Guest Reviews
- Diana (10/5): - We stayed at this beautiful property 10 years ago and wanted to come back as we couldnt forget the charm and the beauty of this beautiful bed and breakfast. The owners, Barb and Fred are such a cute couple. They provided a wonderful breakfast with meats, cheese, pastries and more. Plus the coffee was excellent. They also have 2 very cute dogs, Missy and Fluffy that will greet you when you arrive. Barb gave us excellent recommendations on things to do and great places to eat. We are so thankful that we had the chance to stay here again. We love this place! A++++

- Autumn (10/5): - Had a great experience. Barbara and Fred are great people.
- Andrew (10/5): - Fred and Barbara were excellent hosts. Very quiet and comfortable. Continental breakfast was filling. Would definitely recommend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pros and cons - Gorgeous views of the lake. Very comfortable bed and bedding. Spacious room.
Unique home and friendly hosts. Cons: dated decor and furnishings, TV cable and Roku didn’t work, weak wi-fi, stained carpet, too many large pieces of furniture in one room.
- Nicole (10/5): - It was a good place to stay at.
- James (8/5): Warm, friendly, and hospitable. - The hosts were extremely friendly and accommodated. The dogs were also very friendly. The Tuscany room is very unusual, well designed. Good location for accessing things in Lake Tahoe. Wonderful view from the porch and kitchen, will you enjoy a nice Continental breakfast, well done.
- Lacey (10/5): - Such an architecturally interesting property, beautiful timber and rock throughout the place. It was such a cool experience to see such a one-of-a-kind place.
The hosts were lovely and the breakfast was delicious! Also, they have two very cute dogs on site which was an added bonus :)
- Erin (6/5): - The views are awesome and the rooms are unique. The B&B is run by an older couple, the man is sweet with dimensia and the woman is overwhelmed. There are massive wrap around decks but they aren't really furnished to hang out on. The view from the windows are spectacular but she got mad at me when I was on the deck to see the stars. Its centrally located but you still have to drive everywhere. Lastly, I recommend to bring the smallest vehicle possible b/c parking is limited.
- denise (6/5): - The house had amazing views. I expected a hot breakfast but it was just a continental breakfast. The house was very cool had lots of stuff to look at and the cutest dogs. The hosts were very nice as well
- Ojas (10/5): - Great host. Would recommend to my friends. They have 2 cute dogs. View of Lake Tahoe from the breakfast area.
- Carla (10/5): - This was a wonderful experience!
- Cecilia (10/5): - Unique furniture and location! I absolutely LOVE the architecture of the property and the decorations accumulated by the host. They’re also wonderful people full of fascinating stories, not to mention the breakfast is delicious! You get soo many amenities and i’m surprised we were able to find something soo great for the price!
- Keith (10/5): We Hope and Plan to Stay Again! - We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed visiting with the hosts, they were delightful. The views were beautiful. The mattress was so comfortable. The home exceeded our expectations.
- Christopher (10/5): - Nice folks and fun for the holidays
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was amazing! The house was beautiful and custom made and the hosts were friendly. Staying for Christmas holiday is a special treat as the entire house was decorated. Wonderful location, beautiful.
- Siakzar (10/5): - Amazing view, wonderful host and great breakfast
- Sharon (8/5): - Very nice people
- Renee (10/5): - We enjoyed our visit. The hosts were friendly and helpful and we will definitely return there!
- Verified traveler (6/5): BNB - The room was cute. Could use a little detailed cleaning: dust lights, shampoo or remove old rugs, cover open electrical outlets. Otherwise very cute.
- John (10/5): - Just right!
- Edward (10/5): - Frederick and Barbara were great hosts, who work very hard. Their life stories are great, and their house is amazing! If you like lots of eclectic furnishings and old European charm you'll love this place (we certainly did). Frederick was even gracious enough to let us keep our mountain bikes in the garage overnight. This place isn't for everyone, but for those who want a truly unique experience you may really like it here.
- Trent (10/5): - It had a beautiful view of the lake and the people that run the Bed & Breakfast are very nice and helpful with anything you should need. Highly recommended because it is a unique and wonderful experience!
- Chyanne (10/5): - Absolute best experience. If you want to experience Tahoe like a local, this is the place to do it.
- Kenneth (6/5): - The property had gorgeous views of the lake. The weather was perfect.
- Devdipta (4/5): - Great views on the property but overall a poor experience! The host Fred was a bit rude when we asked that the chairs had gathered dust and there were insects inside the room. The family room had a den where the sheets looked like they hadn’t been cleaned for ages. Fred’s wife Barbara was warm but we had constantly be worried of Fred’s temper.
On reaching breakfast at 930 he said “Good Afternoon! It was too late” although breakfast timings were until 1030, we were then served breakfast though. He constantly made jibes against my parents (who were traveling from India) that was plain racist and inconsiderate.
The two dogs were cute, and Barbara (hostess) was very kind on the positive.
Would not recommend
- Zaira (8/5): - We truly enjoyed our house hosts Barbara, Fred and their pups! We had the downstairs 2 rooms so we had a private entrance, balcony and bathroom. Balcony could use a cleaning but otherwise the view was beautiful! The shower is a step down into so be careful if you have limited mobility. The bed and couch are extra soft. The continental breakfast was great, danish breads, croissants, english muffins, hard boiled eggs, coffee and juice. Breakfast on the patio is highly recommended! It isnt walking distance to the lake but up a bit on the mountain. There was a microwave and fridge in the room.
- Scott (10/5): - Fred and Barbara are amazing hosts. You can’t beat the view. Fred thanks again for waking up early to through the coffee on before our departure.
- Scott (10/5): Tahoe where eagles fly - Fred and Barbara are amazing hosts. You can’t beat the view. Fred thanks again for waking up early to throw the coffee on before our departure.
- Anthony J (8/5): - The place is a unique 3 story Craftsman Style house with a beautiful view of the lake. We had a cheerful reception from two fluffy dogs and our host Fredrick who helped us with our luggage to the room. It came with a Kitchen that had all the appliances for a longer stay, including a washer and dryer. They provided a Continental Breakfast with a good selection of meats, cheeses, breads and pastries. Our host Barbra was helpful with sharing her tips on cooking and places to go in the area.
- Tom (10/5): - The view of lake Tahoe is incredible
- Mark (10/5): - Wonderful hosts!
- Quang (10/5): - It was a valuable experience and a great stay at Barbara and Fred's house. They are amazing hosts and the house has a great view of lake Tahoe.
- Michele (10/5): - Wonderful hosts, beautiful views, nice breakfast, everything we could ask for!
- Ryan (4/5): - The sink was ready to fall off the wall and the tub was unclean. I was kept awake by walking and what sounded like furniture moving. I was then woken up at 8am by loud music.
- Randall (10/5): - The view of this property is impressive. The hosts are a couple of elders with a great disposition to make your stay a pleasant one.
- Jeremy M. (10/5): - The hospitality from Fred & Barbara was comforting & outstanding. It felt as if we were family. Their fur-babies, playful Fluffy & adorable Missy, were a joy. The location was quiet & relaxing, yet close to anything you may desire to do. The view from their deck was astonishing! Fred, Barbara & their fur-babies facilitated a memorable stay in Lake Tahoe, & we would be honored to recommend their Bed & Breakfast
- Ty (10/5): - Fred and Barbara are sweet hosts! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will rebook the next time we visit the area. This is an excellent B&B if you want breathtaking views and the ability to unplug.
- Steve F (10/5): - Beautiful home overlooking Lake Tahoe
The host and hostess are immigrants from Germany and are quite pleasant and interesting
- LeAna (10/5): - This property has been owned by the couple since the 70's. The property is unique, quiet, and beautiful. The property is a labor of love, and Frederick built and designed most of it himself!
Although my husband and i are not big breakfast eaters, both Frederick and Barbara made sure we we're comfortable and invited us for their homemade breakfast they provided daily.
Our bed was super cozy and the veiw of South Tahoe was amazing! We got to enjoy a quiet neighborhood but we were only a couple miles from shopping, food, casinos, and hiking. The parking at the property was the easiest by far of all parking in Tahoe area.
Frederick and Barbara are awesome hosts and the home they share with the public is just incredible, a real treasure.
- PAMELA Sue (6/5): - The owners were very nice, check-in and parking was easy, however the entire place, inside and out, is in need of some drastic TLC. Our room did not have a workable door, it did not close correctly and had no door knob or lock, we barricaded ourselves in at night. We were told the door was "under construction". We were never offered another room or discount for this inconvenience. When questioned about another available room Frederick told us they had one but someone booked it. I then expressed to him that I was very uncomfortable with the situation, but I was reassured no one would steal me, not the point...I was, however, provided a fan when I said the room was very hot, even though he said I was in the coolest room of the house (dungeon/wine cellar). There must have been some water damage under the floor of the hall leading to our room, the 2' x 5' x 3' hole in the floor was partially covered by various pieces of wood and cabinet doors, no hazard there I guess. The toilet seat needed to be replaced and there was way too much useless furniture in the room, clutter but no chairs to sit in. The breakfast offered was mediocre at best, more of a continental breakfast, so we decided to eat out each morning. I will give them 5 stars for the view, it was spectacular, and 5 stars for the coffee, as long as you could find a clean cup and spoon to use. Really wasn't to my liking, I was not comfortable staying there, and would not recommend.
- Purvi (10/5): - Fredrick and Barbara are wonderful host. They made feel at home. The view from our family suite was excellent.
Their house is so beautiful ad well decorated. We are surely coming back
- Raymond (10/5): On top of the world - Very friendly hostess, awesome view’s and great location
- Ariel (10/5): - The hosts were very welcoming
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wouldn't want to stay anywhere else! - Fred and Barbara went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Such kind hosts! The house is beautiful, and the location is quiet and peaceful, far above all the hustle and bustle in the town below. The sunsets on our private balcony were lovely.
- Harvey (8/5): - This is a privately owned home operating as a Bed & Breakfast property over-looking Lake Tahoe. The views are amazing. This is for travelers who don't mind sharing with strangers. The Owners are always present and very helpful. We stayed in a basement room that was well decorated as a medieval castle room, but a bit crowded. Caution advised in the road to the property, mountain road, and vey narrow. Good choice for B&B travelers.
- Barbara (10/5): - The view was awesome. A heartier breakfast would have made this better. No AC. The owners were wonderful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The couple who own this property treated me like a long lost son. I had a wonderful time and highly recommend this unique and amazing place. The views of Lake Tahoe from the wrap around deck are unbelievable!
- Barbara (10/5): - Barbara and Fred were amazing the house is beautiful and the patio watching the sunset was spectacular
- Marilyn (10/5): - Beautiful
- Richard (10/5): - The view of Lake Tahoe from the deck was breathtaking!! Our lake view room was warm and cozy with an abundance of amenities. Our hosts Barbara and Fred were so generous of their time and hospitality and most accommodating of our requests. We will stay there again on our next getaway!
- Peggy (10/5): - The rooms and home is beautiful, and the hosts are very nice! There are gorgeous views of the lake from several decks and some of the rooms, and the continental breakfast was nice. I would encourage an addition of perhaps some instant oatmeal and some yogurt with some granola or muesli, with some fruit to add to it, and then you could then have a little less pastries if you would like.
It would be really fun if you could turn the extra room you have into a game room and have a pool table there. Then we could spend some time socializing and playing pool there. It’s so beautiful seeing the lake, and would be fun to do there. Such a wonderful place to stay. We will definitely be back!
- Dean (8/5): - Amazing wood work and views of lake tahoe. Friendly hosts. Continental breakfast was good. Couple of things that seemed a bit odd. 1. Hostesses brought up people stealing from them a kot then mention sugar container went missing while we were there. 2. We were asked what type of tires we had on truck in the morning there was a puncture hole in tire but tire was not flat but leaking at a fast rate that was odd.
- Ronald (10/5): Excellent anniversary trip - Super amazing trip and stay. The place and the view was incredible. The hosts Barbera and Fred are amazing hosts and amazing people, super friendly and down to earth. Will definitely be back soon, probably around summer time
- Kathryn (10/5): - On a wish list of what I wanted in my VERY RARE vacation, it was short of “rustic” furniture and a fireplace. The pictures of the property were intriguing, so I made the choice to go. The property did not fail my curiosity, but in fact, every inch was a fascinating story to be told. If you are tired of cracker box structures, then enjoy this multilevel, SECURE, beautiful stay with great hosts. If you expect pristine brass and glass, then go somewhere else, but if a clean, quaint, antique furniture filled and sumptuous continental breakfasts provided appeal, then this is your place. It is located ABOVE Zephyr Cove and just down the street, Hwy 50, from a shopping Center, but because it is located ATOP the lookout ridge, you might have the convenience of the shopping Center, downtown populace, but the property is without all of the congestion of cars and people. The view is spectacular and the hosts are genuine. While we were there to relax, there were skiers and couples and others in our little world with us. WARNING….unless you ask for ground level, you need to know that there are short stair wells and three step landings, so be sure to book ground floor rooms if mobility is an issue. Parking is secure and within 20 feet of the ground floor door.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Will return! - We had an amazing stay at this B&B! We felt right at home from the moment we arrived, and the owners went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible.
- Charles (10/5): - The owners are such sweet people.
- Ulises (10/5): - Excelent place to stay, both host were great . Responded very quickly, and was very accommodating to our needs/requests. Check-in instructions were super detailed and helpful.
The apartment was very clean and well stocked. We could not have asked for a better location. Overall a wonderful place; we would stay here again easily!
- Jeanette (10/5): - Wonderful, beautiful setting and beautiful view. Barbara and Fred were so welcoming but not at all intrusive. We would certainly return if visiting Tahoe ever again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property was exceptional to behold, our room was beautifully appointed. Lovely décor, super comfortable bed, linens, pillows, and nicely furnished.
It was a pleasure to spend time with the owners, and to learn about them and the history of the property. We will definitely return
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Barbara and Fred were so welcoming and such gracious hosts. The views from the balcony are wonderful, especially to catch the sunset over the mountains.
- Hubert (10/5): great view, great friendly hosts - We had a really good time. We stayed 5 days and felt welcome the entire time. The views from the room and decks are amazing. We enjoyed the interactions with the hosts. The room was cozy and we even had a bathtub with views of the lake.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was such a great property and experience! Fred and Barbara were both amazing hosts and their B&B was beautiful! There was not a bad view to be seen from their house and it was so peaceful. We were thankful to have quiet after seeing some of the resorts along the lake.
Parking is onsite and all the amenities are offered. They provided a lovely continental breakfast in the morning and Fred and Barbara were so interesting and engaging to talk with.
We will definitely be back!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Didn't like the Trump flag
- Dennis (8/5): What a view - We had an excellent time and enjoyed the company of the owners
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Property is majestic!!! The view spectacular! The home is an engineering marvel! Fred and Barbara are wonderful@
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location and the view from the property was outstanding. The condition, orderliness and cleanliness of the property was marginal. The hosts were eagerly willing to engage in conversation and we found them quite charming.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing home, views and couple who run the B&B. They make you feel comfortable and “home”!!! We will be returning😁
- Michael (8/5): May 2021 - Fredrich & Barbara are wonderful hosts. They make you feel like an old friend the moment you step into their home. To say this place is quiet is an understatement. From inside your room the only sounds you hear are the ones you choose to make. Had a couple of surprise visits from bugs, but this is not unique and is to be expected in such a woodsy environment. Overall a wonderful relaxing stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Karen & I had a great time in Lake Tahoe. Fred & Barbara were very nice. Great views and comfy room
- Shannon (10/5): Oh What a View - The views were un matchable ! Frederick and Barbara were like coming home to friends ! The whole structure was so unique and the background was something hear about how Frederick built it . Sitting on the patio eating breakfast and drinking coffee was a treat ! The rooms were private and fun to explore all the history these two have collected ! We had tears in our eyes as we drove away from their sweet faces and waving hands ! We will be back !!!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Totaling unique house, very European and attention to detail. Frederick and Barbara are excellent hosts. Some items are a little outdated but the view can’t be beat.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love the property. Wonderful host and hostess. Very relaxing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staying at this B&B was incredible. Every morning we ate breakfast overlooking the most gorgeous viee on the mountains. It was an unforgettable experience.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This place is awesome! It’s homely, inviting and comfortable, Barbara and Fred are so nice and made me feel welcome and the view was beautiful! Definitely will come back!!:)
- GALINA (10/5): Enjoyable stay in B&B. - We always try to stay in B&B when we travel. But lately it become a rare treat to find B&B. Location of B&B is on a top of hill with amazing view on Lake Tahoe. We enjoy sunset every day from a deck.
The breakfast is big, a lot of choices of cold meat, cheese, bagels, eggs and sweets. The room and bathroom are spacious. The view from a room and bathroom on lake Tahoe is incredible. Barbara and Frank very helpful and fun to talk. They always make tea for us at night(we love tea and mentioned it to them) and load plate with cookies to go with tea. Two small dogs friendly and funny creatures.
We got feeling that we visited our old friends.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Cool architecture and great views, but real dirty - Fred and Barbara are very sweet hosts and the house itself is an incredible piece of architecture with amazing views.
Unfortunately there were multiple items in our room broken and the place needs a heavy deep clean. 1. Tub drain didn't work so I bought my own plug. 2. Multiple bulbs were out and part of the glass on a lamp was missing. 3. Sculptures were chipped. 4. grouting on tub was cracked. 5. Lots of dust on window sills, silk plants, and behind bed. 6. Lots of gum wrappers behind night stand, and trash under bed. 7. Centipede in the bathtub 8. Tape over multiple fixtures with funky notes about them not working. The place needs a lot of fixing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fred and Barbara's home was a comfortable and quiet weekend stay for us. We stayed in the Dungeon. Down side of the room there are NO windows, upside to that is when the lights are turned off the room is very dark which I feel allows for better sleep.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fred and Barbara were very hospitable and kind. I thoroughly enjoyed our talks over breakfast!
- J jesus (10/5): - Beautiful place. Nice people!
- Nancy (10/5): hat a view. - This is like visiting someone in their home. Fred and Barbara are great. Wonderful breakfast and spectacular view. Great room with lots of amenities.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The view was amazing, and the hosts were very friendly and welcoming.
- Liza (4/5): - It was smelly the comforter the bathroom is not clean and dusty
- Drew (10/5): - A beautiful home built and maintained by a caring owner.
Incredible vistas, only spoiled in this specific instance by smoke from the fires in CA whose government should be extremely embarrassed and ashamed of what they have done to an incredible resource.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful view, the host is so friendly and accommodating. The room is well stocked, cozy, and comfy. Very nice complimentary breakfast.
- Rodolfo (10/5): - Great host, great place, quiet and cozy. With a great view of the lake.
- Christian (2/5): THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I'VE EVER HAD - The owner Fred is absolutely horrible:
-When he was giving us a tour he took us into what ended up being another guest's room and said, "Make it quick before they catch us." I found that very invasive for the other guest.
-He made a rude comment about my weight and said I should change my diet. After I kindly told him that wasn't very nice he got very irritated and his response involved profanity.
-The bed and breakfast could be cleaner
- Michael (10/5): Don't Miss This One! - This property is truly unique. The hosts Fred & Barbara and a couple of the friendliest people that you'll ever meet. Fred built the house from the ground up, you won't believe the design. He is a true craftsman. Barbara is a wonderful host. The location and views are incredible. Don't miss it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great View. Nice Owners. Property needs upgrading. Ants in room
- Todd (10/5): - Frank and Barbara are great hosts and have an absolutely amazing house in an amazing location overlooking Lake Tahoe. We hated to leave, and will definitely plan to return.
- Patricia (10/5): - Greatest location in Lake Tahoe. Views are unbelievable!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent view from the top, where the kitchen is at. And Fred is a great host. Thanks for opening up your house for tourists like me who enjoys the natural beauty the most.
- brian (8/5): - Barbara is the most thoughtful Hostess! Fred's upper deck has Best view of the entire Lake! A welcoming European B&B feel.
- Carlos (10/5): Best Place To Stay Bar None - My wife Michelle and I had an amazing time at Where Eagles Fly B&B. What an enchanting and entrancing place. The views are panoramic and breathtaking. Such a memorable experience that we can`t wait to try one of the other wonderful and remarkable rooms at this das Chateau or das Schloss. The best part was Fred and Barbara. It was a blessing to meet them. They were so kind and attentive, They are venerable and beneficent. Truly two of the best people we've ever met. You will definitely enjoy your stay at Where Eagles Fly!
- Tammie (8/5): Elegant, quiet, laid back, amazing views! - A beautiful home, lots of character and elegant design in a high-end residential area.
Fred and Barbara are fantastic hosts... I felt like I was visiting a long lost Aunt and Uncle from Germany!!! Very laid back and informal,
Much different feel than a signature hotel. It was very quiet and very comfortable there “Where the Eagles Fly”. I look forward to staying there again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great view of the lake! Room had millipedes everywhere though. Also recommend not bringing up politics with guests. We’re on vacation!
- Pamela (10/5): Spectacular - Fred and Barbara are so charming, the home is welcoming and you sure cant beat the panoramic view. Close to everything
- Danny (2/5): - The owners are super unorganized. They don't pay attention to important details.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Views were great. House was unique and German style. The service was disappointing for a bed and breakfast. Cleanliness was lacking. I felt like we were in the way of the owners by being there. The house was nice old style Tahoe, but the owners were negative about so many things. Wouldn't recommend for a romantic getaway.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The view from the property was exceptional and the hosts were very hospitable.
- William (6/5): Three dogs - Amazing view, three friendly dogs with dog remains on balcony, and helpful hosts. Continental breakfast every morning.
