- Jaak (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Amy (7/5): There are better places to stay - My room was near smokers so had cig smoke in my room. Bathroom was disgusting and zero ZERO wifi
- Luis (10/5): Excellent hotel in Old Historic Bagan - A real paradise in the middle of Unesco world heritage Pagodas. Elegantly decorated confortable rooms. Beautiful pool and surrounding gardens. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Definitely recommend. N/A
- Yulia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (9/5): Beautiful hotel perfectly located to visit the temples with helpful staff - Location

- Anne (8/5): Great welcome when we arrived. Just loved the hotel. - Lovely old world but very nice. Could be better with the wine. Not much of a choice & the white wine was not chilled.
- Mr. (8/5): Comfortable Resort Hotel in Heart of Old Bagan Temples - Very comfortable room.
Good restaurant.
Great swimming pool. Wifi could be better.
- Mark (10/5): Amazing resort and well above expectations - use local tour guide: Min Thant (tastesofbagan.com) - The staff is very friendly and helpful (like all Myanmar people!). The set up of the reosrt is beautiful with nice little 'houses' in great and well kept gardens. The swimming ppol was in good order and so was the overall property. The room was spacious and fortunately very clean. The resort spa was small, but of very high quality - excellent massage with superb price quality - take one every dauy before dinner! I found it difficult to find a good and safe hotel in Bagan with little (recent) proper reviews - hence also my more extensive review of this nice and 'great pick!' hotel. Location is excellent and very close to all sights. Breakfast also ok for Western travellers. I will certainly look to return with my family.
PS: I made use of a local tour guide: Min Thant of Tastes of Bagan (.com). I would highly recommend to book him! A very knowledgeable, friendly, enthousiastic and fluently English speaking guide (tastesofbagan.com / WhatsApp: +95 (0)9 2560 39745 / minthant903@gmail.com.We had a wonderful 1 1/2 day tour - on e-bike, best way to experience all the stupa's in nature - Just please book him (and say hello from me ;))! To be honest in the current situation in Myanmar - after covid + political unrest - the resort is in amazing good shape and hence no negative elements - if at all perhaps only a request to widen/vary the selection of fruits (currently 3 or 4 sorts) a bit more at breakfast (but that is also my personal preference / taste).
- Traveljoy13 (10/5): Just a wonderful experience in the best location - Just a wonderful experience. The team, the food, the rooms and the location just perfect. I can highly recommend to stay here. The attention to detail and for the guest is very high. Great experience. Massage only until 6 pm (but most tours end with sunset and you will not make it). Occasionally there are ceremonies from 4/5 am in the morning with music nearby due to the great location. But was no problem with aircon on and windows closed.
- Amy (8/5): Very good -
- Sheenaanne (10/5): Very comfortable and relaxing hotel. The rooms are spacious - Good location for the site seeing but less good for food choice Not much choice for food options outside the hotel
- Mark (10/5): A comfortable and relaxing stay for good value for money - Great breakfast, helpful staff Maybe fans in the Reception area - it was quite hot!!
- Anthony (4/5): Need maintenance and management - It is a beautiful property Staff don’t really care, no management around. Not properly maintained - we git taken to 3 different rooms. The first - there was a leak from the roof, second - still had previous guests slippers, third the AirCon was really bad. We had no choice, so we moved the bed under the AC to he able to sleep some. We were suposed to stay 2 nights, left after 1.
- Dewi (8/5): Very good -
- Thibo (9/5): Superb - The staff was great
- Evans (9/5): Superb -
- Alison (10/5): Complete comfort which far exceeded my expectations. - This hotel could be compared to hotels in first world locations. How they manage to maintain these standards post COVID post Coup in Myanmar I do not know. The only thing I would change at all would be a slightly more comfortable mattress.
- Ryan (8/5): Very good -
- Nick (8/5): Very good -
- JUN RONALD (10/5): - The place is very good. The staff are far beyond great. They are helpful and friendly.
- Hfoz (7/5): Good -
- Ken R (10/5): Oh my badda and dirty feet - The hotel staff were extremely friendly, helpful and efficient. Real service oriented!
They might consider changing the bathtub shower to standup shower for safety reasons.
- Imogen (8/5): - Beautiful hotel with fantastic food. Very cold pool and also some of the Reception staff were very abrupt and didn’t apologise when they made a mistake in misquoting us something by more than $100.
- Chaz (10/5): Perfect location. - Great hotel. Very clean, excellent location. One of the staff , Min Min will go way above and beyond to make sure you have a great time!
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Ewan (8/5): Good place to stay - Spent three nights here whilst sightseeing in the area. Great hotel but loud music started at 4.30 am, I'm told this was a wedding!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The bathroom was dirty and very old.. The room was very average and bedding updating .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely resort style rooms and facilities. Reasonably priced. Very warm welcome. Breakfast menu a bit "tired". Easy and inexpensive access to sights of Bagan.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Staff service without a smile. The room cleaners did not do a proper job next day after we gave them tips. The cleaner did not provide us hand towels. First night a bowl with food inside left on the night table, we did not what was and did not touch it. Next night the bowl disappeared from the night table. When we checked out the staff questioned us where was the bowl. I lost the room key where in the room, they charged me US$20. I have not complaint because it was my fault. No a good experience stay in this hotel!!!!
- Cherie (10/5): - Great hotel/ resort in a Old Bagan. You can borrow a bike to all the nearby sights - best way to see the city! Staff is friendly and the room is very spacious.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location! You can walk to some of the main temples in Old Bagan or grab an e-bike right outside. Beautiful pool and great food!
Repas très bons au restaurant A little bit if Myanmar, à 500 m.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent service and friendly staff. Loved the pool for an end of day refreshing swim.
- Matthias (8/5): will come again - Allways a beautifull place to stay, kitchen does need improvement but staff is working hard to make it work.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly staff, efficient check in procedure. Nice pool with clean facilities. Room was very clean and serviced promptly every morning.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful environment and design, a lot of effort put into it. Close to Old Bagan. A special place that is a pleasure to stay in.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It has the amenities to make it cultural and relaxing
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Overall the staff were amazing and went out of their way to meet my needs. If I had to recommend anything, it would be replacing their taxi/shuttle. It was old. Not worthy of the cost to use it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A lush oasis in the heat and dust of Bagan. Unbeatable location, beautiful grounds and pool, very comfortable room and helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property was ok, but music was very load in the common areas, not very relaxing
- Verified traveler (10/5): - i liked the rooms and gardens and pool. The front reception were unfriendly and unwilling to get money or change so as i could pay the bill
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent hotel with a location that’s tough to beat. Great pool area, restaurant, and staff. Really enjoyed our stay
- Meredith (10/5): Loved this hotel - Great location and central to everything we wanted to do and see in Bagan. The bike rentals were perfect too!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property had a Myanmar feel to it and the staff were very helpful and efficient.
- Adam (10/5): - Beautiful hotel and great service! Walking distance to many of most famous temples. This was my splurge during trip around Myanmar, and glad I did upgrade to this hotel. Only down side is it is not near town, which is also nice and interesting.
- Renee (10/5): - We loved our time in Bagan! The hotel was perfect! Great location. Fabulous service and breakfast and beautiful grounds.
- Alek (8/5): - Lovely hotel but dinner menu is very limited and what really bothered us was the noisy demonstration by hotel employees outside the hotel, which literally lasted almost all night long. Members of the union are protesting for fair wages. Management had warned us of the possibility of a disturbance, but we were not expecting to be awoken at 3am with loadspeaker chants.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Pool - Great hotel right by the entrance to Old Bagan. Our room was spacious, breakfast had plenty of options, staff were friendly but it was the pool that was outstanding. Just across the road were local eateries at really reasonable prices.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely hotel, great location. - Very friendly staff and great location for visiting the Pagodas and Temples.
- Dumitru (10/5): Amazing place! - We spent three nights in this hotel, everything was perfect since the day we arrived till the day we departed. Nice big cozy room, good choices of breakfast in the morning to suit all cultural preferences.
Overall, we had an amazing stay and we highly recommend this hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful resort at a bargain price - The Hotel @ Tharabar Gate is amazing. The grounds are landscaped beautifully, the rooms are large and fabulous, the breakfast is abundant and varied. Staff members were polite and helpful. I loved this place. It is conveniently located for visiting temples and can provide a free bike rental if you want to explore by yourself. I found Old Bagan ideal for sightseeing. On the other hand, it is VERY quiet at night. There is almost nothing else around, and my first night when I ventured forth, people acted like I was crazy to be strolling around in the dark. Bring a flashlight.
- Giao (10/5): - The hotel was very clean, the pool was great, and the service was amazing all around. The breakfast buffet was a bit too expensive for the value by Myanmae standard if you had to pay for it though. Other than that, highly recommended.
- John Raphael (10/5): Luxury oasis in the heart of archaeology - Excellent hotel with very friendly and helpful staff, including the owner who was on hand when we checked-in to give us a special welcome! Great location with good food, including a selection of local Myanmar wines, which were quite enjoyable. A special benefit of our booking through Hotels.com was the additional inclusion of dinner each evening gratis, which included a special menu. The room was spacious and well decorated, located in a nice corner of the resort across a fish-filled stream, which is well-designed, with beautiful gardens and grounds. The only thing we missed was the swimming pool, which was being renovated while we were visiting, though the staff, food, drinks, happy hour and the rain all meant that we practically forgot about it. The hotel had also arranged for us to use the pool of a nearby resort, which included free shuttle service. We did not avail ourselves of the pool offer, though our friends we were traveling with did, and they enjoyed it. The hotel is located adjacent to Old Bagan, the walled city, meaning we were able to walk to most temples and only needed a tug tug on our final day. Definitely a must-stay if you decide to visit amazing, beautiful Bagan!
- Jose (10/5): - Awesome hotel in old bagan, amazing staff and good breakfast. Unfortunately pool was under removation butvthey offered a free transportation to still enjoy the pool in another hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Close to main attractions, friendly staff, let us check in early after long bus ride from Yangon, free bikes to explore the area, beautiful pool and grounds, and they let us check out a little later to match with our flight. Great hotel in Bagan.
- Dan (10/5): - Not many guests at this time of the year, but the hotel was in top shape, staff really friendly - and all spoke English. A really great experience
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location - Very nice hotel, AC could have been colder minor issue!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great hotel, fantastic location and helpful staff, especially Min Min!!
- Luis (10/5): Awsome place - Amazing place. Great pool and restaurant. Great location and the rooms are great. The staff is very nice and helpful. Great people
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent.
- Maurice (10/5): Great location. Awesome Burmese atmosphere - It's a real gem. Character galore and staff super friendly. Location is perfect.
- Mohammed (8/5): Great hotel in Old Bagan! - Great hotel in Old Bagan with large rooms and a great pool.
- Ai Lee (8/5): An Inviting Stay - The hotel is nice with beautiful landscaping. Although the hotel fumigates 2x a week, there are still many mosquitoes. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to friends who are visiting Bagan.
- Carmen (6/5): - the hotel is OK, not excellent nor bad but overall lacks a personal touch in such an amazing city
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly and helpful staff, we had a great time there!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location is fantastic. Staff are wonderful. Facilities are generally good. The room we stayed in was nice enough, and very comfortable, but just seemed to lack a little "soul".
- David (10/5): A perfect place to stay near Bagan - Our stay here was amazing. The room was perfect and had very good AC. Turndown service was nice. Staff was exceptional. Food delicious. Pool great. The Hotel Manager from the Netherlands was so friendly and helpful. The hotel is right across the street from the place that rents electric bikes, and I highly suggest you get one and explore. There are cheaper food and transportation options nearby than the hotel provides, but the hotel itself is wonderful.
- patti (8/5): - Lovely hotel. Great location near for sightseeing. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Room was very spacious and comfortable. I highly recommend it
- Robert (10/5): An atmospheric and cultured hotel - An excellent hotel. Great location amongst the archaeological sites. Rooms are tastefully decorated with divine timber flooring and soaring ceilings. Pool is lovely in a shady garden. Restaurant is perfectly adequate if unremarkable. Only criticism is that the ac is a bit fierce
- Michael (8/5): - Very nice facility. Found two lizards on the ceiling that the staff shot with rubber bands and then capture. Staff wanted to charge me 500 kyat per minute to call my taxi driver. The call took 15 seconds. Shouldn't nickel-and-dime at $100+ per night in a country like Myanmar. Dinner meals were okay.
- ivan (10/5): Old Bagan with Kids - From what we saw and expierienced you can't go past the Hotel @ Tharabar Gate. Its perfectly located (you can easily walk around Old Bagan - or better still take a Horse and buggy for only $4-5USD an hour - 2hours is enough with a 15 month old). Fantasitc Staff, great pool for kids. Breakfast was great and they were able to organise good aircon taxis for us when ever we needed at a great price too - its not worth trying to haggle on the street to save $1.... and get a car with no aircon or suspension :) Food was fantastic and so was the ambiance at night.
- jeffrey (10/5): Wonderful Hotel with Great Character! - I loved this hotel! The staff were so friendly and helpful - a real assest for this property. The location was perfect for seeing the area's attractions. I loved the open air lobby, the gardens and the pool area. The breakfast was great - just the right amount of choices. The pool area was very relaxing offering plenty of shade.
- Colin (8/5): Highly recommended - A great hotel in perfect location for sightseeng
- PHILIP (8/5): Excellent choice in Bagan. - A very good hotel, probably the best in Old Bagan. Service was good but housekeeping missed a couple things. However, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or book again.
- Amisha (8/5): - comfortable rooms though food options were limited. Decent spa.
- SEUNG HWAN (10/5): Good value hotel to stay in low season - 1) let us do late check out till 4pm without asking. feel so nice.
2) it was my birthday when I stay there and got a cute and sweet cake. impressed.
- Daniel (8/5): Great relaxation point - Had a great stay here. The staff were really helpful helping us arrange our further travel in Myanmar. The pool area was wonderful and served as nice escape from temple sightseeing. The food good compared to some of our other hotel experiences.
- Brian (10/5): paradise - i extended my stay an extra night as soon as i arrived. i knew immediately it would be hard to leave. service was impeccable. the room was in need of some repairs and upgrades (water stains near ceiling, new showerhead), but it did not detract from my overall satisfaction. the wifi could definitely be improved: slow, weak signal, disconnects each time device sleeps or turns off. the hotel dining was decent. mohinga for breakfast each morning was my favorite. the proximity to the plains of Bagan and cheap bike rental were perfect. i cant wait to return.
- grace (8/5): Perfect location for visiting pagodas. - This hotel is beautiful. We stayed in a deluxe room which is modern, spacious. The location is perfect, close to most pagodas. We walked to different pagodas for sunrise and sunset, rented ebikes across street to farther sights. We stayed 3 nights and ate at several restaurants around the hotel, all are good. We actually like the restaurants here more than the ones in Nyaung U.
The reason I am not giving 5 stars is the mosquitos in the room at night made it hard to sleep well. They need to add mosquito nets.
- SANDI (10/5): Awese - Great resort stay. Excellent value for money
- Verified traveler (8/5): great locatioin - great garden, lots of trees
- Ginette (8/5): Great location - Great place near the Pagodas, good restaurant next door. Nice pool
- mr g (10/5): A superb hotel in an ideal location. - A lovely hotel with excellent rooms and a nice restaurant. Perfect location in Old Bagan so you can pop back for a swin in the pool in the middle of the day.
- Peter (10/5): Great spot to stay when visiting Bagan - My girlfriend and I stayed here for 3 days and 2 nights. Great hotel to use as a starting point for visiting all the temples and pagodas in Bagan. Electric bike renters right outside the gate of the hotel. There are a couple of nice restaurants within walking distance (recommend eating and drinking outside the hotel as they charge $5 for a can of Tiger beer *yikes!*). The complimentary breakfast was good. Room was very comfortable and clean. Great pool to jump into in the afternoon to cool off from a morning of temple exploring. Good experience and will stay there again on my next visit to Bagan.
- Wesley (8/5): Great hotel but gouges you for kids - Stayed with our children (ages 6 & 3) during the off-season - late June 2015. We had a double room with a king size bed and ordered a extra bed for the 6 year-old. Unfortunately, for that extra bed the hotel charged us $50 USD/night which was not much less than the $72 USD/night we paid for the entire room. Similarly, the hotel offered babysitting services at $15 USD per hour per child. So, one hour would have cost us $30 per hour which is much more than the prevailing rate in the US; even in the most expensive cities! By contrast, our hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia (Angkor Wat) charged us just $5 USD per hour to watch both children.
Overall, we enjoyed the hotel. However, we wish it provided better value for children's services. Obviously, they don't really want kids there via their pricing mechanism.
- Ann (10/5): Thoroughly recommended. - Delightful hotel, beautiful surrounds and ever helpful staff. The pool was much appreciated, water really warm at this time of year. Perfect location for exploring the temples. Horse and carts at the front with lovely drivers who speak quite good English. They really need the financial support of tourists. Bagan is incredible but the people are really poor.
There are very cheap local restaurants just outside the hotel gates. You can have a traditional meal of 2 curries for 2 people with all the small bowl additions and rice for 4000 k (about $5)
Two bottles of beer are about the same price. A bargain! Really lovely hotel for a unique experience.
