt quite cramped (bathroom door ran into toilet). It’s also quite far from town (not that walk-able), so if you want to be close to town ~ stay elsewhere!
Me
- Brooke (10/5): - I absolutely loved staying here. We unfortunately got in late and had to leave early, but our short time there was great. The hotel is run by a father and son who are extremely kind and welcoming. The hotel feels more like a home and is very cozy. The rooms have high ceilings and the entire hotel is wonderfully decorated. Upstairs, there is a restaurant with amazing views overlooking the town and the lake. The chef makes every meal fresh to order and the food is absolutely incredible. If I am ever back in the area, I am most definitely going to be staying here again; I highly recommend it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Easy access hotel. Great staff - The hotel has an amazing view. Rooms are clean but bathrooms very cramped. Easily accessible as you enter into El Calafate. Perfect stop for the night before flying out.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cosy Stay - It was a cosy hotel with a nice view and the staff was very gentle. We really liked the place and Calafate is an amazing spots in the world.
- Eve (10/5): Very pleasant stay - This hotel is located quite far from the center of the city, but with car it's only better than staying in a busy center. Rooms are not big but super clean. Beds a comfy and breakfast is decent too. the best gem is the owner Gaby, she makes you feel like home. She does her best to accommodate all your needs. Hotel restaurant was closed during our stay but Gaby let us use tableware with the outside food and wine we brought with us. She was super nice and after only 2 nights we felt like knowing each other for ever. She isn't very fluent in English, but does her best to explain every question. Overall we felt very well in this hotel.
- Vicki (8/5): Would stay again! - One night quick stop in El Calafate!
- Verified traveler (8/5): A great option on the outskirts of El Calafate - Nestor and Gabrielle are excellent hosts! A bit far from the city center but the amazing views make up for that.
- Henri (6/5): Beautiful views from the hotel. - Friendly staff, limited breakfast choices and remarkable selection of provided food (f.e. one little container of jelly with more than plenty bread). Windy spot but we ware given a room at the back where there was very limited wind noise.
You should primarily chose this hotel for the view and the friendly staff.
- Elena (10/5): - My husband and I stayed here for 3 days 2 nights! The hotel is very pretty and cozy, more of a rustic look! the beds are not the most confortable beds, will not compare to a Hiltons bed BUT they are very clean, the staff is super friendly and very helpful, it has a gorgeous view to the city and lake, completely serve the purpose for the price! They have a restaurant with really good local food! Will definitely recommend this hotel!!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The service at this hotel was very good and it was clean. However, the rooms were very outdated and the bathroom and hallways smelled bad. We only stayed for one night. Also, they advertise a TV, but there was only 5 channels and they didn't work half the time.
- Lanier (10/5): The Best! - First, let me say I almost never write reviews although I travel for a living. I cant cant recommend this hotel enough. Nestor, the manager, was welcoming; helpful; courteous; and professional. He went well above what I think excellent service is. The hotel, while not downtown, has great views from the highest point in El Calafate. For the price this hotel is a steal. In all honesty the price doubled I would stay here if I visited El Calafate again.
- Mae (2/5): Good view. But that's it - A run down hotel, this place is not worth it's price in anyway. The rooms are small, which is fine, but the windows are small too so you can barely see the views. The breakfast was laughable, even by Argentine standards. The staff were completely unhelpful and rude. I was belittled by the owner and told to be more 'tranquil' because I wanted a taxi quickly. He was very rude and I do not recommend any women should stay there. He is a horrible representation of the machismo man. And does no speak English
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel great view excelent service - Nice hotel, not close from town center but not far. Hotel staff great!
- george (10/5): quiet, great view of the lake, close to town - the staff was very nice, friendly, helpful, made us feel like at home, the food at the upstairs restaurant was great
- annie d (10/5): - Nice location with panoramic views of the lake, city and mountain peaks. Within walking distance to city center. Food quality and service is outstanding.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great hotel. A little far from town, but the dinner that was offered so you didn't have to go into town, was excellent, and reasonably priced too.
