Guest Reviews
- Emma (6/5): - There is no staff you get a text message.
- Justin (10/5): - Close to everything and very spacious.
- Glen (8/5): - Good size rooms, well located for attending conference at the town hall. Only problem was only one key provided and intercom doesn’t work.
- Jessica (4/5): Not Recommended - I recently stayed at Nautilos Apartments and was quite disappointed with several aspects of my experience.
Firstly, the parking situation was very frustrating. The website clearly stated that parking would be $15 per night, and the information provided in the apartment mentioned that parking was included. Despite this, I was charged $25 per night. This inconsistency and overcharging left a very bad impression and made me feel misled.
Additionally, while the apartment itself was decent, the furnishings and mattress were old and in desperate need of replacement. The worn-out furniture and uncomfortable bed detracted from what could have been a comfortable stay.
On a positive note, the location was good, which made it easy to explore the area. However, the issues with the parking fees and outdated furnishings overshadowed the convenience of the location.
Transparency and honesty about charges, as well as attention to the condition of the apartment, are crucial. I hope the management addresses these problems promptly.
- Hanan (8/5): - Every thing is good nice facility
- Anne (2/5): - The property did not have a reception desk, all contact was made through separate phone calls to get check in codes. Codes were provided late, after check in, and should have been provided prior to check in. Property summary on the fridge said parking was free, but they told us we had to pay for parking. Swimming pool closed at 8pm which was very early. We only stayed 1 night but wasted a lot of time chasing codes.
- Nea-ann (6/5): - Dated decor
Rug dirty
- Daniel (8/5): - Distance to amenities and restaurants
- Lauren (4/5): Would not recommend - Very disappointing stay. Accommodation itself was fine, we had a three bedroom apartment plus a rollaway and everything was adequate. But the cleanliness was absolutely lacking. I moved the bed over to fit in the rollaway and found a baggy of what looked like illicit drugs. The kids found a pair of worn underpants in a drawer in their bedroom. My daughter dropped an earring under the bed and when we looked for it we found filth all over the floor (food wrappers, dirt, melted lollies). We felt disgusted and wanted to leave as soon as we were able this morning because it felt so dingy and uncomfortable being there.
- Adam (2/5): - No reception and had to call a number to get directions on how to get in. Luckily one of the residents arrived and showed me the ropes including how to get the key and car park etc.
Wasn’t a harbour view as shown in advertisement.
The main bed mattress was sunken and uncomfortable, near impossible to sleep in it so I went and jumped on the lounge.
Water leaking from air con onto floor.
The apartment smelt like garlic.
No value for your dollar at all.
- Emrys (2/5): - I did not even get to check into this property!
- jackie (2/5): - It was dirty and not what I expected
- Faisal (6/5): - Location and spacious but thats about it.
So many things wrong
- no light working in second bedroom
- second bedroom lamp has no shade nor a socket to plug into
- main bedroom 1 table lamp doesnt work
- both bathroom door locks broken
- quite a few spiders and webs around the ceiling
- all dining chairs about to break apart
- toaster had grease inside it
- toilet roll holder broken and roll keeps falling off
- shower soap holder broken
- showerhead too low (neck level even for someone not so tall)
- living room lights flicker if u turn it dim
- aircon barely cools (filter completely clogged and not cleaned)
- spa broken and couldn’t be used
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We were meant to stay at Nautilus but were transferred to Star apartments. We had selected the Nautilus due to positive family friendly reviews, travelling with a 4 yr old and myself working Friday and Saturday.
Friday night saw a party in the building across from us until 5.30am, not much rest.
Saturday and Sunday were ok. Smokers on our floor were not ideal with a strong herby ‘cigarette’ smoke smell in the hallways.
No balcony is an issue for us and we should have confirmed that prior. We did get a 2nd parking, which was really great but the codes we were initially sent to open the apartment were incorrect and it was a delay in getting into the property, after driving over 5 hours with a small child, not ideal.
I get it was an extenuating circumstance for the agents but at the end of the day, not a wonderful experience and we paid top dollar at nearly $300 a night.
- Kerrie (8/5): Central location, great facilities & size - The actual apartment was terrific, well laid out and plenty of room. Although we didn't cook, the kitchen was a good size and offered full facilities. A large balcony was excellent. The only issue we had was checking in. Unfortunately, there is no reception on site and although check-in was 2pm, we were unable to get into the apartment until 3:15pm. Details of pin # to unlock the door were also not received until 3:30pm. We were over 1hr late to meet up with friends for a surprise function. If you were attending a wedding or similar this would be a complete nightmare. Not sure if this happens regularly or we were just unlucky.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Location was great for us, central and walking distance to foreshore.
We had 4 guests stay but only provided with one entry fob which made it very difficult to coordinate as we were not always all together.
Wanted to open sliding doors but mosquitoes were so bad we had to sleep with doors closed.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The cleanliness left a lot to be desired - very worn sheets, no mattress protector on the beds, cigarette butts in the pot plant outside on the balcony, dishes left in the dishwasher and glass on the lounge floor (a few small shards). Apartment was great but cleanliness was very poor.
- Michael S (10/5): - Great size modern apartment. Excellent location.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We arrived to find no key fob in the letter box as per our arrangements. After being made to wait in our hot car on the street with three kids for over an hour we were finally told that the cleaner had not turned up for work and the apartment was therefore not available. We were offered an alternative apartment in Hamilton, which was nowhere near the precinct we needed and wanted to stay in and to date we have not been offered compensation for the difference in price between the two units or the inconvenience and anguish caused. To date, there has been no apology or contact (while making arrangements for an alternative a staff member blamed the cleaners but never once apologised). I cannot recommend this host or accomodation.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The room wasn’t ready at 2pm. We did not get access until 4pm. Waited two hours in the freezing cold outside with 3 small children. When we finally got access, only one fork, not enough bowls, cups glasses. No dishwashing liquid. Small cockroaches in living area. Communication was dreadful prior to gaining access to the property, with me ringing multiple times talking to many different people trying to get an update. At one point offering to move us to another apartment which was absolutely not acceptable. To add further insult after paying for a late check out, a cleaner knocks and enters the room at 10am the next day asking why we haven’t left. Very disappointing stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - everything was great awesome location and underground carpark
- Jenna (8/5): - Well located property, with easy access and departure.
Parking height was an issue and floor in apartment not clean.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great apartment, big rooms, perfect location. No problems.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Was promised Two King beds, only got a king and two singles. Location was perfect, only meters from the wharf. Pool was spectacular, however we were constantly abused by other tenants for making a noice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - great location, close to the water and to the shops
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The check in was disappointing having to pay extra $20 for parking, the confusion with door pins etc was also a pain, the room was disappointing unclean, smelt like a pub and doors wouldn’t close their furniture was old and run down, definitely overpriced for that poor of conditions
- Verified traveler (6/5): - We got there at check in time of 2pm but it took at least 40 minutes to wait for the key after calling the service area. The rooms are pretty clean and comfortable. The pool and spa are clean but the residents are very protective of it with one saying we are not allowed to play ball in the pool despite us having no intention of doing so. Another resident came out later on asking if we have towels despite our towels hanging in full view. We are of asian descent from sydney so others might have a different experience...
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Over priced. Location was great near the water, but with no actual view of the water, and additional car park cost, it was overpriced.
Unfortunately, I would pay that again for 1 person traveling for work.
Lovely unit though.
- Kristie (8/5): - Great location close to all the main spots water right across the road tops
- Steve (8/5): - Very good stay, everything we needed. Close to venue we attended. Unit clean bedding comfortable. Only downside was paying for parking in Newcastle generally. Parking spot should be included in unit price. $20 per day over the top
- Craig (2/5): - On arrival we found the floor dirty, a large carpet had not been cleaned in a LONG time, dirty under tables and chairs and in the entrance to a bedroom. A large clump of hair on the floor of the bathroom.
Dirty and wet dishes and glasses in the cupboard - all had to be re-cleaned to use.
Took the reception/call centre 2 hours to get the WiFi working.
Won't be using this place again.
- Gary (8/5): - Clean and modern spacious apartment. Enjoyed our stay.
- Kevin (10/5): Great stay - We stayed in a two bedroom apartment. It had everything we needed. It was well stocked with everything we would need eg dishwashing powder, soap powder even biscuits. Very central. Close to beach and across from the harbour
- TIM (4/5): Average at best
- unit was nice, practical & close for everything we were after. However the unit had a persons sunglasses left there an empty box of fake nails on the floor in one of the bedrooms& also a some used tape of some sort on the floor. The unit hadn't been cleaned very well. Some of the fixtures in the bathroom were loose and need fixing. The service provided by Newcastle executive apartments when booking in & leaving the property was very amateur. When arriving we requested an early check in before 2.00 pm as we had a function to get to by 2.30 pm & were told when a text came through to my mobile the unit would be ready. 15 Minutes after we received the text & the keys where still not available. On leaving the car park doors would not open & received no Help from Newcastle executive apartments in trying to leave the premises. Lucky someone came along to enter the car park about 15 minutes later.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Can do better elsewhere, avoid at all costs! - Arrived late on a Friday afternoon to a unit that looked like the cleaners had not been in. There was still cutlery in dishwasher from previous people staying there, a mug in cupboard that was coffee stained and with lipstick marks on it, splatters on fridge that should have been wiped over and crumbs and stains on the leather lounge. We had requested 4 x single beds and arrived to 2 x single beds, 1 x king bed and 1 x folding bed (broken slats) in the lounge room. The oven/stove did not work, called NEA to be told they would email the instruction manual (which we never received). The handtowel in bathroom was bleach stained and tattered and looked like it belonged in the cleaners cart (if there was one). Was told to email our grievances to NEA which we did however 2 weeks later still have not received a reply or acknowledgement. Reading other reviews since, lots of people have mentioned cleanliness of property is lacking however obviously still nothing has been done about it...waste of time!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Fabulous sized apartment but lacked cleanliness - The apartment (208) was spacious but as soon as we opened the door the faults were found. The case had obviously been broken and was slackly mended. The walls needed touch up paint. The toilet in the ensuite lid has broken and not fixed. The sliding door was cracked in the lounge room up the top which is really dangerous.
The worst part was if you had allergies or asthma you couldn’t stay here. The light fittings were full of dust in the bedrooms which was disgusting! I actually had to wipe some away as I couldn’t bear to look at it anymore. The wine rack was full of dust above the fridge.
The apartment had so much potential and it’s a shame the owners don’t take pride in it, it’s reallu upsetting. The apartment could be amazing if these issues were looked at and fixed.
It’s a shame as the location is great, right near good night life, places to eat & great beaches.
- MissB (8/5): - Very accomodating for my girlfriends & i, close to amenities.
Shame you only get 1 parking spot at the apartment, there is paid parking next door but only a 5min walk up the road you can park for free.
We'll be back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely, spacious apartment in s great location. - Easy access to car parking and apartment. Lovely self contained apartment that allow for family meals and relaxing. The spa was lovely. Unfortunately the pool heater wasn't working so was a bit cool.
- Denis (6/5): - Ideally located close to the water with great views from just outside the front door. Walking distance to a great choice of restaurants and activities.
The complex itself is actually quite good, however the three bedroom apartment we were allocated resembled more of a hospital than an apartment. Gray floor tiles and darker wall tiles half way up the wall throughout the apartment was depressing and tasteless. Thankfully we were just passing through for a night and not staying longer, otherwise I would have looked to book elsewhere.
- Verified traveler (8/5): nice hotel close to beach, no reception - no reception, was confusing and took half hour to get in as the cleaner did not leave key in the right area. bed not comfy. good location though.
- Jeff (10/5): Large family friendly appartment - Great appartment large & lots of space. Light rail consruction behind block did not create too much noise in the morning. Great location easy walking to restaurants, bars & local attractions. Internet connection was difficult and kept cutting out.
- Tezza (8/5): Great location - Apartment not ready on arrival.
Could do with a Good clean!
And update of comfortable beds and seats!
No reception desk!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good location opp Crown Plaza - Unmanned hotel so bit of effort to get into , in pretty good spot opp the harbour and short walk to restaurant etc . Room needed an update pretty dated decor and cleaner needed to be more through , two dirty socks a sneaker and cleaning rags left in the room .
- Jo (8/5): Two bedroom unit - Good location close to harbour for fireworks. Bookings and enquiries are operated from a single call centre that manages many hotels. There was confusion about the booking and the text message instructions to us.
- keith (10/5): Great place to stay - The first thing you notice is the size of this room. It was the size of an average house. Everything on hand with a monster kitchen. TV's in every room. Right on the foreshore and within easy walking distance to all the restaurants and cafes. Great place to stay.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Overnight Stay - I don't often leave reviews but I am doing this as a community service! This apartment is incredibly bad! The building is well located, the apartment however gets virtually no daylight, across from a noisy pub and road. It is wall to wall dark grey slate, chrome trim and black pleather. The cold dark surfaces are noisy and on arrival the air conditioning was set to 16 to complete the morgue like affect. All the beds are on wheels so roll around a lot, the third bedroom is an internal room. I can't imagine the decor be appealing to anyone. Seriously avoid this apartment, it is very misrepresented as are the amenities like the pool.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very basic.
Has so much potential. Good location
For a place where they expect you to leave it clean it wasnt very clean to start with. A fan stuck on. A kettle that was so dirty we couldnt use.
Towels were old and tatty. Sheets looked like they were from the 70s.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Our apartment was absolutely 100% freezing cold. Mid July so Newcastle is very cold at that time of year Mid Winter. There was no heater & air condition was also freezing & unable to be reset to warm the place up. We had two absolutely miserable freezing cold days & nights & this was suuuuuch a disappointment for the price we paid for the two nights.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Nice apartment but needs maintenance - The bathroom needs maintenance as the floor sinks are clogged up and completely flooded as a result - my family could not shower!?
- Danielle (4/5): A place to sleep. - Very basic accommodation. Tiles through including up the walls! Not a rug in sight. Broken shower, toilet seat, bin. One rusty bar stool at the breakfast bar. Nothing cosy at all about the property.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Place in a Great Area - We really enjoyed our stay. Nice and modern, had everything we needed to make our holiday smooth. We're no butter knives and the glass table had cracks which my kids ran there hands over. Once we moved the table out of the way and got some knives we were set!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Large family apartment - My family was wowed by the size of the apartment and the fact there was a tv in every bedroom. Walking distance to the Newcastle civic theatre which was the main reason why I chose the accomodation. Unfortunately there was no view of the water. No staff at the apartmemts but clear directions were given on how to access the accomodation and car park.
