• Moonagedaydream2 (10/5): Enjoyed this stay - This was such a convenient and quaint stay. I loved every second of it. It’s right next to Black Cap Coffee and walking distance of restaurants and Shaw’s General Store. There’s a restaurant, Butler’s Pantry, right at the front of the building. They serve breakfast and dinner. I went for breakfast, I got French toast and sausage and it was delicious. The service was great. I stayed in Zoe’s Loft. I didn’t really hear any noise from the kitchen, like other reviews stated, but I could hear the church bells. The room was clean, there’s a kitchenette and a bathroom. You also have a designated parking spot. If you’re staying in Stowe, consider staying here.
• Jenny (10/5): - Max’s Roost was lovely! Clean, bright. It feels more like an AirBnB because there isn’t an in-person reception, but the communication was good and effective. There is a nice organized binder in the room to answer any questions you might have. My only warning is the bedframe is VERY creaky. If you turn over, it’s going to creak—very loudly. It’s alarming. Otherwise, it’s comfortable. At the restaurant below (which we highly recommend), some sort of mechanical noises started somewhere between 5-6am—guessing they were prepping for their delicious breakfast service. So, to do it over again, I would have put in earplugs. Would recommend for sure though-great location.

The amenities in the apartment were nice, including a full kitchen, comfortable bed, and sitting room. We would recommend this place wholeheartedly!
• heathermX2131MM (8/5): We enjoyed our stay but not sure we would stay here again - Overally, my husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Butler House. The area is beautiful. There were a couple minor issues that we wanted to address. We stayed in the Murphy Bedroom. The remote to the tv did not work at all and I don't think it was a battery issue. The room needs a new remote. The docking station that was supposed to be convenient did not work either. Thankfully, we brought our own chargers. Also, the vent in the bathroom shower curtain rod were extremely rusted. An inexpensive purchase to replace these items would go a long way. Lastly, you could hear a lot of noise from the room. It began at 6:30 am. I'm assuming it was the kitchen staff getting ready for breakfast but the noise was extremely loud for a solid hour. It woke us up and we even had a noise machine with us which was turned up to full volume. It is not a good place to stay if you want to sleep in. The street noise was also loud but tolerable.
• Wendy (10/5): - This is an absolutely beautiful property. We had the Murphy bed room and I was worried it might be on the small side. It was not at all. We had plenty of room. The bed was very comfortable too very comfortable chairs to sit in a little kitchenette a good size bathroom it was beautifully set up and clean. The restaurant was delicious. Everything about this place. It was superb. Highly recommend.
• Itsmarkandmosi (10/5): Multiple stays, and always worth it! - I’ve been vacationing in Stowe for 20 years now, and the last 4 I’ve stayed at Butler House. Hands down, a great experience! I stayed twice in the Murphy Bed Suite, and twice in Sarah’s Suite - I like the extra room. The rooms were immaculate and well-stocked, and were exactly as advertised. Killer location, within walking distance of everything in downtown Stowe, and directly across from the Stowe Recreation Path. There’s dedicated parking for each room, which is a plus, as on-street parking can be at a premium. Check-in was a breeze, with keypads rather than key locks or card access. I also highly recommend Butler’s Pantry for breakfast! Food service is competitive in Stowe, and they hold up very well. I’ll return next year, for sure!

Upon entering it smells moldy and has a moldy rug. The outside has wood porches that have wood that has been eaten away by weather. The room is old, appeared clean but with a smell. The manager, Paul, has no person Thank goodness, Expedia is backing us up on this with the photos that we provided.

• K7542BPjenniferd (10/5): Perfect Place For A Week in Vermont - My tween daughter and I stayed at Butler House for a week while we explored Stowe and other nearby parts of Vermont. We were originally only booked for 3 nights but loved the property and location so much that we extended our stay for a whole week. When initially reading reviews I noticed some that mention the noisy area and / or traffic. Coming from Houston I would say that it is relative - it seemed blissfully quiet to us, and the "hustle and bustle" of Main Street was really enjoyable. There were even evenings featuring live music and local artists during our stay. We were in the Murphy Bed suite and then moved to Zoe's Loft during the week, both were just the right size for two people and my daughter loved the murphy bed and loft elements. Perfect sized kitchen areas with everything you might need. The owners are so helpful and responsive. We can't wait to come back someday.

The bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, the end is located on Main Street in Historic Stowe. Traffic was heavy and it was very noisy. Additionally the shades did not keep the light from the street lamps out of our room.

For our purposes we could walk to where we wanted without a lot of organizing and fanfare. If you want tovenjoy The Butler's Pantry restaurant below make sure to check their work hours and days open. We missed those and will definitely return again to try it out. We stayed in the studio with the murphy bed; spacious, convenient with everything we needed to make a meal there!
• itslaurney (10/5): Perfect - Stayed in Sarah's suite with my husband and 6 month old. It was perfect, exactly what we were looking for. Fireplace really works and gets warm which was nice and cozy during the rainy evening. Right on main street which is great for easy walking to shops and restaurants but was a little noisy at night. Hardwood floors, super comfy bed, nice hot shower and shower and water pressure, beautiful decorated, kitchen to cook in, coffee and half n half, Netflix and Amazon prime. Loved that check in was super easy and butlers pantry for breakfast was fantastic. I hope to stay here again in the future... easily one of the top 3 best hotels I've ever stayed at.

• Nate080411 (8/5): Vintage home well converted into quant inn - We recently came here for a weekend and really enjoyed staying at the Butler House. We had one of their larger spaces so we had a fireplace and kitchen in our room, and it was just what we had been looking for. We were able to spread out and enjoy lounging in the room before going out for the day. It is well located right in the middle of the town so you can walk around the nice downtown after going out for the day. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was as clean as you could ask for. The downtown is lively, well more lively than I expected, so you will probably hear a bit of the town (really it was more in the morning than at night). I would highly recommend staying here and would come back here as a place to stay no doubt.

So perfectly located in the cute Stowe downtown area with shops, and only a 10 minute drive to the mountain. The room is very spacious and always very clean!

• ricksteveswannabe_11 (10/5): nice stay in Zoe's loft - Wonderful stay at the Butler House! We crammed in 3 adults in Zoe's Loft, but it worked fine. the main 2 person bed is in the pull out couch, and there is a double mattress about 4 feet up a short ladder in the "Loft". There was a little kitchenette which was nice, full amenities in the bathroom and Kitchen, however the shower was a little tight, being inside a small hanging curtain in the raised tub. The location was awesome, great communication with the owner, noise was never really a problem, even though on the busy side street. Parking in back was never an issue, they try to block it off for Inn guests only. Make sure you go down stairs at least a 1/2 hour early to get in line for the awesome breakfast at Butlers Pantry - the line was always out the door to the sidewalk! Unfortunately you don't get reserved seating, but you do get a 20% discount.

• ztlsgal (10/5): Comfortable and relaxing - We loved this casual, comfortable Inn. We stayed in Orion’s room. It was perfect for traveling with our son and his wife. Private bedrooms and one bath worked fine. We played games in the living room and had a full kitchen for snacks and drinks. 3 nights was perfect for a summer stay in Stowe. Convenient to the trails and all of the downtown conveniences. We will be back for another stay.

It's right in the heart of town, clean, cute, reasonably priced, and has a breakfast resturant attached. If you are mobility challenged keep looking. Parking is in the rear. I asked for help from other guests who said no and would not let me in the back door. Steps up to the front door are met with no place to sit in the entry way to rest. NO ONE WORKS THERE. THERE IS NO CLERK ON DUTY. Your key us hanging on the wall, and a flight of steep stairs confronts you. Again, no chair at the top of the stairs to rest, just more steps down to the room. Zero thought has been given to seniors, or handicapped. Trying to manage all of this with luggage was such a challenge, I canceled my plans for the next day and stayed hidden in my room reading. Every door that shuts vibrates the walls, and slams loud. Upon exit, I phoned for help with my luggage on the steep steps. NOPE! SORRY. NO ONE IS ON LOCATION. THIS IS NOT A Senior Friendly Location, or HANDICAPPED LOCATION. HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH IT?
• Jenny (10/5): Amazing place - Amazing place!!! Right in the heart of the cutest town! Loved Sarah’s Suite with the kitchenette and fireplace. It was the perfect spot to celebrate our 20th anniversary.
• luvtravel88 (6/5): An Average Experience - I want to do a fair review here. There were pros and cons to staying in this establishment. You need to decide what is important to you, to be happy staying here. First, it's not a hotel. It's in a house with 7 rooms. It's not a B&B as breakfast is not included. There is no front desk, no one to greet you, no proprietor to see if you need anything or ask you how your stay is going. When you make your reservation, they require 1 night's deposit and they charge your card a couple of days before your arrival for the balance. The Pros: The House is on the Main drag and there are a couple of blocks of little shops, restaurants, coffee shops and bars within an easy walk. There is a breakfast restaurant on the first floor, but it's open to the public and is very busy. The check in process was easy and directions were sent by email before our arrival of what we needed to do to get into our room. There is dedicated parking for the guests. Our room, Max's Roost, was a one bedroom furnished apartment, with hardwood floors, a full kitchen. The bath towels were thick and fluffy The mattress was comfortable The Cons: There is no guest relations of any kind. Everything in the apartment is bare bones. I understand the need for this because they don't want people to steal from them, but the bathroom amenities are a joke. The shampoo is like water and doesn't lather. There is no conditioner, no body lotion, no make up wipes, no q-tips, etc... There were two rolls of toilet paper left, which was fine for us, but what happens if you are there longer. Be careful when you use the toilet paper. The set screw is missing so every time you pull the toilet paper the whole holder lands on the floor. The air conditioner is only in the living room/kitchen, so it has to be very cold in there to allow the cool back into the bedroom so sleeping is comfortable. I did notice baseboard heating in the bedroom, bathroom and living areas, so if you're there in the winter, heating the apartment may not be an issue. The rest of the furniture in the apartment was fine, just serviceable. There are no curtains anywhere in the apartment, so if you want to sleep in, bring an eye cover. The house was noisy. We could hear people talking all around us. I think overall, for an average of $330 a night, we just expected a bit more.

• David (6/5): - Property is centrally located on Main Street in Stowe but offers very few amenities. No daily housekeeping and no staff on site. Good if you are an early riser as the first floor is a breakfast restaurant and noisy. Not so much if you sleep past 7am.

• CrystalW455 (8/5): Great Location if You Really Like Breakfast - There are many things to love about the Butler House: Location is fantastic Big, bright yet cozy room Kitchen with fridge, plates, dishes, etc. Views of the church across the street Great towels Laundry and ski storage onsite Blinds that can open from the top for privacy and light blocking curtains Easy check in Great communication Keurig with Green Mountain coffee But there is an issue that may impact whether you want to choose the Parlor Suite: Your door is located in the waiting area for the extremely popular breakfast restaurant, The Butler's Pantry. This was not noted in any description when we booked the room. The restaurant is fantastic so we definitely recommend eating there during your stay, but the amount of noise and commotion right outside your room is unbelievable. If you plan on getting up early, this won't be an issue at all. If you plan on a relaxing morning sleeping in late, forget about it. Also, the shower was barely warm and had low water pressure - I'm not sure if this was related to the restaurant or some other issue. For winter guests it should also be noted that there is no central heat in this room and the fireplace is decorative. They do provide a space heater. Complimentary parking is in the rear and the door to access the room is in the front, up a few steps. Overall, it's a lovely place to stay and the owners are great. I just wanted to point out some things that aren't obvious from the listing to help you make an informed choice.

Had it been a little softer it would have been a perfect score for the stay. All in all, it was a very nice place and a great location!

The tv with its 2 remotes was hard to work even with directions provided in the guest book. Never got the regular Chanel’s working. I’d book a 2nd floor room over the main floor that we were on because the creeping from people walking above us was making it difficult to fall asleep.

• dajwaj (10/5): Second stay this winter for ski trip to Stowe. - I spent 2 nts there this wk and a month ago in same Murphy Bed room. Last time one friend stayed in Zoe's Loft also, this time 2 other couples stayed at Butler House too. Everyone thought the accommodations were great. Very clean (even hallways), comfortable beds, perfect efficiency for prepping breakfast in and bringing food/beverages. We ate dinners out. All said they would stay there again. Other rooms had fireplaces and couches for comfortable space. I've never seen such quick response from an owner, when I reported one room had some appliance issues. He sent someone w replacements and fix within an hr! Thank you Paul. Great location in the middle of Main St. Can walk to shops, restaurants if open, wine/beer stores, and only 8 miles to the mtn. Easy check in out, with pertinent information provided in advance.

• DianaM (8/5): - The Parlour at the Butler House was perfect as far as location with a direct view as we are in front of the church. Loved being able to walk to restaurants and shops all within two blocks. It’s great space with comfortable sitting area super clean and kitchenette with microwave small fridge, sink and dish ware for when doing take out, having a bottle of wine or cup of coffee. The Breakfast place is closed due to COVID so one must go to the Whip if you want a proper breakfast. The only complain we had was the horrible smell of kitchen grease that permeated everything. I emailed the owner but never got a response. We ended up buying some small fragrance candles and pine incense at the general store which cover the smell. Windows are drafty but they gave us a nice duvet. And after our third day figured out how to use the heater as they left no instructions. Check in no one was there we were told where we would find them and we did self check in and out as never saw proprietor. Overall I recommend this place as it ticks all the boxes and if the smell bothers you the general store has what you need.
• L5H (8/5): Convenient location. Well equipped apartment - We spent 2 nights at the Butler. Overall we enjoyed our staying. We loved the location, right on Main street, with many businesses right outside the door! Our apartment, the Butler, is quite spacious and well equipped. It faces the back of the property, that is the parking, but the plus of it is that you are away from the noise of Main street. However the room is located above the restaurant. So to avoid early morning noise, best to have some earbuds available. We like firm beds, and the butler room's bed is probably more on the soft side, maybe just dated. Overall we would recommend it.

• Gina (10/5): Charming Guest House in a Great Location - Charming guest house right on Main Street close to all shops, restaurants, etc. My room was spotless, decorated nicely, and felt very cozy. Loved the exposed brick and wood floors, ample closet space, and a Keurig for your morning coffee. Make sure you walk across the street and take a stroll through the lovely Stowe Recreation Path behind the church.

• Luke (10/5): Ready to rebook for next year - Very happy with the location and meal. It’s nice being in the middle town allowing for walks after eating. The maple sausage were fully cook & moist. The blue pancakes were excellent you could actually taste the berries, which were large and fresh. The Eggs Benedict were worth the order. The Pantry is the kind of place that makes you want to order your way down the menu.

The original wood flooring has the cute creeks that I love. The high ceilings add such a great feel to the gorgeous room. To wrap it all up, today is September 11th, the church across the street has been ringing it’s bell for a full minute on each time in remembrance of our lost loved ones. Highly recommend this place. The town is quant.

Our room, Parlor Suite, was bigger than we anticipated and a reasonably well stocked kitchenette to allow for some in-room eating. Charming old hotel in a great location. If you want pools and game rooms, this isn’t the place. But if you want a quaint clean charming historic building hotel in downtown Stowe its a perfect place.
• 837jerryw (10/5): Perfection on Main Street in Stowe - Could not have been nicer ....or better. Modern elegance in historic inn. Centrally located at the end of the bike path with everything in downtown Stowe walkable within a minute. Innkeeper is great guy who endures you have everything you need chic full of local knowledge. You can bring your own drinks and sit out front under umbrellas to watch all of scenic Stowe pass by in front of you. This is where YOU should stay.

• ChezAmber (10/5): Charming mini-apartments with kitchen in a well-maintained inn - My husband and I stayed in Sarah's Suite for a 3-day ski trip in Stowe. The suite was well-designed, cozy, and included a kitchen which provided all the utensils, dishes, and cookware we needed to "eat in" after long days on the slopes. (We brought our own food and planned simple meals that could be managed with two burners and a small oven.) Had we wanted to socialize with fellow travelers we could have--we heard the lively sounds at breakfast downstairs--but we preferred to live as hermits and couldn't have been happier. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom spacious, there was a gas fireplace (great for drying out wet ski clothes) and it was wonderfully quiet (except for one early morning torture session of beeping trucks removing snow underneath our windows.) Two tiny suggestions for improvement: 1) the wifi network was flagged as "insecure" by our laptop, so we avoided doing any banking or other online business, and 2) our attempts to watch NH Primary coverage on their cable TV required nearly half an hour of trial and error, pushing buttons on the TWO circa 1990s remotes and poring through a lengthy page of instructions in the room handbook. I think our innkeepers could upgrade their wifi, cut the cable cord and switch to streaming, and save themselves some money in the process. But those were minor inconveniences in an otherwise ideal stay.

• NorthStar821921 (10/5): Better than expected! - Stayed in the Lounge Room which is on the first floor facing the church across the street. The room was much cleaner, larger, and nicer than it appears online (apparently brown walls due not photograph well). The room was also quiet; you could not even tell a breakfast restaurant was open and running on the same floor. We booked the room because it was one of the few place in Stowe that would do just one night; however, after our experience we wished we stayed there longer.
• dcerun (10/5): A little gem - I'm so glad my fiance found this place. It's only open for breakfast, but people were lining up before it opened at 8 a.m. I had the biscuits and gravy with an egg on top. My fiance had the full breakfast with bacon. We'll definitely eat there on our next trip.

Positives: well equipped efficiency unit(about as good as you’ll find); good bed; nice shower, plenty of hot water; very nice fireplace providing a good deal of warmth in the large unit; beautiful view of Stowe Main Street from the room; right across from bus stop for Stowe Mountain shuttle; awesome breakfast at Butler’s Pantry downstairs(discounted for staying); walking access to many very nice restaurants in village. Negatives: none.
• Brian (10/5): Felt like home! - My wife and I could not have been happier, with our first visit to the Butler House! Paul is a wonderful host! The room was immaculate, and cozy as could be! We would not hesitate to return. Also, the breakfast at The Butlers Pantry, downstairs, was one of the best we’ve ever had! Don’t hesitate to consider the Butler House, the next time you’re in Stowe! You’ll be happy you did!
