- Barry (4/5): Functionally it has everything but aesthetically not good, service needs improving - Functionally this hotel has all the right things, bar, dining room, gym, swimming pool etc. Similarly with the room I had, it had a comfortable bed, smart tv, tea/coffee, desk and chair, hanging space etc. The dormer velux window was opaque with condensation and the curtain was challenging to open or close. The bathroom had all the bits, was clean, functioning but very dated. Aesthetically the whole place is a bit of a mixture; you wouldn’t stay here for the ‘wow’ factor. My experience with the food was mixed, the cooked breakfast served buffet style was over cooked and dried out; I had gammon one night which was way too salty, especially the chips; the second night I had chicken supreme which was very nice. It seems from a sign in reception and from the responses management have given to reviews, that the hotel has changed hands and the new people are, commendably, trying to renovate the rooms on a phased basis. In my view, if you acknowledge that some rooms are sub standard then you can’t charge top whack for them for unsuspecting guests booking online. In the bathroom of my room one could hear with absolute clarity what was happening in the bathroom of the room next door. Something to do with the acoustics of the dropped ceiling I would guess. In the reception, bar and dining room the young staff are trying hard but there is no apparent leadership nor anyone setting an example. They have not been given acceptable word patterns, ‘you alright’ is not an acceptable greeting at reception or when you go into the dining room, ‘ good afternoon, welcome to the Skipton hotel’ would be so much better; similarly for the dining room, referring to guests as ’guys’ and accepting an order with ‘no worries’ is not good. You never get a second chance to make a first impression! So you need to trim the front hedge; kill the weeds in the car park; either mend the flower boxes and plant them out nicely or take them out; try to hide the rat poison boxes; pressure wash all around the entrance; paint the handrails outside the front door; paint the sleepers with a wood preservative, etc. It wouldn’t cost a lot but would so brighten up the welcome. My room was not cleaned until after 5.00pm and it was done very superficially. Many hotels now give guests an option not to have the room cleaned each day and I would commend that to you.

Breakfast was what I expected. wifi was dreadful. The shower needced replacing; it leaked very badly. It needs a door going all the way across. I expected shampoo and conditioner and body lotion, even if it wasn't excellent quality

The hotel is a bit dated, however a programme of updates are in place which will improve the situation, albeit this will take a while as it's a large site.

We were looming forward to relaxing at the pool and jacuzzi but we had to wait for 20 minutes to get in and then had to take our belongings to the poolside as there were no locker keys left. Then we found the jacuzzi wasnt working. Our shower cubicle in our bedroom had black mold in it.

It was a standard room with a sofa and small table charged at suite prices. Due to the age of the building the floor boards were extremely noisy and neighbours can be heard just having conversations. The matress was far too soft for our liking.

Items from breakfast looked like they had been there days. Very poor selection . All in all this hotel would have been disappointing at half the money never mind £150.

- Bruce (5/5): Good value for money as a base with a slight walk/drive into Skipton. - Dinner experience was very good, with great view over the canal and good service from the staff. Hotel is undergoing refurbishment which they were very clear about - not messy or like a building site but just in a general way, there are parts which do still need updating, including the leisure/gym facilities which are attached. Although the hotel did not feel full inside, the car park was extremely full and spaces were tight.

- Philip (10/5): - The hotel and staff were lovely. We were celebrating a special birthday, and the staff went above and beyond to make the occasion special and memorable. In particular, the reception manager, Sharon, was great. She had dressed our room with birthday trimmings and went the extra mile for us!. I can strongly recommend the hotel. Bar and restaurant prices a bit dear, but that's all.

- siobhan (7/5): Easter girls trip - We liked the hotel view from our room, lovely with the canal. We liked tea and coffee facilities Spacious room Staff friendly and pleasant. Swimming pool and sauna facilities Noisy dog woke us up during night and then again at 7:30 in morning which had lack of sleep because of this. Pillows not comfy, not very soft and too flat Had to check out really early, usually check out at 11 or 12 in previous hotels. We wanted to use the pool so had to get up at 8 just so would have enough time with facilities and to also get ready. Hotel not near city centre so had to pay out a lot of money for Ubers

- Shelley (2/5): This is an old, run down hotel in need of serious updating. - The staff were hard working and lovely. The dining room and bar were nicely renovated and the view from the dining room was beautiful. It is in desperate need of updating. When you book the hotel, they show room pictures of the newly renovated guest rooms. We had a room that was clearly last renovated in the 90’s. Old, shabby furniture, carpets, lighting. The washrooms are in very sad shape. The walls are grubby and cracked. For the price we paid, this was a very disappointing facility.

- Burrage (1/5): - We have complained the hotel room was disgusting. Photos I can send on the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Horrendous experience 😪 wife slept in armchair all night. Due to disgusting bed and overall room We should not pay that amount for an horrendous stay. I will leave bad reviews and show photos until reasonable compensation is recieved. Vile hotel

- olwen15 (10/5): Fabulous couple of nights at this wonderful canal side hotel - We returned again to The Skipton Hotel , the service and food is exceptional, we chatted to Manager James at breakfast and told him the restaurant renovation looks fabulous . Jack the bar man is friendly and always has time for a little chat. This time we treated ourselves to the afternoon tea, oh my goodness it was good! We shall obviously be returning 😄

- Patsy (9/5): Perfect for a stay with the grandchildren they want to come again !! - We were there with our son and grandchildren for an appointment close by - the lovely warm no extra charge swimming pool was an absolute godsend the children spent hours in there on Friday Saturday and Sunday Breakfast was family friendly and the position on the canal was lovely The rooms were huge beds comfy and there was plenty of parking Nothing. We had a to be in the area and I was dismayed by some of the rather negative reviews I read but we did not find them to be accurate !! It is true that the hotel is undergoing refurbishment but we had a double and a family room which have not yet been refurbished but they were fine. We had a large shower tea coffee etc and rooms were cleaned and kept that way with housekeeping The reason I gave 9 not 10 is that check out is 10am a bit early 11am would have been great Reviews had reported negatively about rooms and breakfast we found the breakfast buffet to be piping hot plentiful and it was lovely to eat it overlooking the canal
- T710MManneg (2/5): Cold Breakfast. Chaos for Dinner. - We were in a party of 40+ for a bridge playing holiday. The hotel has just finished upgrading the restaurant but this did not excuse the bad experience we endured in it. Breakfast was buffet style but only lukewarm and this had been commented on in reviews from previous guests in February and also last November, so no excuse for it. The evening meal was simple and the vegetables hardly varied over the three evenings. Two of the three dessert choices each day were identical, varying only in the flavour of ice cream. And woe betide you if you didn’t like the flavour of ice cream because they wouldn’t change it. Looking at previous reviews, the hotel cannot cope with large groups in the restaurant. No record is made of which table orders which meals so the waiting staff wander between the tables with the meals trying to allocate them correctly. I ate my entire main course before my three table companions received theirs. And their scrappy fish dishes indicated they had run out of fish as the portions were ridiculously tiny. One of our group spoke to the hotel manager about the poor service. Unfortunately the manager was very unprofessional. Rather than responding sensitively to the concerns, he was very aggressive. He attempted to justify the obvious shortcomings by comments such as “that was how the restaurant had been run for fourteen years”. I can only describe the exchange between him and a few of us as a verbal brawl. I may be old fashioned about this, but I also think the Hotel Manager should look the part and his flowery shirt did not inspire respect. The final evening session of bridge was also ruined for me by the noise from St Patrick’s Day party in the adjacent ballroom which we did not appear to have been warned about.
