- Lane (5/5): The place lacked warmth and comfort - Breakfast was not provided - there was no available refrigerator Room modest - no chair to sit in and lighting was poor for reading
Merci beaucoup !
- Valery (10/5): - Accueil très chaleureux
- Alfred (10/5): Excellent - ❤🧡💖👍 N/A
- Catherine (8/5): - Difficulté de rejoindre l'établissement.
- Joris (5/5): -
as de bouilloire electrique
- Nicholas (8/5): - Google location n'arrive the Metro
- jennifer (10/5): - This was a great place to stay in Montreal. We enjoyed the walk to the botanic garden, easy access to the subway and the quiet of the nights. Thank you!
- Dmitrii (10/5): -
- Jewel (10/5): - Nice, small and clean space. Perfect for a short stay. The staff was super helpful, responsive and kind. I would come back here again. Thank you!
- Pierre (9/5): Un bel endroit - Logement super bien situé.
- marionsdx (8/5): A friendly and authentic little pension in a quiet neighborhood - A nice little pension with a friendly and helpful proprietor, in a quieter neighborhood of Montreal, but still within a quick walk or bike ride of lots of bars and restaurants. We enjoyed our stay and would happily come back. We didn't really use the shared kitchen, except for coffee, but it was well equipped. Very close to the metro. We didn't dislike anything, but just be aware it's an old building, the rooms are relatively small, and the walls aren't very thick.
- Daniela (10/5): -
- Biancamaria (8/5): -
- Patrick (8/5): Exceptional property. I would highly recommend it. - Close proximity to the metro and bus system. Exceptionably helpful owner/manager. Very comfortable room with air conditioning. Nothing
- azahara (9/5): Nice place un Hochelaga - The tenant was Warm, pilote, lovely, very very nice person
- susan (8/5): - The owner is very welcoming. The room occupied was clean.
- Barbara (8/5): Cozy place in a nice location - Very nice and cozy place. It is located on a quiet street full of greenery. Great option if you prefer to see some real life in the city rather than staying in downtown or a highly tourist places. I loved that the interior is resembling Quebec spirit. You have to take metro or buses to get to the downtown but both station and bus stop are very close. It's quite a ride but you'll have a chance to see the city on your way, we even had a walk home once (about an 1,5 hour) but the streets are very walkable and safe even at night and it was a pleasant walk. Also the Olympic park (Biodome, Planetarium, Incectarium) is very close and you can have a short walk there. The host is very nice and we had no hassle checking in and out. We didn't have the kitchen even though it is mentioned in the description and eating out is kinda pricy in Montreal. Also the suite is located on the ground floor. It's not completely a basement but a bit humid and you can feel the slight smell. The room was warm though so no issues with that!
- Vladimir (9/5): wonderful retreat - quite place, park nearby, easy transportation (metro), clean room, AC the area near metro is a bit dirty
- Dina (2/5): Wouldn't book here again. - The Nolan room was listed as having a private kitchen, however, upon arrival there was only a shared kitchen with a broken stove. The only way to cook was a MW oven. Given the stay was booked for 6 nights, this was unacceptable.
- Stephen (8/5): Very friendly and helpful host. - No breakfast.
Location very convenient (very close to the metro). Tissue box in the bedroom would've been nice.
Shower was tiny but that was not a surprise. It was OK.
Breakfast would've been nice ...
- Jan (8/5): Very good experience. - Mark was a great host. The location was also very good near the Metro. A blow dryer in the room would be a great addition and maybe an upgraded television.
- Jouliette (5/5): Passable - Location and room were good. I had originally booked a room for 2 adults and 1 baby. Unexpectedly, a third person needed to join for the trip. I asked the manager, and confirmed how much extra charge the third person would be. As we were leaving, the amount he told us we had to pay for the third person tripled. At that point, it would have been cheaper to stay somewhere else. Had he been honest right up front then I would have adjusted our hotel plans. It was very dishonest and felt kind of scammy. Be careful!
- Shaikh (5/5): Passable -
- Maria (10/5): - It is a great place, and the owner is awesome!
- Margaret (6/5): - Very clean and comfortable stay. I would give five stars, but at 10 pm on one of our nights, our host knocked on our door insisting we were smoking inside (?). Neither my partner or I smoke. He said he could smell “either cigarettes or pot” (couldn’t tell us which) was coming directly from our room. We had no idea where this idea came from and made me feel uncomfortable for the rest of my stay. Made me feel unsafe considering the tone he took with my partner, and we considered getting a room somewhere else because we were worried he would decide to kick us out on something baseless. Would not book here again.
- Samuel (9/5): Valuable B&B, convenience traffic - Location is good where is nearby Joliette station, grocery store, restaurants in walking distance.
The bed was clean and comfortable, room is tidy. No extra deposit, very valuable at this price. I requested to reserve a parking lot and a quiet room when placing the booking but had never gotten any confirmation.
During staying, the two parking lots along the street always be occupied, since the attendant didn't mention about parking restriction, I parked to the outside of next premises and got a $97 ticket from city.
The room was arranged at the entrance of the walk-out basement, I heard foot stepping sound from upstairs early as 5:15am.
I stayed for 3 days but only got 2 sets of towel, have called the attendant to get extra towels but got no answer to my phone call. The shower faucet is strangely installed out of the shower enclosure.
- Odette (8/5): - La gentillesse du propriétaire
- Aoun (9/5): Superb - The host is very nice
- Dollaphorn (10/5): The host is super supportive - It’s very clean and peaceful.
- Dollaphorn (10/5): Exceptional - The best place to stay
- Rosalinda (10/5): - The host was very nice and understanding. Cute and affordable place for a weekend trip!
- Patricia (8/5): I enjoyed my stay and would return if I had to stay in East Montreal - The gîte is in a quiet and safe neighbourhood, round the corner from Joliet metro station, walking distance from Olympic park and Botanical Garden. The room was clean, comfortable bed and functional en-suite bathroom. All was good
- Marc (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nara (6/5): Pleasant - no worth money you have paid
- Freedom790132 (10/5): Perfect stay in Montreal! - A "gite" (small familial hotel), 3 minutes from a metro station, 10 minutes walk from the Botanical Garden on a leafy, quiet street. Very comfortable room cum bath, simple, classy decoration, everything you need there, mirrors galore. The bath tub walk-in side low so that you don't strain your legs. A remote for the light. You've got access to the small kitchen for your tea or coffee. And every thing, every room and the kitchen are perfectly clean. And the silence for a good sleep night. The owner is available all along the day and late at night, very nice person! On the whole, very pleasant experience.
- Mohamed (10/5): - The place was calm and the host was helpful.
- Henritta (8/5): Very good -
- Anna (7/5): Good - Close to metro. Great host who is very helpful. Clean bathroom. Everything was fine for the price we paid. The room is small but it wasn’t a big deal. We only slept there.
- Richard (7/5): Host very accommodating to our change in plans - Location Cleanliness
- Mark (10/5): Nice clean and cozy place to stay. - Had a 2 night stay. Room was very nice, clean and cozy. Had a private bathroom which is always nice. Property owner was very nice and helpful. Very close to the Metro for easy access to transportation. Would recommend this for a solo travel and even a couple looking for a place to stay.
- Zynah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roberto (4/5): Not as expected - The position No breakfast, no AC in the room, no possibility to use the living area
- Ray (8/5): Very good - Room was nice and Clean. Bed was comfortable You can park for free but you can not park from 9am to 9pm
- David (10/5): - Quite satisfactory stay.
- Sandra (8/5): - The rooms were nice and clean stay one night
- Davy (2/5): I could not access my room - The hotel called me to say they'd be here late and if they would not be here, they would text me the passcode to retrieve the room key. I showed up at this hotel at 0:45AM. The doors were locked. No light inside the building. I called him twice, texted him and waited 5-10 mins. I had to go somewhere else to sleep. He called me 1 hour later and blamed me for showing up this late. He pretended not hearing the phone call and didnt see my text message. I would not recommend this place as he blames customers for being responsible for his mistakes. He refused to give me my money back. This owner has not good business ethics.
- Hanan (2/5): - It was a terrible experience. I arrived at 4:00 pm, which was the supposed check-in time, but he was not there. When I called him, he informed me that he wouldn't be able to make it until 6:30 pm. It was extremely cold outside, and he mentioned that he had an emergency and wasn't even in Montréal. He should have made arrangements for me to access the key. As a result, I had to find alternative accommodations, and despite not using his place, he refused to refund my money. It was a very unpleasant situation.
I don’t recommend this person. I’m really upset.
- Elizabeth Pawliw- (6/5): - The host was nice but the stay was NOT worth the money. SO expensive for a very low quality room.
The listing stated parking but it was only street parking with limited availabily.
Comfortable bed but slapped together lodgings that were overpriced.
- Marin (10/5): - Wonderful stay. No complaints at all, would absolutely stay here again.
- Julia (8/5): To rest and stay close to the subway - This was a very cozy and easy to get around Montreal spot! I do recommend staying here =)
The only down side: The communication with the owner was terrible because the inn doesn't have a door bell and apparently I didn't knock hard enough on the door, I had to ask a stranger to call the inn in other for him to open the door (and waited almost an hour to do the check in). So apart from that the stay was really nice!
- Tanner (10/5): - Very clean place with newish furniture and linens. Very convenient location as well being next to grocery stores and the metro.
Owner was very kind and easy to work with. Very accommodating.
- kitty (6/5): - It is close to the metro. I don't like it as the room located in basement, kitchen in the common aera and no kitchen range hood.it may smell after you are cooking
- Italia (4/5): - Kitchen was very dirty. Room was and bathroom were kind of clean. The host was not welcoming. It looked like we were just places in a back storage room when a bunch of junk and old furniture.
- Frank (10/5): - Nothing unique about the property. The communal kitchen was not easily accessible (on a lower level with separate entrance and Mark was still working down there). On the whole good value for the dollar in large city with clean linens and a nice clean full bath. Very hospitable host who appears to desire that hi guests are happy. 7.5/10
- OnAir558657 (10/5): Lovely - Great owner operated small hotel. Marc is very genial and helpful. Room tidy and clean. Like access to kitchen area for tea in the morning. Marché Maisonneuve is close by and has delicious croissants, cheese, groceries. Circuit Électrique has easy to use DC fast chargers right at the market -awesome!
- Ian (10/5): - Great owner operated small hotel. Marc is very genial and helpful. Room tidy and clean. Like access to kitchen area for tea in the morning. Marché Maisonneuve is close by and has delicious croissants, cheese, groceries. Circuit Électrique has easy to use DC fast chargers right at the market -awesome!
- Cindy (8/5): - Great location! Close to subway station.
- Kevin (10/5): - I had a great time at this property. It's cozy, clean and very comfortable.
It's ideally located near one of the metro stations as well, which is very convenient.
The landlord is very gentle and accommodating, but also very knowledgeable about the local area, which is perfect when looking for places to go.
I really recommend Le Sieur de Joliette!
- Ahmad (10/5): - We stayed here in Oct of 2022. There was no breakfast or kitchen access like it said in the listing and no microwave in the room (The Hayden) but there was a mini fridge. The room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom (which is your own private bathroom despite lack of photos) was small but nice with a tub and a neat skylight. We called about 30 mins before check in time like it said to in the email and got a nice run down of local stuff to do from Marc when we arrived. We got an unlimited weekend transit pass from the airport which got us to and from the airport and all around the city for super cheap and made being a 2 min walk from the Metro really worth it. We really liked staying here and for the price we'd totally do it again!
- Linda (6/5): while the location was practical and the bathroom was very clean and nice, we would have preferred more private quarters - location, bed, parking, price Property not quite as “implied.” bathroom is down the hall, not en-suite; kitchen/living room shared with other people who seem to live there permanently, fridge full of other peoples food, counter, etc. not cleaned as if we were first users. no breakfast, as promoted. strong cleaner smell.
- Andrew (6/5): - Facilities were fine, though note they don't offer breakfast (as of Sept 2022) but had access to a decent kitchen. Internet in the bedroom I stayed in was spotty at times(2-5mbps).Check-in process was a big pain and very frustrating- there were no instructions to check in other than to notify the host about the time when we would be arriving. Tried calling their phone number 10 times, texted and left a message when I was trying to check in. It said check-in time was 4pm, and 3 guests were waiting outside in the rain for 45 minutes knocking on the front door and calling their number, and no one was there to let us in. Eventually the host came out and seemed to think he wasn't at fault because he was downstairs and didn't hear our knocking on the door or the phone ringing because his phone was upstairs. He was a bit rude about that and tried to make it seem like it was our fault. He could have just been available to let people in at the advertised check-in time, or at least been around his phone, it's that simple. They should advertise that you need to knock on the door to the downstairs apartment if that's the place he'll be to let you in, even though it seemed like the entrance to someone else's apartment, as there is only signage advertising the Bed and Breakfast on the upstairs front door. Very frustrating process checking in, we were about to give up and ask for our money back. Really doesn't have to be that complicated. After that he was nice and everything was all good.
- Liam (10/5): - Pretty nice place, great feel and felt safe
- Aina (10/5): -
- Hannah (6/5): - The place is close to the metro and was clean but checking in was rough. There was a mix up with the rooms and the host got frustrated in front of us by a mistake on his part
- Suzan (10/5): - Cute and functional room close to metro. Nice owner.
- Andrew (8/5): Hot ass water - The shower door got stuck and the shower handle is not in the shower with you. I got stuck inside when I tried to switch it off.
- Sheena (8/5): - Difficult to be in touch with the property manager (wrong cell phone was provided), and the wifi wasn't working well. However, the price was reasonable, it was a short walk to the Metro, a relatively quiet and warm room, a comfortable bed, and hot shower. There is also a kitchen available.
- Cynthia (10/5): - I loved the bathroom ,it has a shower and slight jacuzzi tub and is decorated very pleasing. The commin area us snall but comfortable. The kitchen us well stocked. It has a refrigerator and freezer. The house decor and flooring is homey. The backyard garden area is nice greenspace and comfortable seating. The manager is very accomadating.💫
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A wonderful host. Lovely neighborhood. Free street parking. Close to the Jolette subway station. Full use of the kitchen. Comfortable bed and pillows. The room was a little dusty.
- Anne (6/5): - I liked the neighbourhood and closenessto the subway.
- Maria (10/5): - Very clean, quiet and beatiful place in a nice area.
The owner was very friendly and nice.
- EveLibertine (2/5): Horrible! - Nobody was there when we first arrived (during the usual check in time!) so we went into the City. When we came back later, nobody opended the door. So we had to call the owner and ask, if he could come and open the door to us. He seemed very confused and obviously he didn't even know we were coming! When he arrived at the B&B, after 30 minutes of waiting in the rain in front of the B&B, I told him, that his cat (why is there a cat living in a bed and breakfast, and the owner is living somewhere else?!) pooped on the floor. You could clearly see that from outside through the glassdoor. He just left us standing there without saying anything and came back with a sheet in his hands. He told us, that the B&b is overbooked and that we have to go somewhere else.He took us finally to a youth hostel, and told us something about how expensive the
Hostel is for him and that he has to pay more for that and so on. Of course we didn't believe him, but wedidn't had the time and desire to discuss with him. But we can say for sure that the hostel was not equal to what we had booked in that bed and breakfast. We even had to wash our plates after the breakfast. That was not even close to what we have booked. At least we had a stay for the night.
Keep away from this bed and breakfast and don't trust this host. He is unreliable and unfriendly.
- T7644IJcasselfrank (10/5): Great Service - To be clear, we did not stay at this location as our plans fell through. My review is about the service I received while inquiring by telephone about availability and how things worked. In speaking with the host, Marc, he was very generous with his time and sympathetic to our situation. He was able to accommodate our requests, even going the extra mile to ensure we would be comfortable. If you are considering this property, I recommend you call Marc and speak to him directly so he can help you the way he helped us.
- Jean-Jules (8/5): - It was fine overall. The wifi password should be a little clearer. It took a while to figure out what it was.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A few bugs inside but nothing out of the ordinary.
- g_ntero78 (10/5): We loved the place - Close to the metro Station in a quiet street. Marc is very helpful and friendly. Room is small but clean. We could ask Marc for everything. For me it was the second time staying at this place (I was here three years ago), and i`m sure to visti the place once more when I travel to Montreal
- bananuy (2/5): I booked an airbnb here and they charged me more for cleaning fee than the actual room - I booked a room here and when I arrived the person at the house told me he did not know about my booking. He made me stand at the door for almost 20 minutes while he himself organized the room. He also told me even though I had only booked one night, that I had to pay for two days in cleaning fees. and he repeatedly told me I had to pay in cash, which I didn't have. So he ended up accepting my card. I ended up paying almost 3 times what the quote on airbnb said.
Horrible customer service to be honest. I was in a rush and it was winter and it was at night, I also had bags, so I basically had no choice.
- Ana (4/5): - I made a last minute reservation in expedia, then received a confirmation email and proceeded to go to the hotel. The person was pretty upset, said he didn't know about the reservation. Since they don't have a reception desk I literally stood next to the door for like half an hour waiting for him to decide if I could saty or not. he then returned and told me that I had to pay a 2 day fee for cleaning, which was 30 dollars, in cash. I told him it didn't say that in the posting, it only mentioned a 15 dollar fee for one day since I was staying only one night. He said it was 2 days, and that it had to be cash. Told him I had already paid in expedia, so I had to agree to this extra fee but I had no cash with me, so he took my card and made me sign a receipt. He then made me wait again for around 15 minutes and let me in.
Afterwards, he changed his attitud and apologized but I guess the damage was done. This is not the way you treat a guess, I think you can take it on expedia or the settigns you have with the website. Additionally, this is montreal, in winter time at night, and it was a non refundable payment for 43 dollars. So I basically ended up almost paying a second night with the extra charge and honestly what choice did I have, go around walking in the snow looking for another place to stay? definetly would not recommend this place, it was a very frustrating experience.
- dms666 (2/5): Why would anyone stay here? Awful host! - The sole reason, literally, the only reason my wife and I stayed here was for the location, close to Olympic Stadium for the First Friday Food Truck event on a Friday evening in August 2018.
We would be arriving late afternoon and we wanted to be close to the stadium (walking distance). Our choices were limited. We found this place and although we had concerns, we booked it anyway. We figured, it was just one night.
Well, right away things went awry. We arrived slightly early before check-in (about 30 minutes). The gentleman grumpily answers the door all surprised and very unfriendly. I explained who I was and he disappears into the house for a few minutes before emerging and telling me there was a problem. Not a big deal - the room wasn't ready yet. Fine, we waited around and came back 20 minutes later.
The gentleman never introduced himself, didn't tell me his name until I asked, didn't provide keys until I asked, didn't provide WiFi information until I asked, didn't explain the breakfast until I asked. I mean, this guy is in the B&B business right? Shouldn't this stuff be on the top of his mind? He's done this before, right?
He then explained he has cats. I don't recall reading that on the website! They would meow loudly in the hall right outside our door, which provided zero sound insulation.
The door to our room was a wobbly double french door with poor privacy drapes over the door glass. The window AC was in working order. The room was small but clean. The bathroom was very small with very little shelf space. It was adequate for one night. It was very quiet save for another guest who had a baby with them.
Come morning we waited several minutes after the other guest family had gone into the breakfast room, thinking we could stagger our arrivals. As soon as the host saw us, he mumbled and swore in French under his breath, but we could hear it distinctly. So rude!! Did we do something wrong? Clearly this guy does not know how to deal with guests, especially since the "breakfast" was so basic there was so little he needed to do. So why be so stressed out about two more people coming to breakfast? I don’t recall if he even bothered to greet us.
As for the breakfast, it consisted of a yogurt (with one raspberry), a basket of breads, a small glass of orange juice, and coffee. And it took forever for these items to arrive on the communal table - 10 minutes to get juice, another 10 minutes for coffee, and so on.
This was the home-cooked meal that some other reviewer raved about that was better than his wife made? Seriously?? My wife and I didn't know if real food would be forthcoming. You know, like a hot breakfast with eggs or waffles or something!? When it became clear that that was all we'd be getting, we just wanted to get the hell out of there. We packed up, paid (over $160 incl. tax) and left.
This was a sorry excuse for a B&B. How this business has survived is beyond me. Even more surprising are the positive reviews here.
As for parking, you will take your chances on finding a spot on the street.
I would never return here. Ever.
- Michael (10/5): - Place is beautiful . Couple who own are very kind
- 791geneg (10/5): Best example of friendly service you could hope for! - Our host Marc was amazing. He did everything in his power to make us happy and welcomed us in his home. His breakfasts were better than what my wife and I have eaten at local restaurants in Toronto. Our room was very clean and the bathroom had a jacuzzi. Street parking at first glance sounded bad/difficult, but it wasn't an issue as we arrived home pretty late and there was always a spot. Plus, Marc assured us that if we couldn't find anything on the street, he'd move his own car for us to park in his spot. That's customer service folks. He has lots of rooms to choose from. Book early for the best selection.
He has 2 sweet cats if you're an animal lover. He knows Montreal very well and told us where to go for entertainment purposes. He was always available if we had questions or concerns. Overall, a great stay with an awesome host. Definitely recommended and would stay there next time we decide to visit Montreal.
- 651mattec (2/5): Pretty much screwed my whole vacation - Booking.com refuses to post my scathing review because they're unethically padding reviews.
On Aug 9 I booked a room for Sept 1-4. I call the B&B on THE DAY OF the trip to confirm my arrival time and I'm told I no longer have a room because of some hokey clerical error.
The room was somehow double booked even though I had booked the room nearly a month prior.
What kind of business is this? They either did not notice the error (unforgivable) or they did notice and chose not to contact me for nearly a month (doubly unforgivable)
If I had not called in to confirm my arrival time what would have happened here? I would have driven 5.5 hours from Toronto, arriving at around 10pm, to find that I had no place to stay.
What was supposed to be an affordable central Montreal location BOOKED A MONTH PRIOR turned into a crappy hotel which was more expensive and 25 mins drive from anywhere.
Adding insult to injury, the owner offered to put me up in an inferior room only to call back minutes later to tell me that this other to was also unavailable. And then he offers to put me in some magical folder which gives me a discount on the next time I book a stay at his location? Like I would book a stay there after being screwed out of a place to stay because of a supposed double booking?
Thanks for nothing.
- KAREN (8/5): New experience - It was a new experience we have never stayed anywhere except chain hotels.
Only disappointment was that I thought that by it's name a bed and breakfast included breakfast. There was a kitchen available to make our own meal if we brought food and chose to cook.
- Jon (4/5): Close to Olympic park, clean enough - Hotel is actually a two bedroom basement apartment with small kitchen and seating area. Overall the bedrooms were clean, and the owner was nice. The unit itself had holes in the ceiling and water damage, furniture which was falling apart, potential mold issues in the bathrooms, and unfinished work in the kitchen.
- Paul (8/5): - Nice lady that runs it. Not much english. It's a room in her apartment so not total privacy.
- PianoRayK (6/5): Great stay, but a heads-up... - My wife and I stayed here during a vacation in Quebec. First, let me say that Marc is a wonderful host, and we would definitely stay here again. Having said that, there are a couple of things to be aware of.
About parking: it is on-street parking, and as is typical of a big city like Montreal, it can be hit or miss. Marc says there is parking available, but I had issues with finding an open parking space (note: be aware of the signs; some spaces are for residents only, and you'll get ticketed if you're not careful). Additionally, Tuesday and Thursday are street cleaning days, so you might have to move your car.
The rooms are small but comfortable. We stayed in one of the downstairs rooms. Note: the bathrooms are VERY small! Personally, that doesn't bother me, but again, it's something to be aware of.
It is for these reasons why I rated it 3 out of 5. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay. The Joliette Metro station is within very easy walking distance; my advice would be to leave your car (trust me; once you find a space, you don't want to move it) and take the Metro around town. Marc is a helpful host; he gave us suggestions about where to go. When we told him that Quebec City was our next stop, he even recommended a restaurant in Quebec to try!
Despite the shortcomings, we have a very pleasant stay, and would definitely stay here again!
