Guest Reviews
- RandyandSue (10/5): - Jane [host] was very friendly and helpful. We arrived in the middle of a severe weather alert [rain and high winds], and just felt very comfortable. Room was excellent - fun to watch the wind , rain and waves outside our window.. Breakfast was great and the the company - another couple from Scotland] were most interesting. Before we left Jane gave us some tips on places to stop along the Cabot Trail.
- Graham (10/5): - The property was beautiful and the owner was super nice and helpful. It was a lovely place and I only wish we had been able to stay longer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing!! There are not enough words to describe owner Jane and her beautiful and comfortable home. She was super helpful guiding us to our daily destinations, breakfasts were "over the top", and setting up the fireplace for a chilly night's fire warmed our hearts as well. The view of the water was breathtaking. We hope to come back some day soon!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - wonderful time and very thoughtful, great location
- Maryanne (4/5): - We had a pleasant breakfast and the host was informative about the area but the rooms were cluttered with too much furniture, it was a bit disappointing due the pictures making the rooms look larger than they were as well as the grounds. It is also located on a main road into town, the noise put us off when trying to sleep.
- Woody (10/5): - A very unique B&B as the house was over 100 yrs. old and had been built by a sea captain. We had the captain suite which included a bedroom as well as a sitting room with a working fireplace. Rooms are full of antiques. Grand view of the channel to Sydney. Jane is very friendly and has a good knowledge of things to do for travelers. Excellent breakfast.
- Gerritje (10/5): - Our stay at A Boat to Sea B&B was wonderful. Our host was welcoming and a great source of information about the area and where to eat.
Our room was comfortable and tastefully decorated.
Best of all the breakfast was delicious. We highly recommend this place.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Amazing breakfast and great views. Host is great, friendly and helpful. Rooms are small would be the only possible detractor
- Patrick (10/5): - Great breakfast and a good stay. Would recommend.
- HOWARD (10/5): - Nice place. Pretty. Great rooms. Comfortable beds. Nice breakfast
- john (10/5): - Beautiful home , charming , very friendly hostess, nicest place we stayed at on our vacation to Nova Scotia.
- Lori (8/5): - Our room cute, bathroom was private, very small, faced the street, no way to pull shades. Bed uncomfortable, only 2 pillows, glad we brought our own. No water in room, small coffee pot, but no water in room... other than bathroom. We brought our own bottled water! We received a call while driving & the host informed us there was a checkin window 3-7p! Didn’t know. She “let” us still come, but both my husband and I felt stress because of her tone on the phone. She told us she couldn’t meet us. Instructions on the house phone when we got there. Ice bucket had old water in the bottom when we arrived, we were there two nights. Didn’t expect beds changed, but to be made. Fresh towels were provided. Coffee in AM was awful... host made it clear we needed to ready for her Bf to be served at 08. Guests were assisting her and honestly plates served one by one made to group feel they had to wait for the last... I’m quite certain their food was cold by the time the 6th person was served. Another “helper” showed up to help the host, but wasn’t introduced. The parking was fine & view nice. The host initially charged us one night, we were leaving early... my husband had to go back in and remind her to charge us for the 2nd night as I realized when I saw my email total... she was ultimately paid in full. Hope I do not get extra charges on my CC.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The host was fantastic and the breakfast was delicious.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location was great. The owner was very hospitable and helpful about the area. The room was exceptional, clean, and roomy. The amenities were second to none. Would very highly recommend to all and would definitely stay there again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Jane was a fantastic host. We really enjoyed our stay as did our puppy!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful gardens, great location, good food snd a fun knowledgeable host.
- R&R (10/5): - Jane was a doll...and was very helpfull in making suggestions on where to go in Sydney. The breakfast was so delisious.
- Jean (10/5): - A beautiful property overlooking the bay. Watched the ferry boats arrive in a lovely sitting room at the back of house.
The owner was very gracious, we could make coffee, tea in the kitchen and enjoy the sitting room. Loved this B&B
Highly recommended
- Wendy (10/5): - Lovely old house with lots of charm. Close to Sydney ferry, backs on the ocean, lovely host.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Enjoyable stay. - Nice older house, well furnished and cozy, early set breakfast time (08), very engaging host.
- Bruce (10/5): - Couldn’t ask for a nicer place to stay. We were there two days while we transited the Cabot Trail. Excellent facilities, location and delicious breakfasts. Definitely a winner!
- Lawrence (10/5): Lovely place to stay - Jane greeted us was very helpful and very pleasant. She gave us good directions 4 places to eat and directed us towards them. In the early evening we sat on the shore on the lawn below are room and enjoyed the peace and quiet. A lovely place to stay
- Polly (6/5): - Friendly Inn Keeper, great breakfast, pretty garden. However, we arrived at check-in time but the door was locked. We had to go to a campground to change our clothes before a boat trip. When we returned later, the ocean view room we had reserved was occupied and we were given a room facing the noisy road. When we checked out, we were told the price was the same as the ocean view room on the quieter side that we had reserved.
My brother stayed at the Heritage Home B&B down the road and was able to check in early. He enjoyed the innkeeper there, Juana.
- Jo (10/5): - Charming B&B with and equally charming owner. She made us feel completely at home. Breakfast was top of the line. I would definitely stay here again.
- LK (10/5): - The views to the water are beautiful and the old house is charming. The owner Jane was so warm and inviting. We shared stories about animals, birds, travels; she suggested fabulous restaurants in which to eat and sites to see. We left with happy memories and would suggest A Boat to Sea to friends.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A great welcome. - We appreciated the great welcome from our hostess who encouraged us to have our evening meal at a local restaurant with other guests.
We all sat together at breakfast and it was an enjoyable and sociable experience.
- Carl (10/5): Excellent value and an amazing experience - Convenient location. Excellent breakfast. Host was very sociable. Interesting company at breakfast from Germany and France. Beautiful view of the harbor from the well manicured yard. The house was very quaint, I loved it.
- Therese (10/5): Bye the sea - Beautiful home and location.
- Ken (10/5): Fantastic View of the Sea - We were very pleased with our stay. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The view was fantastic.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfortable friendly accommodation - Comfortable, friendly accommodation. Jane was very attentive to our needs
- Renee (10/5): Perfect stay - We passed through North Sydney a few days ago on a quick getaway, and couldn't have been happier with our stay! There were great views, the room was beautiful and Jane was lovely! Breakfast was amazing too. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you for a great time!
- Deborah (10/5): - We had an amazing stay with a great breakfast. Host Jane made us feel at home
- Shelley and Don (10/5): Real character home - This B & B was in a real character home. It is sitting on a gorgeous spot right on the lake and from the moment you walk in the door, you feel like you are visiting family. Our room was spacious with an extremely comfortable bed and in the morning we were served a delicious breakfast. We would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend this B & B.
- MisssFit (6/5): Clean & Comfortable - This B&B is clean with a very comfortable bed. The hostess, Jane, is wonderful and her breakfasts were quite good. However, we stayed in the Captain's Room and I've never stayed in a room where the toilet, sink & shower are located in the same room at the foot of the bed and the busy highway/street is located about 10 feet from the head of the bed. Also, there are only sheers on the windows with no blinds or curtains to keep out the light from the street light located directly outside the room or the blaring spotlight on the B&B sign outside the bedroom window. So if you need a dark and quiet location to sleep, perhaps this place wouldn't be for you.
- Kelly (10/5): Gorgeous property, awesome views - The property is lovely, views incredible, the breakfasts were excellent. The hostess was very accomodating and friendly. We would stay again. The town left a bit to be desired but was a good central spot for the places we were there to see.
- TorTraveller (10/5): Wonderful Stay - We had a wonderful stay. If we had more time in our itinerary, we would have definitely stayed longer. There was an issue with our reservation (expedia had double booked the room we were staying in), but Jane gladly upgraded our room to the tower, which had a spectacular view. The hotel is close enough to the cabot trail, and boasts wonderful facilities for you to sit out on the dock or at the veranda to enjoy the view and surroundings. The breakfast was delicious, and Jane is the most kind and personable host. She'll even sit down with you during breakfast for some good conversation. Highly recommended for anyone visiting cape breton.
- Lucie and Yves (8/5): Nice view and grounds - We had a nice room with ensuite. Queen bed was comfortable. Unable to switch TV channels from bed or sofa as modem was attached at the back of the TV. Very small bathroom and tricky tying way for shower lining which needed to be cleaned or replaced as it smelled humidity and had dark spots. No room to hang our towels and towels were not replaced during our 2 nite stay. And no toiletries. Nice breakfast and very pleasant host. Jane is just charming! Very large and nice grounds where you can sip your glass of wine. Pleasant stay except for the above notations.
- Patrick (10/5): Cape Breton hospitality at it's best - Jane met us when we arrived, showed us our room and gave recommendations for eating establishments. The location is close to downtown and the NL ferry dock as well as a set off for other items of interest. The Captain's room plus the living room was all we needed to feel at home.
- Lynn (10/5): - Jane the proprietor was awesome. She is very friendly and so helpful, going out of her way to make your stay comfortable. Would certainly recommend A Boat To Sea as a place to stay in Sydney!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - amazing, friendly place not faraway from fantastic restaurant - The Black spoon
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful Victorian Home in North Sydney - It was delightful to stay at A Boat to Sea Bed and Breakfast in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. Jane is a gracious host, and her culinary arts at breakfast were stunning. This beautiful Victorian home is elaborately furnished with antiques and local fine arts and crafts. The view of the ocean from our room was lovely, and we enjoyed walking in her garden. The summer sun sets late at night in this northern region, and without black-out curtains we needed eye-masks to sleep (and earplugs for road-noise), but we keep those in our travel bags, so all was well.
- alex (8/5): Very clean. Excellent breakfast. Excellent host - Charming. Furnished with antiques. Stayed our first night in the East Wing. It had wonderful sea views but we found it too crowded with furniture. Hard to move around the room. The second night we were in the West Wing which was much more to our liking. Everything was very clean. Bed was very comfortable. Highly recommended.
- Steen (10/5): - Nice place with a wonderful hostess giving really useful advice about what to see on Breton island during the good breakfast
- Tina (10/5): Amazing Views, Great Hospitality - We were blown away by the view from the third-floor bedroom. Waking up to the bright, blue bay was amazing. Jane had a fantastic breakfast and was helped all the guests decide what they wanted to do that evening and as we left the next day. If I'm ever on Cape Breaton again, I will book here.
- Carol (10/5): - Beautiful home, fantastic view, excellent breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent choice - Wonderful innkeeper, incredible breakfast, clean, warm, beautiful house
- Maureen and Jan (10/5): When in North Sydney, stay at A Boat to Sea B&B - Very attractive building with lovely water views, and a nice room. Bed was comfortable, pull out couch not so much, but pull out couches are usually like that. Host was very friendly and available when needed. Delicious breakfast and happy atmosphere in the dining room.
- peter (8/5): - Very Accommodating and a very pleasant host.
Comfortable room with great view of the ocean.
The only minor thing, after a long day we returned late to discover the room hadnt been serviced, too late too do anything about it. Otherwise terrific stay and would return
- Ann and Bob (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay with a delightful host mi bunny
- Al (10/5): - A fine older house. A tasty breakfast and a gracious hostess.
