We got a chance to walk into town and see different things. It made a nice getaway weekend days for us. Thank you for your kindness. Everything was good, didn’t really see anything that needed to be changed or done better. But I really enjoyed your chocolate chip cookies. They were so good. I wish we had them in our room complementary. But everything else was beautiful. I didn’t wanna leave.

- Daverin (8/5): - The happy hour and ice cream sandwiches were a nice touch. If it wasn't so hot, it would have been enjoyable to rock on the porch or sit in the yard. The bath was nice though we didn't take advantage of the spa tub. No directions around as to how to use. It was short walk to the tourist downtown of Manteo so that was enjoyable. The furniture and the decoration was lovely and well organized. The breakfast was delicious. The stairs up to our room would be illegal in Massachusetts. They were not safe and not manageable for bringing up our luggage. We ended up just bringing up the necessary things which meant we needed to open the luggage in the car to sort. Guests should be warned ahead of time about this as we are 68 and 77 and it was a manageable but not comfortable situation for us. The air, though nice and cool for a hot day, was blowing on our heads all night so not very comfortable. Not sure if we did anything wrong but the owners skipped offering us juice in the morning at breakfast or even saying hello while they seemed to have friendly banter with the other guests...maybe they were not first time visitors? Hard to say that it encouraged us to want to visit again. We do visit the area every year, so it's a shame, but at our age maybe they were thinking we didn't have much longer to go ; ). I also wouldn't recommend to friends or family if that's a goal. We paid $320 which is about range for the area on a Friday mid summer but it certainly wasn't a bargain so no reason there.for a slight. Parking was on the street, I wouldn't call that "provided" though it turned out to be OK as we got the closest spot by luck.

- Barbara L (8/5): Beware of ANTS!!! - The B&B is very charming & staff is very welcoming and kind; however, when I woke up in the morning, there was an ant infestation, and they also got into our bed, and clothing. When I reported it to the management, there were no apologies - only “ thank you so much for letting us know. We've been battling the ants with all this rain. We'll get it taken care of.” When paying a decent price for a night, it would have been nice to minimally receive an apology.

A true “spa like” feel/ experience! The property is beautiful, serene and many lovely plants and art work to enjoy! This truly is a a very special get-away property! If you are looking for the usual pool//hot tub experience… look elsewhere. If you would enjoy a pampering experience in a truly lovely unique one of a kind accommodation, you have found it!

Very comfortable lobby/living room set up. Our rooms were comfortable and quiet. We stayed for a concert and there isn't much parking space at the inn but it isn't a super busy street to find something close by. Loved interacting with the staff and other guests. The breakfast was amazing!

- Jane (8/5): Cute charming Manteo BnB conveniently located - Pretty and charming decor, nice chandeliers, comfortable bed, quality linens, cute antique furniture, nice landscaping with flowers all over, little waterfall pond, cute decorations. Beautiful porch for sitting. Gas fireplace in the room. Good breakfast, more food than you could eat. Great coffee machine. Spacious room, large bathroom. Great location for exploring Manteo and nearby barrier islands. Good restaurants nearby. Bicycles are available from the inn to roam around the neighborhood. Cookies in the lobby. Electric door locks prevent losing keys. Happy hour daily, for those who like wine and snacks, although we skipped it. Noise from the door of the adjacent kitchen, no soundproofing from kitchen work area. (Stayed in Garden room). Heard loud voices, clinking dishes every morning very early. Woke us up. Then when we lay down for an afternoon nap, similar experience as they prepared the happy hour snacks. Kind of annoying and inconvenient. We also were cold and didn't find out we could adjust the heat until a few days after we checked in as the control was not in the room but located behind a door marked "do not disturb". Would have been good to be informed of the location of the control upon check in. We also never got the promised wifi login info, although we didn't use it much and relied on cell service. Inn keepers never said hello in person or introduced themselves, which was very odd for us, having stayed in many bnbs worldwide. That always seems to be part of the bnb experience that makes it special vs a hotel. (although we got several text messages) . That just felt impersonal. I also saw a bug in the tub, a little silver-fish which made me avoid trying the big soaking tub that initially looked very appealing. Only saw one but figured if there is a baby bug, there must be more adults hidden. Didn't want to make a fuss and risk breathing toxic insecticide, so just used the shower instead.

- Rory (9/5): Lovely - THE BED, as well as having a unique charm, is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in - including my own at home ! We had the Roanoke room. The breakfasts were excellent. The location is an easy walk to the marina and a few restaurants. The wine and nibbles (included) in the late afternoon was a great way to meet and talk to other guests. It was a bit awkward to carry suitcases up to the third floor on a narrow staircase, it would not have suited anyone with mobility problems. - Robert (10/5): Wonderful stay - The White Doe Inn is an excellent place to stay. My wife and I are already planning our next visit back! The rooms are dated but comfortable and the meals and snacks are yummy. We especially appreciated the breakfast and the daily happy hour. The beds are comfortable but the wifi is pretty bad, which I understand is a problem all over the area so that was ok. We really felt good about being there under the new owners, who were really kind people. We had a minor issue with our room and mentioned to the owners and their response was even better than we thought. We were already planning on returning, but how the owners responded to our concerns guaranteed a return trip.

Plumbing issue (leak from above); however, innkeeper was on top of it. Plumber had been there earlier during the week and it appeared everything was repaired.

Will come back again for the 3rd time. I didn’t like the Halloween displays. I don’t like witches and ghosts. The last time we went in December where there were nice Christmas decorations. I love that! Also, when we were checking out and wanted to purchase a cup there wasn’t a staff on site. There was also some confusions on our bill because of the gift certificate that we have that didn’t get deducted from our bills.

- Philip (4/5): - We stayed in the Tower Suite. Considering the very high price, we thought this would be the best suite. There were multiple bugs in our room (both flying and crawling, including an approximately 3 inch palmetto bug), the carpet and chairs had dirty spots on them, the deep clawfoot tub would not hold water, and the second TV in the sitting room is not functional because it is not attached to a cable box. Additionally, we did not know the room is in what used to be the attic. Therefore, there are sloping ceilings corresponding to the angles of the roof. These sloped ceilings render much of the room unusable and dangerous and have resulted in numerous head collisions. Being in the attic required using two flights of stairs, the second of which was very difficult to maneuver. In summary, the room has very poor utility. The advertised square footage of the room doesn't take into consideration the head-busting sloping ceilings. Also, when sitting on the toilet, there are about 12 inches of space before your head comes into contact with the ceiling. Knowing what we know now, we would not book this room even if it were free. As you can tell, we are very unhappy with our stay.
- Whitney (10/5): Cozy Bed and Breakfast - This is a very sweet historic bed and breakfast. The house is cozy and they were very accommodating. As you can imagine for an old home, everything is not fully updated, but it was very comfortable and clean. The walls are thin so you can hear movement of other guests a little. Breakfast was very nice, and they have lovely sittings areas inside and outside.

- David (10/5): Will stay again! - We had a wonderful stay at this B&B. Staff was outstanding. One lady, who we both think was an owner, gave us 4 uprooted plants because I asked her what they were. Turns out they were Mexican Petunias and the flowers had bloomed during our stay. Just planted them in a pot at home. Looking forward to our next visit.

She was very nice and informative about the area. The rug in out room kept catching on the door creating a tripping hazard (my wife did trip). Would recommend taping it down for safety (or removing it entirely.

We used the bikes and went around on them. Meagan was helpful and hospitable. And man, those ice cream sandwiches are incredible! This place was worth every penny!

What makes the experience so special are your hosts, Pam and Chip..as soon as we arrived we felt like we were “home” at our weekend getaway.. room was ready, comfy and clean. We were fortunate to have our anniversary dinner prepared at the inn on our 2nd night by a local chef, who prepared our steak tenderloins to perfection, and to top that - bananas foster for dessert! This is a special place...homemade ice cream sandwiches, wine and cheese in the afternoon..and, or just sit in the living room with Pam and have a chat. We will definitely be back... Your experience at the Inn is their number one priority ...ours was top notch!

- Dominic (10/5): Relaxing, well taken care of, great room! - The start of our stay was a little choppy as we were made aware of the "no kids under 12" policy upon our arrival. We so happened to be there, after driving 3 hours from Raleigh, with our 7 year old. Nowhere on Hotels.com did I see anything about a "no children" policy. At any rate, the hotel manager was very understanding and did, ultimately, allow us to stay. From that point on, we couldn't have imagined a better stay. The breakfasts were amazing (biscuits, croissants, eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, grits, fruit...I could go on and on). The grounds were also very beautiful. The rope swing was a major hit with our daughter. There were plenty of places to sit around and just relax, which was a major component of this weekend. The room was a dream! The queen size bed was a little small for the 3 of us...but they had a mattress inflated for our second night there and everyone was on cloud nine after that. The bathtub was one of the most comfortable bathtubs I've ever been in. And it was really cool to see how retro it was (especially the handles). Absolutely loved the robes, too...awesome touch! The balcony was the thing of dreams...especially our first morning when we actually got out there in time to see the sun rise. They also allowed us to ride bikes (I rode my first tandem bike with my daughter) into town, which was a lot of fun. One drawback to the surrounding area is that everything closes at 8pm. But with a kid...it wasn't like we were partying! :p

We absolutely loved the Raleigh Room and also our special spot on th front porch with a lovely cross breeze. The 4-course breakfast was amazing and delicious, and the afternoon snack was also delicious (homemade coconut cake one day and homemade German chocolate cake the next day. A short walk to the downtown area of Manteo with great restaurant choices, a charming bookstore and art museum.
