Mold and Must!!! - This hotel thinks that just because you book a room on a non-refundable rate that it means that they should be okay with accepting black mold that shoots out of your AC unit that is right over your head onto your pillows. They also think that it is okay to lie about the unit being brand new, when it is clearly very old. They also think that it’s okay to lie about accommodating me by switching me to another room when they told me they were fully booked and couldn’t accommodate me. When I continued to push and told them I couldn’t stay there and breathe that in, they then told me they would move someone else into the room that I was requesting to be removed from. I reiterated that they told me they were fully booked so how is that possible?! “Oh we will just put someone else in that room who hasn’t checked in yet” is what I was told. I told them I didn’t feel comfortable with them putting some other innocent guest in a room that clearly has health hazards. Clearly they do not care about the health and safety of their guests, nor do they care about morals or ethics. Do not stay here. The hotel reeks of mold and nut from the second you walk in the door, so it was no surprise that I found plenty of it in my room.
joannecI215UY (10/5): What a Gem! - I just returned from a two night stay at this great, little, historic hotel! It’s not fancy, but my room was perfectly clean, and had lots of character! The hotel was charming! The staff was super helpful and friendly! The location in the heart of historic Winter Park is amazing! You can walk everywhere and there are many wonderful restaurants just around the corner! I can’t wait, to return!
annbE9751ZG (6/5): I give it a weak Average rating. Biggest asset is its sweet location. It would be a lot nicer if it were “refreshed” - - LOW EXPECTATIONS. GREAT LOCATION. I knew the hotel was old, have heard time and again that it needs better cleaning and some updating, along with better maintenance. So, knowing Id be only two nites, and did not want a car rental, I took a chance. (I stayed at The Alfond a few years ago, and loved it but the price is nearly double what Park Plaza charges. That was 3 years ago, their rates are likely higher today) So, for me it was a tradeoff decision- I will settle for a great location and a lower price (saved at least $100 per nite, vs Alfond). Not really fair to compare the two- The Alfond is gorgeous, a far classier place than Park Plaza. And it is about 3 blocks further from downtown, than Park Plaza. Complaints on PP: I knew it was an old hotel and was OK with it being a little dated. But, I didnt like that some poor short cuts were taken re routine maintenance: ie., the ceramic tile in my bathroom: instead of replacing it, they painted over the tile, and it screams “cheap” and looks cheap. While my bed and linens were fine, and most surfaces in my room were clean, the room could use a deep cleaning: dirt in some corners, a little mold/mildew in bathroom. And, the headboard on bed!! My gosh, every review, almost, complains about the detached board and how it bangs against the wall- this was true in my room, too. Hire a handy man and fix these bad head boards!! I must say staff was kind and helpful- they didnt have any hard copies of any newspapers (I wanted a Miami newspaper for my train ride). But otherwise, they were helpful ie., when I called each day for an ice bucket (no ice machines on floor) they were quick to deliver it to my room, on 2nd floor. They have a keurig coffee set up in lobby, open 24 hours. Convenient. There is a step up to enter my tiny bathroom (which was big enuff for one small person), and this step up worried me, but I never tripped on it. And so, overall, I give this an “OK” review, but better proceed with no High expectations… (I might return again, for just 1-2 nites, due simply to its prime location.)

alang855 (10/5): Great last minute get-away - Came here for a last-minute weekend away and really enjoyed the place. Yes, it was old; yes, the bathroom was small, but we knew what to expect. It was very clean and comfortable. It has a perfect location. We walked from the Amtrak station and walked everywhere we went. No need for a car. Overall, a nice classic hotel.

The facilty is what you would expect for a 1920s facility.Bathroom was tiny, no fan and a threshhold at about 6'2" which resulted in an abrasion on my scalp given my 6'4" height. Shouldn't have to duck. No restaurant in spite of promise on website.Generally disappointing at $215 per night. If you are looking for quaint, fine, comfort not so much.

Jason (2/5): Rutterless ship if a hotel - I’ve stayed at this hotel many times with great success. However, this time was different. I had some friends staying at the hotel before we got there. The night before we arrived there were many cars broken into in the parking lot. Not sure how that’s possible with all the security they supposedly tout. When we checked in, which always takes longer than it should at this hotel, we were told that the air conditioning was not working very well. Mind you it was 97° outside. After having been in the heat all day, helping my daughter move in to her college apartment all I wanted was a nice warm shower. However, when I went to take a shower, the water was cold. I decided to skip the shower and go to dinner. The maintenance man came up and said they will look into it and hopefully have it back up before you get back. We came back and went straight to bed. The next morning we got up and alas, still no hot water. These things happen. However, what really irks me is I tried to call and talk to a manager before we left and I couldn’t get anyone to even answer the phone. So I waited until the next day and I called and asked for the manager. I was given the assistant manager’s Voicemail. I left very nice and detailed message and asked for a return call. Here we are a couple days later and no return phone call. They had a chance to make it right, but they chose not to. That’s why I am giving them such a poor review.

Jacqueline (10/5): - The Park Plaza Hotel is a charming, quaint, gem located in the center of Winter Park’s Historic District. There is so much to see and do in this area. We shopped William Sonoma, Talbots, Pottery Barn, Lululemon or little boutiques and stores. We visited the Morse Museums, walked through Rollins College Campus, and took a scenic boat ride. The Hotel is within walking distance from it all. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They always had bottles of water and coffee ready.

Andrea (6/5): - The hotel is in the middle of all the shopping and dining so very convenient. Very historic but the owner(s) needs to put some serious money back into this place. The mattress was terrible. Lightning throughout the hotel was pretty dark. While it was lovely to sit out on the balcony later in the afternoon and enjoy a glass of wine, it could have used a good pressure washing and maybe little partitions in between each room for a little more privacy. Only 3 electric plugs in the whole room which was just enough for my husband to plug in his cpap machine and a small side table fan. He had to charge his phone in the bathroom which you have to leave the light on for it to charge. I was left with not being able to charge my phon for a little but the next morning. The real issue was THE PLUMBING. I usually take showers but after a long day of strolling I decided to take a nice relaxing bath only to be met with the stopper being stuck so you had no choice but to take a shower with half the water coming out of the shower head and the other half for the bath. The shower head also looked liked it was about to come out of the wall. I have septic in my home so I’m always mindful about how much toilet paper I use but even still the toilet got clogged up. I really hope the owner(s) read this review and put some money back into that hotel. It would be beautiful.

REBECCA (10/5): 103 year old Treasure - This hotel is a great historical place with wonderful history. The hotel is handicap accessible, but the elevator is small so get your navigation skills ready. Staff were over accommodating. Some touch up paint and a good cleaning on the balcony would be a refresh for this 103 year old treasure. Close to the train, beautiful park with rose garden, shopping everywhere on the street and restaurants that treat the palette just a few steps away.
Samuel (10/5): Exploring Winter Park, Fl - This is a nice historic hotel located right in the middle of downtown Winter Park on Park Av. Valet parking is a must. The standard room ( what we stayed in) reflects the basic nature of rooms from the past. The A/C is very quiet and queen sized bed comfortable. If you are going to stay very long, spring for a Suite w/King-sized bed and a sitting area.

John (4/5): - The property is old. The room was small, bathroom is smaller. The toilet is so close to the tub, there is little room to sit without your knees inside the tub. There was some goo on the night stand. The door joining the room next door was unlocked and ajar and does not have a lockable door from the other room. Bathroom renovations left the tub looking rough. They give you earplugs for free which tells you something of the proximity to the trains passing by. Other than its location it is not worth the money.

CynthiaL165 (2/5): Don’t stay here if you have any physical restrictions. - I drove 4 hours to winter Park and understood this hotel and their rooms were not ADA BUT never expected there would be steps to get into the tiniest bathroom I’ve ever seen. The door to the patio also had a huge step over to get out there. The patio wasn’t the issue but the bathroom step is a safety hazard. As soon as we went up the elevator into the room, we saw it was not possible for my Husband to get into the bathroom. We checked out 10 mins later. The desk clerk said he would try to get me a partial refund but after two emails, no one has ever contacted me. My husband said the smell made him want a cigarette. At least they didn’t charge me for the 10 minute valet.
Karen (10/5): Back in Time on Park Ave. - Staying in Winter Park on Park Ave is a defined treat for adults. Lodging with Park Plaza Hotel was fun but the rooms needs updating in the bathrooms - old shower heads, non-enviromental toiletries, toilets that are pulling away from the walls, all speak to a refresh for the price. It's charm is there - the staff is lovely, the elevator speaks of a different time and shouldn't be changed. It's a time-capsuled treat without luxury.
davidmM775ZH (2/5): Terrible experience! - Just awful! Do not stay here. Dirty and broken. Charming lobby but once you get to your room you will see the horror. Don’t look too close at any corner! Tub is so close to toilet you have to sit sideways and smells like pee. Lights don’t work and they turned off the water in the morning without warning so I could not flush my waste down the toilet or wash my hands. When I complained they offered me a bucket!! Front desk lady lied about the water shutoff! Shame shame shame! Manager needs a class in hospitality 101. What a waste!

Arthur (4/5): - I have a love for history, and this property is unique and has such potential...but alas, the history at the PPH is written with clogged tub drains, sticky floors, dirty carpets and threadbare furniture. If i could change only one thing, I would have stayed at the Alfond. Tighten ip this ship before it sinks!

Katrina (6/5): - Great location, but paper thin walls and windows. They are not kidding when they give guests earplugs and say a white noise machine is available. We could hear EVERY single thing from our connected room. The Mediterranean restaurant across the street pumped music until midnight. Definitely not the place to go for a restful night.
sharonmacdonald2023 (4/5): So disappointed! - Entrance of hotel was nice but our king room was a disappointment. The shutters all broken so you can’t close them so expect early am sunlight in your eyes. Also early am noise from restaurant below they serve breakfast so you will hear loud music before 7 am. The AC dripped from the ceiling all night had to lay a towel down to absorb the water which the couple times getting up through the night walking on soppy wet towel and crawling in bed I didn’t want to climb over my husband to get out of the bed. Lastly the floors are really dirty and the wicker on the outdoor chairs are frayed so keep your clothes away from snagging. I love old historical hotels and waited till valentines to stay here, but I was truly disappointed. They should close it down do some remodeling and put fresh carpets down get the floors polished up and fresh and update outdoor furniture, I did notice on courtside the outdoor furniture was in much better condition. But it really needs some love and attention, it really has the capability of returning to its beautiful hotel it once was.
Sanford (10/5): - The rumors are true: this place does charming in all the right ways. Everyone at the front desk/door is super nice, the wood & brass-ness is perfectly aged, room was a nice size for 2 (might've been hard to get serious work done without the other person hearing everything, but that's the way it is with old architecture). (It's also so perfectly located and reasonably priced that it would have to be really bad to *not* start from 3.5 stars for those two points alone. But it outdoes itself.)

Holly (8/5): Historic - Quaint historic hotel so the rooms were very clean and well appointed but the actual structure is dated as you would expect being historic. Walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbor cough! They provide earplugs in the room. Sweet hotel for a nights stay! Super nice staff

Katherine (4/5): Not up to expectations - Hotel is about 105 years old, which could be a plus. Unfortunately it is feeling all those years, with tattered chair upholstery, tiny bathrooms with tiny sinks and no place to set anything down, shutters that don't stay opened, etc., etc. Doesn't come anywhere near it's potential as a historic gem.
