Guest Reviews
- Sally (4/5): Not a good value - New carpeting in room Breakfast, bathroom
- Chris (5/5): Okay but likely better options - It was available when I needed to book graduation weekend. Outdated property and over priced.
Disappointed in the little things like extra towels (we received 2), didn’t refill coffee in the room each day, plus cleaning didn’t empty the old coffee pouch from coffee maker. There was an old dried up coffee pouch still in the machine when I first used it, then when I reused it from the previous day old coffee pouch still in the machine.
Continental breakfast ends way too early at 9am.

- rickhX6872WN (10/5): Woot woot - My Stay at AmericInn by Wyndham
I recently stayed at AmericInn by Wyndham, and overall it was a pretty solid experience. I’ll break it down honestly—the good, the bad, and the just-okay parts—plus a few tips I’d give friends if they were planning to stay there.
The Good
The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how clean and cozy the lobby felt. AmericInn locations usually have that lodge-style vibe with warm lighting, wood accents, and comfortable seating, and this one didn’t disappoint. Check-in was quick and easy, and the staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful.
The room itself was spacious and comfortable. The bed had plenty of pillows and a firm mattress, which made it easy to get a good night’s sleep. The room also had the usual essentials: a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and a decent-sized TV. Everything looked well maintained, and housekeeping had clearly done a good job preparing the room.
Breakfast was another highlight. The free breakfast included things like waffles, pastries, cereal, yogurt, and coffee. The waffle station is always fun, and it’s nice to grab something hot before heading out for the day.
The Just-OK Stuff
The Wi-Fi worked super fast. It was fine for checking email or scrolling on your phone, streaming video calls were just fine might.
The pool area was decent but nothing fancy. It was clean and good for relaxing.
The Not-So-Great
One thing that could be improved is soundproofing. Depending on where your room is located, you might hear hallway noise or doors closing. It wasn’t terrible, but if you're a light sleeper it’s something to keep in mind.
Also, the breakfast area can get crowded during peak morning hours, so finding a table might take a minute.
Tips & Recommendations
- Try to grab breakfast earlier if you can—around 7 AM is usually quieter.
- Ask for a room away from the elevator or ice machine for a quieter stay.
- If you like swimming, go to the pool later in the evening when it’s less busy.
- Bring a streaming device if you want more TV options.
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5
Overall, AmericInn by Wyndham is a comfortable and dependable place to stay. It’s clean, affordable, and has the basics covered. It might not be a luxury hotel, but for a relaxing overnight stay or a short trip, it gets the job done well.
- Sherry (9/5): Overall it was good, I would stay again - The beds were comfortable, Nothing
- David (9/5): A nice place to kick up your feet and rest. - The location was perfect for us. The breakfast was great, they had biscuits and gravy!! You can't wrong with that! The room was very clean, we walked in and said, WOW! Everything was really nice. The cleaning guy smiled at us and said hello. The lady who was working the from desk asked if we wanted any more coffee before we left as well. It was just a very nice place to stay. That my stomach couldn't hold anymore biscuits and gravy! If you didn't catch it, I really like biscuits and gravy. =D

- Jenae (8/5): -
- Carson (5/5): - The location was good and located near many other hotels and places to eat. There's a waffle house that basically shares the parking lot! Breakfast was okay - nothing extensive but they had all the normal things you'd picture in a hotel. The breakfast hours are just very quick (6AM-8AM), so pretty early if you like to sleep in. The air conditioning unit in the room made so much noise we had to unplug it to get it to stop. Even just simply turning it "off" wouldn't keep it off - if it stayed on that setting, it would just constantly cycle, continuously screeching. There was also a constant loud hum coming from somewhere outside the room that we could never identify where it was coming from. Overall not a bad stay outside of the noise issues, but if you're a sensitive sleeper, I'd be wary.
- Julie (9/5): - Clean room. Friendly staff Noise from room above us
- Sarah (1/5): Super disappointed with the room will be going somewhere else next stay in Ames. - Love the pool and hot tub The bath towels are terrible, no towels in the pool area for 3 days straight!!!! The room I was in this time was terrible. 1 bed had a pole sticking out and hit my ankle several times. I had to wrapped a towel around it. The other bed the box spring was broken so the mattress wouldn’t sit on top so you sunk into the box spring. Highly disappointed with this stay that I will go somewhere else from now on. My first stay here was ok which is why I booked there again so I’m sad at how bad this was.
- adamhB8902QD (6/5): There's no internet despite advertising it - Zero Internet, picked this because of the advertised Wi-Fi but when we got there we had zero internet. Breakfast was free but extremely limited and not good.
- MBgolfnut (8/5): Long weekend of Cyclones sports attendance type of stay - Staff overall was very personable and helpful. Didn't try the breakfast beyond the first day. The hot portion was limited to only the biscuits and gravy...no egg dish. Only the 1 ice machine which is near the front desk. Parking seemed plentiful but not sure what it's like if the hotel is packed. Room was clean and ready for my stay. Beds were comfortable. Good water flow in shower with adjustable showerhead. Needed to add an additional night which was done. Check-in and check-out went smoothly except for check-in regarding being able to see if I was still on loyalty program. Worked out a deal with the clerk to come up with an acceptable pricing rate anyway.
- X321PRtammyr (10/5): 100% satisfied and awesome place to stay - Excellent customer service, and amazing place to stay. Very clean, good choices for breakfast. Great pool and hot tub. Clean rooms and excellent staff -employees. 100% satisfied with two rooms we rented for the weekend. Family friendly
- john (10/5): -
- Susan (8/5): - Needed better towels in the rooms and more of them.
- Terry (10/5): -
- Jordyn (4/5): Fine. - Pool/hot tub No clean towels were given during the day, only way received was when we had to ask. Hallways were hot, the ACs weren’t turned on at all in the hallways.
- Jerry (8/5): I stay here every 2-4 months. People & property very nice. -
- Caryl (9/5): - Did not eat breakfast
- Jeffrey (7/5): -
- Cristee (9/5): Friendly staff, clean rooms, hardy breakfast! - Breakfast was awesome!! Lots of variety and the hot food was hot! Mattress was a little hard for my taste but that is a personal preference. All in all, I enjoyed my stay very much!
- Deborah (8/5): -
- Mary (10/5): Very friendly and accommodating people; great location! - Breakfast was good; I was a little slow getting ready and we were 5 minutes late for breakfast, but the wonderful lady provided us breakfast as she was cleaning up everything!😍 Nothing!
- Sharon (7/5): -
- Madeline (10/5): -
- Steven (9/5): - The only negative thing I have to say (and it is very minor) is that at the last minute I checked under the bed as I was leaving and was disappointed to find some trash (a soda bottle and some plastic). That should have been caught by housekeeping.
- Catherine (2/5): Will not stay again. Going back to Hilton! - Nothing Pool not open later in the evening, breakfast could be a little longer, water pressure bad and same with temperature.
- Sharon (8/5): The staff is great the bed was very firm and the price was right. - We checked in late and just missed the breakfast time. The humidity was pretty bad in the hotel but the general humidity outside has been horrible
- Keith (10/5): Room was very clean, we slept great - Ok Fake eggs
- Laurie (4/5): Would not stay there again. - Did not have breakfast. Location was fine. The walk in shower was a nice change. No working ice machine. The iron leaked rusty or brown water, luckily missing my pants and staining them. Would be nice to have a paper listing the tv channels, remote was hard to understand. A pen and pad of paper would be nice to have available.
- Thaleaha (4/5): Disappointed - The hotel was very clean staff was nice. The beds were very uncomfortable. I hurt so bad when I got up in the morning. Also the hot tub was not working which was one of the main things I wanted on the hotel I chose. And I got charged for a $50 security fee and I hate no idea why because the room was clean, everything was there, and nothing was broken when I left.
- Frank (10/5): A nice place to rest after a long journey - I little place with a big heart. The staff is very hard working Nothing
- Christy (3/5): Never going back. - Location was about the only thing Not a hotel we'll stay at again. We booked on booking.com. Checked and was charged extra for 3 of our kid. No pool towels, had to ask for more got 2 towels for 7 people. Same with the room towels there was 3. The TV picture was terrible. Breakfast wasn't good at all, only 2% milk in a gallon. There is renovation supplies everywhere. The TV stand looked like a dog was chewing on it.
- Thomas (8/5): -
- Hackbarth (1/5): Gut-renching disgusting and rude staff! - Not much.. I like the idea of the hot tub in the room but all the drains were slow to drain and it smelled like sewage. The smell! Also I purchased and ate snacks from their vending machine and ended up getting sick. I don’t know if it was the expired snack, stinchy smell in the room, lack of cleaning or possible hidden black mold but I was so sick from something during my stay.
I ended up throwing up and cleaned up my own mess but they still kept my $100 deposit because some puke got on the sheets and a wash rag. The wash rag was what I used to clean up my puke so they didn’t have to but because they could see the ‘stains’ from where I had cleaned up the chunks, they refused to give me my deposit back.
I currently working to escalate this matter with them as I think it is ridiculous their dirty hotel and expired snacks got me sick, I cleaned up the mess to the best of my ability and was still charged $100 for it. The staff thus far has been completely rude and I had to ask over 20 times to escalate to a supervisor. First they said they were out of town and then they said I should be getting a call back today. Refused to give me a number to speak with someone who could help me and I’m yet to receive a call back.
Not that I would have wanted their breakfast given the lack of cleanliness, but also breakfast ends at 8 which is ridiculous for a hotel.. most go until 10.

- jackmN7215NA (10/5): Comfortable lodging! - If you're looking for a reasonably priced, clean comfortable room in a small family run hotel with amenities, this is it. Make sure to get their complimentary breakfast in the morning the biscuits and gravy rock!
- Paula (10/5): -
- john (9/5): -
- Black (10/5): - The hot tub Nothing
- becky (10/5): - Friendliness
- Robert (5/5): disappointing probably would not stay there gain - breakfast was minimal. Everything was put away by 8:15am. Waffle machine broken. we set the heater at 85 to warm up the room. The halls were freezing.
- 920treasures (2/5): No pets- told to wait outside in -° weather. - Company booked room- They called and made sure pets were allowed. Ubered there and was told they do not allow pets. Man at the service desk asked what size. Told him it's my wife and I, with our dog under 20lbs. He then proceeds to tell us they do not allow pets. To make things worse he told us to wait outside in -° weather. Knowing we had to wait for another Uber and find a different hotel. After a few minutes, I told my wife to take the dog and wait in the lobby. It was too cold for them. I told her he could call the cops if he so chose but not to wait outside any longer.
The pictures are from their website, and they state pet friendly multiple times.
- Buck (10/5): Everything was perfect! - Everything! Nothing.
- Karen J (6/5): The location was ok - Breakfast options could have been better and more Breakfast options
- Global44676082781 (8/5): Good Experience - They were nice and helpful when you needed something and it was quite and clean and they were respectful and they had a smile on there face when you went up to ask them a question.
- Katherine (10/5): -
- Sara (5/5): -
- Tiffany (8/5): - We loved the hot tub and everything was very clean. We appreciated the complimentary breakfast.
- Sarah (7/5): They just had replaced staff so hoping next visit will be better. - The room was nice, beds were comfortable, pool/hot tub area was great. No one had cleaned the toilet so there was pee on seat and alllll over underneath. Not sure why but there were only 3 towels so when I asked for more I got questioned when I asked for more was told well we don’t have any clean ones so I can give you some old pool towels.
- Jeremiah (10/5): -
- Jen (10/5): - 😍
- Curt (8/5): - All good but mattress need up grade
- Raegan (1/5): -
- Jim (8/5): - The motel was clean and quiet
- Devon (8/5): - Pool hot tub. Great for my bad back. Everything was fine no problems I'll stay there again ,lower the price for Elders.
- Margaret (8/5): -
- Donna (9/5): - Clean, quiet, comfortable.
- Steven (10/5): - This is an older facility but has been well maintained and remodeled to update both the look and the feel. Adding electrical outlets/USB charging to the bedside clock and on the desk would bring it even more up to date.
The pool and hot tub are wonderful!
- J. (9/5): Clean and fragrance free - I left at 8 am there wasn't much of a grab and go option. I had one small yogurt Needed a bigger bed. I booked a queen but upon arrival I was told I would get 2 beds. Both doubles. I'm 5'10". The pet fee was $50.00. Had i known that I would have shopped around.
- Conrad (2/5): - We had bed bugs… and the service is awful. Will not be coming back.
- Kluetzman (9/5): We really appreciated the bare floor in our pet-friendly room. No carpet. - Average offerings. Decent dry cereal for kids! Biscuits and gravy was good. We would've liked more options on juices. A real danish would also be a bonus.
- deborahpetersc (2/5): Beware!!! - This is the first hotel I’ve ever had to dicker on the price of the room. Then, half asleep, someone tried to get into our room. We called the front desk and it was him that tried to get into our room “to check on something” I’ve never been afraid to stay at a hotel before, but this was terrifying! Then when we asked for a recept, the front desk asked for our email so someone could send it to us. Totally discussed!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Priced low - Poor service - had to request towels daily, cleaned the room only once upon request for 6 days of stays. Key cards didn’t work daily.
- MIKE (10/5): - Good beds and good AC unit
- Bree (8/5): Quick stay - There was a dehumidifier running in the room.
- Maloney (8/5): -
- engblom (9/5): - Nicely updated room. Clean and spacious. 55-60 inch flat screen TV. Nice and quiet. Breakfast cereals tasted "off" but aren't a big priority for me.
- Elizondo (2/5): No bueno - Nada La piscina estaba sucia el agua y el desayuno malo
- Crain (10/5): -
- Rodney (6/5): - There is no internet, no elevator close to the lobby that I saw. There may not be one. I had to carry luggage up the stairs. The phones in the rooms don't work. After 3 days, housekeeping is supposed to service the rooms. My co-worker and I were there for 6 nights. After 5 days, I had to request room service. It had not been done. Unsatisfactory
- Haitham (6/5): - Staff were excellent and helpful. Hotel reception and lobby was basic. Room was clean. I stayed for one night. In the morning there was water dripping from the ceiling of the shower. The bath tub was blocked and water keep rising when having shower. Breakfast was very poor.
- Annie (8/5): - Overall everything was very clean and comfortable! Only thing that wasn’t that great was the pool temperature was on the cold side. But that was minor compared to a nice hot tub, room, and delicious breakfast.
- Syed Rashid Hussain (9/5): - The location is just great. It is close to ISU, as we were there to drop our son to ISU. Staff is very helpful and kind. There is always someone to assist in case of any need. Cathy is a wonderful person, ensured every morning great breakfast. Just one thing that was badly missing is the absence of eggs in the breakfast, though it was offered every other day but the regular offer of such would be nice. Kamini is also a very nice and helping person. It is a recommended place for a family, especially if you want to be close to ISU. Our boys have enjoyed the pool every day, and the Jacuzzi at most. Since we booked the room for 5, we were expecting to have accommodation for 5..however the bedding was just good for 4 people, as there were 2 queen beds. We expected to have at least one sofa cum bed, that should be there for a family of 5.
- Connie (10/5): - Lobby was not air conditioned. Parking lot needs resurfacing.
