Guest Reviews
- Yvette Zwennes (7/5): Kan beter.
- Pauline (10/5): Perfect stay in the Cotswolds, will definitely stay again. - Good base for exploring the southern Cotswolds. Really lovely traditional coaching inn , with lots of character. Room really nice, good size, very clean and comfortable, had everything you could need including a fridge and great wifi. Please note quite steep steps to rooms. Food was really good, choice of cooked breakfasts with hot and cold drinks, evening meals were also very nice, definitely recommend booking a table in advance. Staff were amazing, very polite and friendly, especially Shane who couldn’t help us enough. Will definitely stay again. Nothing.
- Teresa (9/5): I’d gladly stay there again. - Lovely hosts, great service, very good Sunday lunch.
- DAVID (10/5): A fabulous stay and well recommended - The Management and Staff at the Horse and Groom Inn were excellent and keen to make our stay there as comfortable as possible. Special mention must go to ‘Libby’ who went to great efforts to ensure our booking was cleared smoothly through Booking.com. The rooms were very clean, well prepared and the bed was very comfortable. All in all 10/10 Nothing

- Chris (9/5): - Great team, warm and friendly atmosphere. Simon and his crew look after everyone including the happy locals.
- Zoeh672 (8/5): -
- Amanda (7/5): Good value for money - The food and staff were amazing It was tired and not very clean
- Bridget (8/5): Reasonable pub stopover - It was a convenient location to break our journey and to visit Malmesbury The room needed some attention, the window on particular, clean the frame! The shower over the bath was ineffective. The menu was very ‘blokey! stodgy with few lighter options. The only fish was fried fish and chips.
- Vincent (9/5): - The staff and location were perfect. Lots of character. Shower took a long time to Heat but that's understandable in an old building.
- Rachel (7/5): Classic comfort - The rooms were beautiful and the bathrooms were massive. The staff were friendly and helpful. Everything was spotlessly clean. We didnt like being woken up to lawnmowers, strimmers and leaf blowers underneath the window at 7.30am. Waiting an hour until we were getting up for breakfast would be a good compromise.
The 'continental' breakfast seemed overpriced when it consisted of a packet of Alpen, a chocolate muffin, a packet of biscuits and a yoghurt. I think the biscuits could be swapped for a piece of fruit and the chocolate muffin could be a home made oat and raisin muffin.
- Melissa (8/5): - Nice big room and comfy bed. A bit out of town
- Tracey (1/5): Disgusting, shabby room which was sold as a premium, refurbished room. - Breakfast was OK on Saturday and Sunday, poor on Friday, there was no breakfast chef. Continental breakfast only served Monday to Friday. Staff were helpful and tried very hard, but were inexperienced and could not move me to another room as pub was fully booked. I paid for a premium room which was confirmed but was given a room which had not been refurbished despite the website photos showing otherwise. This is selling under false pretenses to charge for one thing and deliver something else. The room was shabby, scruffy and smelly. Paintwork was disgusting and the soft furnishings ripped. The curtains did not cover the windows. Basin covered in limescale. Owner confirmed to the manager the room had not been refurbished when she phoned to say I had complained. All guests were evacuated 08:00am Sunday morning because the chefs had spilt oil on the stove and did not know how to turn off the fire alarms. The owner had gone on holiday so was not on the premises despite it being a bank holiday weekend and leaving a young and inexperienced staff in charge. In addition owners were hosting a loud party in a marquee next to the pub on Saturday night which could be heard from the rooms.

- Matthew (10/5): -
- Timothy (9/5): Lovely country pub hotel - Friendly, welcoming staff, great food and comfy rooms
- Samantha (10/5): Everything I wanted in a break away. Definitely will be going back to same place and will recommend to others - Clean, lots of nice little extras in room. Decor lovely. Quiet at night so slept well. Nothing to dislike
- Laura (6/5): En general, no repetiríamos.

- Brasseur (9/5): - Nice old hotel a lot of charms
Spacious room
Restaurant was delicious and very warmly
Easy parking
- Jane (8/5): Will definitely go back - Friendly accommodating staff. Lovely atmosphere Nothing
- Miranda (10/5): Traditional and pretty property - Atmospheric traditional pub, pretty and nice interiors throughout with a good buzzing atmosphere during the evening. The food was 10/10 - great quality British food with neat presentation too.
- Emma (10/5): -
- Mark Richard (9/5): The Inn was under new ownership, it was clear they really wanted to make improvements - Bedroom way enormous.
Staff were superb
Really homely feel about the Inn
It was a true local pub Nothing really, perhaps alternative to a fry-up for breakfast
- Ilaria (6/5): -
- Michael (8/5): We arrived shortly after the new owners had taken over and things were being sorted out. Despite this all the staff were - It is in a quiet situation but not far from towns Nothing it was a typical 200 year old pub
- Ferran (9/5): -
- Scott (10/5): Excellent short stay near Marlborough - Breakfast was excellent. Great atmosphere - think country pub. Roads in the vicinity were pot holed so drive carefully. Owner could not do enough for his guests; we'll be back. Nothing comes to mind.
Pulizia approssimativa
- silvano (8/5): - BUON PUB E CIBO DISCRETO LA COLAZIONE NON PUO' INIZIARE DOPO LE 9.00 DI MATTINA
- Vicki (10/5): Really lovely place, John and Phil go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and make sure your stay is comfortable. - It was in a great location, very comfortable accommodation.
The staff were very friendly & the locals were all lovely.
Phil and John honestly couldn’t do enough to help and make sure you have a comfortable stay.
Thank you for making us feel so welcome. Nothing
Colazione all’inglese preparata sul momento molto buona.
- Rachel (9/5): - Literally everything 😅 tasty food, comfy bed, nice shower Honestly I couldn't fault it
- Hannah (7/5): -
- John (9/5): -
- Deborah (9/5): Great stay. Thank you Phil and John. We will return! - Having stayed here on several occasions, we knew what to expect, although the pub had been taken over by Phil and John only days before we arrived. The pub, as far as location goes, is on it's own, but close to Malmesbury. As long as you have transport, you are fine.
When we arrived, the pub was very busy with locals who were there to watch the rugby. Neverless, we were greeted by a really friendly young barman and then by John (the co-owner), who served us. We were then checked in by Phil.
The pub itself is still the same as it was when we first started staying here approximately five years ago, and this is part of it's charm.
We ate here on our first evening, and the food was really good, in fact, better than the last time we stayed, when we felt that the standard of food had gone down. After speaking with Phil, we shared our thoughts regarding the menu. The menu is limited, but, saying this, what is on there is of really good quality and standard, pub grub, but on another level. I wouldn't change a thing on it! Phil mentioned that they may do a specials board at some point, which seems like a good idea.
Breakfast was good, although we weren't given a menu. I'm sure that in time, there will be one.
We had a good chat with Phil and John, who, as I said, had only taken over the pub a few days before we arrived and had hit the ground running. I think they will do really well. They are two very genuine guys and I'm sure that they will make a real success of the pub. Well done and we wish you all the best for the future. We will return! The rooms are adequate, clean and tidy, but have not been refurbished since our first stay, approximately five years ago. The bathroom definitely needs a re-fit, but I'm sure this is something that the new owners, Phil and John will consider as time goes on.
- Gill (7/5): -
- Lucy (8/5): A wonderful comfortable stay! - The property is a very traditional pub with modern elements. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. You had fresh milk in the handy fridge and proper coffee for the cafetière too! We ate at the pub both nights and the food was delicious! The people are absolutely lovely and nothing is too much trouble. We were unfortunately horribly ill with colds when we stayed and they made sure we had everything we needed and that the cleaning was completed in the short time we left the room. We’d definitely stay again and look forward to finding other pubs that are under the same brand. Not so much that we didn’t like it but the stairs are steep and narrow (we were in the Avon suite at the very top). The velux window and blind in our bathroom really needs replacing as the blind is mouldy in places and a bit broken. The paint is peeling on the window.
- claire (10/5): great hotel for a stay near by Bristol countryside, very typical and friendly staff - cosy, friendly staff, good food (dinner and breakfast) and all necessary equipment nothing
- Aaron (9/5): -
- Kerry (7/5): - The location and price and dinner in the restaurant was superb It was loud having a room above a pub and I think the room/bathroom could have been cleaner.
- Léo (10/5): Absolutely loved our stay ! Cozy rooms, good meals, charming pub and very kind staff ! - We absolutely loved our stay! The location was very charming and typical, with a great atmosphere in the pub. The breakfast and dinner were excellent. The pub itself is beautiful, cozy and animated. The staff were very kind without exception. Our room was very cozy and comfortable.
- Mary (9/5): Really enjoyed my stay and was made to feel so welcome. - It was essy to get into Tetbury, the manager gave me directions.
All the staff were so pleasant and friendly and very courteous.
Breakfasts and evenings meals were very good
Staff seemed to go the extra mile to make my stay so good.
Would recommend the Horse & Groom and I look forward to staying again.
Finally,Kes, the manager was so good and helpful and has a good staff relationship. A coffee machine would have been lovely and slso maybe a hot choclate drink in the room.
- liz (9/5): Lovely country pub with great staff - The staff were so friendly and helpful .
- Sarah (10/5): Lovely rooms and great value for money. - Lovely room (the Snug) with comfortable bed and gorgeous decor. Loved the little touches (plants and books and Dyson fan to keep us cool. Nothing, it was perfect for what we needed.
- Mahyar (9/5): -
- Jez (10/5): Lovely hotel with great staff who looked after us all very well. - Lovely old Cotswold building with great charm & character. Comfortable rooms with everything you could want available. Nothing
- Jason (8/5): -
- Emily (10/5): Will defintely return! - Lovely charming typical Cotswold pub with friendly staff to match. Big room with everything you need provided and really comfy bed. Free parking, good wifi, nice food! Very good value for money!!
- Beibit (10/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): Comfortable and quiet rural retreat, ideal for touring southern Cotswolds - The food was excellent although the choices for a vegetarian were a bit limited. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a very good atmosphere.
The room(s) were comfortable and the bathroom(s) clean. The booking system was down and Ambra the manager (her third day in the job) had no idea we were coming but she rallied round and go us sorted. Next issue was problems with the plumbing requiring us to change room, which was up a second flight of stairs, which wasn't the best for my wife. Ross the relief manager gave us a free meal for our troubles, which was appreciated.
- Sarah (9/5): Very comfortable stay, friendly staff and excellent food. -
- Martim (10/5): -

- Andrew (10/5): 100 per cent - Clean, good food and ale good staff
- Sharron (10/5): A lovely experience from a-z. A quintessentially English inn experience. - The warm welcome, excellent food, gorgeous cosy room, super professional and friendly team. Excellent Nothing
- Chris (9/5): - Fantasticly attentive and friendly staff, very professional. Food was delicious and bath was super deep and luxurious. Only reason it wasn't a 10 was the room didn't have any sound dampening so was a little noisy while the pub was open
- Sally (10/5): - Warm and cosy. Lovely staff and great food. A very comfortable stay
- Kerry (9/5): Excellent - room, food and staff! - The room was lovely, the breakfast was 10/10 and the staff were amazing. We also ate dinner which was fabulous! Nothing - everything was great!
- Michael (10/5): Delightful hotel, excellent food and extremely helpful and friendly staff. - A delightful old world property well maintained and i. a lovely secluded position. Masses of character. Well presented menu with many locally sourced items. Well cooked and served. Thoroughly pleasant experience. Excellent breakfast. Nothing .. will definitely return. However, those with mobility issues may find access to rooms a little challenging.
- Frances (8/5): Good pub stay with friendly locals and staff - Breakfast, dinner and staff were exceptional The room and building felt tired

- Jane (9/5): -
- Aimee (8/5): Brilliant stay, perfect location and lovely staff. - Spacious bedroom Bathroom a little tired, mouldy bath seals, stained shower curtain
- Patricia (8/5): Cozy and Tastefully - It was very cozy, with friendly staff.
It’s a nice guesthouse, nothing fancy.
The breakfast was good.
The place was tastefully decorated. The only downside is that I found it rather expensive for what it offers, but I understand that the prices are similar in that region.
Dinner was also a bit overpriced considering what we got, but food is good.
- Lisa (8/5): -
- Charlene (9/5): Lovely accommodation, nice restaurant, great parking facilities - The accommodation was simply lovely and it exceeded our expectations. The rooms were very clean and big, with a nice window overlooking beautiful English scenery, and also with good amenities including French press coffee. Parking facilities are very good. The host and all the staff are lovely. The area is very quiet and a good getaway, yet close to main road. The restaurant is amazing, both the breakfast and dinner were fresh and delicious, with specials changing on an ongoing basis. Would love to visit again! The rooms aren't soundproof so sometimes you can hear the people at the bar (only during the busiest times not all the time). FYI- you need a car to travel around and the surrounding streets are dark at night (it was not an issue for us but something to keep in mind). The rooms are only accessible by stairs but the host offers to help with suitcases.
- Steve (9/5): Easy Check in superb food lovely room - Easy check in Kes sorted everything including Evening meal
Partner Gluten free no problem at all
Nice friendly place made to feel welcome
Great nights sleep comfortable room with everything you need Nothing was all good No complaints at all
- Federica (9/5): Soggiorno alle cotswolds - Colazione inclusa buonissima ogni mattina con uova in camicia, avocado, yogurt, porridge, croissants e molto altro tutto espresso. Camera grande e letto comodo. Piccoli doni in camera. Pulizia al limite, moquett
- Junie wadhawan (10/5): Super happy! - We loved the food, the ambience and the staff!!full marks for all of those;)The food was indeed exceptional for us vegetarians!!!
- Tommaso (9/5): -
