Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (2/5): - we din't find nobody nocode for the keys and in the middle of the night very bad experience
- Rick (2/5): Nobody there to give access to the room - There was nobody there to give you a key. After about an hour calling and leaving messages I had to book another accommodation for that same night. I'm still looking to get a full refund
- Torulv (10/5): Best way to enjoy Fredricton - Incredibly friendly staff and such a beautiful location we didnt want to leave here. This place is your only option when visiting fredricton
- Derek P. (10/5): Very nice place and location - It was great to stay in a place like this as we awaited our apartment to be ready.
- Marlene (8/5): - Largw comfortabke at the right price. The outside was off putting but inside was great
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very comfortable and well equipped. However, the people/person above could be heard tramping around at all times.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cute little apartment, very clean and comfortable. Outside looks old and worn but no issues inside.
- Jason (8/5): - Well equipped and surprisingly nice on the inside. At the time could use a new bed.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Under new day to day management - did not respond to questions. Shame, always loved this spot but won't be back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice character house gave a warm and homey feeling.
- angrycustomer (2/5): Broken air-condition, not well maintain property - Broken air-condition,
shabby horrible dirty building ,
not well maintain property and ignorant property owner and management.
We have terrible experience , you want to avoid it at any cost !!!!!!!!!!!
- Glittergale (2/5): Smelled of smoke and cigarette burns on sheets - Nothing about this property impressed me. The porch looked like it might come falling down, the whole place smelled of stale smoke and when I turned down the sheet there was a cigarette burn in the sheets. I opened the drawers and there were other sheets bundled in there that were not even folded. I was unsure if the towels were clean because I did not smell detergent on them so we used our own. Fortunately we only spent one night in this accommodation. We woke up pretty early and just moved on.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Very disappointing - At the surface looks just Ok but dont look too close. Cleaniness not up to standard. Using dark colors still does not hide it all. AC working great downstairs you can get it down to 16C but still absolutely useless as the bedrooms upstairs temp reached 30C+ . Ended up not even spending the night, booking into a hotel and leaving anyway for emergency reasons but even so I would not have stayed. Tried to reach the owner by tel 2x and text but once checked in good luck. My booking was from 2nd to 7th (I had added to the first booking and paid 2x all the fees although it was added on) left on the same day I checked in without even staying the night. Lost all the $.
Regardless I would not recommend to a friend.
- Helen (8/5): Comfortable, Affordable, Rustic - Satisfied with our stay. Our unit looked recently refurbished, was clean and in good condition. The suite is actually a part of a house, with a kitchen, living room area, bathroom and bedroom...not fancy, but comfortable. One minus was the entry system that the owner has in place. There are 3 separate entry options, with the initial one being opening a lockbox to access the key. The lockbox was really difficult to open, we needed assistance from the manager, as did our friends who were staying at another WorkPlaySuites location in the same town. Also, option 2, the entry code lock, worked sporadically. We consistently used entry option #3, the key once it was retrieved from the lockbox. These entry issues need to be sorted out by owner/manager. On the Plus side, the manager, Mohammed, responded really quickly to our phone call and was at the location to open the door in under 10 minutes. Otherwise, once we got in, it was a good stay, not fancy, but clean, comfortable and affordable. Overall I would definitely recommend WorkPLaySuites to anyone looking for a relaxed, comfortable stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Union street - Floors gritty. Never got my access code early enough. Slightly smelly when walked in. Other than that great experience. Great location, good price, lovely furniture, big parking lot. Would recommend. An over night was ideal.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very poor conditions, the Union St property looks like a fire-trap, in very poor condition. This property is unfairly enhanced on the Expedia website, very fooling. I was sorry that I booked this as accommodation. Will never make that mistake again.
- Hong (2/5): Worst Travel Experience - We arrived at the house before 8 pm. The door was locked. I looked around and found a phone number. I called the number, nobody answered, just let me leave a message and said they would call back asap. I waited, then called again and got the same result. We finally had to leave from there and looked for another hotel for that night.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - A terrible experience. Check in details were sent so late that we had booked alternative accommodation by the time we got the info. Communication was non-existent, despite several attempts to request check in info 2 days before arrival. Communication after this débacle was abrupt and impolite. I would recommend looking elsewhere for your accommodation.
- Outoftowner (2/5): Yikes - Bed was horrible
Bathroom was dirty, the shower curtain had never been replaced or washed and there was an inch thick duct on the picture frames
Dishes had chips in the glass
No heat
Neighbours upstairs parties all night the first night. We didn’t stay the rest of our trip, we went to a hotel
- Verified traveler (8/5): - For the purpose of our stay it worked well
- Verified traveler (6/5): Underwhelmed - First time at this property. Didn't really know what to expect. Owner texted me with check-in instructions on the day of the visit, and check-in worked well. After that, though, there were snags. 1. The TV did not work, as the FibreOp modem was in error mode and could not be fixed. Called attendant, who was pleasant, but unable to do anything with the TV box. He said he would have to try to get it fixed tomorrow. That was no help to me, as I was staying only one night. He also had challenges with English and reeked of cigarettes. Nice fellow, though. 2. The owner texted that I should expect coffee, milk and cream, but there was none of that. Fridge was empty, and no coffee to be found. 3. There were several lights not working, and a fixture from the kitchen ceiling was sitting on top of the fridge. The bathroom mirror light fixture had no bulbs. The place was in poor repair. 4. There was lots of noise from the upstairs residents that persisted until well after 11:30 p.m. Lots of loud talking, stomping around. It was not helpful. Overall, I was attracted by the initially advertised price of the $69 range, but with "mandatory fee" and other things it ended up being over $100. Never again.
- Sheila (10/5): - Great, close to all we needed, enjoyed our stay very much. I have & will be able to share the pics I took of where I stayed,I do recpmend this everyone & I will be returning. Thanks so very much
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Bed was very soft for my liking. Was on main floor suite and the family upstairs had 2 young children and were up until midnight. Was woken up several times and was unable to get back to sleep.Location was great and easy to get around Fredericton.
- Fred (8/5): - Good value for the money. Older building, but spacious apartment. Full range, fridge, microwave, toaster oven, dishes and pots/pans. Ideal if on a budget.
- Deb (6/5): Close to food places - When we arrived after the check in time, our room was not ready, no Internet, tried many time to get it, no face clothes had to buy some and they also advertise free coffee but none. The place needed a good cleaning, not just everyday things but a lot of little things like the picture frames were dusty, stove dirty and greasy, cupboards needed to be cleaned inside. Some garbage left behind, light bulbs missing.
- Jason (8/5): Not bad, will probably go again - It was overall good. Couch wasn’t very comfortable but the bed was. Fridge worked, so did the tv and heater. Decent price and my contact was helpful. No face to face but that doesn’t bother me.
- Bruce M. (6/5): Overall - Not too bad but it could be much better - While we loved the size and the layout of apartment 2 (2 bed room - main floor with loft), the attention to detail and the overall cleanliness could be improved. For example, the kitchen utensils and cutlery are a mixed assortment of items like you might find in a student's apartment. The quality of towels and bedding suggest they did not cost much. Also, the place could use a thorough vacuuming and dusting (especially the baseboards and window sills). Also, we were promised more toilet paper, but it never arrived. On the plus side, it is close to most services and it has a great sitting room that looks out onto the Saint John River toward downtown Fredericton.
- Jackie (4/5): - I was very disappointed with the cleanliness of the apartment. The linens where old and dirty looking. The place was very dusty. We expected complementary tea, coffee, cream and milk there was only coffee and a old newspaper from November.
- Verified traveler (6/5): It needs basic TLC and it will be good to go - The 2-bedroom apartment is fine and would normally be a better place to stay than a hotel room. It has a very nice kitchen, living room with a big TV and a small front (sun) room where you can have a morning coffee. The problem seems to be is that this property is in managerial transition. Consequently we weren't given the right codes to open the door, we had to wait until the next day to receive the appropriate codes for wifi (3 calls) we never did receive wash clothes or hand clothes (only phoned once about that and was assured we'd have by day's end (we were there 2 day's) there wasn't a lot of toilet paper left on the roll and there were no extra. Also, even though there was a dishwasher there were 3 forks and no bowls (although there was a crockpot etc.?) A full spice rack but no salt. I think if the owner spent one hour reviewing the apartment (we fixed 2 of the 3 clocks, for example) and hired an appropriate cleaner (the cleaner should have known to have face clothes, hand towels, toilet paper) so that there wasn't dish clothes in the bedroom bureau drawer and unusable clothes underneath the sink (when used heavy yellow liquid emerged) this could be a nice place to stay. I couldn't recommend this place as is but a little bit of attention to detail and it would be good to go.
- Troy (10/5): Home away from home - Cheaper than a hotel and the comfort of home.
- A.E. (10/5): - It was a lovely, big apartment. I can definitely recommend it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ok....but! - Positives: Room outfitted with almost everything you could ever need. More than large enough space for one on business. The owner does seem to be quite attentive to ensuring the guests are well accommodated. Washer and dryer were an awesome addition. Temperature controls were located throughout the space and worked well as well as the air conditioner, table and ceiling fans, etc.
Not a fan of a entry numbered keypad lock as it didn't appear to be changed with each paid guest as it was written in the information manual. I would recommend adding an additional internal deadbolt for overnight. Busy street location so a bit noisy from traffic. Difficulty sleeping with blinds that didn't block light from street lights. Mattress was in need of replacement. Security system sent a loud warning beep every hour about low battery and open window (however it was closed and locked). Contacting owner didn't resolve situation. No teaspoons but all the other utensils you could imagine were there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasant surprise - In a rush to conserve data, did not realize at first realize that WorkPlaySuites was a self catering house. Although the front yard did not bode well (untidy, unkempt, etc), nor did the musty, staircase leading to our apartment, first appearances were surprised by a nice, modern in appearance fully equipped apartment in an older single dwelling building. It would not be a surprise to learn the house is over 100 years old. Fully equipped TV system, cable, WIFI, streaming, etc. Washer/dryer with some nice touches as in washer soap. The little nook facing the river was the most charming part of the house. It is accessed by an entry code provided by the owner/manager via text, email. If I had not obtained a Canadian Sim card with data, would not have been able to access/receive this most important information. Hope more properties like this become available in the future. Would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A nice comfy apartment. - You must remember to call at least a day ahead to get final directions and entry details as actual accommodation may be different from email booking confirmation, and there is no reception. We didn't call and ended up having to scramble when we arrived at the listed address on a holiday weekend. Thankfully the owner was still available and answering calls. And he was very friendly and understanding and helpful. Overall a good choice for us as it turned out to be a full amenities apartment. Really useful as we needed washer/dryer after being on the road for a week+. Parking was easy and on property. Neighbours upstairs had kids and we could hear them running and bouncing balls at night but generally acceptable noise level for apartment type abode. Neighbours were also friendly, esp the kids which is always nice. Location wise it is across the river from downtown city centre Fredericton where all the action is. But not a problem as it is very near the main bridge connecting the two sides and if energetic, can even walk across for dinners, pubs etc and then stroll back. We felt safe and the bridge is well lit. Also walkable to riverfront and walking trails. Only gripe we had was that the place was dusty. Maybe due to being on ground floor and next to a roadway that leads to the bridge access. Nevertheless something for the owner to consider prior to each new guest sign-in.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Room was cancelled by proprietor day of due arrival for false reasons.
Sorted out, unfortunately.
- Heather (4/5): Dark and Dirty - Would never stay there again! The unit was old, run down, dark and dirty. The living room rug was gross...needed to be thrown out. The couch was dirty, I had to put a blanket I had in the car on it before we could sit on it. We could not get tv or internet service. There was a hole in the wall behind the couch that they attempted to camaflage by hanging a curtain over it. Lighting was very poor through out the unit. We had booked for two nights and strongly considered going else where the second night...instead we just spend as much time as possible away from this place
On the positive side...the bed was comfortable and clean.
- Stéphane (8/5): Great place for a day or two. - Very good bed. Washing machine was defect but they changed it on request. Couch not confortable and tv smaller than stated in hotels.com's description. Description mentioned a full bathub and we got only a shower. Sticky floor in kitchen. Only one bath towel for two people... Cool security camera to always have a look at the parking. Well positioned easy access and possible to walk to downtown. Overall not bad but I expected more confort... Loved the auto checkout and the phone support.
- Karen P. (8/5): Clean and Rennovated - One bedroom flat had everything we needed. They even had our brand of coffee on hand. Note the prices are in US$ .. bit of a surprise since we booked from Ontario to a property in country, but it is a VRBO issue. Still would have paid more than double to stay in a hotel with fewer amenities. The owner's rep was available for minor issues.
- William (8/5): A Convenient Place to Stay in Fredericton - I reserved two units, one for my wife and me and the other for my sister, who was traveling with us. I was surprised to discover that the two units were several blocks apart. Other than that, the two units were both clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Noisy, fun down place - This is a vers old house by a busy street. It smelled moldy. Bedroom's window did not open. Washroom mat was Fifty.
- Carol (6/5): Small place close to the river - Stayed in the two bedroom apartment. It was definitely cozy, but clean. It was fine for a night and for the price, added bonus was being so close to the river.
- Kate (4/5): Not the same hotel as described - The hotel was not the same hotel that was described it the listing. It was also not the same hotel as in the pictures. When we arrived we were asked to go to a different hotel. It was not nearly as nice. There were bugs, the windows either didn't open or were missing screens or were held open by sticks. The place hadn't been cleaned well or vacuumed any time in the recent past. The bathroom was tiny. No care was taken to finish any of the house. Most of the house was go used where necessary bit in corners etc it would still be subfloor or unfinished.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Home Away From Home - Great Service & Convenient Location
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice quiet hotel and felt like home. - We had a lovely experience at this hotel. The only thing that made a few things complicated is the internet was down and we used up all our data on our phones to get a hold of people we needed to connect with for our trip. Grounds where clean, rooms where lovely. Love the security in the building makes us feel safe. 4.9 from us from PEI! Thanks again!
CS
- chris (4/5): Wouldn't rebook - This was the upper portion of a 3 apt home. The doors on the bedroom and washroom didn't even close. The floor was not cleaned as well as I would have hoped but it was not a mess by any means. The bed was not comfortable and even putting a new mattress would have made a difference. The house is literally right on a major road and when the trucks stopped going by at 1 am or so we could find some sleep. For the price and the fact we were only sleeping there it did the trick but take some time and at least clean the pink stains off the bathroom floor.
- J (6/5): Great price but finishing touches need attention - We stayed at Building 720, Apartment #2. We really appreciated the spaciousness of the apartment and definitely made use of the kitchen to cook meals. There were plenty of pots & pans, dishes, cutlery, glasses, mugs, etc. The unit included air conditioning, which was much appreciated with the humid weather, and internet... though it periodically dropped the connection.
Unfortunately we never really felt like we could relax, as the apartment felt dirty. When I inspected for dirt, I realized that it had to do with the details. This house is an old character Home that has sustained many renovations over the years. The most current renovation didn't really involve attention to detail. Part of the paint job was a little sloppy in that it seemed like there were areas that were painted without being cleaned first. In other areas the paint wasn't edged well, so the wall paint leaked onto the ceiling. In the kitchen there was a corner where there was no flooring installed and it was left unfinished. In the bathroom, new waterlines were installed but they were strewn on top of the bathroom floor instead of installed behind the walls.
The couch was very comfortable but the cushions had holes in them. The carpets throughout the house were dirty and stained. The caulking job around the kitchen sink was about half an inch wide and looked like it was covering up an aging countertop vs nicely finishing off a job.
Not sure we'd stay here again but the location was just what we needed.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Do not book! - We showed up for our "booking" and nobody was there to let us in. No instructions were provided as to what to do when we arrived. We called the number provided about twenty times and knocked aimlessly on doors only to finally go book into another hotel in Fredericton. This business should not be allowed to operate as an accommodation sold by Expedia.
- Kim (8/5): Great Stay, Great Price - This was our second stay with WorkPlaySuite.com. This was a different location which was just as good as the first one. Our son graduated college this past week and it is a perfect stay for us so we can spend time with him and have family meals and not go out for every meal.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Apartment. Why stay in a hotel room? - Great place to stay. Comfortable apartment with full kitchen and laundry facilities. Easy checkin. Good parking. Easy access by car to downtown.
- The Design Guy (8/5): Relaxing - Pleasantly Relaxing
- Verified traveler (8/5): - On the road to Halifax this was a perfect stopover allowing us to arrive late, cook our own food, have a real home away from home stay with our dog. We were very impressed.
- jenny (2/5): Awful experience - Room I booked not available so offered a smaller one. I was ok with this prior to arriving. However, upon arrival the room was dirty (bed slept in and pizza boxes and beer cans in a heap by the door) The pull out couch was a love seat and not suitable to sleep on.
It was 7pm and -30 outside and I couldn't get hold of the owner so we had to leave and book into a hotel.
When I called Expedia on Monday to report this they said they couldn't give me a refund but will try to get the money back from the owner of the apartments. It is now Wed night and I have still heard nothing.
Not at all impressed with either Expedia or the work play suites.
- Jen M. (10/5): The suits were nice, a home away from home feel for us. Spacious and nicely renovated. - I have to admit the owner of the property was very exceptional at customer service.
First we needed a late check in (1-2am) and that was no issue. We did have trouble with noise upstairs which we contacted the owner about. Loud noises from the tentants through the evening into early morning (1-2am) This went on each night we stayed. Our vacation to Fredericton was to get away from our busy lives in Ontario and simply rest and enjoy each other's company. The owner did say he would speak to the tentants upstairs. I contacted the owner on the last day asking for a 2hr later checkout (1pm) to get some more rest before traveling and it was no issue at all. I'm very pleased with the way things were handled, which is why I am giving 5 stars for customer service. The parking was a bit difficult but that was mainly due to the amount of snow they received. And we managed to park, with lots of manuvering.
The apt had all things needed for cooking (we only cooked a small pizza) and we were also able to change the bed sheets around which I loved.
Everything was in working order and the location was just a quick drive over the bridge to downtown.
I hope the noise tones down, but I would recommend this location.
- Cees (10/5): Comfortable appartment in Fredericton, NB - Stayed for family visit over the weekend. This apartment offered all we needed and more. Not a single hotel can compete against this. The apartment has a full kitchen, spacious bedroom and bathroom. Everything needed is present. Just like at home, but tehn away from home :)
- Christopher (8/5): Partly satisfied - The practicality of the suites are great. Small kitchen and a sitting area with a TV make it functional for my type of travel. The location of the suites make it great as I can go for a walk along the river and relax.
There was a pile of old appliances at the front of the building which did not make it an inviting place. The steps and parking area had a large layer of ice on them.
I have used the Suites before and was happy. This time was not as good.
I was also frustrated that is advertised at a rate but was $20 higher before taxes. I prefer to have all things included in the price when I am searching for a room.
- Justin (6/5): Peace and Quiet? Not Here. - Apparently a family living above this suite with a penchant for goose-stepping back and forth across their floors and a five year old who doesn't go to bed till after midnight? I'll let you decide how serene my stay was...
- rw (4/5): Fair hotel at best. - Got charged for extra person after getting three bedroom apartment for three people. Hotel is nowhere near downtown Fredericton. Rooms and furnishings both shoddy and uncomfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay in Fredericton. - Had an amazing stay that far exceeded our expectations. Well stocked full kitchen, place was comfortably clean, good location. Will be coming back here our next time in Fredericton. Great bang for the buck.
- David (10/5): Better than a hotel - You get a complete apartment for less than the price of an average hotel. For anyone who prefers the comfort of being in a home-like environment this is the only choice. Having a full kitchen as well is a great feature both for the flexibility it offered with meals and the cost saving. Nicer, newer, and more aesthetically pleasing than any hotel I have stayed in.
- Christie (8/5): Great value - These apartments are like a home away from home. You get such a large space for the cost and the location is great. Rick is able to answer your call and provide fast service for any issues.
- Nauzer (8/5): Nice rooms - bit away from downtown - Great rooms, very clean. We had lots of room for the 4 people occupying the unit.
- Terri (10/5): Nice location, very clean and comfortable! - We stayed for 4 nights recently when we were moving to Fredericton and enjoyed our stay. Would recommend this place!
- Kim M (10/5): GREAT VALUE!!! - We decided to give the WorkPlaySuites.com a try as we wanted to have a kitchen to have a Thanksgiving celebration with our college student in Fredericton NB. This was perfect!!! The apartment was 3 bedrooms with a full kitchen. The apartment was clean and spacious. All beds were comfortable. The owner, Rick, was very accommodating to make sure we had what was needed to cook our meal. We will be back in May for our son's graduation!!!
- Billy Bob (8/5): Work Play Suites - Great Value for Fredericton - Large and well finished suite in Fredericton and good value for short to medium term stays. Well decorated, excellent internet, and TV and well stocked including dishes, microwave, dishwasher, security system and even a large deck and BBQ. Automated check-in worked fantastic and saved a lot of time especially with my late arrival.
- Lorraine G. (8/5): Clean, Comfortable, Affordable Suite - The suite was all we needed. It was clean, comfortable and very affordable.
- Danylo (10/5): Close to Vonv Centre lots of space great value! - Super place at a super price! Grest location and huge room to enjoy!
- YAN (10/5): - It's an apartment with everything you need, very comfortable and convenient for a Family trip or a group of people
- Torulv (10/5): - Very friendly owner will come back again amazing value for your money
- Verified traveler (2/5): Renter did not give us information until 11:00 pm. - I called our landlord for this facility several times, no answer and a full message box. Then at 10:45 at night I receive an email with details of our stay and room code. I stopped at a few of the apts located in the building, all of the renters said, good luck. He was impossible to get a hold of. Absolutely furious. Had to book another hotel last minute, and of course paid for both.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Pleasant stay for two nights. Close to downtown and shopping for staples.
- Serge (10/5): - In front of the Miramichi river, a very spacius apt. Evry thng was clean and easy to handel.
We highly recommend that suite # 1@ for Frederikton!
- Bernadett (8/5): - This is our second stay, and we love to have the privacy of an apartment with the convenience of a full kitchen, as well as being right in town, at the same rates as a hotel/motel. The accomodations are clean and nice, and the owner and property manager are responsive to any questions or issues.
- Serge (8/5): I will not recommend this place - Was not happy with my reservation...they should put a picture on the website of their location instead of an aerial photo of the bridge.
- Laura (10/5): - Pleasantly surprised. Very comfortable and clean.
- esqmom (2/5): couldnt check-in! - Nobody picked up the phone or was at the address and we couldn't check in. We were there during regular business hours. Expedia couldn't reach them either. We had to find another hotel because my son was freaking out and we couldn't wait for Expedia to re-book. Really horrible horrible experience.
