Guest Reviews
- Alfonso (10/5): - Close to everything safe at night
- JOSE (10/5): Bonito y céntrico, a buen precio. - Bonito hotel, céntrico a buen precio. Enorme cama y almohadas, rico descanso.
- Juan (8/5): - Great stay!
- CARLA ALEJANDRA (10/5): - Ninguno
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place - Hotel was old hacienda. Beautiful hotel from the inside but very dirty and crowded from the outside. Many vendors and no parking available. Staff was friendly, room was big, bathroom and shower in suite was very small. Lots of noise at night due to the crowd out front of the hotel. Can be clearly heard from balcony and window.
- Oralia Gabriela (10/5): - Excellent stay, but it would ve useful if they had a coffeemaker, microwave and a small fridge.
- Lawrence J (6/5): - Location by a dirty, noisy market. Staff noisy talking during the night. Limited hot water in the shower. Comfortable bed. Room walls dark paint like a dungeon. Friendly helpful staff. Good restaurant food.
- Norma (10/5): - ESTA ES LA SEGUNDA VEZ QUE NOS QUEDAMOS EN ESTA PROPIEDAD, NOS GUSTA MUCHO PORQUE ESTA TODO CERCA, HAY MUCHAS OPCIONES PARA COMER, LO UNICO QUE TUVIMOS QUE PEDIR UN CAMBIO POR QUE EN LA HABITACION LA PRIMERA NOCHE ES DEMASIADO RUIDOSA, CUANDO NOS CAMBIARON DE HABITACION HUBO UNA GRAN DIFERENCIA MUY SILENCIO. SE AGRADECE. GRACIAS GRACIAS POR TODO
- Miguel Angel Torres (10/5): - Excelente
- Maria (10/5): - Excellent customer service!
- Mehida (10/5): - Staff is great.
- israel (10/5): - The property is just beautiful
- Hilda (6/5): - There’s many dining option walking distance from hotel. It is in a very busy area. We enjoyed our stay only disappointment were the beds, they were very uncomfortable.
- israel (10/5): - Just an awesome attention. Thank you
- ROCIO (10/5): - TODO INCREIBLE!! GRACIAS
- Diego (8/5): - .
- William (8/5): Great location - On the plaza chica. 2nd floor room, very small balcony overlooking a busy street. Some daytime noise, nights pretty quiet. Lovely colonial property. Bathroom sink in the room, shower/toilet separate. Very poor hot water pressure. Shower head clogged so poor water delivery. Excellent housekeeping. Bed, for my taste, was too hard. More than one hand towel would be appreciated. No washclothes. Slippery tile floor in unit, so be careful.
Somewhat off season, so bar (if you enjoy an evening cocktail) was basically closed.
No elevator.
- david (10/5): - Thank you
- Christine (10/5): Couples 2 might getaway - Lovely hotel, our second time staying here. Close to everything and friendly staff, will stay again. 😊
- Gustavo (10/5): - Esta muy bien y conveniente
- Israel (10/5): - Just a beautiful hotel in Patzcuaro
- NOE DE JESUS (10/5): - Excelente ubicación y muy cómodas instalaciones.
- anel (10/5): - Muy bien cuidado
- Rogelio (10/5): - Everything was good
- Coral (10/5): - Staff was very friendly. Very accessible to main locations. Rooms with a balcony can be somewhat noisy throughout the day, but at night around 10:00 p.m. the noise decreases. Walking into this building feels like you are being transported to an old hacienda.
- William (6/5): Parking nightmare - We had to drive around 2-3 times and waited for a spot to open up just to check in,
- Normand (10/5): Absolutely beautiful - This hotel is the most beautiful that I have stayed at, and I've been traveling for the past 6 years. The only negative is that the beds are a little too hard for me but a minor detail.
- Hermila (8/5): - Good place to stay. One of The plazas is just in front of you and the other is walking distance. Hotel is hacienda style, very pretty. Town people are very friendly.
- Susana (10/5): - The staff was amazing. They went way out of their way to accommodate us. We had to have breakfast when there wasn't any, so they called the lady in charge and she came and offered what she could, which wasn't bad. A really good experience in every sense.
- Chitown (6/5): - A very beautiful hotel, only it lacks a little maintenance and organization on the part of the administration
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really quiet, clean and great location, really close to the plazas and shopings
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is one of the most amazing hotels I have ever been to (and that is counting numerous hotels on three continents). You feel like you are back in time spending the night in some ancient monastery or stately mansion, but with all the modern amenities expected in a good hotel. Each room has a patron saint. So you have a San Miguel room, a San Pablo room, etc. with beautiful paintings on the walls to admire. The beds are very comfortable, no problems with hot water (like in some other Mexican hotels), clean and nice shower, well functioning TV (which is also a problem in some other Mexican hotels), very helpful and friendly staff, good restaurant with good food and good service. But again, the ambiance is amazing. In historical Patzcuaro, you can actually imagine yourself being in 16th or 17th century Mexico or Spain when you spend the night here. I was happy to see this hotel is not ashamed of the Christian heritage of Mexico and whoever designed the interior of this hotel should get an award for having an amazing talent of producing a feast for the eyes. It is a short walk away from all the must places to see in town. The best place to stay in Patzcuaro by far (and we have been in two other hotels in Patzcuaro which were highly ranked on Expedia and were pretty good, but not nearly as wonderful as Casa del Refugio).
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The location and the atmosphere were perfect, but they welcomed you like you are bothering them, services are provided but no help with luggage, no parking near by, etc.
- martinAZ (8/5): - Nice hotel in a Spanish Colonial pretty building, right in town center
- Mario (10/5): - The location is good, close to all hot spot in Patzcuaro, the street is little busy with the vendors but is part of the traditions in town
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Unique location
Great job of renovating an old building right in town core
- K (8/5): - A beautiful colonial hotel, with a very good central location and friendly staff. Rooms with a street view can be noisy during the night but inside ones are not.
- J (6/5): - Hotel location couldn't be better. Closer to everything downtown. Hotel is quite beautiful but the bathrooms could use some updating. Or room was overlooking the plaza across the street so it was a bit noisy at times. However Mexico is a very active country and the mouse comes with the territory. Restaurant on site was convenient for breakfast for us so we didn't have to get ready to go out in the am. Hotelstaff very helpful and pleasant.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good rooms pity there is no breakfast as advertised by expedia
- Joerg Heinz (6/5): Nice but not amazing - Casa del Refugio is a nice hotel, no doubt, well maintained or recently renovated. However the rooms and specificely the bathroom and shower entrance are small. Only one pillow was available upon arrival and only 2 cloth hangers provided by hotel. The location is very good, and even for the size and traffic if Patzcuaro it is accessible. Hotel and room are clean. Only restaurant at night only open until 21:00. No nightcap or snacks, had to go out again. For the price I have expected more.
- jane (8/5): Nice, old hotel - We enjoyed our stay here. The new owners are working hard to upgrade. Heating will really help, it’s pretty cold in January! Our room and furnishings was good although the shower needs to be redone. The staff was great, very helpful. The hotel is in a great situation to the Zocalo Gertrude’s Bottanegra. It can be very noisy being on a busy street but just bring your earplugs and enjoy!
- Yesi (4/5): Location great but no service or comfort - I found out they gave us a basic room when i had paid for a larger superior room. No efforts were made to remedy their error or our discomfort. This was after charging 300 pesos for the 2nd person when expedia confirmation states the base rate is for 2 guests. If you like a heater or fan or window to open in your room, no such luck. This probably explains why we were essentially the only people staying at this hotel. Not sure where the great reviews came from. There are many hotels on the same plaza so choose wisely.
- JOSE luis (10/5): A dream hotel located in a dream place - I cannot think of anything I disliked about the hotel. The hotel atmosphere was in all ways fitting with the beautiful town, and everything we came to see was at a walking distance. The TV set was small and antiquate, and the administration could not find the remote control, but coming to such a beautiful place to watch TV made no sense to me.
- Ben (8/5): A Charming Place in the Historical District - Our room was large, with a small balcony overlooking the street. It was quiet after dark. We had high ceilings, comfortable furniture and a lovely ambience. Very good value for money. The staff were pleasant but speak virtually no English. Almost all of the main sights in Patzcuaro are within comfortable walking distance. Breakfast was in the sister hotel, Casa del Refugio, a half block away, an equally charming place. Lots of restaurants and cafes nearby for dinner.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff at the hotel del Refugio was very nice, the hotel ambience was quiet. The room was clean, however most of the rooms don't have ventilation system, at night the room was very stuffy and hot.
Overall we enjoyed our stay in this hotel.
