Guest Reviews
- Steve (6/5): - The breakfast was good except for the sausage. The staff was friendly and the room appeared clean except for the strong smell of animal. I had a hard time sleeping because I could feel all the Springs in the bed due to the mattress being old and I made the staff aware of it the next morning.
- Terri (8/5): - Room was quiet and clean. A/C good and shower great pressure. Beds were ok-little hard and covers thin. Breakfast cold items-usual-waffle good. Sausage and eggs both looked microwaved. Front desk was excellent but hard to understand.
- Tom (8/5): - It was ok
- Bruce (8/5): - not at this time
- Donald (8/5): - The property was clean very quiet
- Verified traveler (4/5): Beware bed bugs!!! - Had 2 rooms. Found bed bugs in the cheap bedroom the next morning after everything was contaminated. The more expensive of the two rooms was wonderful and clean, but the second room had bedbugs and you could tell it it had not been thoroughly cleaned.
- Roxann (8/5): - Everything is fine it just smelled bad.
- Samantha (2/5): - The room I was checked into was still dirty! There was food wrappers still on the side table, all there surfaces were dirty and sticky! The carpet was gross and sticky. The hallways were filthy like they haven’t been vacuumed in a long time. The vending machines were empty.
- David (6/5): - No coffee for breakfast. All I need is a cup of coffee, but they were out. Maybe I was too late.
- Denise (10/5): - Not expensive
- Kay (10/5): - Room was very comfortable
- Julie (4/5): Musty room - The room was clean but extremely musty.
- corey (6/5): - Nice location, very limited breakfast items
- Rachael (8/5): - Easy place to stay, clean and comfortable
- Philip (8/5): - The hotel was very good
- lauriek44 (10/5): Very nice. Good deal. - It's not the fanciest hotel, but we like this one a lot. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are nice. Clean. It's quiet. Breakfast was ok. This was our second stay here. We are happy with everything. A very good restaurant is in walking distance. We will stay again when in Iowa.
- Diane (10/5): - Nice little motel next to a nice restaurant. For the price point it was sufficient and quiet. The staff was friendly. Will stay there again if we are in Carroll.
One note - the sign advertises "hot breakfast" with pictures of eggs and sausages. You need to tell the front desk that you want the hot breakfast ahead of time, or only a continental one will be available. The staff told me not enough people eat the hot food and it goes to waste at great expense, so they are now serving it upon request.
- Joey (6/5): - Clean rooms but the hallways smelled of body odor and the closer you got to the front desk you could smell animal urine.
- Kassady (8/5): - Easy check in.
- ROBERT (6/5): - It was all fine. The breakfast "buffet" really had a lot to be desired. But the room was nice for the price we paid.
- Mike (8/5): - Great place managed and ran by honest hard working people
- Marc (10/5): - Would stay again
- Danisha (8/5): - A great room for the price! I would stay here again.
- Carla (10/5): - This property has seen better days. That being said, the people at the front desk were nice. The room looked nice, but had a strong odor like old urine mixed with must/mold. They had a plug-in air freshener in the room that didn’t help. Kind of just made the odor worse.
The sheets and towels were clean. Mattress good. Nice sized TV.
For breakfast there was a waffle machine, four mini cinnamon buns, bread, cereal, and jugs of milk and coffee set out. Also four sausages and some powdered eggs in the steam table when the breakfast room opened.
Pretty much what I expected for the price, except that odor in the room and throughout the hotel were a game-changer for me to come back again. Not sure if the smell is fixable, but if it isn’t,much business will be lost.
- Craig (10/5): - This is a great place to stay. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The breakfast was pretty good as well. The only suggestion I would make, is to upgrade the table lamps so that you have easier access to plug your wireless devices into. An awesome place and you can’t beat the price.
- Ronna (10/5): - Had a great stay while there for state Baseball. Very close to ball field. Rooms were very clean. Only suggestion to have a coffee maker in room.
- Jerry (10/5): A Real Gem! - An amazing small independent hotel! The entire hotel was beautiful, perfectly clean....not a dirty spot to be found anywhere! It was quiet with terrific guest service, even though we did not arrive until 1:30am. Breakfast was far beyond expectations with eggs, sausage, and even make your own waffles, plus other continental items. When we come for family reunions, this will be our place!
- Wanda (10/5): - We really enjoyed the excellent restaurant that was right next door. That is always desirable when choosing a motel
- Lesly (6/5): - Bad smell in the room
- Greg (8/5): - Much better than expected. Staff was great. They allowed pets so was my only choice.
- Stan (10/5): - This is a great property. We will stay here again. Clean , comfortable and a friendly staff. There of a great bar/restaurant right next door!
- Aaron (6/5): - Several room features were in a state of disrepair.
- Matthew (10/5): - Very nice and clean place
- Paula (10/5): - One night stay at Burke Inn. The room was spacious and accommodating to our needs for the night. The stair ways needed a good vacuuming, the breakfast room was dark.
No elevator.
- William (10/5): - This was a great value
- Aaron (4/5): - It's fine. Basically the only place that takes dogs, which is why we booked. Booked a room online and then was told on arrival that we couldn't have a dog in that room, so we moved to a more basic room that allowed dogs. However, we were up-charged for the basic room, which we could've booked cheaper through Expedia had we known our originally-booked room wasn't dog-friendly. A dog cleaning fee was added, which was also not indicated anywhere until check in. They never changed the bedsheets or cleaned the room (or even dressed the bed), and only gave us fresh towels once in four days. That seemed a bit shoddy considering the extra $20 a day cleaning fee.
- timsN9714IV (2/5): Not ADA Complaint - Service Animals - Management asked for Service Animal Certification/Identification whereby law they’re not allowed to, when told that it’s a law by the ADA, Management tried to charge a deposit, whereby law they’re prohibited from doing so. Cancelled my reservation and went elsewhere where Management understand ADA procedures.
- Perry (4/5): - Room next to us all night through 5 a.m. occupied by people who sounded like they were throwing each other against the walls and furniture. Literally shook our room. No way staff didnt hear it, but chose to ignore.
- Angela (6/5): - Clean, comfortable. Old chair in our room. Outside room doors looked kinda beat up. No where to sit outside, ie bench.
- Omar (10/5): - Pretty good motel. Room was clean and so were the sheets. Will be staying here again.
- Kevin (6/5): - damp smell in room. Otherwise fine for age of building. Nothing fancy. Good breakfast with hot food.
- Janis (10/5): - I’ve stayed here numerous times and each time I’ve had a wonderful experience. Staff is polite, rooms are very clean, and it’s location is very convenient
- Debra (8/5): - Very nice hotel for the price. Clean. Friendly staff.
- Farrah (10/5): - Owners are very nice!
- BRANDY (8/5): Good for a cheap one night stay - Nice room for the price. Bed was comfortable but there was a damp feeling and musty smell in the room. Nice setup with mini fridge, microwave, recliner and table and chairs
- Jeremie (8/5): Good hotel. - Good hotel. Little hard to understand.
- Kevin (6/5): - This is a basic hotel with basic amenities. Two adults in the room and we had 2 towels, one hand towel, one wash cloth. Breakfast was provided but not well stocked. A few pieces of bread, 3 pieces of sausage, about a cup of scrambled eggs. We had what we needed but nothing extra. Basically clean but it’s an old facility and showing it’s age.
- lauriek44 (10/5): Perfect without the 2023 perks. - This hotel is not up to date with all the fancy perks of a high priced hotel. But it is a very nice hotel. Rooms are clean and very nice. Staff is helpful and friendly. Our room was perfect for our 4 night stay. I love that there's a door in the room that goes outside to where our car is parked right in front of the door. There is also a door going out to the hall in the building. No complaints at all. We will stay here again for sure.
- Jamie (10/5): OK for a night - OK for a night.
- Steven and Becky (8/5): - Nice motel
- Bobbie (6/5): - Was ok, older location, was what was expected. Check in took quite awhile, was unsure if desk clerk, owner, could find reservation.
- ronald (10/5): - Easy waljung access to restraunts
- Beth (10/5): Great place to stay. - I recommend this hotel, especially if you are traveling with pet. The rooms are a generous size and and super clean! The building is old and with a bit of a musty order but you can tell the owner is working on it; it was not over whelming. They even called me because I left a pillow! That was so kind. I really liked that was a door to the hall way and one to the outside with a parking place right in front of it. Breakfast in nice, coffee it really good.
- Daniel (8/5): - Good enough
- Kevin (8/5): - It was clean and room rates were good.
- Michael (8/5): - The adjacent bar crowd "was outside in the parking lot til after 2:23am in the morning."
- karla (8/5): Pleasant surprise - nice - Basic hotel but the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Ours had a nice size table and chairs as well as two recliners so we could enjoy the space and didn't have to sit on the bed to eat, watch TV etc. Only downside was the bar next door. There was a little traffic but nothing to complain about.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Okay for a short stay - The staff are pleasant and maid service was superb. The only problem was that the room had a smell that irritated my lungs. It may have been more than just our room. We were never sure what the smell was. My son thought it smelled like damp corn husks. To me it smelled like cleaning agents mixed with something else. It wasn't pleasant. It was also very humid in our room, and we couldn't figure out how to open the window, if it could be opened. We had a lot going on that weekend, so no time to address this with management.
- Jameson (10/5): - Very pleasant folks. Changed bedding DAILY without asking. Just polite people and I’ve enjoyed my stay. I’ve booked for another 4 weeks due to relocation.
- Peter (10/5): Great value stay! - Clean, privately owned hotel. Courteous and friendly owner. We get the presidential suite with the hot tub.
- Taylor (10/5): - I liked everything about the place. And I did not have a single complaint
- Amy (8/5): - The room was clean. There were plenty of towels and toilet articles. The breakfast wasn't great, but the coffee was good and hot. There was flavored cream and my mom enjoyed the hot chocolate. The shower took a bit to heat up, but worked very well. The bed was just a bit hard.
- KIMBERLY (8/5): - The room was clean and bed was comfortable. Staff was very friendly. I would stay again.
- Debra D (10/5): - the bed is very comfortable and the bedding is very nice.
- Verified traveler (2/5): BEWARE - This was the last place available for the night we were arriving in town, the reviews were good therefor we decided it would work. When we arrived there was an odd smell, not completely unbearable but definitely noticeable. We arrived around 3 am on New Years day. The lady was having a difficult time with the computers and check in took way longer than I have ever experienced. When we got to our room after roughly 30 min check in our keys did not work. After going back to the desk twice and them still not working she cane with a master key to let us in, informing us that our keys should work the next day... ok whatever i was to tired to care at this point. Unfortunately that wasnt even the worst part! Once we finally got into our room i checked the beds and there were BUGS. We immediately took our things back to the car and I went to let her know we would be leaving. She argued with me that they have no bugs and would put me in a different room. Finally she cake to the room with me so I could show her there are in fact bugs on the bed. After seeing them she again tried to put me in a different room rather than refund me. We ended up sleeping in our car for a couple hours until another hotel was able to accommodate us with an early check in.
- Daryl (10/5): - Quiet, sparsely habited the night we were there. Comfortable. Had everything needed for a stay at a reasonable price. Will DEFINATELY return.
- Kevin (8/5): - Great place quit
- Tina (10/5): - The property grounds were nice and clean rooms were very clean. The staff greeted you with a smile. The only downfall, there was no coffee maker in the room.
- Nancy (10/5): - Like that they have an area outside for grilling,
- V6474NUmichaels (10/5): awesome place to go - all staff here is respectful and understanding me and my fiancée have been staying here desperately trying to find apartment and the owner has been very understandable and helping this is an amazing clean place great prices
- Randy Paul (4/5): - I would recommend staying next door at Super 8.
- Mary (10/5): - Friendly staff, comfy beds nice location
- Joseph (4/5): Showing it's age. - Older hotel. Very loud room - the A/C cycling on and off was extremely loud, you could hear people walking upstairs all night, the water running in other rooms made a lot of noise.
Very poor access to electrical outlets to charge anything, and the one you could get to easily (by the sink) was completely worn out so cords wouldn't stay plugged in.
Very, very low shower head as well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nn
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A nice hotel. Older, but well maintained. Staff was friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The breakfast was nice. I also liked how it was right at the edge of town, but still close enough to where everything was still very close by.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Noisy neighbors (Bar-Grill-Gentleman’s Club) - I wouldn’t necessarily rate it as family friendly. As it is next door to a gentleman’s club that has an outdoor patio that faces the west side of the hotel. Which is where our Suite was located. I say Suite as in we paid quite a bit more for the three beds and more space. We probably would of been better off in a regular room on the other side of the hotel. We finally got to sleep after the loud people/music finally diminished at 2:30am.
- Trisha (8/5): - Room was clean and exactly as shown in the app. Outside of hotel and hallway is deceiving as room was comfortable and nice for the price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Tv was small noisy guests partying late at night in the parking lot
- Verified traveler (8/5): - walking distance for a nice meal
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I was very pleased with the ease of check in. The room was very clean. The bathroom was very clean but a little outdated. Bed was comfortable. Next morning went to breakfast and was greeted by staff and asked if there was anything more we would like bc it was close to closing time for the breakfast. I forgot my jacket when I left and was called to let me know it was still there before I got too far out of town. I appreciated the call very much! Staff was very accomodating and friendly.
- Kandace (10/5): - They were very nice! Place was simple but comfortable. The only issue was the garbage was not emptied at all during our 2 night stay...but other than that it was great!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very convenient!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great
- Chad (10/5): - Rooms always clean. We enjoy staying with you guys.
- Keith (10/5): - nice stay, friendly staff and very clean room and sheets
- Jeff (6/5): No Breakfast - Beds were comfortable and clean but the coffee was horrible and the only choice for breakfast was fruit loops or Raisin Bran. Not the continental breakfast they describe. We only stay with them because they allow pets but you have to pay an extra $15.
- Zachary (6/5): Never again - Smelled like mildew the second we walked in the door beds were extremely stiff
- sarahgB4324KC (10/5): "Comfortable" - Wonderful stay, Great quiet atmosphere around the Hotel and the restaurant within walking distance. The beds are great and the rooms are clean! I will definitely be staying here again if I'm in te area. Thank you!
- Ric (6/5): - Comfortable bed, very clean room.
Apparently an extension cord had been stolen from the room so the microwave wasn't plugged in. They came and slid the refrige & microwave over to the bedside so they could get it plugged in. There were kids running up & down the hallway playing really loud games until late evening. The breakfast could be a lot better. Overall, it was an O.K. stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Meh - The blind kept breaking on the window and the towel rack in the bathroom kept falling down. Towels had stains on them.
- Francis Pummer (8/5): Iowa hotel - Certainly a worth the price place to stay. The breakfast offering was lacking in my opinion
- rick (4/5): Very musty moldy smell rooms - I booked 2 rooms with outside access both of them smelt very musty like mold they even had my sinus is all screwed up by the next morning. Now I know why they were so much cheaper than everybody else in town
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Our room was EXTREMELY clean, not a speck of dust or dirt anywhere! The only things unsettling were the musty/moldy smell of the room (possibly from not being opened for a long time?). And our king size bed was up against a queen size head headboard.. a big gap for your pillows to slip through.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The Manager is a racists. I had a minority long-term friend staying in the room...all innocent and when I went to pickup food the Manager ask the friend to leave. The Manager here has poor judgement and I'm looking into filing a Legal Complaint against the Manager and the business. I've previously stated in this Motel many times, but never again until this Manager is gone! Mark L.
- homeofthepackers (8/5): Nice Room - Stayed in a big, clean room with king size bed at a reasonable price but didn't get much sleep because the motel is between two taverns and there is too much noise and the trains go through Carroll all night blowing their horns.
- traveling_smiles (6/5): Comfortable - From our side of the hotel we couldn't hear the nightclub next door and we couldn't hear voices from neighboring rooms. The AC unit and the fridge were noisy but not terrible. The bathroom was clean and the towels nice but we did find a dirty sock and long johns under the bed from the guests before us. They provide shampoo, bar soap, and lotion. The beds and linens were comfortable but the pillows taller than I like. This hotel does not have a pool which would have been nice to have. Our room was on the second floor meaning we carried our luggage up the stairs, not a big deal for us but it might be for some. There is a water dispenser near the vending machines which is great since Iowa tap water tastes funny. Breakfast was doughnuts, white bread, orange juice, milk, coffee (and they can make decaf), a selection of little plastic containers of cereal, and bananas. Not the healthiest but it gets you started. The Burke has a friendly staff and reasonable prices.
- lindasG8918VY (8/5): Clean, Comfortable, Affordable - Spacious room with Recliner, Comfortable King Bed, Nice high black wood dining table with highback chairs, micro and frige and coffee maker. Newer model TV. Some rooms have an outside door access for convenient in/out. Will stay here again when in Carroll.
- clp14 (2/5): Worst night - Right next to a strip club and with paper thin walls and no sound proofing so there's flashing lights, music and people outside talking all night that you can hear. You can hear anything above you or in the hallways and the AC doesn't stay running and is very loud so it kicks in every 10min. So you get to experience alternating jet engine sound with strip club sound. Musty smelling everywhere. Vending nonfunctional. Apparently the only hotel/motel in the area without a pool. There are so many other places to stay (unfortunately booked up for our trip) that you should not come here if you can help it.
- homeofthepackers (10/5): Burke Inn is a Great Motel in Carroll, IA - Stayed at Burke Inn in Carroll, IA, this past Monday night and got the last room available. Their prices are very reasonable and we had two comfortable queen beds and everything was very clean in the room and in the hallways and the air conditioning worked great which we were thankful for as it was 90 degrees. We got there late but were able to check in as they have someone on call 24/7 and they don't charge people until they check out! Everyone was in bed by the time we got there so there was no noise coming from any of the rooms. Breakfast consisted of donuts, toast, cereal, orange juice, milk, coffee and bananas. Have stayed here before and will stay here again next time we go to Iowa to visit relatives.
