Guest Reviews
- Anne-Lise (8/5): - Chambre moderne, bon resto.
- Wilhelmina (3/5): Terrible noisy room - Staff was friendly
The shower was good
A good breakfast. Awful room. Smaller than we expected (and I think payd for).
Very noisy; passing cars and people entering the hotel.
Very cheaply renovated.
- Peter (8/5): I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area - I booked into this hotel with a buddy as we were participating in a local cycling event. It is located about 4 miles from Pitlochry. Our room was large, clean, lovely and undergoing minor improvments, as is the hotel itself. A bonus for us was the fact that we could have dinner here too which we did. The food and service is excellent. The staff are engaging and value for money factor was high.
I also needed a bit of assistance with an issue which arose, completely unrelated to the hotel but Paul the proprietor went miles out of his way to assist me. The bar has a nice selection of whisky and the locals are great characters too.
We would definitely stay here again.
Sláinte Nothing at the hotel really; there is no taxi service to speak of in Ptilochry.
- ALISON (9/5): Friendliest and best stop over in the area - Perfect location for a stop over while touring. The team were exceptionally helpful and friendly and made a great roast dinner for us on Sunday when the restaurant was closed.

- Kees (7/5): -
- Pamela (7/5): Good value, unpretentious - Friendly staff and excellent food Location near a busy road
- Julia (8/5): -

Rien
- Sally (10/5): Would recommend - Very friendly nothing too much trouble. Food lovely. Rooms good Nothing

- Gill (10/5): -
- Phoebe (7/5): Comfortable for a one night stay - Good breakfast provided, comfortable beds. Shower pressure was excellent Floor was a little dirty
- Rachel McCabe (10/5): Fabulous small hotel experience! - Paul, the manager and chef at The Ballinluig Inn, went out if his way to make our stay sooo comfortable. For a hotel, that, for the night that we were there anyway, was so quiet his culinary skills are exceptional. My partner and I both have dietary restrictions and our meal was superb. Oh, and it's a great please to stay if you're adventuring at Nae Limits the next day! All fabulous!

- Victoria (10/5): Absolutely perfect for what we were looking for. - Staff were so welcoming and helpful. Easy to park. Free parking. Delicious dinner and breakfast. Rooms very clean and lovely. Bed comfortable. N/a
- Mark (10/5): Food was on point staff very helpful - Location and facilities The staff were fabulous
- Dean (8/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): - Friendly staff and excellent food. Relaxed atmosphere and great for our young pooch.
- Kim (8/5): - It was just off the main road so it wasn't that noisy. The room was very comfortable.
- Campbell (8/5): Excellent location and great staff - would come again. - Great location and the food was excellent. Clean and well equipped room. Staff were also lovely. The shower needs upgrading.
- Rona (5/5): Disappointed should have stayed at home - Nice staff food was good Booked in First night decided to have a bath. Water was cold. The inn was situated right next to a road where all the forest Lorrie’s and trucks ran by. Very noisy. They even had ear plugs in the room for you. Bedroom needs to be freshened up.
- Michael (8/5): Characterful venue, excellent welcome and flexibility from Daniel & Ellie - An old highland village inn now run by 2 brothers. Good value & the sort of full Scottish breakfast that sets you up for the day. Though ‘out of town’ for me since my focus was on and at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre I was pleased I’d made this choice especially when I discovered Friday night was music night! Nothing to complain or bridle at
- Metcalfe (7/5): Comfortable and staff great - Location was great Property is old and its character shows that.it seems that it just needs that little bit more attention to detail to make the inn attractive. They seem to have half finished the rooms but what has been done is good
- stephen (9/5): - Staff were very helpful and welcoming and the building although old was very clean and comfortable No bad points
- Ken (9/5): Very enjoyable, made to feel very welcome and would happily stay again - Friendliness and care from Daniel and his team..the food was top class Nothing really..only fault is that the room needs a fresh lick of paint
- Mark (10/5): -
- Rebecca (10/5): -
- van Bommel (7/5): - Squeaky floors. Dated bathroom
- Chris (7/5): -
- Reg (8/5): Good overnight stop - Young lady serving dinner &breakfast superb, pleasant, knowledgeable, efficient,,was ready for a bit of banter,(a gem for any business)Very discrete, very attentativ,Would safely say that this young lady could/should advance swiftly if this is her career choice.....Booking in good, room could do with a bit of TLC,nothing a person useful with general repairs could not fix ...... General decor and very minor maintenance
Rien.
- Erika (10/5): Easy and clean stay with friendly staff. - Check-in was easy with friendly staff. They were communicative proactively with late check in instructions (should you arrive post 7:30pm). Room was spacious and clean. My room was on the second floor and there was stairs. Complementary breakfast were delicious. I would stay here again.
- William (8/5): Perfect - It was clean and tidy perfect
- Jeanette (10/5): - Breakfast was amazing! It’s a good halfway point to Inverness and is close to Blair Castle and House of Bruar. Was sad the restaurant wasn’t open for dinner
- William (10/5): -
- NICOLAS (7/5): -
- Murray (10/5): -
- Nicole (6/5): Good spot for passing through, staff are lovely. Room is basic but comfortable enough for a short stay. - The staff were extremely friendly and helpful both for the accommodation and at the restaurant. Food was good, room was warm and clean. Strong smelling incense everywhere which was quite overpowering. There was a very loud appliance operating outside our room throughout the night too which meant we didn’t get a lot of sleep.
- Vanessa (9/5): -
- Rebecca (2/5): - Unfortunately, our stay was very disappointing.
We booked through Booking.com after specifically searching for a dog-friendly hotel. When booking, the first room offered did not allow dogs. Therefore we opted for the second room option that cost £20 more, which we assumed covered the dog fee. However, when we arrived, we were told there would be an additional £20 charge for the dog. I tried to clarify this, as I believed I had already paid the higher rate for a dog-friendly room, but was simply told that dogs cost extra. Due to being snow-trapped, we had little choice but to accept.
I also asked whether breakfast could be brought to the room due to a medical condition. Rather than explaining politely that this wasn’t possible, the response was a head shake...
We were told the room was cold because they “weren’t expecting us” and had only just turned the heating on. However, as the room was available to book, we would have expected it to be prepared for guests. The room remained very cold throughout the night.
As the result of an accident, I asked for cleaning supplies such as wipes or disinfectant. I was told nothing could be provided as it was “chemical based.” I then asked for a bucket of hot water, or anything i would be grateful for. Eventually, I was given some tissue and cold water in a tub.
It felt very dismissive not like somebody going out of their way in order to assist someone else in a situation because you genuinely wanted to help another person out.
Finally, the cleanliness of the room was very poor. The floor was visibly dirty, and after showering, water spread across the floor. When I used towels to dry it, they turned black from the dirt on the floor, which was very concerning.
Overall, the experience fell far below expectations, particularly in terms of communication, cleanliness, and basic hospitality.
- Peter (8/5): Great place to stay to break up your travels - Clean and presentable. Good food Squeaky or loose floor board in corridor which vibrated our room bed. Strange
- Valentino (10/5): -
- John (10/5): - Great value for money. Very welcoming and very good food. We enjoyed our overnight stay.
- Richard (9/5): - Location, parking, friendly staff, good breakfast
- Barbara (8/5): It was lovely - The food was fine, but we were off season. Everything was fine
- Maureen (10/5): Lovely room. Comfortable bed. Great breakfast. Friendly staff - Everything N/A
- Jamie Wilmore (10/5): Beautiful place with great food - Accommodated all my requests for the room.
Reasonable price.
The food was exquisite, I had dinner and breakfast there. Highly recommend.
They provided my room with more than two caffeinated coffee packets. That's rare and very much appreciated. We all want at least 2 coffees in the morning!
The staff were super kind and helpful. Nothing
- Elizabeth (10/5): Amazing hotel - Staff are amazingly friendly. Very accommodating. I could hear other guest banging off the walls as they were going to their rooms.
- eric (8/5): -
- SmileOn (10/5): - Well run. Staff responsive to needs. Surprisingly modern.
- Rob (4/5): Overpriced down at heel hotel with road noise and poor breakfast. - Staff were friendly. The good in the bar at dinner was decent. Had a nice large room with a sofa. Down at heel hotel, with pictures that make it look much nicer than it is. The radiators were old and rusty, the shower door was broken and the water pressure from the shower was bad. There was no hot water from the bath or sink. The road noise from the A9 mere metres away is loud. The continental breakfast was, I think, the worst I've ever had. Dried out cheese and cheap serrano ham, some dry and dusty mini croissant from a packet, a single yoghurt pot. No plates available, so I just used the saucer sized side plate. I would have expected to pay £90 for a hotel this quality, not £130. I'm not expecting the Ritz for that price, but this was a poor hotel.
- Balfour (10/5): A great value for money stay with smiling staff and great food - From the initial check-in where they helped me move a room so I was not over the bar to the lovely bistro dinner, the smiling staff clean room and great breakfast. They could’ve not done more for me and I would recommend it highly.
- Geraldine (8/5): - Clean room and facilities.
Great breakfast. Cooked to order options as well as fresh fruit and lovely warm pastries.
Lots of parking out front.
Friendly service at breakfast. Room size a little small but we only stayed 1 night so not too much of a negative.
- Fiona (8/5): - The service was excellent
- Alexander (6/5): -
- Alena (9/5): Very pleasant and comfortable - Breakfast Very good , Dinner extra special Price a little lower.
- SALLY (8/5): -
- Aileen (8/5): Warm welcome and a very pleasant stay - Spacious room and comfortably warm
We had a good breakfast and the staff were friendly and efficient Nothing
- Astley (9/5): -
- Eddie (10/5): This is our second time staying here and would book again. Great location for Pitlochry and great team looking after you - Great location Clean rooms
- Roberto (8/5): perfect stop for our road tripin scotland and discovering pitlochry -
- Jenkyn (5/5): We won't be back - Bed and breakfast You could not provide dinner so we had to drive to Pitlochry. This meant that we could not have a drink with our dinner.
Your facilities are significantly below the standard suggested by the price that you charge.
- James (7/5): Good value, lovely staff - Really friendly, helpful staff
Food was lovely - excellent value
Easy location Smell of paraffin throughout
Bathrooms were a bit tired
Stairwell needs a refurb
Little touches like pictures on the walls upstairs to make it feel more homely
- Sarah (8/5): -
- Bruce (9/5): -
- Sylvia (8/5): No complaints -
- Dawnzer1980 (8/5): Will be back - Daniel the gentleman who greeted us was super friendly and knowledgeable It wasn’t that I didn’t like it but I would like to suggest maybe having a vegan option of a desert and a margarine for breakfast
- Caroline (10/5): -
Rien!
- Para 48 (9/5): Great location and friendly staff. - Convenient location.Great food and fantastic staff. Depending on the wind, fuel smell from boiler sometimes perculates into our room - but a minor problem.
Also, previous guests have broken the bottom wheels on the shower door, needs fixing, again a minor problem.
- Daniele (6/5): - Buona posizione, proprio in autostrada.
Colazione abbondante. Stanza e bagno molto minimal, e in alcuni versi trascurata
classico hotel di passaggio.
Pulizia quasi sufficiente.
- Carmen (8/5): Don't miss breakfast there - Breakfast was fantastic, we were super happy with it (I had juice, tea, cereal, fruit and a gluten free toast with eggs and smoked salmon). Staff was friendly, we felt safe and could park in the inn. The room was clean and comfy. We would love if the room had a minibar to keep our stuff cool, but to be fair the price was very good for spending the night with breakfast included, so everything ok.
- Brenda (7/5): -
- Sara (2/5): - Not much We stayed at the Ballinluig inn and we didn’t enjoy our stay. The negatives really overshadowed our experience.
What I could say that might be positive would be the breakfast and the water pressure.
Now to what we didn’t like. Our stay felt like we were in a prison/construction sight box. Walls we’re cheap plastic/MDF, floor was squeaking and not level with many bumps in it, floor was also sticky as if it was baked in oil or honey.
Now on to the noise. A good portion of the night people were walking/running across the hallway which made our whole bed shake and outside of our room was a blow off valve/ventilator which kept dumping air and steam out.
We don’t know what it was but our whole stay it smelled like we were staying inside of a deep fryer.
Would we recommend going here? For us it’s a no. Maybe there are other rooms which are bettering with the experience we had we’re unable to see through it!
- R (8/5): -
- Nigel (7/5): -
- Jill (7/5): - Great location, helpful staff, lovely bar and restaurant. The bathroom door and floor creaked, when I used the bathroom during the night it woke my partner up
- Vittorio (8/5): - Posizione. Colazione Doccia con sportello rotto
- Kimberly (8/5): -
