Hélène (6/5): - booked in February for July vacation: a room 2 beds with balcony, they have 4 rooms with balcony, one on each conner of the building. They gave us the one with the view on the parking lot, to bad, when you reserved 5 months in advance to have the one with the worst view. "Kitchen": no cutlery, no plates or glasses. But every else was very nice.

The King Suites are huge though and have everything you need to be comfortable. Not having 24/7 front desk service might not work for some travellers.

Bathroom in-floor heating system didn’t work but thermostat controls made a loud mechanical click every 5-15 seconds…all night long. Very helpful staff but they were unable to fix it during our stay. Three floors of outside, slippery wooden stairs…two floors of steep inside stairs. No alternative option to get luggage to our room. Just too pricey for the room issues.

Christine (2/5): - Would highly recommend AGAINST staying here. The heat pump unit above the door had leaked at some point and there was a stain on the wall with black mould spots clearly visible. There were several signs clearly asking visitors to not change the mode of the heat pump (ie. heat or cool) saying that none of the units would work if the mode was changed. Due to this I was unable to lower the temperature in the room and it was much too warm for me to get a good night’s sleep. The only available ice was an individual ice machine in the room that had black mould inside it. The bathroom floor had very long, straight, black hair on it. I was the only person staying in the room and I have shoulder length, very curly grey hair. The bathroom floor had definitely not been vacuumed. The power cords hanging down from behind the tv on the wall were fluffy with so much dust and clumps of dust on them. I travel quite often and I don’t go looking for things dirty and wrong in a room so I just had to say something about this. I took pictures of all of this so I’m disappointed that I can’t share them here. Please, save your money and your health, and stay anywhere else.

The oncall person was rather salty when we had some issues getting to the property even though it was during daytime. The signage could be better, the lights on the back stair were not working.

From check-in to check-out, we were pleased with the friendly staff, convenient location, spacious room, cleanliness, reasonable rate, and the lovely deck from which we could watch for whales and enjoy the sunset. There is also a spa next door!!

Although we didn’t use it, the suite had a full kitchen which would have been amazing to take advantage of had we been able to stay longer. The one staff we interacted with at check in was friendly and helpful. When we’re back in Powell River we’ll definitely book here again.

Negatives were the large flight of stairs to the parking lot and condition of the unit needs a little tlc. Sofa bed is damaged an unuseable, bathroom heated floors were nonfunctional. Other than that it was great, we enjoyed our stay.

My only comment really is that there is no elevator and walking up the three flights to room was a bit bothersome for my knee. I knew before booking there was no elevator AND I’d also still book there as it was that good. Minor but the jets in the tub went off in the night and it was not clear how to turn them off.

Terry (10/5): - 5 stars. The covered porch made the difference between this and other properties. If it wasn’t sold out in July when I return, I’d book again in a heartbeat. Deduct 1/2 star for no elevator though. 23 steps lugging 45lbs of luggage. I’m a professional traveler and travel lightly, but for a 2-week stint in Canada, one never knows what weather will be in store. If you’re a light traveler, feel free to add the 1/2 star back in. As it was, the weather was beautiful and the views from the porch are spectacular. Deduct another 1/2 because wireless while it worked in the room, it didn’t 20 feet away on the porch. If you’re from Canada with an unlimited data plan, that won’t be an issue so there’s another 1/2 star back.
