Guest Reviews
- Marcia (10/5): - Zenobia was a wonderful host despite being ill while we were there. The bed was extremely comfortable. This was a particularly good location for us because our son's place was only a short walk. We would definitely return.
- Verified traveler (6/5): "Yes, BUT..." - Free breakfast, BUT not on WEs. No provision for making our own coffee. No microwave. Refrig full of food, BUT unclear if OK to eat. No response from host if OK to eat food in frig. Use of stove off limits. OK to invite friends over to visit BUT can't use second floor sitting room (no obvious reason).
Host was pleasant and hospitable. We were troubled somewhat by what seemed like quite a few double messages!
- Victoria (10/5): The best place I've ever stayed in NY - I highly highly recommend this place and I will definitely be staying here again. Zenobia is a fantastic host - she was beyond accommodating, had fantastic recommendations for things to do in the neighborhood, and went out of her way to make sure we had a great time. The house was beautiful and it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves most of the trip. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the outside patio is fantastic. The location is perfect - only a few blocks from the subway, very close to prospect park, and in a safe neighborhood that feels like home. You simply can't be the price and location for this place. It's perfect for anyone traveling solo, with a friend, or for a couples getaway. Zenobia, thank you so so much for having us. We'd loved every minute of it and can't wait to come back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): 4 days in NY - Had a lovely stay at this guest house. The owner was absolutely lovely and she couldn't have been more welcoming and polite. You were made to feel like you were staying with family to be honest; she was also a marvellous source of information for local shops etc. Room was large and clean, lovely bathroom en suite and an adjoining lounge. The house was a really nice period property, very quiet neighbourhood, about 5 mins walk to the subway and then about 30 mins to middle of Manhattan. Would benefit from some sidelights in the bedroom but that is me being really picky; it was lovely and I would highly, highly recommend staying here.
- Alicia (10/5): Excellent place to relax. - Everything was lovely. The guest house is in a great neighborhood, about a 15 minute walk from the Botanic Gardens and Brooklyn Museum. The common areas are very nice and our room was wonderful.
- Tanja Jolien (10/5): Charmant, originele B&B;Home sweet home in Brooklyn - Zeer gastvrije B&b, in charmant oud huis.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place...great location...great hostess!
We would stay there again and recommend it to anyone.
Incredible value for NYC and very close to the subway system and Brooklyn Bridge.
- Clive (10/5): Neighborly Guesthouse - Very friendly welcome in a homely house. Breakfast was great. Would stay again. Easy journey into New York from Prospect Park Subway station which was a 6 minute walk through a very friendly neighborhood.
- Doug (10/5): Great character, friendly staff, quiet locality - Was very pleased with our stay. The subway was very close by for travelling to Manhattan. Also Prospect Park is near and well worth a visit.
Would absolutely recommend this.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not good value - Having read the reviews, I was happy I was booking a room in a safe neighbourhood, however on day one, just around the corner, I was asked for money by a man who threatened to 'do bad things' to me if I didn't give him any. One day two there was a . very loud and aggressive contratemps outside the guest house involving two people - one of them had apparently pranged the other's car. The police had to be called to calm the situation. Maybe I was just unlucky but this didn't fill me confidence that the area is safe. The owner was helpful on check in but left us to our own devices during the rest of our stay meaning we didn't see her after that. I thought the place was rather shabby and the fact that we had to share a bathroom meant we were at the mercy of other guests' consideration - there was hairs all over the shower and floor one of the days. I was put out by the fact that the owner announced to us on check in that no shoes were allowed in the property meaning we had to go barefoot. Carrying heavy luggage down two flights of stairs on check out was not a pleasant experience and potentially very dangerous. When you're charging people to stay in your guesthouse, then factor in wear and tear on your floors as a business cost. Parking is also an issue as there are restrictions on the road and any available spaces get filled very quickly. No TV or coffee-making facilities in our room and breakfast consisted of helping yourself to practically nothing. All in all, not good value.
- Wendy (8/5): Pleasant stay - The house is lovely, and it has been furnished in a great way, with all the original features of the property being used to full potential. The lady who own the place is fabulous! Really helpful and knowledgable about what is going on and how to get there, and couldn't have been more helpful when there had been a mix up with the hotel I was due to stay in on my first night in New York. Parking is available and free but there are certain areas where you might need to move your car between certain times, and traffic in New York is as bad as you might imagine so if you can resist driving anywhere then do so. The area is busy with people no matter what time of day or night and if you are travelling on your own or with elderly relatives then you may want to avoid walking round after dark (the people are very friendly but like any densely populated area you do come across some unusual characters). There is an uber pretty much everywhere you turn so if you don't want to walk anywhere then you don't have to.
There are some great places for food and drink, both sit down and take out, and they are open late into the night. The subway is about a five minute walk, takes around 20 minutes to 42nd Street, and you get amazing views of the city on your way there! It's also really nice to be in an area sligtly further out from the business of Times Square.
- Kurt (10/5): Perfekt i lugna Brooklyn....
- Niek (8/5): Great value for money - We had a great stay. Zenobia welcomed us at arrival and check-in was smooth. Neighbourhood is nice, 5 minutes form Prospect Park and Subway. Ride on the train is less then 20 minutes from Manhattan. Our room was spacious, shower good.
- D Gentilhomme (8/5): Half-Marathon and NYC visit - I came for a half-Marathon and visiting NYC.
I've been so kindly welcome into a very clean and very very nicely decorated place, wood floors, nice furnitures. I've loved the common area.
The bed was great great!
Sharing the bathroom has not been an issue as it was kept in very good state at all time (I prefer bath to shower though...), and personally i did not interact with the kitchen.
I truly liked the place, and recommend it!
- PETER (10/5): - WELL LOCATED, CLOSE TO TRANSIT OPPORTUNITIES. GREAT HOST, GREAT FACILITIES. WE'LL STAY THERE AGAIN.
- Danielle (8/5): - It was good just to sleep
