Guest Reviews
- Peter (4/5): Disappointing -
- Claus (10/5): Exceptional - A historical place in an atmospheric environment. The breakfast was very personalized, afternoon tea was very enjoyable. The staff and our host Ross were very helpful and welcoming. The swimming pool was wonderful. Unfortunately the hotel's nearby restaurant was closed for renovations. Nothing else.
- Raja (1/5): Disappointing will probably never recommend this one - The serenity There was someone lurking around at night trying to listen to our conversation bring y
- Scarlett (10/5): Perfect! - The rooms and who setting are beautiful. Good air conditioning and very comfortable beds. The staff, rose in particular, were amazing! It will be great when the restaurant opens later in the summer
- Steven (8/5): Very good -
- Stephen (5/5): Passable - Location as expected and why we booked there. Lack of bar or restaurant was unexpected. Had not updated web site to indicate restaurant was closed for major renovation or we would have booked elsewhere. Staff were great but facilities lacking.
- Yao (7/5): Cute but needs improvement - Feels being transported out of Singapore with the quiet surroundings. Staff was really nice It’s an old villa and there are some issues that come with it: the flooring in our room was uneven at places, WiFi was spotty, and since our room has a semi-outdoor section, there are insects.
- Susan (8/5): Very pleasant stay in a traditional building - but perhaps not entirely suitable for a long-term stay. - Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Lovely traditional building inside parkland. Very nice breakfast included. Nice lounging areas and (shallow) swimming pool. No free-to-air television. No restaurant facilities but eating places about a 10-minute walk away.
- Aidan (9/5): Superb -
- Alexis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roderick (10/5): Exceptional - Staff, environment, service top rated . Thoroughly enjoyed the stay, would definitely come again. Steps up to tamarind need a handrail. And some white/yellow strips to demarcate the 2 steps on the path nearest the hotel.
- Hon (8/5): Very good - Secluded, quiet, comfortable, Jaya was attentive and friendly. There was a tote bag, sarongs, fruit provided which made the stay more comfortable.
Breakfast was simple but adequate. The towels were clean but frayed along the edges.
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Riccardo (10/5): For colonial old charm lovers! - The rustic old colonial charm is the best thing about Villa Samadhi, ive been wanting to stay here for a long time and finally booked myself the Rustic Crib room. The wooden bathtub is gorgeous, the interior design is beautifully curated to retain its rustic-lux appeal. Also, being surrounded by the Labrador nature reserve is nice to go for a walk in the mornig/evening and feel the peace of nature The wifi was a bit sluggish in the room but worked perfectly fine in the library.
- Wenxin (8/5): Very good - Quiet Environment, nice and cozy library, friendly staffs. The in-room dining QR code couldn't be used.
- Peter (7/5): Good -
- Abhishek (9/5): Superb -
- Nicolette (8/5): Amazing staff. Beautiful, serene location. - The staff were amazing and the location is serene. We would stay again. It's a lovely, tranquil green space close to town. Dinner at the connected restaurant was very average and expensive.
- Longy66 (10/5): This should be the first choice of anyone coming to Singapore. - Everything about Villa Samadhi is excellent. Arrival was by way of the MRT (Subway). The Labrador Park MRT station is 500M away. a short pleasant stroll to the Hotel may challenge less mobile visitors so taxi may be better. You have to remember that it will be 30+ degrees and high humidity. Upon arrival at the hotel we were welcomed by Jai/Jay who was excellent. We waited a short time for our room but sat in the Library area with a gin and tonic. The room (deluxe crib) was significantly larger than expected and very well appointed. The bed was huge and very comfortable. Double bathroom with rain shower was great after a day in the humidity. The upper floor room has a table and chairs outside on the semi enclosed walkway and was a great spot to relax. Breakfast is superb. either buffet of a la carte. The decor and atmosphere is very relaxing and is very quiet. It is situated in Labrador Park nature reserve and is surrounded by tropical plants and trees. Dinner at the adjoining Tamarind Hill Restaurant was very good with a wide selection of local and Asian foods. There are other options not to far away near the MRT station.
All in all, The Villa Samadhi should be one of the first hotels I will look at when I return to Singapore. Absolutley brilliant. Nothing. Everything was excellent.
- Jie (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Superb - The peaceful location cleanliness and all the staff were very helpful Nothing
- Kostiantyn (9/5): Superb - black and white historic house experience, in the park, authentic interior, staff really welcoming, amazing breakfast, good value for money. noise from some pump under the window, and no real window in the bedroom (glass door)
- Bhagya (8/5): Lovely stay at peaceful property which felt truly separate from the city, while being just 10 mins away. - Lovely property, feels like it is in the middle of a rainforest, which is lovely. The room and pool were excellent. You can see in to the bathroom/toilet from the bedroom, with no curtains.
- Diane (9/5): Fabulous, quality accommodation in wonderful location - It was beautifully serene with lots of beautiful garden and the rooms were huge, with an enormous comfortable bed and everything you could want, including very effective air conditioning.Staff were so friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. Bonus en site restaurant with delicious food including complimentary full Breakfast each morning Nothing
- Timothy (9/5): Recommend for honeymooners - Antique The location
- Anton (9/5): Great pl - Rustic
Old time vib Na
- Maria (7/5): Not a great hotel for business travel - Beautiful authentic property, surrounded by lush gardens. Lovely to walk around in the morning. Great staff, great breakfast, near the office but far from public transportation. Room was very rustic. High ceilings, which made the A/C not very potent for the summer heat wave. Also, it's an old building so you can hear a lot of noises from the neighbors. Spa hours were 10am-6pm which conflicted with my work hours. I would probably have enjoyed way more if it wasn't a business trip.
- Simon (9/5): Superb -
- Chee (5/5): Not so Bali.. - The staff was the thing that made it great . I like the scented rooms , nice second floor living room , quiet and no children , freshly squeezed juice , birds singing Breakfast was really not up to standard , our baked beans and potato were spoilt when served, food in tamarind hill was so so, food was a bit cold , room cupboard given was too high for us to put anything , toilet could be a bit brighter , for both restaurant and rooms, a chore to walk up the hill for breakfast , wifi was weak ,
- Sivagami (8/5): Very good - My husband & I booked this place to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We simply loved the old British colonial aesthetic. It was beautiful, quiet & peaceful! We were pleasantly surprised & immensely grateful for the upgrade of our room as well! The little pool inside the room was amazing! It helped wind us down after going out & walking around a lot. We haven't had a quiet & chill time to connect with one another in a long time. The staff were lovely as well! As we were leaving, we both wished we had booked one more night. But that just means that we're definitely coming back again for another occasion! This isn't much of a dislike but more of a concern. The floorboards between the bathroom & the bed were creaking & "sinking" in. We're just concerned it may be a hazard for the next occupant.
- Sawyer (9/5): A relaxing green oasis with a 'yesteryear' feel. - Villa Samadhi is a superb little boutique hotel set in the greenery of a nature reserve yet only a few minutes walk from the MRT and bus services. The staff are simply amazing with Rose at the Tamarind restaurant being the superstar of our stay. The setting is beautiful and the hotel has a lovely old-fashioned colonial feel and atmosphere. The rooms are very nice with good sized bathrooms and the hotel is quiet at night with only the slight natural and soporific hum of the nearby jungle. The Tamarind restaurant serves excellent cocktails and has a 'Sunset Hour' every night with 2-for-1 drinks. The bar food and dinner menu are both excellent, but book early to avoid disappointment. The restaurant is very popular. A wooden walkway through the jungle takes guests from the rooms to the restaurant while the pool is in a shaded jungle area that provides a perfect little relaxation spot with both sun and shade. By Singapore standards, the hotel is good value for money. In the interests of continual improvement, I offer the following observations. Please note these are minor and not criticisms. They are designed to help Villa Samadhi make stays even better! Firstly, the swimming pool is a little frayed around the edges with peeling paint in a few places. It is still lovely and cool on a hot day but should be spruced up a bit. Secondly, the western breakfast choices were a little bit bland when compared to the local cuisine. I think most palates would tolerate slightly more seasoning. My advice is go for the local breakfast options - they are superb!
- Tim (9/5): Superb -
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (6/5): - One of the strangest places I’ve ever stayed in.
‘Hotel California’ in Singapore
- Monica (8/5): Amazing room with indoor jacuzzi. Nice breakfast and surrondings. - Amazing room with an own jacuzzi. Would have stayed much longer but the price/night is really high.
Friendly and helpful staff
- Michael (8/5): - Really peaceful feeling. Out of the hussle and busssle of the city. Unique style. Rooms have huge ceilings. Great breakfast. A real getaway.
- Christopher (8/5): Really relaxing. - it’s history. Nothing
- Kevin (4/5): disappointing in the extreme. niche market indeed. - the hotel is gifted with an historic building & verdant surrounds I was advised at 3 days notice the tamarind hill restaurant was unavailable for both lunch & dinner due to a short notice wedding. without the restaurant this is a 2 star facility with 5 star pretensions & price. it has all the warmth & charm of an antibellum boarding house. A refund should be offered & accepted whenever the restaurant is unavailable. dinner in the “library” is no substitute for the restaurant.
- Upeka (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Villa Samadhi is a very special and unique boutique hotel. Most evenings of my week-long stay, I relaxed on the veranda listening to the intriguing sounds of the surrounding nature park. The hotel staff is exceptional, always looking for an opportunity to make my stay more enjoyable -- for example, bringing me a pot of tea on the veranda without even waiting for me to ask. Each morning, I enjoyed a short 2 minute walk to the nearby restaurant serving a lovely breakfast.
Starting at the doorstep of the hotel there are very interesting nature trails that include historical features. Villa Samadhi is villa, not a cookie-cutter hotel and so one should come prepared for some differences such as having a physical key rather than a plastic card key. These differences are part of the charm of Villa Samadhi. I have travelled for 15 years to Singapore on business, usually staying in a Holiday Inn or similar hotel which "does the job" but is mostly forgettable. However, Villa Samadhi will surely remain a most pleasant and memorable experience.
- Druga (8/5): Quiet and Rustic getaway - Its a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. Anyone looking for a tranquil retreat should consider Villa Samadhi. The plunge pool was clean and enjoyable. Service staff were excellent - friendly, attentive to our needs, eloquent and engaging. Breakfast spread was great, however in-room dining service options can be improved. Special shout out to Jaya who hosted us during our trip. Everything was great.
- Richard (9/5): Superb - Wonderfully restful location, exceptional breakfast!
- Béatrice (9/5): a wonderful and quiet place to stay in Singapore - quiet, in the nature but not far from the metro
the authenticity of the building and of the rooms
the kindness of the service
the breakfast is authentic and in a wonderful place the place to store the clothes is limited
too high for small people
- Brian (8/5): Very good -
- Hirman (10/5): Been around Asia, yet this this the most welcoming service and the friendliest treatment we ever exp - Served by 4 uniformed staff (beige top), which exceed my utmost expectations. I can say they are "positively eager" to serve!! Never experienced this extremely pleasant hospitality, even in 5 stars hotels. The staffs are trying to serve beyond their responsibilities, and truly out to make guests feels most welcoming and having warmest treatment. Way beyond awesome service Its hard to intentionally find fault. We are not there to pick up mistakes, but maybe the parking could be reimbursed or discounted, if possible
- Bjorn (8/5): Very good -
- Manon (9/5): Superb -
- Colin (7/5): Good -
- Sophia (10/5): Exceptional - of all the many luxe places I have stayed in Singapore, this is the best - Ten minutes walk from Labrador City MRT station, in a coastal nature reserve this 24 room hotel is a perfect base for a long or short stay in Singapore.
We ended up staying 16 days and loved every minute; some days, we did not leave the nature reserve for the glass and steel of the centre.
The WiFi is good. I had slightly less than perfect connectivity on the first day which was fixed as soon as I mentioned it
There is a decent sized pool in a clearing in a tropical garden. If you’re lucky, you’ll see a cockatoo. Or, hop on the MRT to Clementi for not one but two Olympic sized, outdoor pools.
The food was excellent. All day, international breakfast and a top notch Burmese / Shan / Thai restaurant.
Room service is available although we chose to climb the little wooden boardwalk through the trees to the restaurant, which is in an equally lovely old ‘black and white’ building, as these are known in Singapore.
The staff are all friendly and eager to help one have the most relaxing stay.
I highly recommend the Villa Samadhi.
Go there. Relax. You will leave feeling happy.
- Barbara (10/5): Tranquil and charming - Surrounded by forest greenery, Villa Samadhi Singapore was a welcome escape in the heart of the city. I felt so lucky to discover it my first time in Singapore! The hotel staff are incredibly helpful and attentive and the hotel itself has a charming old world atmosphere which I loved. I especially enjoyed having breakfast on the garden veranda, always delicious and lots of choices.
Nearby walking trails to the seashore are a great way to start the day, followed by a swim in the pool. I will most certainly go back! Can't think of anything I didn't like.
- Felix (8/5): great but a bit remote - the quiet location, superb breakfast, the cozy rooms its fairly remote for singapore
- George (4/5): If you are attracted by the pictures online, would recommend only booking one night first and see. - This is a heritage building in a quiet area. Someone who walked into my room early in the morning 7am while I was in bed. The manager's explanation was housekeeping stuff doing routine cleaning work (7am). Also the property is somewhat lack of maintenance and the location is not the easiest to find. Booked and prepaid for 3 nights, and ended up leaving after the first night. And of course, the manager refused to provide a refund for other 2 nights i didn't stay
- Issdya (9/5): Superb - Location calming and cozy.. The jacuzzi timing
- Marc (8/5): Very good -
- Aidan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dibley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lindsey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cheng (7/5): very quiet place for retreat and layback - quiet and near to nature No shuttle bus provided
- George (9/5): Superb -
- Lena (9/5): Luxury Rustic getaway - Rustic getaway, in the nature minus the bugs and ants. Abit pricey
- Candise (9/5): A convenient place for a city get away - The building and the decorations, furnitures here are excellent. The scenery is beautiful. The location is convenient (6-8 mins walk but with no shelter). We can easily reach here feel that we are out of Singapore.
Things and facilities are clean here. Many spots for instagramable photos. Staff are friendly and helpful. After we checked out I just stayed in the library doing my reading and journaling and they offered me hot tea. They say we can order grab food to eat here otherwise Tamarind Hill offer set lunch at 12noon-3pm (last order 2:xx). I used hot water to make my cup noodle here to enjoy.
No lift here but right after we got off from Grab the staff immediately came and took our luggage.
As this is a historical building don't expext fancy/ high tech stuff. I'm happy with everything because I come to slow down myself, get out of my busy life and do meditation. I don't want any activities and this place is quiet enough. No USB port for charging, no bottle water but not a problem for me. I always bring my traveller plug and water bottle.
No shelter to walk to the restaurant for breakfast but when we were here it only rains heavily while we are at indoor. So it was fine for us.
- Ian (7/5): Overall good, staff attended to our observations and needs. - Selection, and healthy options Hotel Internet connection unstable, attentiveness to facilities for residents moving between hotel and restaurant eg. Umbrellas, location of car parking relative to hotel main entrance. Senior citizens with mobility issues would need help moving between hotel and restaurant.
- Low (9/5): Pleasant stay & Approachable staff from the hotel & Restaurant. Make us feel welcome. - The room is clean & tidy. There were detailed description of the items in the room eg explanation of the hotel, reason the cup is used. There was a welcome letter specially addressed to me which made me feel welcome. I was very surprised that the bathroom is very big compared to the bathroom of a normal hotel room. I like the lights installed at the library on the 2nd floor. It makes the place looks very sophisticated.
Dinner served in the Restaurant was very good especially with the knowledgeable staff recommending dishes. The breakfast held outdoors was very good, especially enjoying the fresh air. It was raining heavily while hving breakfast. Thankfully I reached before it rained heavily. I would prefer room on the 2nd level instead of room on the ground level. The guests of room may open & close the doors of their room loudly, and sound of removal of the padlock after back from eg dinner. Other than that all is very good.
- Alina (9/5): Superb -
- Ronaldo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hui (9/5): Superb -
- Huiyi (8/5): Very good -
- De (9/5): Superb -
- Alex (9/5): Relaxing and Magical stay - The quiet atmosphere and the candles around the venue at night. Nil
- Pan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional - I loved the rustic feels of the hotel Too little amenities
- Joey (9/5): Relaxing - Breakfast was good. You need to preorder a hot meal and there is still some food that you can pick from the small buffet.
Very big on sustainability. No tissue paper provided.
The toothbrush base was wooden, would have preferred a plastic one. Felt very weird.
Pool was closed. Saw older reviews that said it was closed since a while ago. It still hasn't opened. Nothing much to do around the property other than to chill in your room or take a walk in the nature reserve. Only for a niche audience.
Room is old and restored so manage your expectations. Bed/frame was very creaky even when you simply sit down on it.
They don't give bottles of water, only have water in a copper jug and they gave copper mugs. Not too sanitary to me.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - We loved everything the villa had to offer, we would definitely be coming back. Would recommend it to family and friends
- Ong (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sharmila (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): restful, intrigued by its history. warmest kindest staff ever and that includes Tamarind Hill. - architecture! modernizing it was cognizant of its historical roots. kudos to the developer who believed in preservation.
- Crystal (9/5): Superb - A beautiful, relatively secluded villa, with gorgeous colonial furnishings. The staff were very accommodating and helped us decorate for a birthday Would be nicer if there was a pool!
- Kwek (7/5): Comfortable and quiet for a short getaway - Staff paid attention to request
- Fadzil (7/5): Good -
- Marks (10/5): Exceptional - The place is absolutely magical.
If you would like to enjoy peaceful place not far from the centre that's the place to go. Nice lobby with jazzy music and amazing to lay back with a book.
Fountains to medidate around at.
Superb breakfast.
Staff is absolutely the best, all hosts were extremely helpful. A bit distant from the centre
- Margarethe (10/5): Exceptional -

- Bharat (10/5): - Chose Villa Samadhi for a staycation option and it was worth the 4 days we spent there. Went with my wife and two daughters along with my mother. We got two rooms adjacent to each other with a 3-bed option for the larger room. The Villa is very well kept and the rooms are spacious and very comfortable. It is not a resort but its calm and salubrious surroundings were much-needed getaway from the City life. Breakfast was included that was served at the Tamarind which is part of the property, a colonial bungalow converted into a restaurant serving excellent Thai cuisine. We drove into town like tourist enjoying Singapore venturing to malls, restaurants, tourist spots and the Sentosa beach. A much-enjoyed getaway. Mamma Helen was our hostess at the Tamarind and her presence livened up the place. A must visit. Excellent property to explore.
- Courtney (8/5): - Beautiful location and house. Sparse amenities and services.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful place with great staff
- fauziah (2/5): - Worst hotel I ever start.bathroom filled with geckos. Also bees and small fly.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - For what you pay for is a complete rip off.
Rooms are dirty and outdated
- 数右衛門 (10/5): - Surrounded by nature, and classical building. Cozy place
- Dominique (8/5): Beautiful old colonial hotel in the forest! - Surprising isolated colonial hotel in the middle of a wooded hill, near the very center of Singapore. They call themselves a "rustic luxury"hotel and this is a very good definition. The feeling to be in the Singapore of the 1900 years, very nicely furnished, simple but elegant. Another surprise is the location of the breakfast place, quite a distance of the hotel in another colonial villa, with very delicate food. A quiet, beautiful, simple, elegant place where I had the feeling I was alone. I will definitely return there, so different from the 5 stars hotels in Singapore and not much more expensive than an Ibis.
- Keith (10/5): An oasis - Very quiet & relaxing location away from the bustle of the city.
- Bunleng (10/5): - A hidden gem!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - My partner and I stayed at this hotel over a weekend to celebrate his birthday. We stayed at the Sarang suite which was lovely and came with an indoor spa pool within our room. Room was clean and we liked the setting, staying in a colonial building. Bed was nice and firm. Toilet was very spacious. The only negative about the room was the little blue spot light from the air conditioner that was very bright when the lights were switched off.
Staff were attentive and had prepared birthday balloons and a slice of cake for my partner (please inform them in advance). We were also treated to complimentary tea, cocktails, traditional kueh, fruits upon arrival.
Breakfast was served at the verendah of the pretty Tamanrind hill restaurant overlooking the greenery as ate.
Overall, great experience staying in this beautiful establishment away from the city!
- Angela (10/5): - A wonderful oasis of calm to come back to each day after the craziness of the F1 Grand Prix. It lived up to its pictures on your site and even though it felt very isolated we were still within five minutes walk of an excellent transport system
- Lee (8/5): Great place to relax and enjoy a quiet weekend - The location is slightly inconvenient for visitors without a car, but that’s what makes the Villa perfect for a getaway from the city. The close proximity to Labrador Nature Reserve and Keppel Bay is also perfect for an evening walk before dinner. Only downsides were the not-so-clean sheets when we checked in (which the staff quickly rectified and apologised for), and not getting a chance to have a meal at Tamarind Hill (closed for lunch and dinner). It was perfect otherwise!
- Andrew (10/5): Absolutely beautiful and perfect - Extremely welcoming and helpful staff. It is a wonderful place to stay and the most amazing place to wake up to in the morning. Breakfast is served in a beautiful tangent building which is a lovely 1-2min walk away. I'm coming here every time to Singapore from now on!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Awesome place but. . . - Amazing place to relax. Very friendly staffs. Breakfast was delicious.. Awesome room but when I needed to use the hotel water flask, it was dirty like it hasn't been washed from the previous stay. There were leftovers milk in it.. Decided not to use it of coz.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I loved the colonial style, the quiet area and beautiful library and breakfast area at Tamaring restaurant. However not having any facilities like even small gym or pool is a bit of a downside. Even a small pool to relax around would be amazing
- woeihern (10/5): - it's a really nice place away from the usual hustle and bustle of singapore. feels like you'bve been transported somewhere else
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The details in the interiors of the black and white house add to the authenticity.
- Chu (10/5): Perfect Stay At Samadhi Villas - Samadhi Villas was the perfect stay for us as it was a nestled amongst lush greenery where the tranquility provided a great respite away from the bustle of the city.
The rustic colonial decor was classy and the luxury crib we booked was comfortable and well-appointed. The service provided by the staff was top-notch and we always felt pampered and well-taken care of.
We had dinner at the Tamarind Hill where we relished the best Thai cuisine and returned the next morning for our breakfast surrounded by nature in the outdoor seating area.
It was with great reluctance that we had to leave at the end of our stay but we left rejuvenated and fully satisfied with the entire experience.
I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation to Wee for her invaluable help with facilitating my marriage proposal. A big shout out to Joanna too for being our kind photographer and capturing those lovely memories. Thank you Samadhi villas for making it such a special and memorable day for us. We will definitely be back again!
