Guest Reviews
- Gabriela (4/5): My stay was thankfully very quick. I would not stay here again. - The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. I liked how easy it was to check in and out of the property. I also liked the complimentary tea and the cute courtyard outside. There is no housekeeping after 3 so it gets pretty messy after that time. I decided to skip the shower when I got back for the night because it was obvious the communal shower had in no way been serviced for hours. The same dirty laundry that was there when I left in the late afternoon was there when we came back pretty later at night. There were instructions on how to keep the shower clean on the wall, but no laundry basket and not even a little disinfectant to wipe things down after each use. The hallways were also dirty at the end of the the night. I was not aware of how bad that area is with people who stay up all night hanging out on the street. It was impossible to sleep thru the night because there was people outside screaming and dragging things loudly on the pavement all day and all night.

- Moises (3/5): Overpriced hotel and wasn’t worth it - Comfortable bed Location. And was charged 50 dollars for a replacement key
- Emmanuelle (9/5): Overall, a great value and I’d happily stay again. - The shared kitchen/common area was super practical since I didn’t want to eat out, and everything was kept very clean.
The location in the Mission is vibrant, full of restaurants and cafés.
I had read mixed things online about safety, but during my stay I felt comfortable and secure, even at night.
Rooms are simple and bathrooms are shared, but well maintained. Since it 's in a vibrant neighborhood, street noise can pick up a bit at night.
- Vanessa (6/5): Decent time, but wouldn’t book again - The properties shared bathrooms were always clean and surprisingly never too busy, I was able to shower and use the restroom whenever I needed to. The rooms were small, but if you’re planning to do something most of your days it isn’t too bad. One of my friends said she liked it enough to stay again. I read about the homeless in some of the other reviews, I did not think too much of it until we arrived. If you have children I wouldn’t stay here. Walking down the street we had homeless trying to argue with us. Always veer left when coming out the front door, never right, huge difference. The rooms carpets and drapes were visably dirty, with god knows what. Our room was very warm at nigh, we’d wake up sweating in our sleep.
- Georgina (10/5): Short and confy - Customer Service, privacity and common areas PIN / PASSWORD didn't work well.

- Roberto (10/5): I love to stay at 1906 Mission - It is always nice and convenient for me to come back at 1906 Mission. Rooms and bathrooms are simple but always spotless. And the new communal areas are really nice. This time I even got upgraded to a bigger room which was really nice.
- Jake (6/5): Hostel not hotel. - This is not a hotel. It’s a long stay hostel. Can’t check your bags, no reception. Couldn’t even use their lockers to store my bags. Was ok, just be prepared that it’s not a hotel. The surrounding area is pretty scary. Always get a cab.
- Brittany (10/5): - very responsive staff, check in process was seamless considering it’s all done remotely. room smelled a bit funky and it’s right near a sketchy area with quite loud and unpredictable individuals.
- Adeline (4/5): - The room gets hot and is difficult to ventilate. The best way is to open the window and prop the door, so the breeze from the hallway passes through the window, but this takes time and is insecure when one is trying to sleep. The bed also gets hot where you sleep on it. The amount of blankets is excessive for summer.
- Damian (8/5): - Property is fine on a budget but conditions outside make it u safe to walk around
- Mélissa (10/5): - As a recurring guest at 1906 Mission, I can confidently say this place consistently exceeds expectations. Each stay feels just as welcoming and comfortable as the last.
One of the standout features is the cleanliness—especially in the shared spaces. The bathrooms and kitchen areas are always spotless and well-maintained, which makes a huge difference when you're sharing with other guests. It’s clear that the staff takes pride in keeping everything in excellent condition.
For me, staying here is more than just booking a room—it’s choosing a thoughtful, calming place to land in the city. Highly recommended. Nothing
- Briana (8/5): - Not at all the properties fault, but we had a street-facing room and the noise was from the street below was incredibly loud and made it quite hard to fall asleep. There was also a very loud squeaky bed in the room above us. We did however feel very safe and secure. The rooms and shared bathrooms are kept clean. There is a communal kitchen area with complimentary water, tea, and coffee, which was nice.
- Jose (4/5): Room 302 - Sketchy location with lots of street noise at night from people screaming below window of room 302 up until past 4am. Carpet of room 302 full of cuestionable dark stains. Pillow cases stained dirty but were replaced for clean ones.
Mattress was comfortable and rest of room adequate although power outlet above headboard didn’t work.
- Carter (2/5): - This is definitely a budget option. No reception, no elevators, no AC or bathroom/showers. It's a rough area, too.
- Regina (3/5): The unhoused ppl outside are very scary scene. - nothing nothing
- Payam (2/5): Avoid - Horrible experience overall very unprofessionally kept no Wi-Fi TV didn’t work and no electricity outlets were operational. They also did not have anybody able to come and fix the issue that same night
- Waldemar (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (2/5): - Honestly don’t know why this place has such high ratings. Mission street and the block immediately surrounding this hotel has homelessness and rampant drug use. You will see drug use, the most filthy and smelly conditions, and is generally unsafe.
The last day I experienced what a few others did where the virtual key stopped working. I was unable to get back into the building despite more than an hour left until my checkout time. Calling the hotel number no one answers, and you can’t leave a message as the mailbox is full. I had to wait until someone else left and tailgate in to grab my stuff and leave.
Inside the hotel a a bit rundown but overall ok. The bathrooms are very small and are cleaned once a day, which depending on usage is ok or not enough. The showers were very clean and well maintained. The back patio “ambiance” is a joke.. you hear homeless yelling randomly and the smell of urine.
- Alexander (3/5): Poor -
- Kai (8/5): - Clean and comfortable rooms. Common kitchen, bathrooms and showers were all clean and well stocked. Easy access to transit and walking to Castro/mission. Only downside was the intensity or drug use and human struggle taking place outside and on surrounding blocks.
- Peter (1/5): If you want to be kept up all night by crackheads screaming out your window… stay here -
- Steffen (8/5): Very good - I had a spacious fine room, separate bathrooms were always in excellent condition. Convenient location to Bart station, and bus lines. I had no problem with the smartphone app for opening doors to the building and my room, but you need to remember to always carry your phone with you. Too much drug use in the area sorry.
- Laura (8/5): - Lots of drugged out people on the street. Not relaxed as an area to stay. People in the property are great, staff and guests. Pretty clean, bathrooms and showers were nice.
- Elena (2/5): Awfully cold - Nice house keeper, quite clean AWFULLY COLD- we stayed for 4 nights during April and it was so cold at night I got fever, sore throat and cough the next morning. No heaters or ac, old windows make it unbearable windy. I was not even able to do all the touristic stuff- just spent the whole time in bed with fever and cough. Awful experience
The street outside seemed dangerous- heard fighting sounds at night
- Zac (7/5): Good - Location, close to mission. Because of the the location the area can be frequented by a lot of drug users, but the hotel itself seems quite safe and secure once you’re inside.
- Daniel (6/5): - No hay nadie que te atienda los bajo afuera de las habitaciones no se parece a las fotos
- Parker (6/5): Pleasant - The price was great, and the fellow travelers were kind. Staff was great when I had issues with the digital key. The access key app was cumbersome and quit working prior to checkout. I hadn’t realized there was not a private en suite bathroom. I was nervous about leaving my room for a quick bathroom break because if I forgot my phone I would be locked out. The road noise was incredibly loud.
- Enrique (6/5): Pleasant - Bathroom was very clean I didn't realise rooms didn't have toilets. Though the shares toilet was super clean
- Stuart (9/5): Superb -
- William (10/5): - Great location, plenty to see and do in the immediate area. Bussing very near by. Outstanding cleaning crew keeps everything very well kept.
- Paolo (6/5): Pleasant -
- Muhtasham (8/5): Very good -
- Kai Hung (8/5): - the property itself is great. everything is clean, the bed is reasonably comfortable. the room is a little small but that doesn't matter much. the showers are shared, but they're still clean all the time, and I've never had to wait for one. the area around the property is kind of sketchy though.
- Valeria (10/5): Everything was great! Would absolutely stay there again. - Everything was kept clean. There was someone there every day and the staff was very sweet and helpful. The location was also perfect for transiting around the city. Nothing, everything was great!
- Michele (7/5): Glad to have had the experience - Very quiet, friendly guests, hospitality staff were very nice and helpful Neighborhood had a considerable number of homeless people and trash was everywhere
- Rogelio (10/5): User friendly - Super cute, and when I had a hiccup at check in they had a quick response time!
- Amartya (2/5): Very poor - Could not access the room using the provided digital key. There were no staff around and the one on the phone seemed to not know much about the rooms or which ones had the digital tap or not. Even the physical keys did not work for the rooms that I tried. After talking on the phone for half an and hour, and searching, I was finally assigned to a room where the door was already open (the keys did not work).
- Shelagh (8/5): - Right in the heart of the Mission district, this place is well situated for getting around SF by public transit. Once I figured out how to use the door app it was all good. Well taken care of.
- Beidleman (1/5): Terrible place don't go! They lie - Nothing This booking was a complete lie. This is not a bed and breakfast. This is a hostel I showed up with my family. Saw what it was. It left right away. Scary place maintenance bed in the hallways. Disgusting. Please please don't ever stay here unless you want a hostel
- Thanh (6/5): We won’t come back - - Close to downtown area
- Walkable to Bart station, Muni bus stations, grocery supermarkets, Mexican restaurants - Sketchy area: street is full of homeless people, one shooting happened on the street when we were there
- Digital key: you always have to bring along your phone in order to open your room
- Contactless stay: no one is there on site if you ever needs help, especially in the evenings or weekends
- Poor customer service: expect no reply or not-helpful, delayed reply whenever there’s a situation that their help is required
- Isaac (8/5): - The room cleaning was excellent and, generally speaking, was a quiet stay. The only challenges was sharing a bathroom with the whole floor as well as not having amenities like breakfast and a personal refrigerator. But, for a budget stay for a traveller without family it was perfect. An affordable upgrade from a hostile.
- Patrick (2/5): - My door didn’t have a lock on it.
- Ather (8/5): - Location is great (Mission District), and the rate was affordable. The shared bath and the remote staff took some adjustment to my expectations, but overall I am happy. I am giving four stars instead of five because I requested towels, and they forgot, but fixed it the next day.
- Moritz (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (10/5): - I figured that this would be a cheap hostel-style replacement. Granted it's no frills, but it's location is wonderful, the room was clean and the shared bathrooms were not really "shared" but rather individual use bathrooms that were shared with the floor. There were tons of clean towels and a very comfy bed. Everything exceeded my expectations.
- Defraties (3/5): Poor -
- Lanna (1/5): Bad - The coffee and tea selection was nice Everything was pretty terrible. Stains on our sheets, dirt on the bed, only poorly maintained communal bathrooms and showers, and uncomfy beds. No amenities or parking or any staff available.
- Jordan (8/5): - I really enjoyed my stay at 1906 Mission - it was easy to find, in a convienent part of town, the showers/bathrooms were always clean, and I didn't have an issue with the electronic locks until the last day. Check out isn't until 11 AM, but the app access stops at 10:30 AM. I went across the street to grab a coffee and was locked out of the building for a good 10 minutes until a member of the cleaning staff heard me pounding on the door. Overall great stay, but getting locked out caused a lot of unnecessary stress, would be great if the app worked until 11 AM on check out day.
- Prasann (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pierre (6/5): Good location hotel - Clean room and bathroom. Comfortable bed. Nice room. There are no on-site staff and you need to download a key app to access the hotel and your room.
Digital key via app may cause difficulties to get in.
The hotel rooms overlooking the street are very nice but very noisy (day and night).
The direct area around the place is full of homeless people
- Nidhi (4/5): Disappointing -
- Jack (8/5): - Nice place, communcal showers and bathrooms which was okay, they were kept clean.
- Nina (8/5): Very good - Very cost effective and very clean. The staff was very available via text messages and eager to help. The shower’s temperatures was either cold or all hot. I wasn’t able to get it to a comfortable temperature.
- Nailah (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE - horrific. filthy from top to bottom, impossibly small shared restrooms - think plane sized restrooms. there's clearly a lot of ne'erdowells coming here. there's no privacy. we left and found another hotel after being there all of 20 min.I want my money back.
- Jack (8/5): Generally good, a solid hotel - Good value for money, all facilities very clean Faint smell of urine in room, no reception staff and App based key made me uneasy as if anything happened to my phone or ran out of battery there was no way in to hotel or room
- Anita (5/5): Please hire human beings again - It was disconcerting not to meet a desk clerk even if the key is on an app. The room lighting was terrible and wifi code was not available.
- James (10/5): - I stayed for 9 nights and it was amazing. Close to the subway station and bus stops, wonderful service, very clean. It was great for the price.
- Vincent (7/5): convenient location next the BART the YHA style is a nice experience - the heating was too low and our room21 on the street was very noisy( insufficient sound insulation) no elevator
- Zare (5/5): Staff was drinking on job. - nothing. everything.
- Parvin (8/5): - Nicely renovated place with clean shower bathrooms and bed-rooms, toilets can be cleaner.
- Hannah (10/5): - Such a cool, weird, cozy hotel. We never saw any staff members, but someone picked up the phone immediately when I had a question about parking. The facility was quiet, and the beds were very comfortable. I would definitely stay again.
- Philippe (9/5): Very clean- Confortable - close everything - Clean - confortable - Little bit too modern. Key iPhone is not 100% reliable. Noisy between rooms. Carpet to the floor is not the best choice to be absolutely clean.
- Hasham (7/5): Good -
- Tash (8/5): Spacious for San Fran - Room size was great with a big bay window looking out into the street. It was clean and felt fresh. The shared bathroom was very clean and modern. Very comfortable hotel and felt like a safe space inside. Accommodation in SF is very expensive and this one was on the more affordable side. Some awesome bars nearby. Free coffee and tea provided - yay! There are no on-site staff and you need to download a key app to access the hotel and your room. We had some technical difficulties with this through no fault of our own and no one to help us on arrival. Our first telephone call went unanswered. Took a while before we could get in.
The area is great but simultaneously there are some confronting characters on the streets. This was fine for us but something travellers should be mindful of.
- Oleg (8/5): Very good -
- Patricia (9/5): Superb -
- Marcia (2/5): Very poor -
- Plunkett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Norah (7/5): Good - great location but would not suit everyone, there is a lot of homelessness in this area. The shower rooms were kept very clean my room on the 3rd floor was hot and the fans were broken/inadequate
- Soltero (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kyle (5/5): Passable - Location was good as far as centrally located but bad for veing a bit rough. No AC!
- Zimin (2/5): - The staff member is extremely rude. When I was asking for clarifications on the checkout policy, the staff member literally told me to "just get the f out" because I was asking questions. Do not live here. You will NOT have a good experience.
- Christina (8/5): Clean and Comfortable Overall - Shower was beautiful! Outdoor patio area was nice as well. Location was really good, just 2-3 short blocks from Valencia. The place was clean and well maintained. Street parking is supposed to be available but good luck finding any. Nearest parking garage is about 3-4 blocks away so plan to bring a rolling suitcase that you don’t have to carry. There are a lot of homeless in the area, they are lined all down the front of Mission Street and the front of the hotel. They weren’t rude or intrusive but I did worry a little bit being female and only with my daughter. If you leave the property through the patio it’s more comfortable. Lastly, there was no AC. The weather was warm when we went so it was a little warm for us in the room even with the w window open.
- Brian (5/5): Passable -
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Scott (8/5): - Location is so central, it's awesome. Everything is right outside the door. The place is super clean - the staff is on top of it. The only thing i suggest is that the rooms need furniture - a chest of drawers makes a weeklong stay so much easier. I'm OCD, and my stuff was all over the place - made me anxious! haha
- Kamilah (9/5): Overall if you are looking for an affordable place to stay in San Francisco so that you can sightsee - It’s a hostel. It’s on the corner of 15th and Mission one block from the Bart station. There are shared bathrooms and restrooms( they are not in the room but located on the same floor) those facilities are cleaned every day. The room was clean and bright as well as the bedding. The on-site property manager was really accommodating and very nice. Dislikes( not many)
1. The bed wasn’t that comfy
2. The Wi-Fi was spotty and the tv would disconnect a lot.
3(this not a reflection of the property or management) between 15th and 16th on Mission during the beginning of the month there are a tone of “sidewalk vendors“ and for some ppl that me be a culture shock.
- Andrea (8/5): Nice stay for a nice price. Relaxing and economical. - The rooms were comfortable. Easy to use the door app system. Bathrooms were also clean. Nothing really.
- Richard (8/5): Very good - Great Shared Facilities and security Basics only
- Grace (8/5): - The property was kept clean and well stocked. The shared showers and bathrooms were cleaned very regularly. The beds were comfortable and had lots of pillows. The key system to the building and room was electronic with smart locks, so very convenient. The room was rather warm at night but a borrowed fan helped. There were a couple times where the other guests left behind a bit of a mess in between housekeeping visits or were inconsiderate but that is nothing against the property or staff.
What I didn't like was the street the property was on and the immediate area. There were quite a few homeless individuals in front of the front door and nearby periodically. The sidewalk out front is basically a flea market on the weekends for a block and a half in either direction, where you literally have to step over and around people and their stuff spread out all over the ground. It smelled and was dirty, with trash all over the street and sidewalk, and we felt uncomfortable walking to and from the property.
- Andrade (7/5): Modern, clean and simple inside. Uncomfortable to walk on the sidewalk. - Only coffee and tea was available The inside was perfect. Right outside the main entrance, the sidewalk in this area was extremely uncomfortable to walk through. There were many transients, trash scattered, and strong urine odors
- Leilani (6/5): Good location to all the sites but sketchy neighborhood - Rooms and bathrooms were clean. The mattress in room 302 had a dip on one side of the mattress and it made uncomfortable to sleep on. Directions on where to place dirty towels in one of the bathrooms. No elevators
- Erika (1/5): Horrible accommodations shared one stall bathroom and broken shower slats on shower floor! - Nothing. Wish I could score you a zero! The entry door was surrounded by homeless ppl. The entry door was SHATTERED glass! I DID NOT feel safe at all. We Did Not stay here because it was unnerving having our security door shattered with all the homeless people around. Could hardly get to the door with my luggage. They Do Not offer a refund even though we never stayed here! Very unaccomidating and a far distance from Pier 39. NOT SAFE!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!! I HAD A RENTAL CAR AND REFUSED TO PARK ON THE STREET!
- Tyree (8/5): - The inside was pretty. It was clean and security lock in was good.
- Toni (1/5): very unsafe location. had to leave early and not complete 2 more nights of my stay as we didn’t feel safe staying there. - the facilities and room was clean and ok. the location was very unsafe and very dirty. the doorway to the hotel had shattered glass and homeless and junkies were hanging around outside it during the day! at night when we arrived some drunk guy was hanging around outside the corner of the hotel.
- Manuel (1/5): Bad -
- Cook (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Joel (4/5): This is a very low comfort accommodation. Basic comforts are worth paying more. - I saw almost no one. No noise from other guests at all. It felt as if I had the place to myself, even the bathrooms and showers. The bed was uncomfortable, the tv did not work at all, the showers had low pressure and had inconsistent temperature- either very hot or very cold. The rooms are not temperature controlled.
- Connor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heather (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (1/5): Bad -
- Adriana (8/5): just as described on the listing, clean and centrally located - Clean, easy access, quiet
