Guest Reviews
- Laura (10/5): Great place - Lovely hotel, beautiful rooms. Food amazing and lovely service and people :)
- Chris (8/5): - Really clean hotel both in the room and the bar and restaurant. Friendly staff particularly Katherine andGeorge on the first night and the lady who looked after us at breakfast.
Only downside was the fish on the first night and chicken wings on the second night were a bit ovetcooked.
- Shelley (8/5): - Room was clean and comfortable and parking was easy. Staff were all friendlyand courteous and the breakfast was really tasty. We had some lovey lovely little touches in our room which was much appreciated.
- John (10/5): Very nice hotel - Very comfortable stay
Super friendly and helpful staff
Great breakfast
Second time we have stayed here and it is going to be our first choice when in the area
- Carol (6/5): - Standard of food was poor particularly evening meal. Location not great - very busy main road very close to hotel.
- Kevin (10/5): Great stay - It was a really lovely overnight stay, we couldn’t fault anything. Staff were friendly and attentive. Our room was lovely with everything you could need, lovely selection of coffee and tea, yummy biscuits and even a bottle of Porter to enjoy. The bed was very comfortable and great toiletries supplied. We had an evening meal which was very nice and the complimentary breakfast was delicious and set us up for the day. If in the area would definitely revisit
- Robert (10/5): - One night stay we had a lovely time and rooms well equipped. The hot weather made the room hot and air con would be a benefit. All rooms are on the ground floor. Food was great. Poor and inadequate lighting in the ladies toilet in the bar area.
- John (10/5): Would Return - Don't usually do reviews however, happy to do so for the Cromwell Arms. Impressed with the design of the room and how well laid it was. Complimentary water, coffee, biscuits, fresh milk and a bottle of beer provided. Thanks for acknowledging partner's birthday - card appreciated. Although the room fronted a busy road, the double glazing was very effective. Air con also worked well. Food and drink were good and took advantage of the fixed price evening meal - well priced and beautifully cooked. Breakfast was cooked to order and very tasty. All the staff we met were friendly (thanks Tom) and helpful. Pleased we booked and would return if back in the area.
- Peter (10/5): - Good location for us visiting relatives and staff and service were excellent.
- Michael (10/5): - Love coming to stay here always really good. Would have been five stars had we hit a quiet room which we requested and cobwebs on ceiling and a stray blonde hair on the tartan decoration pillow.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay - This is an amazing place to stay overnight at before a cruise we were to pick up in Southampton the next day.
We stayed here last year for the same reason. The rooms are lovely, staff are very welcoming and the food is great. Romsey is a lovely town to explore, short walk along the river test, through a lovely park, have a look round the Cathedral on the way, very nice.
- Alvar James (8/5): - Excellent staff, Michael and Sean
- Julie (10/5): - Very clean and everything worked.
- Joseph (10/5): - Check in was quick and easy. Room very comfortable. Lovley bathroom amenities. It was a very hot day and grateful for the air conditioner in the room.
- duncan (10/5): - Great location and room comfort
- Shirley (10/5): - I chose the Cromwell Arms because of the ground floor rooms as my friend uses a walker and cannot manage stairs. We were both delighted with the room, the dining options and the wonderful staff - they were so kind and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.
It is very close to the town centre, so we were able to go into Romsay easily and quickly - excellent.
- Nicola (10/5): - Everything was excellent. A great place to stay with friendly staff lovely comfortable rooms and a well appointed bathroom and a super breakfast.
- Susan (10/5): - The Room was good and included a Nespresso Coffee machine and good quality teabags.
I especially liked the large Bath sheets.
Above all the staff were all very helpful and welcoming.
The side of the property which is on a main road looked a little uninviting.Unfortunately the traffic causes dirt to splash up onto the windows.Overall I would recommend the Cromwell Arms.
- Phillippa (10/5): - Really nice pub/hotel on the outskirts of Romsey (walkable in about 15 mins).
Comfy bed, good decor, nice bathroom. Food was very good too 😁
- Angela (10/5): - Loved the location. Great hotel free parking. Fantastic clean modern rooms. Whole hotel great.
- JANINE (10/5): - Staff were very helpful and friendly, room was clean, modern and peaceful. Most unusual curved bathroom door added to the charm of the room.
- Stephen (10/5): - Charming
- BRIAN (8/5): overnight tour - Very modern, spacious and comfortable room. Dinner menu was good with very good choice of drinks. Good cooked breakfast, but there could have been more options available. The service at breakfast was slow.
The only disappointment was the toilet had urine in it on our arrival. The beer garden was also packed with kids running around, making it difficult to carry luggage through the throng.
- John (8/5): There is a lot to like about this place. - An overnight stay prior to cruising from Southampton - great option in that respect and we will be back.
Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Food was good and as the sun was out, the outside patio area was lovely. Very impressed that they had some outdoor games for adults and children and what looked like bottles of sun cream - if they were, then very impressive.
Room (disabled Superior room) was a good size and clean with some quality touches (Tea Pig tea bags for example).
If you want to be nit-picky, the pillows were too firm for me and a bit of grouting on the wet room floor looked as though it needed replacing.
We will definitely be booking again when we come down for our next trip later in the year.
- Andrew (10/5): Cromwell - Great hotel with comfortable rooms. Good bar a restaurant
- Samantha (10/5): - This was our fourth time visiting the Cromwell Arms. It's a lovely little gem for a sneaky little night away for 2. Rooms are lovely and the pub serves delicious food. My only gripe was that they no longer give you the mini bottle of gin and tonic water in the room, which was always a nice touch, we got the normal bottle of bear.... but no gin for me :-(.
- Patricia e (10/5): Lovwly - Lovely stay as always. Relaxed, friendly, well appointed
- Jay (10/5): - Excellent stay, great location and pub. Excellent rooms with all the amenities you need and comfy bed.
- Janet (10/5): An excellent overnight stopover - Helpful & friendly staff & lovely room maybe a bit hot at times. The food was delicious.
- Brian (10/5): - All good
- David (10/5): - I had a wonderful stay at the Cromwell Arms recently. The room was clean and comfortable, with plenty of towels and amenities. The breakfast was wonderful with plenty of choice, and the restaurant staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is close to Romsey and conveniently located in the area. Highly recommended!
- John (10/5): - superb room with very comfortable bed and excellent en suite. Reception was quick, efficient and charming. All staff here are super and nothing seems too much trouble. A lovely breakfast rounded off a perfect stay. Highly recommended
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great hotel. - Very friendly welcome on arrival. Room was comfortable and we were given an upgrade which was amazing. The breakfast was a great selection and tasty.
- Patricia e (10/5): - Lovely place to stay, comfortable, great facilities and exceptionally friendly helpful staff.
- Sam (8/5): - Very nice rooms and a great location. Unfortunately the kitchen flooded on the Saturday night so we couldn't get our cooked breakfasts. I realise this is beyond the hotels control but I cant give 5 stars without my cooked breakfast.
- David (8/5): - Lovely location, great staff
- Michaela (10/5): - We had a lovely stay here as a family of 3.
Breakfast was some of the best we’ve had, drink options were fantastic.
The room spacious, clean and had everything in we could need.
Minor thing to mention the room was extremely hot!
Turned all heating off and opened the windows helped.
We will for sure be returning.
Thank you for a wonderful stay.
- Mr M (10/5): A GOOD PLACE TO STAY IN ROMSEY - The hotel is on the edge of Romsey with excellent parking. The picturesque walk into to the centre of town along the river bank is about half a mile. The staff are friendly and helpful and the hotel is comfortable. The restaurant is good too.
- Andrew (8/5): Great little hotel - Great little hotel with cozy and comfortable rooms with a nice restaurant and bar.
- Josephine (8/5): - Beautiful room, friendly staff
- Cally (8/5): - Lovely hotel and staff only we had a family room with 1 bed, albeit a super king. We assumed we’re all to sleep in the big bed only to be told the next morning that there should have been another bed put in the room. We were told that we would get it made up to us but nothing has been said or done since.
- Richard (10/5): - .
- Maryann (10/5): - The staff were extremely accommodating, the food was excellent and the ambiance charming.
- Richard (10/5): - Great establishment, served requirements for embarking on cruise holiday from Southampton . Highly recommended
- Ben (10/5): Good place to stay and explore - Rooms are good - size is OK, bathrooms good: powerful shower and huge fluffy towels. All very clean.
Food in the restaurant very good - both breakfast and evening. Service in restaurant and bar nice and friendly
8-10 minute walk into centre of town.
- Antony (10/5): - Wonderful location clean and the staff were very friendly
- Madeleine (8/5): Well run historic inn - This hotel was delightful and set in beautiful landscape. Staff were helpful and food exceptional. Our room was lovely, clean etc. The hotel was very good value and we may return.
Had a beautiful quiet walk directly from the pub after supper alongside the River and past a mill and picturesque old houses and into the centre of Romsey via a park.
- James (10/5): Great choice - Charming Inn and upscale pub. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. Full breakfast included. Room was very comfortable. (Best towels ever!) Staff was very accommodating. 20 minutes from Southampton but just what we wanted for comfort. Would stay here again
- Kerry (8/5): - Very nice rooms and bar area but what lets it down is the service in the restaurant evenings meal was bad but breakfast we waited 45minutes to for our breakfast to be served and it wasn’t busy.
Staff friendly and food good when it came.
- Simon (6/5): Sadly lacking - We have stayed here before but it was lacking. Do not stay in the cosy rooms dark and claustrophobic. There were a number of items on the menu not available and to be honest just because it had been busy is no excuse. Brown sauce not available at breakfast! Please.
- James (10/5): - Highly recommend would definitely stay again well worth it.
- duncan (8/5): - Room was good but no air con so slightly warm.
Food and service good but food time from kitchen was very slow and not busy!
- Derek (10/5): - Excellent staff
- Geraldine (10/5): Lovely place to stay - They are having building work at the moment so a bit noisy at times.
The room was spacious and comfortable. Bathroom very clean.
Excellent value for money. Included breakfast which was beautifully presented and tasty.
- Robert (8/5): - Generally very clean bedrooms and well sized. Nice touches like a mini bar with complimentary water and fresh milk plus a bottle of Fullers beer!
- Michael (10/5): Romsey Feb24 - Room very nice. Breakfast good with plenty of choice. Well located with centre of Romsey a 10 minute walk away, with the option of walking along the river.
- John (2/5): Not good enough - The whole room would benefit from a deep clean particularly bathroom but found black hairs in the bedroom and a hairball on the bed throw and the bed carried several yellow stains! However by far the biggest complaint is lack of hot water which remained lukewarm throughout the 2 days despite reporting it on the 1st morning and met with the comment nobody else has complained. Water should be 50c at taps and this never met that temperature as you could run it for several minutes while holding your hand under the water quite easily which wouldn't be the case if it was the correct safe temperature. Food was OK but pricey and plentiful.
- Sunday (2/5): Learn - Are you a delivery man? Just dropping off a package in the rudest tone ever!
I was travelling for work and
- Brian (10/5): - A Very Nice Comfortable Stay. 4 Nights.
Staff Could do with organising Better Plus they Need A Uniform to tell them from The Customers
- Mary (10/5): - Great food in the restaurant. The town of Romsey is historic and fun to explore.
- Adrian (10/5): - It is a nice quiet country inn, very close to town. Friendly staff, very nice room and the food was good.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Excellent place in all aspects
- Rob (8/5): Stylish boutique rooms - Great boutique style hotel rooms attached to a pub. Hi standard of rooms/finish with lots of nice touches (complimentary tea, espresso machine, G&T & water in room). Great base for Romsey & surrounds
- Elayne (10/5): - Very nice, comfortable, and clean room. Handy car park and nice outdoor area. Friendly staff, good breakfast, and great location being only a short stroll into the little town. Would stay there again if we are the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good ,dog friendly place to stay - Glorious weather, good place to stay. Dog friendly .
Rooms need air con
Extremely hot even with fan provided
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely hotel - We had a lovely stay at the hotel, the rooms were very up to date and the general decor was lovely. Our room was quite hot however a dyson fan and air conditioning unit were in our room when we arrived. The food was okay, but did not match the quality of the hotel. We will return again when we are in the area next, however will choose to go out for dinner rather than dine in.
- Peter (10/5): Fabulous Hotel - One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in, staff are excellent so friendly, nothing is too much trouble. We had fish and chips in the restaurant and it was superb. We would definitely return to this hotel
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very good. - Staff was outstanding. Rooms were comfortable and fairly roomy. Breakfast was very good as well.
- Amy (4/5): - Room was very warm, despite being given two fans- these rooms are stifling. Book a room round the back by the car park and not by the front near the road. They say pet friendly and used to give dog bowls/biscuits but there was nothing in our room.
We have stayed many times as our family live in Romsey and sadly it has gone downhill since Sean left.
The courtyard/garden area that you walk past when you go to the room- laundry drying on display, staff smoking, cardboard/ rubbish stacked up for guests to see- not very appealing!
Room was not as clean as it could be- we spilt some water on the floor and when we wiped, the cloth was really dirty which tells us that the floor needs a good clean. Bathroom tiles are showing signs of mould/water residue and need attention.
Staff not very welcoming like the used to be (you can walk past the reception several times without a hello, or any interaction.
Breakfast again mediocre- the wait time has always been extensive. When there was only another table for breakfast?
It is such a shame that this isn’t amazing like it used to be as it is right on the river test and Romsey itself and all it has to offer is amazing.
I do hope they make a few improvements here.
- stephen (4/5): - The food was good but the time it took to get our wine at dinner and the sweet menus was terrible
The room Green drake was the hottest we have ever stayed in and you could not cool it enough with fans that were provided .they were too noisy to have on over night The people in room above so noisy from 11pm till 2am and we think they also had a dog you could hear then again at 5am
We were not asked at check out how our stay was
so i did not bother to say anything as they were not interested enough to find out
- graham victor (10/5): - Easy parking . Great staff. Good food with an excellent included breakfast . The Boutique style rooms were of a really good standard
- Mark (6/5): Good and bad - The room was clean and comfortable. A fridge with milk and water being restocked daily and a coffee station with ample coffee and tea supplied . I wish to thank the room cleaners for doing a superb job .
The only thing that let the stay down was the quality of staff at the breakfast or dining in the pub . We were made to feel extremely unwelcome and the food was appalling.
We went for dinner at another Fullers pub in Romsey and the staff and food there was top notch , so it must just be a problem at Cromwell arms .
- Clive (10/5): - Very clear room with tea and coffee machine, friendly staff. Breakfast choice fantastic cooked to order.
Will definitely return.
- Michael (8/5): - We enjoyed our birthday stay but we’re scammed while there. Nationwide got in touch by email because we were unable to answer the messages they were sending to our home. Tried repeatedly to phone out from our room to 0800 number but refused every time.
Luckily I located Nationwide in Romsey was available to us, so we called into there & solved our problem no thanks to your hotel.
- E (10/5): Overnight with dog prior to ferry from Southampton - Excellent overnight stay. Staff were very friendly. Room was comfortable even though it was very hot. The fan was most welcome. The breakfast was as good as any 5 star hotel.
- Neil (10/5): Nice place to Stay and close to Monttisfont - What a lovely place to stay! Nice and clean comfortable beds and nicely equipped with tea and coffee facilities and milk in the fridge!! Warm welcome at the reception.
Menu choice was a little limited, but the quality and quantity of the meals was excellent. Breakfast menu was a little disappointing as a plain cereal choice (e.g., corn flakes Weetabix) was not available and everything else, except porridge, included coconut to which I am not partial.
- Anthony (10/5): - Fabulous property, very friendly staff and a great evening meal.
I’ll definitely be back
- Steve (8/5): Recommended - Lovely room but on a noisy corridor.
No gluten free sausage or toast either morning.
- Sheila (10/5): - The bed in our room was so comfortable. Quality tea and coffee provided in the room. Lots of lovely hot water in the en-suite. Dining was good with excellent service. There were ample car parking spaces.
- Neil (10/5): Excellent - Great room, service and food
- Robert (10/5): - Comfortable and quiet rooms. Excellent selection of free drinks in room. Plenty of friendly staff
- sean (2/5): Never again - Unbearably hot, with no way to turn the heating off. No one seemed interested to help us, so we left.....gutted
- Jerry (10/5): Excellent hospitality - Excellent hospitality, customer service, tasty food & comfortable over night accommodation.
- sharon (8/5): Good value but noisy room - Very well equipped room with lovely extras (e.g., high quality toiletries, drinks and chocolates) but noisy during the night from the room above. I think this was down to a lack of sound proofing. Meant a poor night’s sleep. Breakfast was marred by a lack of organisation. Very good juice and pastries but cold coffee, no bread available for toast and having to ask for basics e.g, butter and milk. Strangely there was a bowl of approx 50 marmite sachets but no butter or preserves. The breakfast service gaps was maybe a one off but the noise is a deal breaker re another stay, unless a top floor room could be guaranteed- or sound proofing installed.
- Wendy (10/5): Lovely - Lovely hotel, great staff. Limited veggie options
- Rosemary (10/5): - Lovely place to stay
- francois (4/5): - les sols sot sales
les tables du restaurant ne sont pas propres
- Charles (10/5): - Restaurant staff not very attentive very slow not a enuve staff. House keeping staff fantastic. Reception good . Will stay here again when in England next. over all Exhalant.
- Sallys Little (8/5): Superb - An excellent stay in a very nice room with good service. We had a meal with local friends on Saturday evening which was to a very good standard. Would recommend as a great location central to lots of New Forest attractions.
- Linda (10/5): Dog friendly stay - We booked The Cromwell Arms because of its “dog friendly” status and it was. Dogs allowed in the dining room (one area which is absolutely fine)!, free dog biscuits to help yourself and a once only cleaning fee of £15. The room was very spacious and well finished. Excellent touches like proper black out curtains and free artisan coffee and teas, fresh milk in fridge which were replenished. The sound proofing from outside (important as beside busy road) was excellent but not matched with internally - any corridor noise or next door was very apparent. Overall, we would happily return. A short stroll into Romsey which is a lovely market town.
- Peter (10/5): Beatle - It was extremely good staff were very helpful and service was excellent
- Verified traveler (10/5): Bank Holiday mini break. - From the time of arriving to leaving, the staff couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating.
This made for a much needed relaxing break and the atmosphere was so inviting and enjoyable.
Would we stay again .... Most definitely
- p (10/5): Lovely place to stay. - Everything was lovely, clean, great staff. Only the heat in the bedroom was difficult overnight. Gin and chocolate a nice touch.
This was a repeat stay and we will stay again.
- Pennie (10/5): - This is the best hotel we have stayed at during this trip.
- kenneth (8/5): Pre-cruise stop - Good hotel, fine food, very pleasant room. Only negative was check in as we arrived at 2:15 to find the receptionist on a call, no issue with that until it became clear she was on to a colleague and complaining over 'the amount of work she had been asked to do'........10 minutes later she was still on the call although we had stood waiting. When the call ended her welcome was "you alright there?".
Not a great start but thereafter all was very good
- Robert (10/5): Great local pub/hotel - great location very friendly staff, clean and comfortable
- Lucy (10/5): Hidden gem - Fantastic :)
- Elizabeth (10/5): - The location was good. Just a short walk into Romsey within a few minutes. This was our 1st visit & we were very impressed. The accommodation was excellent & the staff friendly & most helpful. Would definitely stay again.
- Patricia (8/5): - Very much a friendly place and staff towards dogs, which we travel with.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice and convenient location just outside the New Forest
