Guest Reviews
- Dr Todor (7/5): -
- Hein Huiting (7/5): Prachtig pand, half uurtje wandelen naar het centrum - Mooi pand voor een prima prijs! Half uurtje lopen naar het centrum van Dumfries.
- Sarah (5/5): Ok for an overnight - It was a convenient one night stop for travelling from Shropshire to the Scottish Highlands. The breakfast was good. The bed was comfortable. The building is very sad and run down. Desperately in need of some TLC. The shower temperature was variable. The remote for the TV didn't work.
- Darren (5/5): Ok - Staff that cooked was very polite young lad. Needs a well over due paint lift, carpet refit, curtain clean shower fix, bit of money spent on this place and it would be worth the money.
- Jane (9/5): Would certainly recommend it - Lovely and quiet No window in the bathroom
- Ian (6/5): -
- Larrison (8/5): - Cozy and clean
- Walters (3/5): -
- Philippe (8/5): - ? Accueil par téléphone peu engageant
- Tipling (8/5): Excellent VFM. - Nice old establishment, therefore nice good size room. Very comfortable . Easy access & check in . Lots of parking, Excellent value for money, happily use again & recommended especially if as we were, passing through on route to the Cairnryan ferry.
Shout out to the young lad serving breakfast, the only member of staff I saw, working hard & fast, and apologetic for any delay, which there wasnt really. Appeared to be a slight leak in the bathroom, just to note.
Breakfast was ok, wife had selections of the full, absolutely fine, I had sausage & egg sandwich I had make a couple of modifications, (slice the sausage, butter the bead, came with sliced bread rather than bun, but understand saves cost & waste.)
As slightly out of town would be nice to have a lounge area to sit & have a byo beer, or even an honesty bar. Just a thought.
I can highly recommended the Casa Mia restaurant 15 mins walk, nice walk past golf club & along the river.
- Alex (8/5): - Room size and furishings with nice decor Breakfast a bit delayed because of exceptional cirrumstances but overcome by single staff members character and personality
- Joni (6/5): -
- Pamela (6/5): Uncomfortable and understaffed - Plenty of parking Bathroom smelt and didn’t look that clean. Stains on the shower cubicle and on the bedroom wall. Awkward to get to sink and toilet as behind the door. Breakfast was ok but sausages burnt and slow service as only one person there. Bed was very hard, didn’t get much sleep.
- Fiona (7/5): Very pleasant, clean and well equipped room. - Lovely 1920s house, in extensive well kept grounds. House a bit ‘shabby chic’ but very spacious, clean bedrooms and bathroom. Nice toiletries and plenty of coffee, tea etc. Breakfast was good, service excellent. Very pleasant staff, good parking and great location for the Town. Would stay again. No one on site, entry by key code sent on a text, so if we had needed help we would have had to phone someone.
- Rebecca (8/5): - Easy to find. Close to the centre. Comfortable beds.
- Sandra (10/5): Comfort bed, breakfast was excellent, served very promptly and hot, gentleman that served breakfast very chatty with a s - Very close to visiting Dalscone farm
- Claireybobs (10/5): Rivendell - Room was spacious and clean
Breakfast was good and young man who served was excellent. No options for food at night and couldn't bring food to the room.
- Stéphane (7/5): - Le petit déjeuner La vétusté de la chambre.
- David (9/5): - I stayed in Room 7 on the ground floor. Really comfortable and more like a suite!
Had my own bathroom across the hallway.
Check in was straightforward.
Lots of tea /coffee in the room.
Breakfast was excellent and served with a smile.
Would definitely consider staying again..
- alan (9/5): Comfortable old guest house - We had a large en-suite room with tea & coffee making facilities.
Breakfasts were excellent as were the staff, who were very friendly & helpful. The guest house is a little dated.
Carpets are worn, the bathtoom mirror was crooked & cracked in the corner.
- allan (9/5): -
- James (8/5): ? - Great location ,helpful staff Decor needs updating
- Denis (10/5): Restful - The breakfast was excellent. The room was charming and had an atmosphere of elegance. Being a last minute booking we were given a ground floor room with a view of the car park. This was not a major problem for us because we loved the room but the windows lacked blinds and so the only way to maintain privacy was to close the curtains
- Mark (8/5): -
- Mandy (7/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): Don't judge a book by its cover. It was really comfortable. The facilities were good and the breakfast was excellent - Comfortable and clean The check in procedure was a little disappointing with no one at the premises and having to call a number for the key safe code.
- kellie (7/5): Enjoyable-would stay again - Friendly staff with easy check in and good breakfast.
Room was well equipped if on the compact side The shower wasn’t draining which made back to back showers impossible-I did report this to staff.
- Tracy (10/5): Lovely room with everything we needed. - The room was exactly as we hoped. Very spacious and perfectly clean with a lovely old Scottish feel.
The breakfast was great. Really good quality sausages and bacon There wasn’t much to dislike but if I was being picky the toilet seat moved and one of the curtains needed attention. Otherwise it was fabulous.
- Mary (7/5): A comfortable stay in a convenient location. - A large comfortable room. Hot shower and clean bathroom. A generally peaceful environment apart from external traffic noise. Good selection of tea and coffee. Easy car parking. We needed to make a phone call on arrival in order to receive instructions as to how we were to get our room key. This worked well A little tired. External paintwork needs attention.
Traffic noise through most of the night.
- Heather (9/5): Comfortable accommodation with friendly staff -
- Johanna (8/5): Relaxing - It was a lovely room at a good location.
Checking in was perfect.
The building is very special and the name Rivendell takes you into Tolkiens world lots of nice details in the rooms and furniture. We loved it.
Breakfast was great.
- Stefan (10/5): - Wow, tolles Landhaus, komfortable Zimmer.
Unkompliziert mit Schlüsseln.
Eigener Koch für das Breakfast. Hammer und Parkplatz. Nichts
- David (5/5): - Location Rather basic and service not brilliant
- Robert (10/5): One night rivendell - Nice clean spacious room with tea coffee and biscuits Would of been nice on suite bathroom but had own private bathroom across hall missed having sink in room too brush teeth but all in all good
- Lonneta (10/5): Great location and staff - Walking distance to Dalscone.Made to order breakfast, super great and friendly staff.Super quite.
- Stewart (10/5): -
- Shirley (3/5): Very disappointed overall. You at least want to be able to wash in the morning. Felt cheated as owner knew of the proble - Room was clean. Breakfast was fantastic. Plumbing was broken. Could not shower in the morning. Toilet kept randomly running on and off through the night disturbing our sleep. When toilet was flushed water at the shower base would flow up into the base. Owner knew this prior to our stay but let the room anyway. Heating would not switch on.
- Karen (6/5): -
- John (7/5): -
- Steven (10/5): -
- Linda (9/5): Good for overnight stay - Good size room with lovely outlook
Very good breakfast
Recommended.
Plenty of parking TV very erratic.
- Lynsey (10/5): -
- Pamela (8/5): A lovely stay in a very well appointed bed and breakfast. Excellent value too. We will be back! - Excellent facilities and quality furniture and fittings. There were extras that made our stay better like the coffee, tea snacks etc. There was no ventilation in either of our rooms. Not a problem now but would be uncomfortable when it is warmer. Toilet seat would not stay up in room 8. View from Room 6 overlooked the garden but was spoiled by the clutter near the window. I don’t want to be critical but little things make a difference.
- Carol (10/5): Definitely recommend and will return Thanks - Excellent breakfast
Very helpful and friendly staff especially the man serving and sorting breakfast
Walking distance into Dumfries
Comfy bed
Very clean Initial uncertainty of where to park but quickly resolved

- af260ec7bcb071d010e5ac95a568e7a7 (4/5): - The man who served breakfast was nice and on his own from what we could see The room, cold, old duvet and pillows that were compacted and hard. Shower door needs repairing and mouldy.
Lots of rubbish under our window, lawnmower, a bike , old bbq and rubbish. Not well cared for. Such a shame
- e5fea66d13e57345a65e069ba0c738e5 (8/5): Great value accommodation option in Dumfries - Great value, great breakfast, good location Some mould in wardrobe and smell of food in common areas
- 33cf7e696ce970bfca243094156d3a6c (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect for what I needed, I was visiting Dalscone Farm nearby, so ticked all the boxes

- 4df74e00a582737a2577935e0a999be8 (8/5): - Very quiet room. Everything we needed. A very nice breakfast from a very pleasant chef. Initially difficult getting in as unable to work the key code.
- cf2fd7079da7706c2a568cbaf7f2c241 (10/5): Very pleasant and great value for the money. - Excellent breakfast and served by a very pleasant friendly gentleman. N/A
- 1254d3a5d8e4704e9cc41594e6604cdf (7/5): Great location but in desperate need of a refurbish - Needs refurbishing Dated
- 241b7e9064e7705c6bbd2684ac550036 (8/5): - Location is perfect, boy on breakfast was lovely and very busy. Unfortunately the bed was rock hard and room was fairly chilly.
- ef89221808b671cf98cd8a48163b8e17 (10/5): Does what it says on the tin. - Traditional property, nothing fancy but comfortable. Lack of facilities but you get what you pay for.
- ded5658cae74702df84ad56a277efbbc (10/5): - We've stayed afew times at Rivendell B&B & thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It's location is perfect with easy access to all tourist routes. We definitely love the

- 4df74e00a582737a2577935e0a999be8 (9/5): -
- Linda (8/5): - The hotel was clean and staff friendly and helpful. The inside was a bit sad and needed a bit of a spruce up, but having said that it was good value for money
It is situated outside of the main town area so a car is needed It to far to walk into town
- Olivia (8/5): Nice - Nice place, stayed for the playground in photo, but this is no longer there.
Was a bit out of the way for our travel just wanted to be fun for toddler. Needed to find local park instead for the morning before our big journey.
But very clean, comfy and friendly staff
- Julie (6/5): Great location, good food and friendly chef - Good variety of cereal and some yogurt and hot breakfast available. Gluten free menu on request.
We were visiting Dalscone Farm which was just down the road so perfect location The bed was very hard and the window in one of the rooms we booked didnt open. Building needs a bit on updating.
- Sue (4/5): Cheap but expected a better quality for hotel, would not recommend due to lack of staffing and needing redecorating - Breakfast was very good Very dated and in need of redecoration.
Poor that no staff to let you in, only phone number to call to get key, had to call several time before the call was answered.
- allan (9/5): -
- Anne (4/5): i wouldnt stay there again been in better for less - bed was like sleeping on putty gone hard, my head on the pillow caused me to have awful neck ache the next morning, music was played after 1.30am i thought it was coming from the kitchen but i may have been mistaken. the window frames were rotting i live in a graded 2 building and mine are kept clean and updated, the town was awful, too many faults in the room for my liking, only bonus was bedding clean, an breakfast chef was polite and did an ok breakfast my husban ate all his but i idnt like the priducts. everything could have been better, only breakfast and fresh linen on the bed was acceptable for me.
- Rab.K. (10/5): - The 4 poster bedroom looked great in photos The 4 poster part of the bed was very wobbly
- Beccy (8/5): -
- Lawrence (9/5): -

- Jon Gordon (8/5): -
- Harling (9/5): -
- Jason (10/5): -
- David (8/5): -
- Lesley (8/5): - Pleasant staff and very clean. Good location. Room was very noisy, heard everything outside on gravel drive and no window in the bathroom or extractor fan
- Sarah (5/5): Affordable, you get what you paid for. - The location was good for us. A quiet hotel. Hot water and clean sheets. Very dated hotel. Needs some TLC. The bathroom light didn't work. It got cold during the day. I found 2 dirty spoons in the pot at breakfast which was rushed.
Needs a good deep clean inside, paint. Out the back some crates and plastic chairs thrown in the garden.
- Chris (10/5): Excellent stay - Easy check in, great parking, warm room, fantastic shower power and hot water. The breakfast brilliant. Nothing
- Adams (8/5): - Nice location. Comfortable bed.
Great breakfast, with choices of breakfast. Shower was cold

Easy to walk into town
Self checkin easy to do
Breakfast was really good
Good value for money Nothing
- Ann Marie (8/5): -
- Vicki (10/5): Definitely worth the stay. I had a full brekky and it was lovely. There is also fruit and cereal. - Spacious comfortable and meet my needs for an overnight stay Not much really apart from getting to know/work out to use the shower. Switch was on the wall outside the bathroom and had a sticker clear as day 'shower' that somehow i didn't see.
- Jodi (10/5): Last minute trip - Easy check in. Nice spacious room, comfy bed and chairs in room, great shower. Good selection of cereal and the cooked breakfast was lovely. Great value for money
- Lorna (5/5): It did the job for one night - The staff were very nice Very old and in need of decoration
- Daniel (8/5): - Convenient for a one-nighy stopover. Staff very helpful. All good.

- Edward (10/5): - Best place in Funfries for sure!
- John (7/5): -
- Evelyn (8/5): -
- Carolyn (10/5): -
- Andrew (4/5): Cold and wobbly - Breakfast was nice enough and plenty of parking The room was freezing with only a very thin blanket and no-one around to get us anything more. The nice-looking 4-poster bed wobbled massively and was genuinely worried was going to fall apart. Quite tight to get car through to rear parking, with a shed in the way that looked like it had been hit a few times by other guests.
- Sara (10/5): Beautiful Rivendell - Beautiful building. It felt very special staying there. Really comfortable. Loved not having to worry about parking. Smooth check in. Good mights sleep. Great shower. Lovely breakfast with a friendly amd attentive chef. There's nothing we didnt like.

- Leon (10/5): -
- Helen (9/5): I’ve stayed a few times before, good accommodation, good breakfast. Will stay again -
- Richard (3/5): One off - Outside of house looks amazing, liked the curling bowls at bottom of stairs, breakfast was lovely and chef was friendly also room was fair sized with an ensuite bathroom. Stayed in room 4: toilet handle was broken, seat kept moving, bed wasn't really comfortable, too far from town centre, last night of stay seemed to of had a lot of shouting and banging going on till early hours.
- Diana (8/5): Lovely stay would stay again - Comfortable, quite, lovely breakfast
- Jonathan (5/5): Value for money - Pillows to hard!
Very thin walls for sound proofing
