Guest Reviews
- Susan (10/5): - The staff was so helpful and friendly. The diving was efficient and the dive masters were experts at finding treasures beneath the sea. Seeing the majestic Thresher Sharks was a once in a lifetime experience. The food and drinks were reasonable and delicious. Thanks to all who made our stay so memorable.
- Sébastien (2/5): No reaction after 3-day booking during bad weather - I booked 3 days in Thresher Cove Dive Resort. However when I made it to the port in Maya to transfer to the island, the coast guard had shut down all ferries because of a typhoon level 1 (typhoon didn’t hit the island, only bad weather). Even though this was known by the hotel, they didn’t get in touch, warn me, helped out or suggested a solution or a refund. Basically no effort whatsoever. Emails were not answered either. Feel free to stay with someone else on the island.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great spot
Salt water only for shower
Food is great!
- Michelle (10/5): Great little chill and dive spot! - Awesome staff, friendly and accommodating :) the shared dorm was nice, showers have a slight salt content. Food was good and cheap at the restaurant! I recommend Thresher Cove! Great place to dive and chill
- Natasha (10/5): Lovely quiet, small resort - The whole journey getting the resort was lovely. The welcome was pleasant as we arrived late it was an easy check in. The staff are kind, food was delicious.
I didn’t go with the intention of learning to dive but my experience of the introductory scuba was good and the instructor fun.
I am now back in the city and just wish to return.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hotel is geared toward divers no night life no restaurant close by and the ones that are there are very small very bad WiFi good food it takes a while to get it beach is small and full of small shells can’t lay on it
- Russell (10/5): Really great Malapascua dive resort. - We first stayed at the cabana 3( small room, double bed, fan) the adjuster for the fan to stay still was broken, but we fixed it and we found out there was no air conditioning and no free breakfast. The breakfast was not really that much of a issue, but the no air conditioning made us both feel like sweat machines, haha. Needless to say we upgraded our room(Deluxe) for the next night and it happened to be a more roomy, spacious, AC controlled room w/sink, shower, tv, and mini-bar.
The local area is a tropical area hit by hurricane yolanda, so be aware and don't expect it to be high end buildings, so on. The locals are very friendly and so is the staff.
Definitely recommend this area for beautiful, comfortable stay, especially for divers and non-experienced divers.
You may have to go to the restraunt/bar to eat, shower, and toilet for some of the rooms. Every room is close to the beach too.
I would add photos but going through mobile browser not allowing me. Will try again later.
- Ryan (8/5): Best all in one budget resort on the island - Great little resort. Super friendly staff that will remember you by name. Convienent resterant on site that does a tab system so you can pay a total bill at the end of your stay. The resort is a 20 min walk to the little city so I ate all meals on site. Great dive staff as well and completed extra courses. Saw the thresher sharks. Amazing. Towels are provided. Warm showers. Dorms have AC.
- Steve (6/5): Gotcha - The Thresher Cove website makes this place look much better than it is in person. Location is very far from town so if you want access to some of the better restaurants in the area, you'll have to walk or hire a motorbike to get to town. Granted, I did not dive this time as I was with my girlfriend and she is not a diver. My guess is if you are focusing on diving rather than vacationing, you'll be much happier. If you are not diving, I don't recommend this hotel. We paid $90 for a room that would have been $30 on most similar remote islands in the Philippines and in fact was only $30 at the resorts in town. It was a basic aircon, hot water set up. Very basic. The island has no cars so everyone walks or uses motorbikes to get around the narrow trails that zigzag the island. Beaches are great.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Kanon! - Kanon hotell med bra hotellpersonal och restaurang!
- helge log (6/5): Fint for backpackere - nydelig øy
- Verified traveler (2/5): IMPORTANT TO KNOW - Hello everyone, I just want to explain the experience at "thresere cove resort" in malapascua. The place and the resort is very nice and peaceful. But unfortunately I can not say the same about the service.
1- I arrived on 13th of december, they offer me to join them with the staff "dinner party"(250php, pp) (it was at 10am)I thought was just and option... then I asked if the kitchen will be open for the dinner time just in., some of the staff said yes. The surprise came when I wanted to have a lunch at 13:30 and the staff said that the kitchen was closed cause of the dinner party.sorryyyyy!?!?!?!? I had to eat outside of the resort..(you have to pay a transport to go another place) They call that please resort when can not manage a kitch. for a 80people??? So I had to join the dinner...
Greatfully I took advantage of that and I went to ging ging restaurant, the diference between them:
Ging ging:fried rice with chicken and veg.65php 1'15€
THRESERE COVE RESORT: omelette ham and cheese. 160php 3€
2-Restaurant: The food is good but waitresses they are not very professional and a little bit lazy.
I ask a coffe and they gave a nescafe coffe bag( I ask for a normal like filter coffe) but waitress said there is not a filter coffe... Okey no problem. Now, how would you feel if another costumers ask for a filter coffe and they have it? That's what happened!! Then I ask for a filter coffe again and they didn't wanted to give me it. Unbelievable!!!!is that a properly service?
- Laura (10/5): Perfect for divers - It is the ideal place to go if you are planning to dive. Professional people as well as friendly.
- Aki (8/5): 秘密の隠れ家 - アクセス以外は満点です。
オプショナルツアー等は全てフロントで手配出来ます。従業員は皆良く教育されており、快適です。
- Roel A (8/5): awesome stay - had a great time at the property, staffs are accommodating.
- Michelle (10/5): The most serene place around.. - The experience was nice, we were fetch by a motorbike driver from the hotel the moment we arrive in Malapascua. Welcome drinks were served upon arrival, we were accompanied by a staff to our room. Daily room service, free breakfast, easy to get around the island anytime as there are motorbikes ready everytime. We stayed at the deluxe room; everything was nice and pleasant except the shower. The water coming from the shower & faucet was is salty and a bit smelly.. but tolerable. Decent food at the restaurants, the staffs are very very nice.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Thresher Cove HOSTEL - If you're looking for a hotel / resort - THIS IS NOT ONE.
We stayed for 3 nights (booked for 4, but left 1 night early) in May 2016. We'd come for a relaxing few nights but were surprised when we found that the resort periodically (read: more often than not) has electricity outages with no back up generator to combat this. This left us trying to sleep in the heat with no fan or aircon to cool our room down. After a day of diving, we also found that the water in the shower had stopped working!
On our penultimate day, the hotel had run out of bottled water. All the little shops we came across had water, so this told us that the hotel was lacking organisation.
On our final day, and after 3 days of little to no sleep because of the power shortages, the general manager (i know this because he introduced himself several times to whoever he was on the phone to) decided to take a phone call outside our room at 7am, which lasted about 20 minutes. He'd obviously decided to be courteous enough to give us our very own alarm clock!! Considering he was the man in charge of running the hotel, I was surprised at the inconsiderate nature of his behaviour.
Depending on what you're looking for, the resort may be to your liking. But if your looking for comfort, ease and to stay at a place which 'just works', i would suggest thinking again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Beautiful resort not so great service - The resort and rooms were really nice except the showers were salt water (very salty when they said it was brackish water that was midly salty) which was very bad for my boyfriends sensitive skin. The bathroom always smelled like sewer from the drain in the shower. The food in the restaurant was really good but they messed up our breakfast order everyday. The beach and grounds were very beautiful but beware if you have mobility issues since you have to climb many stairs and there was no other route other then by boat.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Peaceful place - Relaxing.
