Guest Reviews
- Liancun (2/5): - Closed
- Sumeet (6/5): - Stay was alright, but lacked basic services that most hotels offer such as towels, bed making, etc. Breakfast was included and good. Bathroom was nasty and the hotel seemed to ration out small soap bottles. Suggest just installing dispensers in the showers to avoid this hassle
- Paul (10/5): Excellent stay - Nice clean quite hotel. Checkin staff very friendly and helpful. Would diffinately reccommed and stay again.
- Jocelin Morales (10/5): - Nice hotel close to Blue Lagoon, some restaurants and supermarket nearby , but keep in mind everything closes at 8 pm. Nice breakfast too
- Jessica (8/5): Nice hotel close to blue lagoon - The hotel is simple but clean and comfortable. My only issue is it says free transfer to blue lagoon on their website, but this is not the case. We ended up spending a lot on taxis there and back as taxis are so expensive in iceland but there is no other method despite being only a 10 min drive away. Similarly it would be great if they could arrange an airport shuttle or be more knowledgeable about local transport, as again the airport is only 25 mins away but the only method was a £60 taxi.
- Nicole M (10/5): - Close and clean but very small rooms with single beds pushed together. Photos weren’t representative of our accommodations. Beautiful hotel and friendly staff Would stay here again
- Quinn (10/5): - The front end staff at this hotel were the most informative and helpful that we ran into on our entire trip! Thank you!
- Zachary (10/5): - Very nice breakfast included and friendly staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): A bit disappointing - Bit of a disappointment after so many great hotel stays in Iceland. Rooms were quite humid after using the shower (which was contained by two big plastic curtains) and we needed to keep the door open to let the room vent out. Decor was in rough shape... clearly well used. No closet. Small.
Breakfast was nice. As was the option to pack a sandwich for 500 ISK.
- Mark (10/5): Great hotel! - Recently refurnished and very comfortable hotel. Great location for the volcano and Blue Lagoon just up the road. My only improvement suggestion would be to have separate bins in the rooms for recycling e.g. paper / plastic / general rubbish. Other than that, a great place to stay :-)
- Karen (10/5): - Nice place
- Deanna (10/5): Convenient and comfortable - A great choice for our first night in Iceland. We arrived at KEF, went to the Blue Lagoon, and spent our first night here. Comfortable room, excellent and delicious restaurant across the street, and a Netto supermarket next door for stocking up on provisions for the road! This was a great start to a fantastic trip, and I am glad we didn't impose a long day of driving on ourselves to start our trip!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff are so kind and friendly. I felt at home
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel Volcano Grindavik is an excellent base for visiting the Blue Lagoon and hiking the Fagradalsfjall Volcano (yes, you can do this independently). Both are minutes away. The airport too is only 20 minutes away. The room rate includes a good breakfast. The hotel and the rooms are very clean and well maintained; the staff are very friendly and helpful; and there are good restaurants nearby. My one kvetch is that the shower is separated from the rest of the washroom only by a curtain and hence, water gets everywhere. A glass barrier/door would make a significant difference. Otherwise, the place was great. We stayed here at two different times during our trip.
- Yumi (10/5): Very nice! - Very nice and clean hotel. Rooms are small but simple and serve the purpose. Free breakfast is a plus since nothing is open around and you definitely want to get going early to venture out to see so many beautiful places around. There is a supermarket, netto, is right next and very convenient to have. Only complain is that shower was cold even turned up to hot all the way. Water pressure was low. Except for that its excellent location near to the volcano and nice place to stay.
- Robert (10/5): Awesome hotel - This place is wonderful and the staff is very friendly and helpful! The breakfast and coffee were delicious and the place is so peaceful! This is a great place to stay after a day of touring or hiking to the volcano.
- Arieh (8/5): - Great location,good breakfast,a small room,very good service.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The staff was ok. We got to hotel before check in time. My husband asked if he can have a coffee and he was told it would cost him 300 Isk. We were staying with them. 2nd day we decided to go to another part of island. I told the staff that I wasn’t sure if we were going to comeback our second night. She gave me her number. I told her if we don’t come back I will call you. We decided to comeback. Got to hotel around 12:30am. Our room was given to someone else. Needless to say I won’t be going back to this hotel.
- James (6/5): Nice, clean Grindavik Hotel - Nice, clean centrally located hotel in Grindavik. The bathroom was well organized but the bathroom fan doesn’t turn off when the light switch that controls it is turned off, but sometime later does. It also took 8 minutes for the water to get hot mid afternoon in the shower. Worked fine in the evening and next morning after coming back from volcano hikes. Receptionists was not friendly - almost distracted. I did not use the dining facilities in the limited time I had there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food in the restaurant was exceptional.
Rooms are somewhat basic but are typical for Iceland and have everything you need.
Hotel is 3 miles from volcano which is currently erupting.
We stayed here twice on our vacation at the beginning and end.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Super friendly staff. Aziz went above and beyond to accommodate us. Very friendly owners.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Helpful staff! Very informative about the volcano.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel. Great staff, he made the hotel stay very enjoyable. Good location to that part of iceland.
The town is very quiet.
- Shirley (6/5): Hotel Geo/Volcano - The hotel is now renamed The Volcano Hotel which was rather confusing.
Its a basic, decent hotel. Good access to the volcano and Blue Lagoon. Nothing to write home about but adequate for our stay. Breakfast was very basic.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It is not far from the spectacular Geldingadalir volcano and less than 30 minutes from the airport which was good for our 7.40 am flight requiring 5 am check-in because of the Covid documentation that had to be checked. When asked, a packed breakfast was put out for us (sandwich, banana, can of fizzy drink and a rock-hard peach)
Less good: There was no way of knowing that the hotel has changed its name from Geo Hotel to Volcano Hotel, so it took quite a while to find it, complicated by road closures in the vicinity; rather off-hand reception, room very basic for the 2021 price, had to ask for a kettle, no shelves or drawers, just one uncomfortable desk chair in the room, no hot water in room until housekeeping ran service taps at end of corridor to pull it through (from the geysir up the road?),
- Verified traveler (10/5): - They were amazing! Cannot recommend enough :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a family run place that has a really friendly atmosphere. Everyone was very helpful. The hotel is also well located in terms of restaurants and stores. The rooms were comfortable.
- Paul (10/5): - Excellent place to stay for visiting the volcano as very close by. New owners are very friendly, super nice and go out of their way to make sure everything is wonderful with your stay,
- Kenneth (10/5): Great place to stay - Great location, comfortable bed, spacious bathroom. perfect place to stay for Blue Lagoon and volcanoes.
- Ryan (10/5): - The staff was great, especially Calvin. It is close to the Blue Lagoon. Rooms were a little small.
- Michael (8/5): - Room was clean, but was smaller than usual, as we had trouble unpacking our suitcases, and had to move a desk chair to walk around the bed. Breakfast was good. Maybe it was our room, but the hotel felt that it was a converted institution; it reminded me of a college dorm.
- Lina (10/5): great stay - Staff were very friendly and accommodating. This is not a five star high end hotel, but they treat you like as if you’re staying at one. Very close to the Blue Lagoon. Highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again the next time I come back.
- Mary Lynne (8/5): - Short overnight stay to do the Blue Lagoon. Perfect for that.
- Graham (10/5): - Very accomodating.
- sean (10/5): Nice hotel - I have stayed twice in the past year at Geo Hotel. The staff are friendly and the room was clean an quiet. A nice breakfast in the morning too. Very close to Blue Lagoon and walking distance to grocery store and restaurants. Best value in the area!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location and clean rooms. Lovey breakfast every morning
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable to sleep in!
- AF (8/5): - Definitely consider staying at this hotel if you'll be staying overnight in Grindavik. Only a 10 minute drive away from the Blue Lagoon. Hotel is modern and clean. Rooms are comfortable size-wise but the bathroom can be a bit tight. Beds are comfortable. Hotel and surrounding area is quiet. Included breakfast buffet is excellent and filling. Staff is friendly and professional (we needed our clothes washed & and dried and they offered to do it for a nominal fee). Free parking and located in the center of Grindavik.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really good find within 25mins of the airport. The rooms we had were very quiet and comfortable. Excellent value, modern, spotlessly clean and super-friendly service. Will certainly return.
- Lisa (6/5): - The rooms are very small therefore if traveling with luggage forget about moving around the room. One liquid soap for the sink and the shower and no shampoo or conditioner, none. Very unusual to say the least. My dormitory room looked similar but must be pretty standard for the country. Nice stuff though.
- Richard (10/5): - This hotel was great. Easy check in with a very friendly host. Hotel was clean and tidy. Very close to the Blue Lagoon and the4X4 adventure Iceland (atv excursion).
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Little costly for the size of the room. Breakfast was skimpy too. First night there a group of kids decided to practice drifting in the school parking lot across from the hotel till 2am. We had to close the bathroom door secondary to the heavy wind outside that was pushing air back thru the fan, very noisy. The last morning we woke up to lots of exhaust in our room. Couldn't close the window or it would get hot in our room.
- Gilda (10/5): Cherry on top of our visit to Iceland - Relaxing stay right before our blue lagoon visit and way back home. Good clean hotel with wonderful breakfast.
- Stef (10/5): - Really nice stay and the staff was super friendly - offered free shuttle to and from the blue lagoon and was just all around a nice stay. Breakfast was good too!
- Hugh (10/5): - A good basic unpretentious hotel; good value for money. Nice breakfast included.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Wonderful hotel, easy check in and check out. Spacious rooms, warming towel rack, comfy bed and pillows. Great breakfast. Wonderful location. I would recommend, very happy with our stay!
- Irena (8/5): Good value - Great location in Grindavik, 10 mins from the Blue Lagoon, grocery store next door, and within walking distance of a few restaurants. Check in was quick. The room was small but comfortable and quiet. Overall, good value for the price. I would recommend this hotel to a friend
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good spot near the Lagoon & Airport - Geo Hotel was an ideal spot for either needing to be close to the airport or the Blue Lagoon. It's about a 40 minute drive to downtown Reykjavik and an easy in/out to sights like Pingvellir. Room was basic but clean and equipped with everything we needed, and having the coffee/biscuits available 24/7 in the lobby was great. Breakfast was also really great. Grindavík is not the best town for exploring, not a ton of restaurants and everything closes early as a heads up.
- Jean (10/5): Wick stop to visit the Blue Lagoon - Lovely staff and very friendly. We arrived late (just after our reservation to the Blue Lagoon) the staff called and was able to accommodate us with no problems at the B.L.
Lovely, clean room and plenty of breakfast offerings too.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice staff and nice breakfast. Close to airport and Blue Lagoon😊
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very clean and quiet. Perfect for going to the Blue Lagoon
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It is a nice small hotel in Grindavik near to Blue Lagoon
The staff is amazing but the facility looks like a guesthouse
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stayed for one night so I could go to the blue lagoon the next day. Had a very comfortable and cozy experience. The hotel is really clean, modern, comfortable and pleasant. Free breakfast was a nice bonus. Staff was attentive and the free shuttle to the lagoon was extremely convenient as taxis in Iceland are incredibly expensive!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Suited my needs perfectly as I finished up a5 day driving tour of S Iceland. Very close to Blue Lagoon. Easy drive to the airport and yet still fave me one more night in an Icelandic town
- MJ (10/5): - Lovely facility! Convenient to Blue Lagoon. Would return again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very neat property with great surroundings. Choice at the breakfast was rather limiyed though.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very convenient for the Blue Lagoon and the airport
- JaneD. (10/5): - Its in a fantastic location!!! Walking distance to most monuments. Tons of restaurants around open late. Staff is extremely nice and helpful.
- Mark (8/5): good place to start/end your trip - We only used this as a last night stay to closer to Keflavik, and didn't have an opportunity to check out the local environment
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was very small room. There was no air conditioning.
- LisBJ (8/5): - 29 mins to airport. Close to Blue Lagoon. Clean. Reasonable though not huge room which is tricky with luggage.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - New hotel, very clean, well appointed and kind staff!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cute and spotless. Super friendly staff and convenient shuttle to blue lagoon. Highly recommend.
- Tony (10/5): - 15 minutes from airport and car rental drop off. Clean hotel, nice beds, pleasant staff, near the Blue Lagoon, and you must try the Papa's restaurant nearby and their excellent fish & chips. Toasty rooms too, and good value. Breakfast included.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The helpfulness of the staff and the cleanliness of the facility.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We enjoyed our short stay. Edna picked us up at the Blue Lagoon and arranged for a cab to the airport for early the next morning. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The kids made hot chocolate at night and I enjoyed a glass of wine.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Special service late at night, going beyond usual process to accommodate travelers stranded at the airport. Very personal attention. Lucky to have the room. Most slept at the airport.
Only problem was poor WiFi. None in room, barely usable on property. Communication is critical in this type of situation.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel itself is great! The staff are friendly and helpful. They are happy to answer any questions about the area or about Iceland itself. The rooms are simple but in a good way. They will be cleaned every day unless otherwise directed. They also have a shuttle to the blue lagoon (which is a must see).
If you are not planning on renting a car. This is not the best part of Iceland to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Overall is ok, convenient to stay a night to Blue Lagoon or Keflavik airport .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good location, clean rooms, good buffet breakfast.
- Samantha (10/5): - Great location, wonderful
Hotel with some nice touches
- Mary (8/5): - Basic hotel close to the airport & the Blue Lagoon. Also adjacent to Grindavik’s public swimming pool & Netto supermarket.
The entire building shakes every time someone bangs a door.
Our room was on the ground floor & people walking past on the street could look straight in.
Decent enough breakfast & ok for a one night stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This hotel was easy to find and easy to get to. I enjoyed the close proximity to the Blue Lagoon and right off highway 41. Breakfast was wonderful and staff were helpful. Stayed here for one night before heading on and would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Small rooms but very nice. Staff was great! Breakfast was good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful cozy hotel in a beautiful Icelandic town.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good location for exploring the west coast and for the Blue Lagoon. The staff offer a complimentary drop off and pick up to the Blue Lagoon, which meant that we could enjoy a glass of prosecco in the water as we didn't have to drive afterwards. Tea and coffee available all the time, good continental breakfast spread. Grindavik has a number of restaurants that we ate at. We thought it was a great choice for 2 nights.
- Matthew (10/5): - Wonderful staff and great spot away from the city of Reykjavik.
- Janeen (10/5): - The location is great if you're looking for quiet and easy.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hotel was clean but minimal. Staff were not very chatty or helpful with advice.
- Bilal (8/5): - Stay was good. Grindavik is too sleepy
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was super. I felt right at home even though I was thousands of miles away.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very close to the airport and the blue lagoon, and a lot of popular tourist attractions easily accessible. Very clean and pleasant hotel.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Perfect stay near the airport! - Fantastic service, quiet stay, comfortable beds, amazing shower pressure, and a fantastic breakfast!
- Chau (8/5): Thoughts from the King and Queen - Great place and good for travelling around to other areas. Caught the Northern Lights on NYE near Grindavík as there are less light pollution.
- MEE-YOUNG S (10/5): Great location, a very clean room! - I had an amazing stay at this hotel. All appliances looked new and super clean. They offer free shuttle service to Blue Lagoon if you are not driving. It's only 10 minutes away from there. I found 3 restaurants really close by. I tried two of them and they were excellent. ATV tour is nearby too and I highly recommend it. The pool and gym is right behind the hotel. Supermarket and an ice cream store a block away. It was a really convenient location. The price includes breakfast and it's pretty good breakfast - fresh cut vegetables and fruits. A few different breads and spread, juices, cold cut meats, cheeses, etc. Coffee is available in the lobby 24 hours. People were friendly and helpful.
My only warning is that the bathroom floor could get slippery after shower. The entire bathroom is one floor. The shower area has some traction so it's okay during the shower but the rest of the floor gets slippery (no puddles or anything). I put towel on the floor behind the shower curtain and it was okay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good basic hotel with breakfast. Close to the Blue Lagoon and the airport.
- R (10/5): - The hotel was lovely, and the staff were ever lovelier
- Emily (10/5): - Hotel is really nice, VERY CLEAN, rooms are basic but have all you need in them, beds are REALLY COMFY, pillows are great too! Great location near blue lagoon and if you drive just out of Grindavík a great place to watch the northern lights we were very lucky to catch a glimpse! Quite a way from snow mobiling and Gulfoss falls BUT the roads are very easy to drive on and the views are amazing!!!! A great hotel, breakfast was good too with lots of choice and staff where always very helpful! Thanks for a great stay!!!
- Marcelena (10/5): - Our stay at the Geo hotel was excellent! Temperature of hotel and room very nice, beds and pillows super soft, cozy and comfortable. Close to airport but taxis are expensive. I booked a 2 day trip to the Blue Lagoon and the hotel offers a complementary shuttle to and from. Breakfast was good with a variety of meats, fruits and breads. There’s always tea, coffee and cookies 24 hours a day with a comfortable lounge to relax and watch tv or listen to the soft music playing in the background. Super clean hotel that smells great! Rooms small ( good size for trip ) but your out of the room almost all day so you just need a place to lay your head to rest. They offer soap for your amenities. You also have a kettle and television in your room. The front desk beautiful lady Erna that works in the morning was amazing, anything we needed she checked or called for us. When in Grindavík, visiting the Blue Lagoon or on your way out of Iceland this place is a must stay!! The Fish House was delicious and the restaurant across the street was excellent. Great Fish and chips.
- Tom (10/5): - Nice staff, very accommodating. Amazing, really. Great room with heated towel rack. Nice feature.
- Tara (8/5): - Lovely little hotel with excellent staff. The hotel is across from a supermarket and a small shopping mall.
- beth (8/5): - The property was excellent for my purpose, easy to find, clean comfortable and close to several restaurants
- Hiren (10/5): - This is a great hotel we found on orbitz as we were looking for a one night stay closer to airport. Most of the hotels in the city were pretty expensive so we decided to give Geo Hotel a try and we did not regretted our decision at all. This hotel is very close to Blue lagoon and airport so it worked out great on first night in Iceland as we could go directly to hotel after we landed in the morning, take some rest and then head out to blue lagoon in the afternoon. Also, the hotel staff was extremely helpful when we called the hotel for early checkin. We had landed in iceland early in morning and got out of the airport earlier than we expected so we called hotel to see if they can give us early checkin. The staff member looked up our reservation and called us back and assured us they will get the room ready as soon as their cleaning crew arrives and later on they actually called us back (within an hour) when the room was ready. Upon checking in they offered us breakfast as well which normally does not happen in most of the hotels in US :). Overall this was a truly professional customer service. Something we appreciated a lot since we didn't had a place to go from morning till afternoon in a new country. Hotel itself is a nice decent hotel with all the upgraded decor. They have good breakfast, tea and coffee options and some good tea/coffee/snacks the entire day.
- John (8/5): - Reasonably close to blue lagoon, but were not advised that need advance reservation unless you go at 9 PM. Hotel nice but room a bit cramped.
- Carol (10/5): - Loved the hotel! Just a little far from everything except the Blue Lagoon. Rental car was key!!
- Kelly (8/5): - Nice, clean hotel outside of Reykjavík. It’s close to the blue lagoon and the airport. Great location for visiting other tourist attractions along the south coast. The breakfast was continental but good.
- Jacqueline (10/5): - I loved this property. Very utilitarian, very clean. Very practical. Not fancy. But, has a lovely feel to it. Meshes with the Iceland experience. Breakfast was varied and good. Bathrooms excellent. Staff very friendly and warm. Great place to stay.
- CHANDRESH (10/5): - good stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Free accommodation to blue lagoon, great breakfast, clean hotel!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was basic and close to the Blue Lagoon. The rooms are facing the main road in most places and the curtains don't full cover some windows so there were street lights and other lights coming through all night long.
