Guest Reviews
- 806suzanner (10/5): A treasure - Wish that we would have known about this treasure earlier. Our time on the ranch was one of the best vacations that we have ever taken. These folks wrote the book on hospitality! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our dogs too! The staff, guests, accommodations, history, food, storyteller, guitar player, stargazer, scenery and horses will be close in our hearts and memories for a long time. May you have enjoy the joy that you have shared with us.
May you be blessed with the same joy that you have shared with others.
- Kingelizabethj (10/5): Perfect beginner trail ride - Cute ranch with several cabins available for rent and a cozy dining room. We went just for a ride, and the atmosphere was perfect for a relaxed, beginner trail ride. Trail property and horses were perfect, and our guide was very gracious.
- Twiceis2964 (6/5): Rustic experience with home style cooking - Wonderful people run this rustic ranch. Just spent one night here but had two family style meals which didn’t disappoint. We were there on a Thursday so our group got to experience a real live square dance event with audience participation. Great! Rooms could use some updating so ask before you book to get a better room. Spotty internet at lodge and no TVs FYI.
- DebbieBS44 (6/5): Not what I remember - Visited the ranch dining after being away for many years. Most of the food was mediocre = 3 stars total. Fried chicken was soft - 3 stars, sweet potato casserole over manufactured type flavor - 1 star. Unsweetened ice tea tasted fuzzy and was cloudy, leftover from day before - 0 stars. The ham - 4 stars; green beans - 3 stars, rice - 4 stars, salad - 3 stars, Stuffing was delicious - 5 stars. Pound cake with blackberries - 4 stars.
- julu74 (8/5): Beautiful views and country cooking - Located in a beautiful valley with views of the mountains, the old homestead remains very similar to the way it would have been in years past. Served family-style, the food was delicious and filling. The oatmeal pie was wonderful!
- robertkG4041VZ (10/5): HOSPITALITY AS IT SHOULD BE - Pisgah View Ranch was an extraordinary setting for our multi-generational family. The location is magnificent, quiet and safe for un-tethered kids. There are on site activities for all- horse back riding, stocked pond fishing, hiking. Asheville is a close scenic drive. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful - for example delaying dinner until part of our group could get back after river rafting due to highway construction. They make you feel like part of a family and not a corporate client.
- Kristin (10/5): - Such a cool place to stay. 15 minutes off the Blue Ridge Parkway with beautiful Mountain views from the front porch of my cabin. Each cabin has two rooms but if you’re just renting one, they won’t put strangers next door...so you have the place to yourself. Staff was so nice. I didn’t eat meals there but found it very charming that they serve family style and even ring a bell when it’s time to eat. The whole stay was like taking a step back in time in the best way. I’ll definitely be back.
- travlinman42 (10/5): Fantastic Family Vacation Choise - We returned this summer for another great family get together week after our initial wonderful experience last year. This year we had 16 family including 8 children ranging from 1 - 16 years old and a family of friends with 4 more. Grandma and Grandpa stayed in the wonderful A-Frame cottage which served as the hospitality center during the week and the evening gathering place for the requisite gin rummy games. Everyone else were in the own family cottages.
We cannot say enough about this beautiful spot nestled in the valley under Mt. Pisgah. The daily horseback riding for the children and some adults is a clear highlight of the week but the beautifully maintained swimming pool, the great little fishing pond, the wide open playing field and the constantly in use shuffleboard courts keep everyone busy all day long. Evenings include story telling by local speakers, smores around the campfire, and the Thursday evening square dance in the barn with locals from all around, a great band and the fantastic Pisgah Valley cloggers.
Of course the best part of all, especially for the moms, is the great family style meals served three times a day. The food is lovingly prepared and plentiful and is served by the great staff of the dining room - such a wonderful experience.
If you are looking for a great casual family vacation or reunion spot you won't find a better choice or nicer people.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - You could see Mt. Pisgah fro the bed! Staff was very friendly and the food was outstanding!!
- Susanrn4kids (10/5): Horseback riding - We took a one hour horseback ride here and it was exactly what we wanted. The horses were lovely the guides were great company and the scenery was beautiful! The ranch is so peaceful! We plan to stay here and take advantage of the fishing next time we come to Asheville!
- IKeepHimYoung (10/5): A wonderful Get Away! - We are a group of friends from various parts of the states who get together twice a year. We rented 2 cabins for 3 nights and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice of location! There is a gorgeous view of Mt. Pisgah no matter where you are on the ranch. You are also close to Asheville and the BlueRidge Parkway! The owners and all staff are so friendly and accommodating. The meals are served family style and were plentiful and delicious! We stayed in The Cardinal cabin which is perfect for couples! It has 3 bedrooms with each room having its own private bath and a large living room that is shared. We had a microwave and mini fridge in our cabin and tissues, bar soap, shampoo and conditioner was supplied. The bath towels were so soft and fluffy and our water pressure was superb! Our cabin was very clean and housekeeping was in daily. Each night there was entertainment, and our favorite was professional storyteller Barbara Freeman from Asheville! It was a very fun evening full of laughter, while sitting around next to the cozy fire place in the parlor! I also wanted to note that my husband and I both have Verizon cell service and an Android and Apple phone and we got 3 and 4 G service throughout our stay. I'm sure this varies, but that was our experience. We are going back to the ranch this summer and can't wait to take advantage of the horseback riding, swimming, fishing, and also just relaxing! See you in July PVR, and thank you for your wonderful hospitality!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - When you stay here, you feel like part of the family... wonderful staff and the perfect peaceful setting. We are returning visitors as was everyone else staying there... you always want to go back!! :)
- Jane (8/5): - This is a unique property where you literally feel like you have been transported back in time! Loved it!
Food was amazing and the people who work there could not have been nicer! We were treated to activities at night and coffee, tea and snacks all day.
Definitely will return!
- Travel111531 (10/5): Awesome surprise! - We were looking for a place to stay one night on our trip and my brother found this. I was unsure how it was going to be and we were very pleasantly surprised. The ranch house is lovely and welcoming. Our little cabin was comfortable and cozy with our fireplace. The staff was wonderful, friendly and accommodating. Family style dinner was delicious. Horseback riding was very nice. Fun activities nightly.
- Prasad (8/5): PVR - Pisgah View Ranch beautiful and peaceful location. Friendly and helpful staff. I’ll stay there again
- Verified traveler (6/5): Pisgah Ranch - The ranch itself was located in an amazing setting. The cabins were very quaint. The issue was not having an evening/late staff to service you if were late arriving. Had NO idea where to go, what cabin we were given...nothing.
- Nice (6/5): - Very nice. Alot of hiking u can do. People were nice
- Oswaldo (10/5): In love for this place! - Great staff, wonderful place! Hope to visit again!
- Stephanie J (10/5): Slice of heaven - We were on our honeymoon and absolutely loved the ranch!! A slice of heaven waking up in the morning and hearing the nature all around and a beautiful sunrise. Breakfast was nothing short of amazing!! They went above and beyond to make sure we were cared for. Can’t wait to come back!! 😊❤️
- Kimberly (8/5): Relax and Recharge - Family friendly ranch with tons to do and excellent country style meals. Beautiful property in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains
- Peter (10/5): Just go there - Simply amazing, very tranquil, great food, great views and lovely staff!
So happy that I found this gem, will definitely come back if I'm in NC again.
- Kellie (10/5): - Such a peaceful retreat for us. If you are expecting amusement park entertainment stay away. This is a place to come and remember what it was like to play without electronics and reconnect with your family.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful place! Friendly staff! Enjoyed our time on the ranch! Hiking nearby & close to Asheville! Will stay again😊
- Lydia (10/5): - Loved it! We knew it was not "fancy", so our expectations were aligned. It was such a special, family retreat for us-- the horses were well-trained and loved. The staff was friendly, easy going and helpful. Great time!
- rickr647 (10/5): Wonderful Place for a Quiet Getaway! - Our family held a family reunion (30-35 of us) at Pisgah View Ranch in June 2018 and it was absolutely the best location we’ve selected in many years. It was quiet, has lots of early American history on the property, as well as a working horse stable (and horse back riding). It is family owned and the service and care we received was incredible. Fishing and a game room for the children kept them entertained while the adults reminisced about the good ole days. Great for a weekend or a week. Highly recommended!
- 995millied (8/5): Family ride - Good website. I picked this outfit because they were able to accommodate my party of ten (ages 10-82). Made reservations over the phone and they were very friendly and sent me info and waivers through email
Immediately.
They called to confirm the day before. You have to be onsite 45 minutes prior to your ride time, but four in our party could not make it at the last minute. The ranch graciously added one of our riders to the first group so we could all ride together. Price was reasonable for the hour ride ($40 pp). One hour was enough for mostly first time riders. We had limited trails to access due to mountain lion activity (!).
We would recommend.
- NJSwede31 (10/5): Very Happy With Our Stay - This was our first visit to a ranch. We drove from Pennsylvania and were late check-ins and Cindy waited up for us to make sure we settled in well. We had a two person stone cabin built in 1941. It was quaint (we were staying on a ranch, after all) and clean. We were surprised it had an air conditioner but only needed to open the windows at night for cool air. The bell rang at 7:50 & 8:00 AM for breakfast which was abundant and good! The ranch is spacious and peaceful with a wonderful view of the mountains. All who work here are friendly and accommodating. After a night of rain, we still went horseback riding with Ashley avoiding the slippery trails and opting for fields. Ashley made the experience safe and fun. The pool was available and clean. We could see the fish in the catch-and-release lake. The price for our stay, horseback riding and meals included was extremely reasonable. The ranch is also a short drive to Mt. Pisgah and the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Asheville. Wonderful people. Wonderful stay. We will stay here again and bring friends next time.
- Lily_Belle_Gregory (10/5): I love the view and the great service! - When I went to the Pisgah view ranch for the first time i loved it! then for the second time with my cousins. the second time was my favorite because we road horses A LOT! twice a day! We had a great time! We had loads of fun staying at this beatuful resort!
- johnpB5228DD (10/5): Fantastic service in a beautiful and serene setting - Pisgah View Ranch is truly a special place. From the moment you pull off the main road onto the property you begin to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings. With stunning views of Mt. Pisgah from the main lodge, the pool, and the other amenities the ranch takes advantage of a great backdrop. Cindy, Sharon and the entire staff could not be more welcoming, warm, and friendly to make guests feel at home. The food is fantastic, not only are the family style portions far more than a group would ever need but the quality is unmatched. The menu redefines country cooking and would challenge some of the nicer restaurants in nearby Asheville. The cabins are modest and simple but well maintained and perfect for families with young kids. The horseback riding is excellent with a staff that are great with kids. The activities at night include storytelling, star gazing, campfires, and dancing and were the highlights of our stay. All in all, Pisgah View Ranch is a wonderful place to visit, unwind, and relax in a beautiful setting among the Blue Ridge Mountains.
- Jack-from-Waxhaw (10/5): Friendly beyond belief. All inclusive. Rustic - My favorite person and I on a whim decided to stay here a couple days. I wish we had been able to stay longer. The staff is beyond friendly! I felt as if every person working there was the owner. The cabins are rustic but clean. Your front porch view is a million dollar one. If you choose to eat there it's best if you are a big eater and left your diet at home. The portions are huge! Call them direct to book as some sites said nothing left when in fact there were many many available. This place has everything including gentle horses.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great and peaceful place - This place is amazing. The owner and all the staff were very friendly. Highly recommended
- ALEENE (10/5): BEST DUDE RANCH EAST OF MISSISSIPPI!!! - WE ARE ANNUAL VACATIONERS TO THIS CENTURIES OLD RANCH IN THE PISGAH NATIONAL FOREST. OVER 2,000 ACRES OF TRAILS, SCENIC BEAUTY, HORSEBACK RIDING PLUS THE BEST FARM-TO-TABLE THREE MEALS PER DAY FAMILY STYLE FOOD AVAILABLE IN United States. THE CABINS ARE RUSTIC, YET, VERY COMFORTABLE WITHOUT TV, PHONES OR WIFI. THE STAFF IS BEYOND COMPARE TO ACCOMMODATE YOUR EVERY COMFORT. RATHER YOU ARE A COUPLE ON A WEEKEND GET-AWAY OR A FAMILY REUNION OR CLASS REUNION, PISGAH VIEW RANCH IS THE PLACE. WITHIN DRIVING DISTANCE TO ALL THE WESTERN North Carolina SIGHTS & ENTERTAINMENT.
- Macy (10/5): Quaint country cottage - We enjoyed our second time staying a the ranch. The weather was perfect, the ranch has lots of different activities, and breakfast was incredible! Highly recommend for a place to truely disconnect from the world!
- larryg425 (10/5): We all had the best dinner-there wasn’t anything we didn’t like - This was our first visit to this Ranch. We just came for dinner, which was a fabulous tasting buffet of either barbecue or chicken, slaw, beans, fries, cornbread, corn on the cob and blackberry cobbler for desert. It was all good. Will definitely go back.
- Stephen (10/5): - Such a sweet experience! No TV, no phone, minimal cell phone signal, but the best of the unexpected! Great food served family style and new found friends. Room to breath and play. We'll be back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fun family getaway - Our family had a great time at Pisgah Ciew Ranch. We enjoyed the horseback riding, hiking and games at the property. The family style meals were delicious and plentiful. Staff was courteous and welcoming.
- Thomas (4/5): - A guest group from Miami dominated the TV room and dining area and other activities. Sooo rude!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cozy, lots of kid activities - Lots of fun. The kids loved riding horses although a little overpriced I think. Food was good, but again high. Room rate was ok but the cabin was very old, stale smell, mattresses were old and no heat! Good walking trails, pond fishing and games for kids.
- Emmy (10/5): A Haven During a Stressful Time - Went over the eclipse weekend and after fighting crowds and traffic, it was like driving into a paradise- quiet, peaceful, welcoming staff, EXCELLENT food. It's not luxurious, but if you appreciate beautiful mountain views and a slower pace this is for you. There's every activity you can imagine; what we appreciated the most was the bonfire that evening and a story-teller, but more than enough to keep kids busy and tired.
- rockinrobi1860 (10/5): Family Reunion for 26 people all ages from 2yrs to 81 yrs. - We rented the A-Frame, Cardnial, Whipporwill & Hickory cabins all were excellent & clean accommodating different family sizes. We stayed 2 nights & 3 days. When they tell you it is a magical place it truly is my family had a wonderful time. Cindy & the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Everything we requested was not a problem. Trust me satisfying 26 people is not easy. Excellent!!!!!!!!!! Service. The food was family style some nights & buffet some nights. The breakfast to die for family style but all meals were great and plentiful I am sure I gained weight. Swimming, games ,hiking, fishing, beautiful surroundings , horseback riding with the greatest wranglers ever. Nightly entertainment. If you want to unwind this is the place or reconnect with your family. I wanted to stay but had to come back to reality. Cindy tell your staff Thanks for making our weekend great & Thanks for sharing your family ranch!!
- SWright-Barron (10/5): Like Yesteryear - We have been going to PVR since 1970. Have many wonderful memories. For a short time the restaurant was closed, but it has reopened. Not served family style, but it is all you can eat. We had bar-b-q with all the fixings and blackberry cobbler. Great location for family reunions, retreats, weddings, or just a pleasant getaway for a day or however long you need to escape. Make a reservation. Enjoy square dancing on special evenings.
- Mary (10/5): Perfection in the mountains - Wonderfully relaxing and friendly people with excellent meals.
- carol (8/5): Not really a hotel - This is a retreat center with lots of activities. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The rooms are cabins with limited amenities. The TV and internet are in the main house not in cabins. Next time we will stay longer and enjoy all they have to offer. The breakfast, that was extra, was great.
- Bryan (6/5): Interesting Concept, Execution Needs Improvement - Love the idea, family style dining is nice, but our cabin was quite outdated, our friends' cabin was very musty, both felt unclean. Staff was extremely nice.
- Gardenwiz (10/5): Check in and never leave! - This was our second stay at Pisgah View Ranch and it was once again awesome! We arrived on Friday afternoon and as soon as we turned in the driveway we felt our stress melt away. This is honestly one of the most relaxing places we have stayed. We had talked about doing some sight seeing but stayed at the ranch the whole weekend. The family style meals are delicious and we loved visiting with the other guests. The evening activities at the campfire were fun and relaxing. Ranger Randy's nature hike was a fun ending to our day as was the storyteller. Cindy, her family and staff do a wonderful job accommodating your needs. The grounds are beautiful and the cabins clean and comfy. This is a great place to take the kids. They can run free with no worries. There are plenty of games and activities to keep them busy and the pool is great. We are already planning a return trip this summer. Don't pass this place up. It is a jewel of the mountains!
- randy (10/5): Nice Place! - The accommodations are adequate, nothing more. That is part of the charm of this peaceful place. The horse riding was wonderful. We caught fish at the pond with the house equipment, we played ping pong, and foosball, In the evening we had a professional story teller with a campfire. One night, SMORES. If the weather had cooperated, we would have had star gazing one night. The home cooked food was fabulous. Friendly folks that have been doing this a long, long time. If you are looking for the Hyatt, this is NOT the place. If you want to relax and unwind in a family friendly environment, this is YOUR place.
- Jeanette (8/5): Just a bit disappointed. - For view and escape it was excellent. The breakfast was also excellent but pricy. The room was too basic for my taste. A few amenities would have helped (like hair dryer and shampoo.) I would have appreciated a coffee pot and small fridge in room. The hours that the main house served food did not fit with our schedule or our budget. Also, while we were there the gift shop was not open nor was the pool or museum. We never saw horses as the stable was posted "staff only" even though we were encouraged to buy treats to hand feed the horses. The staff was very friendly and we met fun interesting people there.
- David Byrd (4/5): be careful!!! - Horrible money situation. We see 3 pending charges all for the same night!!! the people are nice, but be careful and watch your account. the game room is laughable, with broke pool sticks. the views are breath-taking. cabins are clean, but clearly dated. the meal was ok, but nit worth the price..stay away from cornbread (sandpaper). hotels.com did not ask us if we wanted to be charged by the ranch, they just allowed it...and now won't help us free our account of pending overages.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Peacefull - A place to leave everything behind and relax. Beautiful views. The food was great and the staff friendly.
- glenn c. (4/5): Cabin - Not what I expected. Somewhat over-priced.
- Kathleen (10/5): Wonderful relaxing mountain vacation respite - Very friendly & helpful staff. The family style meals were EXCELLENT--YUM!!
- Valerie (8/5): It's like going to camp with your family. - Didn't realize when I booked the cabin, but there is no tv, radio, or wifi in the cabins (you have to go to the main house for those things). My 18 and 24 year old daughters noticed immediately. I was worried about this at first, but it turned out to be a great thing. The first night we stayed up to midnight talking and laughing. As the days progressed we were so tired from hiking, sight seeing, and horseback riding that we were asleep earlier each night.
The cabin was quite rustic, but clean and comfortable. All of the staff from the moment we checked in, to the cleaning staff, the servers in the dining room, and the horseback riding guide were very friendly and helpful.
Only three miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. We loved driving around the area. Being October, everyday was more beautiful than the one before. The towns of Candler and Asheville were not too far to drive for shopping or meals when away from the Ranch.
Meals were delicious. You had to give notice of what meals you were going to be there for, but they were very flexible if you wanted to change things. We typically shared a table with another family or two. Every evening at 7 pm there is some sort of entertainment. Things like stargazing and looking at planets through a telescope, dog tricks, square dancing, grown-up story telling, etc.
Pisgah View Ranch has dog friendly cabins available.
I have already recommended Pisgah View Ranch to friends and will definitely be staying there again!
- Andrew (10/5): - Great ranch for peace and quiet. Something to do every night. LOVED the star gazing!!
We came late in the season and would love to see how the ranch operates in full swing.
Staff was very friendly and very willing to help with any questions about the area . Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is a homecooked familystyle meal that was very good. Cabins are old but cozy. Bathroom was a decent size and the shower was quite powerful. I highly recommend this resort.
- Susan (8/5): Great getaway - Great place to get away from it all. Close to Asheville and Black Mountain for all there is to do around these places. It's a step back in time and quite refreshing. Nothing fancy, but well kept.
Had breakfast and didn't need to eat much the remainder of the day!!! It was fantastic!!
Bruce, a local treasure, serenaded us and regaled us with great stories for about 2 hours on the screen porch of the main house.
Was a great experience overall.
- Manami (10/5): Mountain view and relaxing time with nature - It was fantastic. We had a great time. We did some hiking and horseback riding. They also had story telling night, camp fire etc...
Many families with kids were there for summer vacation.
It was definitely fun.
They also have homemaid meals with family serving style. We had fun to chat other visitors.
Staffs were very friendly and had interesting life stories with them.
Room was very clean and comfortable, the mountain view was very nice.
- Robert (8/5): Horseback Riding - Fun family get away in historic cabin.
- Emily (10/5): Beautiful country ranch near Asheville - My husband and I came here and stayed for two nights after our wedding and stayed in the honeymoon cabin. We wanted something more country and it was perfect. We stepped out of the truck and it the city stress just melted away. If you're looking for something fancy then this may be not the place for you. But if you're looking for a romantic country getaway then this is perfect. We weren't able to participate in the activities the ranch had going on (horseback riding, the gameroom, the meals, etc.), but we did walk around the grounds (they're beautiful). Later, when we went to the ranch house to use the wifi, the owner not only let us come in to use it, but also got us some hot chocolate, some delicious left-over chicken from lunch, and a slice of heavenly key lime pie. This being the first time meeting her, she was so nice and accommodating! The next morning we went to breakfast with another guest (not as awkward as you might think), and my husband STILL talks about how delicious it was. There was so much home cooked food! And it was all excellent food, we ate a little of everything. My husband still dreams about those pancakes. And I had peace of mind knowing that the food was not processed but whipped up in their kitchens. My husband and I want to come back again and stay longer to do more. It was beautiful, romantic and relaxing. I highly recommend the Pisgah View Ranch.
- Heather (8/5): Ok, not great - No cell phone service, which was a huge problem for meeting up with other family members. We didn't know this beforehand.
Also, cabin cute but not private. Very close to each other.
- Becky (10/5): Let's unplug - The cabins were what you'd expect, very clean cabins. No TV no Internet in the rooms but available in the main house. Beautiful scenery, excellent, friendly staff, wonderful food. Something to do every evening but we had a baby. There is a nice pool, horse back riding, fishing, etc. Wished we had brought board games - next time. Wished we could stay longer.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Had a fabulous stay. Everything was great. Beautiful views, food was tasty and plentiful, staff was accommodating and friendy. Only thing was the bathroom needed a bit of updating/repair, but it's a rustic-style place, and it was still functional. Thank you for the hospitality!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Unexpected wonderful experience - Staying at Pisgah View Ranch was a delightful surprise. The meals in the dining room were delicious, we were entertained by a professional storyteller and a musician, went on a nature hike with a guide, and thoroughly enjoyed our short time there. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We hope to return some day.
- Martin (10/5): Fantastic ranch stay - A total different accommodation, from our arrival this was a fantastic experience, set meals with other guests which makes for a very interesting dinner and breakfast !
Rooms are individual cottages with no TV or hair dryer, a very unique overnight stay, the story teller as the evening entertainment was truly engaging, highly recommended
- davidl (6/5): Ranch - Nice
- Verified traveler (2/5): should've just gone camping - For a target market. It's a farm/ranch which is perfect for getting away from anything requiring cell or internet service, decent amount of activities on site and easy access to surrounding hiking/biking/rafting.
Staff aren't exactly easy to locate when you're there. Pre-arrival communication was so/so.
If they charged half the rate they do, maybe I could see it being reasonable. But I've stayed in downtown Asheville at a really nice hotel for similar prices (excepting the last of sept/early oct blue ridge parkway annual bonanza) and also had close proximity to the same hiking/rafting/etc and easier access to fantastic restaurants. All things considered, I'd have rather just gone camping.
- Not Provided (10/5): Great family location in the woods - We should have stayed longer. This was one of my favorite stays in a long time. The staff was great, the location was great, and the food was awesome.
- Rebecca (8/5): Too short......but worth it - It was a great place to get away from the fast pace of Atlanta. I love the fact that so many people we met there have been coming for years. It is a family tradition. The people were so nice and I wish we had more time.
