Guest Reviews
- Camille (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay at NOTL - We loved the location of the B&B. It was very convinient for restaurants and to visit wineries. The host was very welcoming and helpfull. Nothing
- Donna (8/5): -
- Kenichi (10/5): -
- Cheryl (10/5): - Everything was great. Yvonne was lovely and provided some suggestions for lunches/dinners in town. Breakfast was delicious.
- Edna (10/5): - Great location and service.
- Brian (10/5): - Yvonne was a great host. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable.
- Alan (10/5): - Excellent place to stay … great food and location … hostess Yvonne was great as well
- Abigail (10/5): - We were so happy with our stay here! I wish we were able to stay longer. We will definitely stay here next time we visit
- Daran (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay at the Finlay House B&B! The location couldn’t be better—just a short walk to the historic and beautiful downtown area. Our room was comfortable and inviting, but what truly made our visit unforgettable was our host, Yvonne. She was beyond welcoming, attentive to every detail, and went out of her way to make us feel at home. Her warmth and hospitality made this a truly unforgettable stay. Highly recommend!
- Thomas (10/5): - Incredible host. Wonderful location. Great breakfasts. Thanks!!!
- Evan (10/5): - This was our second stay in the Oscar Wilde Room at the Finlay House and we would stay here again. The room is a good size with a small sitting area and large private bathroom. The room is clean, and with only one other room on the floor, very quiet. (Although, the portable air conditioner needed in the summer is noisy - but necessary.) It is walking distance to all of the main shopping and dining options in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The breakfast made fresh by our host was delicious and the price for our stay at the Finlay House very reasonable.
- Dieter (10/5): - Amazing host excellent breakfast
We loved it
- Heather (10/5): - Really enjoyed my stay at Finlay House. In a great location. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was delicious.
- Naomi (10/5): - It was so welcoming and breakfast was fantastic! It is close to the old historical street.
- Mary (10/5): - This was our first time at the Finlay House but it definitely won't be our last. The hospitality is wonderful. The accommodations and excellent breakfasts prepared by Yvonne are both excellent. You can't beat the location. We parked there and took the brief walk to the theaters and downtown for dining and shopping.
- Robert (10/5): - Great location and attractive comfortable room!
- Katherine (10/5): - We had a truly wonderful stay at Finlay House Bed and Breakfast in Niagara-on-the-Lake. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality from Yvonne the house manager was exceptional — warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. She went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and well taken care of throughout our stay.
Our room was spotless, cozy, and full of charm, making it the perfect retreat after a day of exploring. Every morning we looked forward to the absolutely delicious breakfasts she prepared — not only beautifully presented but made with care and attention to detail.
She also gave us fantastic suggestions for things to do and places to eat in the area, including Aura On The Lake, which ended up being one of our favourite dining experiences.
Finlay House itself is adorable, full of character, and incredibly cozy. One of the highlights was the large wrap-around balcony, which we thoroughly enjoyed during the quiet mornings and relaxing evenings. The location is perfect — just a short 5-minute walk to the main area, yet far enough to enjoy some peace and tranquility away from the bustle.
Overall, it was a truly enjoyable experience, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a charming and restful getaway in Niagara-on-the-Lake!
- Shawn (10/5): - Yvonne was great to talk to and very personable. The breakfast was good, and it was a nice, short walk to the main street.
- Susannah (6/5): Our stay was just ok. I wouldn’t book here again. - Breakfast and location were good. Room and B & B generally lacking in charm. Large noisy portable AC two feet from bed in our room. Rug in bedroom and hall didn’t seem particularly clean. A lot of money for a mediocre room.
- Bruce (10/5): - Very interesting and homey breakfast
- Ronald (10/5): - Yvonne was an exceptional hostess. She not only provided a wonderful breakfast, she took her time to give us detailed information on local shopping and dining. I would recommend this B&B to anyone looking to have a great experience in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
- Mary (10/5): - A beautiful place. Great location…you are close to restaurants and shopping ( walking distance!). And the breakfast! Yvonne, the hostess was awesome and a great cook! Well worth every penny!!
- Audie (10/5): A Lovely B&B - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Finlay House. The hostess, Yvonne, was super friendly and helpful. Her breakfasts were delicious and presented beautifully. Our room was very spacious, well-appointed and clean. The bathroom was large with much storage space. Finlay House has a great location within walking distance to most attractions. We would definitely stay here again!
Thank you, Yvonne!
- Cami (10/5): Great trip - It was our managers third day but it seems like a great fit for her! Very good food, personable morning chats. Location was excellent - could easily walk to town and felt safe and easy. I was worried about the Shakespeare room because the bathroom is down the hall but since it was a first floor suite, and they had a curtain dividing the dining area, it actually felt fairly enclosed.
- MARY ANNE (10/5): Excellent stay, would highly recommend to others. - Breakfast was excellent. Food was presented in a very timely manner, was right temperature, beautifully presented. Just the right amount of food and was all delicious. Yvonne did a wonderful job of making sure we had everything we needed. Her baking skills are excellent as well.
Yvonne made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived and was very attentive to anything we needed. Also provided us with lots of information on the town and ways in which we could make our visit more enjoyable.
Also met with the owner during breakfast who was very welcoming and engaging with the guests.
Our room was lovely and clean. Shower was very good. The room was comfortable and cool in spite of humid, hot weather outside. Also very quiet location. Everything was very good, no complaints.
- stan (10/5): - Look no further, Comfortable with friendly hosts and a wonderful imaginative breakfast.
- Steve (8/5): - We loved staying at Finlay BnB, Anne was wonderful to chat with, breakfasts were delicious and left us full.
We loved how close it was to the main strip on NOTL and how we didn't have to worry about parking. Would definitely come back again
- Bradley (9/5): A wonderful place for our mother-daughter trip. Would stay again! - Cute house with quiet private rooms. An easy walk to the main strip, the theaters, and the lake! Free parking was so nice too.
- Frances (6/5): - Excellent location to the theaters and shopping. Window A/C unit very loud. Mattress way too soft and sheets were synthetic.
- John (10/5): - Walking distance to historic Niagra on the Lake. Property owners great!
- Julie (9/5): Superb -
- John (10/5): - We booked the room for our granddaughter and her friend, in honour of our granddaughter's birthday. They had a wonderful stay. Thank you.
- Emily (10/5): - Great
- Leesa (10/5): Exceptional - Location was perfect. Close walk to the Old Town. The room was very clean and cosy. Exactly how I expected it. Such a lovely stay and hosts were very accommodating. A+
- Collette (4/5): Disappointing - Breakfast was inferior.
Overcooked bacon.
Soggy cold French toast.
Small amount of fruit.
Yogurt Uncomfortable bed.
No bathroom ensuite.
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (7/5): Overall it was just okay. - The heat was unbearable. Bugs in the bathroom. We had set up as twin beds but it was set up as a king sized bed. The bugs in the bathroom and some dead in the bedroom.
- Theresa (10/5): - My mother & I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location is excellent and walkable to everything we wanted in town. Breakfasts were great. Our room was very comfortable and homey.
- Lais (8/5): Great comfortable stay - Amazing location, easy check-in, great quality of bed linen and towels. Breakfast was good, but don't expect huge variety. Manager is very friendly and welcoming. Very clean linnen and bathroom. The "king bed" was two twins put together and, differently from other accommodations where I have stayed with this format, there was a huge gap between the mattresses which wasn't comfortable and it made it feel more like a twin bed than a king. It was hard to bedshare with our toddler as well.
Bed headboard was just sitting between the wall and the bed, not attached to anything, so everytime we would lean on it, it would make a loud bang on the wall.
Communication of the host with the manager wasn't the best, as they weren't expecting our daughter, there wasn't a towel for her for example (we didn't need it, but just be aware that you might need to request).
Nothing major, but it did bother me a bit due to the price of the stay.
- Monika (10/5): - Very nice comfortable room. Close to the main strip of NOTL. I wanted to fit the bed in my car because it was so comfortable. Great wifi. Better than most hotels and we have stayed in them in many countries.
- Katherine (8/5): - Cute enough, soap in bathroom wasn't functional, would have been nice to have fresh coffee in the morning as opposed to Keurig pods.
- Sandra (10/5): - We had a great stay right in the heart of NOTL at the Finley House. My daughter and I loved our stay in the Bernard Shaw room with a private bathroom. The room was spotless and well appointed. Instructions on arrival were easy to follow. Breakfast in the morning was a real treat, homemade French toast, real Canadian maple syrup, bacon, orange juice, coffee and bananas. What a great way to end our stay. If you’re looking for a place to stay in NOTL I would highly recommended Finley House. I’d stay again.
- Wally (8/5): Very good - Food was delicious
- Nancy (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was great. Staff was nice. Room was beautiful. Locking the building and the room was a bit tricky. Would have preferred an ensuite bathroom.
- Trevor (7/5): Good -
- Henkin (6/5): the room was adequate but for the price it fell very short of expectations. - The hosts were friendly and helpful. The location was good. Breakfast was good. The room was very small and the mattress squeaked and sank in the middle. The bathroom was not attached.
- Dan (9/5): Good breakfast from a great location in a lovely quaint town - The breakfast was good, and the people were accommodating: they let us keep our bags on site to accommodate our use of the shuttle bus. Niagara-on-the-Lake is is lovely town. The house was a short, pleasant walk to the Peller Estates Winery where we had a fabulous lunch. The keypunch lock system was fine — if you knew how to use it and re-lock it once you had used it. The bathroom was a little worn down and the placement of the bath towels near the front door of our suite seemed odd.
- Lindsay (7/5): Good -
- Benjamin (7/5): Good value option for a short stay in NOTL - Walkable to old town NOTL dining and entertainment district. Ample on-site parking in a town where that commodity is limited. Spacious guest room and bath (Oscar Wilde suite). Located in a quiet part of town. Hosts are personable. Breakfast serving time is confined to 9 am for all guests. Sound travels easily between suites and limits privacy.
- Silver (5/5): Passable -
- Diane (10/5): Fabulous. - Anne was a wonderful host. She gave us a fabulous breakfast. The accommodation is in the perfect location for a lovely walk into the town center.
- Charles (10/5): - The hosts were friendly and helpful with a warm smile and a genuine heart. The breakfasts were delicious. For an establishment that is not specifically handicapped accessible, it was more accessible than many places I’ve been. That being said if you need accessible accommodations this is not the place to stay.
- Pam (8/5): Very good -
- Lolly B (6/5): - Convenient last minute choice but tired property not managed by owners. Shakespeare Room, bath is private but not connected to the room.
Poor guest communication. Too many contact points who did not share. Did not pass on request for GF breakfast. Told to book direct not through Expedia.
(And yes it smells of weed, a lot)
- Ronald (8/5): Very good -
- Alan (8/5): - all good
- Kathie (7/5): Good - Perfect location. Lovely porch and breakfast was good. Room was small and dark. Halls had a musty smell.
Price does not match accommodation.
- Mark (8/5): Wonderful trip- wish it was longer! - Breakfast was great and Anne was very nice.
- Saralee (8/5): Very good -
- Stephen (5/5): Location - good. Hosts were great. Booking.com misinformed us! - The breakfast was a little disappointing - seemed like a bit of a fry up - not a full breakfast, not a “European breakfast” The main problem we had was that booking.com told us that our room would have an en-suite bathroom, it didn’t! Apart from the breakfast, the owners did a reasonable job. It was the misinformation from Booking.com had us disappointed as soon as we arrived.
- Susan (9/5): Looking forward to a return visit. - Location, ambiance, cleanliness, breakfasts, bed & pillows very comfortable, Just wish we had a king size bed
& would have like muffins included in the breakfast, especially when French toast was served as there were no other options.
- Sonja (7/5): Good -
- Sean (8/5): Very good -
- Ilana (6/5): Comfortable and convenient. - Location was very convenient. The room was reasonably comfortable, though the portable air conditioner sounded like a jet engine. The bed was very comfortable and I was pleased with the lighting in the bathroom. The only other bad thing was that there was an octagonal window without a shade, so the light came in very early. When I booked, I got the impression that the owners of the b&b ran the place. That turned out to be untrue. The owners have several properties and hire people to work there. They did a fine job, but we generally prefer dealing with the former. We were not greeted by anyone when we arrived, and that's probably why.
- Waldo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joar (7/5): Good - Breakfast OK
Location good In room air conditioner far too noisy for sleep
- Fern (9/5): Superb -
- Marilyn (3/5): Would not return- location good - Only a bath towel should have had a hand towel in the bathroom to dry your hands off after washing them
Breakfast was subpar for a B&B- buffet style which was odd in and of itself- fruit was over ripe- the grapes were fine but bananas ad peaches inedible- muffins the size of my thumb - usually French toast in a B&B is not made with sandwich bread.
Coffee - Keurig-from Costco, only one coffee cup in the bedroom See above - also the gentleman who ran the property has significant lung disease- I’m sorry for him but it was most unpleasant hearing him spitting
I thought he had come in from a run but it was his normal respirations
- Colleen (10/5): highly recommend. - great access and breakfast was a curated experience. air conditioner was loud - but this is a forst world problem - i mean gosh they had a/c so that was wonderful.
- Julie (9/5): Superb -
- Randi (10/5): - Lovely home. Great breakfast! Pleasant hosts.
- Yolanda (10/5): Wonderful hosts, Anne and Steve. Beautiful home with a gorgeous front porch. Quiet and comfortable accommodations. Bre - Clean, excellent location, comfortable
- John (10/5): - Thank you
- Louise (8/5): - Anne and Steve were great hosts. Location was convenient. We enjoyed the tour Steve took us on all around Niagara on the Lake. Saw some beautiful homes and learned about some of the future plans for the village.
- Ashley (6/5): Pleasant -
- Robert (3/5): Great location. Extremely dissatisfied overall. - Worst breakfast we have had at a B and B at NOTL Room size and lack of privacy
- Freek (8/5): Lovely B&B in a evenly lovely town but the decorative rug on the bed most likely contained bugs. - Lovely B&B in a even lovely town but the decorative rug on the bed most likely contained bugs. My lower legs were bitten countless times. No other explanation likely. I informed the lady of the house.
- Judith (10/5): - Wonderful!
- Timothy (8/5): Very nice. Clean, comfortable, intimate, perfect location. Very good value! -
- Gina (9/5): Superb - Clean, great location, wonderful veranda
- Pam (8/5): Very good -
- Jean (8/5): Great location and comfortable room. - The first breakfast was okay, but nothing special, like being home. But the 2nd one had ripe fruits, egg and sausage ' muffins', hot croissants, juice, coffee, granola...
We had stayed here before, the present owner we never saw...we missed her conversations and presence. No guide/instructions for the TV in our room.
- Howard (9/5): Superb -
- william (6/5): - Our one night stay was ok,clean. It was adequate nothing special For what we paid it should have offered much more. no I would not go there again.
- Ryan (8/5): - Clean and nice breakfast. No cable however. On site managers friendly but around toomych nice people and seem to care about the oroperty.
- Baifeng (9/5): A relaxed and comfortable accommodation experience - Room service is very warm
- Terry (10/5): - Great hosts. Great food. Great stay. Within walking distance to Old Town NOTL. Easy to get to wineries/chocolate factory/Shaw/Lake Ontario.
- Ej (4/5): Not a B&B experience rather an airbnb with no personal touch or warmth - the house itself and the location is great. we always choose to stay at B&B for the personal touch, the people we meet and the uniqueness of the experience. Unfortunately, we were never met by any owner/staff except for the lady who brought some new croissants. There was no personal touch whatsoever. The bathroom needs some updating. All in all we would have in this case definitely be better of to stay at a hotel and have gotten a more personal experience than staying at this B&B. Value for money is definitely an issue here at 320 Canadian dollars but fair to mention we staying on july 4th where probably demand was high due to the public holiday across the border.
- Jack (9/5): Superb -
- Woltz (7/5): Good -
- Wendy (8/5): Very good -
- Teresa (10/5): - Loved staying here! Easily walkable to town and great breakfast!
- Joseph (10/5): great visit to niagara-on-the-lake! - our hosts were fantastic- showed us to our room (we were I hour early) and later took us on a mini-tour to show us where the theater we would be attending was, and also pointed out a number of fine restaurants to choose from.
room was clean and comfortable, we would definitely stay there again!
- Frank (10/5): - First time staying at a B&B and we will definitely do it again.
- Beau (6/5): - Upon entering, the house reeked of weed. Being allergic, I couldn't stop sneezing and blowing my nose! The room was nice, and the hosts were friendly. The "continental breakfast" was shameful though. For the amount that this place charges, maybe offer a plate of bacon and eggs? 3-day old croissants wrapped in plastic wrap, and make-it-yourself oatmeal is not what I consider a "continental breakfast".
- Li (10/5): Perfect! Wonderful! - Perfect breakfast and exceeded my expectations!! I also get a ride around, with zoom bike sharing app. No.
- Maria (9/5): Superb - Location and breakfast Everything was perfect
- Connie (10/5): - Well maintained property, friendly hosts. Next time we're in Niagara on the Lake, will definitely book here.
- Stephen (10/5): In try own for the 2024 eclipse - I was staying in Niagara-on-the-Lake for the total eclipse but also to see “Witness for the Prosecution” at the Shaw Festival and to take a “Ghost Tour” of Fort George. The Finlay House is very conveniently located within walking distance of Lake Ontario and downtown Niagara-on the-Lake. That make my stay in town very enjoyable.
