Guest Reviews
- Willem (8/5): Wonderful stay at Lirio Lodge - Wonderful logde, with great service at a beautiful location. A real shame that Hotels.com had the wrong location on their website which Made us drive almost 3 hours in the wrong direction:(
- Barbara De Zutter (4/5): only interesting if this comes in a package deal - We booked Lirio Lodge as a 3 night stay at the end of July and our intention was that this was going to be our gateway to Tortuguero. We were foremost interested in the turtle nesting, which - according to our research - takes place from July through September. We knew the lodges were of a "back to nature" concept and we had embraced the idea of not having internet or phone reception for 3 days. We also knew that the lodge was located on an island (no cars can get there, the hotel boat picks you up and drops you off at the end of your stay) but we did not know that the lodge was the only accommodation on the island. Booking a room with breakfast was therefore completely useless since there was nowhere to go. Lunch and dinner were provided by the lodge and obviously obligatory. Meals were at 25 dollar per person per meal. A family of 4 (like us) pays $200 per day on meals alone. Since there was absolutely nothing to do on the facility, we were desperate for a way to pass the time therefore we engaged in the two 2-hour tours that were offered daily. They offer a boat ride, a morning walk and a visit to sea turtle conservation area where we got to see exactly one baby turtle through a fence. Tours were 35 dollars per tour per person. The lodge is of a 'back to nature" concept and I can handle the no windows and insects in the room, but are fitted sheets, mattress protector or a working shower too much to expect? Amenities are also not sufficient for the number of guests.
- Melissa (8/5): Incredibly unique and peaceful place to stay. - With only about 15 cabins, this place can never be over-crowded. You arrive by boat...there are no roads! All your meals are cooked for you and are very good! You have the opportunity for two outings each day with an informative guide, and a night outing to see the turtles if the timing of your stay is right.
