- John (8/5): Historical home with lots of character and charm. - Great breakfast, the hosts very accomodating and personable. Plenty of room for the pets, also more quiet location relative to Mystic area (~ 20 minutes away). Ted and Carol were very hospitable and fun to talk to at breakfast. All of the staff was very help and helpful. Cool A/C in room, and cable TV. We selected a room from the Booking.com website as it was on the first floor (for convienence of the dog) and this was not available - we were upgraded to a larger room for an additional fee (+ $18). The room charge was not locked in as we expected. Booking website states no pet fee but this is incorrect - the pet fee is $35. Pet fee is listed on B&B website, bottom of home page. Owner said this is a common problem booking rooms through this website...YMMV.

- Judith (10/5): - Everything is "unique" about Captain Grant's!...The perfect hosts Carol and Ted; the ambience; the beautiful furnishings; the cozy room with all the amenities; the absolutely fabulous breakfast w/ mimosas, pancakes with real maple syrup and blueberry topping on a exquisitely, complete totally antique, setting table arrangement; all the available extras...beer, wine, coffee. tea, brandy in the room, etc. A most wonderful experience

- Brianna (10/5): SPECTACULAR - Absolutely amazing! Ted and Carol are some of the most wonderful hosts. The building and rooms are incredible. They offer many amenities, a full fridge to use for your leftovers, a mini fridge stocked full of drinks, a game room with over 50 DVDs, pool table, board games, you name it! They offer the most delicious spread of food the next day. Coffees, teas, and an elegant sit down Victorian style breakfast. We have no complaints, and would absolutely recommend to anyone in the area looking for a beautiful getaway.

- Michael (10/5): A great find! - OUTSTANDING!!! Could not have had better weather. The hosts were incredible and went out of their way to ensure everything was working. Thew room was excellent and the bed was so comfortable. The Breakfast was fabulous and very filling. As far as I could tell everything was beyond my expectations and i highly recommend that you check this place out, minutes from both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.

- Jeremy (10/5): Cute BnB in the heart of Chill CT Country - Great cute little place tucked in between Mystic, Mohegan Sun, and Foxwoods. The hosts were great, the room was cozy, the grounds were relaxing and chill. Went with my fiance and dog ($35 dollar pet fee) and we had a blast. Ask about it being a haunted house!!! Our dog protected us! Such a relaxing time, would definitely consider rebooking.

I was a little concerned with the media hype on ghosts but we had none. I would highly recommend Captain Grant’s 1754 and truly hope to get back there again and bring my family. - Silvia (10/5): A trip to the past! - Fabulous house! I felt like I was back in time. Wonderful wood floors and authentic ceilings beams. Owners had sherry in our room and plenty of towels. Such wonderful hosts. We had a ball, we went to a nearby winery and had wine by the fireplace listening to live music and watching the sundown. I felt I was inside a painting. Everyone was wonderful after that we went to Mystic for a great dinner at Captain Daniel Parker 1800’s restaurant. When we finished 10 minutes later we were at Mohegan Sun for playing and drinks! Marvelous night and next morning even better -a breakfast with the owners. Great conversation, lovely couple. So happy to meet them!

We felt a vibe or eerie feeling as soon as we got there. We left & came back & we still felt uncomfortable about sleeping there. A feeling came over us & we decided to leave. We were disappointed about it. Your husband was nice. It had nothing to do with him. We just felt creeped.

My husband and younger son did hear footsteps going up the stair to the game room while they were playing pool, but no one was there. The employees were to kind! We didn't get to meet the owners as they were on their own vacation, but we will definitely be back so hopefully we can meet them at a future visit. We highly recommend this place!!

- Archie (6/5): - Breakfast was very good, coffe was hot and plentiful. Not enough fruit offerings. Dining table nicely decorated. Other guests were pleasant and cordial. The Margret room in the Avery House is in need of a major renovation. Ceiling plaster is falling down and full of patches, floor boards creak and squeak and in spots loose. Ceiling is too low, about 7 feet high if lucky. No closet, not enough furnishings to put clothes, as well as broken and dated, not period in nature either. Bathtoom had no door, shower head too low even if you are 5'10" tall. Mold in the grout throughout the bathroom. Sunk drips and leaks. Disgusting rug in the bathroom (needs to be thrown out). Room and bath full of cobwebs and spiders (daddy long legs). Smelled. Room door sticks, is broken and comfortable in ots ability to secure properly. Outside walkways and steps are unlevel, unsecured, uneven stone that is tough and difficult to navigate, especially if you use a cane like i do. There is a kitchen in the Avery house as well that smells like rotten meat, even after we mentioned it to the staff and they "cleaned" it, it still smelled. The doorway saddles come loose and back entrence door sticks. The main house seems to be given more attention. However, there is still too much dust, dirt and cobwebs, as well as, a musty mildewy smell. Until those things are totally fixed, repaired, overhauled and taken care of i cannot in good conscience recommend it. They capitalize on ir being haunted

Mouse in main house kitchen, entrance to other house with our room was back door to an old building and not kept up.

Scrambled eggs sausage fresh fruit silver dollar pancakes were served. Would have liked toast Jam and some fresh baked goods !

However, I felt that the proprietors were too involved in our business, why we were in town, what our plans were, etc. Also, we were not aware until we stepped on property that it was a bed and breakfast since none of the advertising stated that. The service was excellent and the room was charming. It is only a 5 minute drive from Mohegan Sun and 20 minutes from Mystic. A great place to stay when visiting Connecticut.

It would have been nice to stay in a different room the second time. The room needs some updates but overall it is a good place to stay for the location.

Loved the beams on the ceilings and the very wide floor boards along with the exquisite double stairway and wall mural leading up to the second floor. The sink and toilet/shower area were just adequate. The remainder of the room was very nice and fit in well with the age of the inn.

- Sue (8/5): - We were playing in a golf tournament at Foxwoods and only stayed one night but the room & bed was very comfortable. The only downfall was we had to be out at 7:15AM for our tournament and breakfast wasn't served until 9:00AM so we were hungry teeing off. I would definitely stay there again. The house was very interesting and true to period.
- TravelTogether (10/5): Perfect Destination for Weekend Getaway - My wife and I had tickets to see Barenaked Ladies at the Mohegan Sun on June 29th and chose to stay at Captain Grant's, a short 10 minute drive to the casino. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. From the moment you arrive at this historic B&B you can feel the charm of the place. We were welcomed warmly by the staff and and after a brief tour to make sure we knew were everything was located, shown our room. While not large, the room we had was decorated nicely to fit the period of the home and included a very comfortable four poster bed. The crystal decanter with sherry in it was a very nice touch too. After the concert we arrive back after midnight and found our way to the games room at the back of the house to play a few rounds of pool. It was a lovely way to end the night. Breakfast was waiting for us on the porch in the morning and the table setting made it extra special. Our host and hostess, owners Ted & Carol, joined our table for breakfast and they we as charming as their hotel. They delighted in telling stories about the house and were full of recommendations on what to see and do in the area. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We'll definitely be back. P&J
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a beautiful property! We were going to a concert at the Mohegan Sun. Room prices at the casino were ridiculous. The Captain Grant was close by, so we went with it. We were glad we did. The owners are friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The B&B only accommodates a limited number of guests, which made for a quiet and enjoyable experience. The next morning we had a great conversation over breakfast with some of our fellow guests. This was the highlight of the stay! Delicious breakfast and fascinating people to talk to. As for the room, it was nice, but had a bit too much furniture in it. There were also some cobwebs on the ceiling that could have used some attention. It’s an old house though. Bottom line, if you are in this part of CT, Captain Grant’s is worth the stay!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place for quiet and historic getaway! - We enjoyed a pleasant stay at Captain Grant's 1754. We booked it for a weekend trip to Foxwoods, and it was reasonably priced compared to the hotels. It's a very peaceful and beautiful location and the house has great character. There are a couple cemeteries going back to the revolutionary war within a very short walk. Carol and Ted are very nice innkeepers, and we were impressed with all the work they have done to improve and beautify this property. We had a comfortable bed and great family style breakfast, and enjoyed a few complimentary beverages. Most of the other guests were return visitors who had stayed there many times. We stayed in the Adelaide Room, apparently considered the most haunted room. Though we have no paranormal experience to report, this historic house definitely spoke to us in creaks and moans.
