Guest Reviews
- Mary (10/5): - This is a lovely and well run guesthouse. Carol made me feel very welcome and taken care of. Thanks
- Linda (10/5): - Welcoming and helpful
On arrival 👍
- Stephen (10/5): Definitely Executive Level - Fabulous place, room very well equipped, linen, towels etc all top quality. Well stocked tea tray, good chair so i could do some work in comfort at the desk/dressing table. Secure parking too. 10 minute walk into town centre. Not a place for the general contractors. Have stayed before and will stay again when working in the area.
- Louise (8/5): - Ground floor clean & comfortable with off street parking.
- David (8/5): Very nice place to stay - Nice clean room in a very good condition. Only minor gripe is that I couldn’t get any hot water for a shower in the morning. A pub offering food, including a carvery, is just a few hundred metres walk away.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Comfy bed but WiFi poor TV poor no heating until morning hazardous beams in bedroom
- Rachel (10/5): Day at the races - Very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area.
- Christopher (10/5): Blown away! - Totally exceeded my expectations. The rooms are a good size and very well appointed. I've stayed in far worse 5 star hotels before. The bed was so confortable that I missed it when I got back into my own bed.... that never happens normally.
The staff are extremely helpful and friendly.
The off street secure parking is also a welcome bonus.
Definitely recommended if staying in the area.
- Dean (8/5): Practical Stay - The stay was suitable for location to the Pontefract squash club and restaurants. A bit a stair climb to our room and parking was an a bit congested.
- Lindsey (10/5): Perfect one night stop - The staff were friendly and very helpful. The facilities were immaculate. The breakfast was perfect. I honestly can’t find any faults. I only stayed the one evening, but would happily stay again.
- Emlyn (10/5): Tower house - Room was very clean and comfortable bed to sleep. Some road noise but the road was just outside the window so you expect that. Carol was very pleasant and helpful on booking in.
Nice walk to a local for food which was huge.
Would recommend for everyone
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely accomodation. Great location. Friendly staff. Great breakfast.
- Harvey (8/5): Very Good - Great service, lovely room. Would recommend.
- Helen (8/5): - I notified the manager a few days earlier that i would be arriving quite late, the manager left instructions of where to park and how to get into the accommodate and room. Which was very helpful. Didnt have issues getting inside.
I was meant to have a breakfast request slip, but this was missing so i emailed the manager and she rung me up just to confirm a few things with me about breakfast (times etc).
Breakfast itself was lovely, i opted for the smoked salmon and scambled eggs. Just enough to start the morning off. The staff were all kind and helpful.
The room itself was was clean and warm. I turned the plug- in air freshner off as it was alittle too strong for me. Coffee, tea and water available in the room. The room itself faced onto the main road. I personally found it abit hard to sleep to being with (i live on a side road at the back of the house, so never hear any traffic) but i popped in my earplugs in and couldnt hear anything and dropped off to sleep fine. Room was warm enough as it was quite frosty outside.
- Ken (8/5): - Clean and convenient with good excellent breakfast.
- Colin (8/5): Very Satisfied - Superb overall. The only negative for me was the noise from the traffic which starts early morning as I was allocated a front room and I'm a light sleeper and a late starter on this occasion. The service, breakfast and the standard of the room were however all of an excellent standard and would definitely consider staying again.
- David (6/5): Below average - Very small angled room due to being in the loft. Way to small. Break fast wasn't worth ÂŁ5 But it was ok. Bed was comfy and the cook set off the fire alarm early hrs so that's wasn't good. Safe to be sorry I suppose. For the price I wouldn't stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pontefract Gem - Lovely welcome, excellent recommendations for where to eat in the evenings, excellent breakfast. Well presented room.
Our room overlooked a busy road which on cooler nights is not a problem as double glazing is excellent but on a warm humid night as we had was difficult. Fan in room helped a lot on second night as did ear plugs. Room is very pretty and well presented. We found the double bed small - especially will my husband being 6 for tall, but it was comfortable.
- Kevin (8/5): - Very surprised at this hotel from what I was expecting to what I found inside, very understated from the outside and the hall way up to my room but once in my room very nicely decorated and plenty of room inside which let me feel at home, the landlady was very helpful and knowledge able about the area and pointed out a local pub that served great food within walking distance. Definitely a place I will consider staying here again if in the area.
- Eugen (10/5): Enjoyable stay! - Excellent, friendly host and great food
- GM (10/5): Excellent hotel with homely comforts - The hotel and hostess provided us excellent comfort and a home away from home experience. Wonderful breakfast.
- Steve (10/5): Like a boutique hotel - I use this guest house when in the area on business. Their standards overall are very high and would put many hotels to shame. Only drawback is traffic noise from the road outside - not a problem in winter but might trouble some in summer with windows open. Breakfast is excellent.
- Imran (6/5): Good service not so good bathroom - I had a good stay at this guest house very friendly staff, lovely breakfast and a nicely kitted out room.
The not so good bits i couldn't check in till after 5 and i found this out after i had booked and paid.
The bed was a more of a home use bed and not a good solid hotel bed.
lastly the bathroom unfortunately had little silver fish crawling around everywhere in between the cracked grout and in the shower as you can imagine this wasn't the most pleasant thing to see but I was there for one night only.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone or at least not till they have sorted out the bathroom and the 5 o clock check in.
- Andy (10/5): Very good - Nice clean friendly hotel. Excellent breakfast. Perfect for a stay in Pontefract
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very obliging owner. - we needed to park our vehicles, register and offload our luggage ahead of the normal registration time and Carol facilitated this for us.
Apartments and 'common' areas were immaculate - our only criticism would be the small shower cubicles.
- Kerri (8/5): - Came up for a wedding. Stayed in the Executive Suite which was well worth the price. The room was clean, was a special bonus to have an actual four poster bed, and the bathroom was stunning with the massive tub. Was useful that the ironing board and iron came in the room as well so we did not have to worry about running around the next day to find one. Breakfast was excellent and really kept us going all day which was nice. Good to have available parking. Staff were wonderful, friendly and really helpful when needed.
- Carina (8/5): Good standard not 5 star - Overall a good property, breakfast was lovely however I am not sure it warrants a 5 star rating. The property is gated with a sign 'shut the gate as dog roaming' not expecting this from a 5 star location, I drove past the entrance several times before calling to confirm. No fridge in the room, no help with baggage up with flights of stairs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful place and great breakfast!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic - Very lovely owners.
- helen (10/5): - Super friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Eager to please. They have thought of everything - and offer before you even ask.
- Rose (10/5): The breakfast was first class. - So far so good.the bathroom was spotless and it's setting was fantastic. The bedroom was very beautiful. The only one thing the bedroom needs is a small fridge for a guest house like that. Just to keep that 5 star standard.
- JD (10/5): Good place to stay - Good location - for us, on the way to Whitby. Cheap clean accommodation. Walking distance to Pontefract.
- Gary (10/5): - I was working that evening until 8:30 so didn't really experience the hotel, other than breakfast was very good.
- Ian (10/5): The best guesthouse - The best guesthouse I have stayed in. The room was a very high standard. There was a towel robe, and all facilities you could want. Breakfast was the best I have had. Definitely will stay here again when I am in the area.
- Ann -Marie (10/5): A very nice hotel and a lovely room - There were lots of little extras that enhanced the stay. Loved the pontefract cakes.
- Neil (10/5): Far Better Than Expected, top quality - Surprised at just how good a Guest House can be. The standard I want all guest house to be. Breakfast was outstanding & presented fantastically
- Wayne (10/5): Superb Guest House - First time visit to Pontefract having been working locally. Fantastic stay and will definitely be visiting again in future. Thanks again
- Verified traveler (10/5): perfect location for Pontefract Race course - A warm welcome from staff and the room was spotless and well equipped. A generous and delicious breakfast
- Christian (10/5): Very nice hotel - clean and confortable - I stayed for one night on a business trip. Friendly reception from what I could understand is a family business. Great wifi, nice breakfast so the overall positive. Very clean room which is always a big plus.
What could be improved: the heater in the bathroom has been turned down because of one customer complaining it was too hot so I ended up not having the heating system turned on.
- REZA (10/5): nice and very very clean - it was fantastic very good place nice staff and very caring it was good stay
- Barry (10/5): Eleven out of Ten. - Splendid service. Excellent food. Very comfy bed. Smart room. Good shower. Friendly people.
- Manish (10/5): Big guns could learn from Tower House - The big guns should learn from Tower House. This was, without doubt, one of the cleanest, friendliest and cutest place I have ever stayed in. Impeccable in everyway; rooms are beautiful, clean and full of character. The venue is well laid out, clean and elegant yet homely. The breakfast..I want some more please! The staff, fantastic...so helpful and accomodating (we needed a very late check-in and they made it happen without fuss). BRILLIANT!
- Verified traveler (10/5): All you need - Very enjoyable. Remember check in isn't normally until 17:00 though
- Paul (10/5): High Quality Accomodation - Efficiently run family bed & breakfast. Décor and layout of high standard including beautifully prepared breakfasts from local produce which would rival more expensive hotel operations.
- Michael (10/5): My stay - All fine
- Andrew (10/5): Great Hotel - Booked last minute as a job ran over and was very impressed. Good to know of its whereabouts as would use again if in the same area.
- Sadie (10/5): Great hotel stay 5* - my husband and I stayed at this hotel last weekend and we so felt welcomed and enjoyed our stay. We had friendly polite staff and a guaranteed five star service. The local pub also was inviting and served first class food, we will be sure to stay at this hotel again, thank you
- Frances (10/5): What's not to like? - Visited Pontefract to go to the races. Guest house is about a mile out of town, uphill out and downhill back. We walked to very good Indian restaurant in the evening Padma. It is a very well appointed and maintained old house with exclusive parking at the rear. We received a very warm Yorkshire welcome and spent one night in a very comfortable bed and ate an excellent breakfast in the morning.
- Jennifer (10/5): Can't recommend enough!!! - We stayed here while visiting family in the surrounding area and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it actually was. All staff are lovely and very helpful. I had a bath/shower in my room that had nice pressure and there was always hot water, the bed was so comfy I almost didn't want to get up for breakfast. I'm glad I did because that was by far the nicest breakfast I've ever had and I truly mean that. Thank you for such a lovely stay!!
- James (10/5): best I have stayed in for a long time - Excellent stay. The couple who run guest house were lovely and was shown to a down stairs room
