- Felicity (4/5): Nice location, poor service - A beautiful location and affordable price. We had no contact with the owners, check in was confused. I had sent an enquiry the day before about breakfast but got no reply. We brought no food with us but on arrival could see what had been left was woeful, so we went to the town and bought a few things. Some of this was then eaten by another resident. The room/ ensuite was not really clean and the bed was uncomfortable. No view either despite what it said on the booking. This was more in line with what you might expect of a youth hostal. It was a pity with what looks like a fab cafe downstairs to experience none of it upstairs. On the plus side, it was an affordable price and we loved the situation next to the loch which was great for walks.

- Jennifer (6/5): Pleasant but needs a bit of TLC. - We received a warm welcome on arrival. The room was a good size and clean. We appreciated the coffee machine in the bedroom. The location, although slightly remote, is very picturesque and as the name suggests, right beside a loch. We had no hot water during our stay from either the sink tap or the shower. We left the shower running in the morning for a good 10 minutes before contacting our hosts. They informed us that it had been fixed but on trying again the water was still freezing. The room itself is a bit tired. Signs of damp around the windows, carpet in the bathroom, the bathroom door has warped so it will not close properly and my bedding was torn. Due to the property having thick walls there was no WiFi in our room, which may not be an issue for some but worth noting. I actually had no reception at the property at all and no WiFi so great if you need a digital detox. Breakfast was included but this was variety packs of cereal, milk, jam, a couple of tangerines and apples, and some Warburtons white bread in the self service kitchenette. It wasn’t what we expected. The cafe attached was closed. It just felt like it needed some TLC but I’m unsure if this is because we visited during the off season.

There was nothing I would change we bumped into Gareth later on and we were talking for a while it was as if we had known him for years. - Beth (10/5): A charming, quiet lodge with great atmosphere. - The location in a quiet little hamlet was fantastic, as I love being out of big cities. A major storm had closed some roads but we still found it easily. Loved the bedrooms despite steep steps to get up to them. Lovely decor and such comfortable beds with snuggly doonas, not the heavy cotton ones you find in many hotels. Gareth was extremely helpful with all his advice pre arrival, and on arrival. A self serve breakfast was adequate and the little upstairs kitchen and common room were useful. Sadly the Wee Bear cafe/bar was closed due to storm damage but we found a great fish/chips shop at nearby Alyth. I loved our stay here and wished we could have stayed longer - great ambience and a most helpful host. The steep steps would be a problem for some people but not for us.

I did not meet any staff, lockbox for key, refrigerator for my milk, cereal provided, I provided anything else like bananas. All meals could be eaten in a dining room which was provided and simple food could be prepared in the kitchen. Continental breakfast basics were provided. Room was very nice and our stay went well. The location proved the rural setting I had Hoped for and was central to an area I wished to visit on my holiday. I got what I paid for and am very happy with the stay, I have nothing negative to add. The stay was very affordable and I would happily stay there again.

- Jon and Mary (8/5): - Host gave us clear instructions to avoid construction on arrival and restaurant recommendations in a nearby town (the fish place was amazing!) Parking area was easy to navigate. Common area was nice to have but filled up quickly with small children in the evening. We could hear conversations through the wall of our room from the other side but we slept well. We didn’t get to try the cafe. Overall a good value.

- Astrid (8/5): - Schöne ruhige Lage am Loch, kleines aber sehr schön eingerichtetes Zimmer, Kommunikation mit dem Besitzer war sehr gut und es gab eine tolle Begrüßung und Einweisung obwohl er nicht persönlich da sein konnnte. Obwohl kein Frühstück im Preis inbegriffen war, gab es Kaffee, Saft, Cornflakes, Milch, Toast und Marmelade. Toller Service. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und würden jederzeit wieder dort buchen

There was extra space in the shared living room to sit and play games, or to cook breakfast in the morning with many things left for the guests in the fridge. Gareth was a very nice host, we only spent one day there, would have loved to stay longer!

The rooms were very comfortable, lots of tea and coffee. And then the bonus, there was a shared area where they had free tea, coffee, milk, fruit juice, cereals. All for us to enjoy. Would definitely recommend and if we are in the area again, we will be staying here. Fantastic place

Cocina compartida suficientemente amplia. Desayuno decorado cortesía por parte de la anfitriona. El día de nuestra llegada estaba cerrado el bar de abajo y no había nada cerca para cenar, lo más cercano a 9 km, para tenerlo en cuenta. Todo bien

- Gail (9/5): Suited our needs perfectly. - The complimentary continental breakfast was great and being a large group the communal lounge was good for us all to meet and chat, close by the rooms so we were still near the children. Unfortunately one of the group sustained a back problem just prior to the holiday so having to climb the steps was tricky, but once inside it was great.

The accommodation was in a very peaceful and picturesque area, with lovely walks nearby. Having a communal sitting room with games, TV etc was such a bonus. Having a kitchen off the communal sittingroom where we had a lovely breakfast at no extra cost was very generous, and very much appreciated. Absolutely nothing, it was all realy, really good!

Our room was one of the smaller ones but spotless & all we needed for 2 nights, with a great fancy, modern en suite shower. Outside caterers on the Friday night provided fantastic food & the Wee Bear Cafe provides superb home made fayre during the day. Would definitely recommend this wonderful place to stay.

The room had soap but no shampoo for the shower. The area around the lodge was lovely, but was very isolated, you would need a car. There was no restaraunt or bar opened after 4pm.

We were warmly welcomed upon our arrival, our room was cozy and clean. We enjoyed the living area and the breakfast had everything we needed for a day. Keep in mind that the sound isolation is very thin, so you will be able to hear your neighbours if they are a bit loud.

- Alexandra (5/5): Remote with no services. - The location was very remote. It says it lochside, which I guess it was but we did not see/could not get to the loch. They had a cafe/bar on sight but it was never open when we were there- but they didn’t tell us that! When we arrived- we learned that not only was there no food but we had to drive ANOTHER 1/2 hour to get food. Never saw anyone who worked there (although we heard someone playing music until late at night below us which we suspect was the owners)- even when the fire alarm went off- never saw anyone to clear it. On the other hand if you want a remote location and to be left on your own- it would be fine- just make sure you are self-sufficient. They do have a kitchenette for your use. See above. Not very good communication with staff. Bed was old and uncomfortable- my husband could feel springs in the bed.

- Jennifer (9/5): Great host. Beautiful premises. Great location - Wonderful facilities, Gareth very friendly and professional. Very lovely lounge and kitchen area. Best so far in all my travels. Very clean. No comp shampoo. I never take shampoo as I travel a lot and I travel light. This is something I did not plan for. As it was only one night no Biggy but a definite need.
- Susan (8/5): Very peaceful spot to stay, well off the beaten track - Very comfortable bed in a pretty room. Self service breakfast was very welcome! Would have liked to have been welcomed in person, by the host. Written instructions were easy to follow but lacked the personal touch
- Sophie (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable rooms. A warm welcome 🤗 and facilities to cook if desired. Also a lounge room is available stocked amply with breakfast supplies.
- Fisher (9/5): Excellent - Lovely place, friendly staff , beautiful room and the shower was amazing! The only thing was I noticed a little mould on the shower sealant! ( but I’ve just redone my shower sealant so probably why I noticed! ) but I’ll definitely stay again and know to book straight from the hotel! Thank you The price of the Taxi! Even though the taxi driver was extremely personable! We had a good chat but £30 for 6.5 miles was a bit much ! Maybe get an arrangement with the taxi company! But overall it was lovely and the cost with the Taxi was still £ 50. Cheaper than the next closest hotel! Thank you I was really happy with my experience!

- Rachel (9/5): A lovely quirky building in beautiful surroundings which is excellent value for money! - A lovely property accessed by outside steps which was beautifully clean. Having a group booking I was able to have a nosey around most of the rooms which were all tastefully decorated, clean and great value for money. The family lounge was a perfect place to relax and- as we weren’t expecting breakfast- the availability of cereals, bread, milk and juice along with tea and coffee was a much welcomed way to get us started on our day the next morning. Sadly we never met the hosts as we were running late, but communication with Gareth was absolutely spot on, and liked the note that was left on the door for our arrival. There were a few wobbly floor boards in the corridor which I soon learnt to manoeuvre around 😆 Perhaps it would have been helpful to have an idiots guide on how to use the coffee machines…My mum was very excited to use it but ended up making cold coffee! 🙈
- Deb (9/5): We loved it - Friendly helpful check in Great communal lounge with kitchen, appreciated the self serve breakfast. Quirky 1960’s furniture very tastefully furnished. The room was good value, just fine. Quiet, restful. The cafe attached called wee bear cafe is very fashionable and popular, lovely coffee and huge selection of cakes. We enjoyed walk by the loch. Thank you very nice Wee bear cafe was closed when we arrived in the evening- they have music and comedy nights, but not during our stay, that would have been fantastic. It’s not clear on booking . Com that the cafe is part of the facility
