- Zorick (1/5): Don't stay here it is really old and rickety - Maybe the location. I didn't like getting attacked by ants in the middle of the night and that's a doors are old the AC stinks like urine. But at least some breakfast was okay The bugs in the room. The bloody hand print on the sheets. Getting attacked by ants In the middle of the night. At least there wasn't bed bugs and cockroaches. My suggestion go to the Sonora inn. Half of the lights didn't work The wall mounted air conditioner smelled like urine. The driveway is crazy steep and it's really ran down the whole hotel weeds growing everywhere the walkway outside of the room is really scary like it's going to break.

- PETER (7/5): - My only issue was the complete lack of outlets to plug my laptop computer into. A problem for me and any others who wanted to take care of a little business while away. The lights from the outside were extremely bright. I understand the necessity of the lights but I think a little more could be done with blacking out the front windows as it was still fairly bright in the room with everything closed at night.

- Alice (3/5): - The location of the property was downtown on the main drag across the street from a Chinese restaurant and their other restaurant all over the place. The property itself was rundown and could use a coat of paint. A lot of the stairs in areas did not have railings. The rooms itself were at best A motel six. The pillows were very thin and everything was old. If you wanted anything for breakfast, you had to go to the second floor. The room was clean. Would I stay here again? No but the price was right.

- T (8/5): Nice stay for an affordable price - Nice place for an old hotel. I liked that they had outdoor chairs outside the rooms to lounge in. Bed was nice and comfortable. Lots of amenities for a low price, there was breakfast and pool. Breakfast was good, lots of choices like waffles, frittata, bread, cereals, coffee, juice, a few different cakes/brownie options too. Walkable to restaurants. I felt like there was a lot of sweet options and not enough savoury options for breakfast when I arrived at about 8:30am. Also the room I was in was situated at the front near the main road so I could hear the cars loud and clear at night time but as a light sleeper I slept through so wasn't too bad.

Or coffee and microwave at the reception desk even......? The fun and games started with a half foot hidden drop beside the disabled parking bay and no sign or traffic cone warning you of its existence. Alternatively they could fill in the drop and make it a slope. The receptionist helped but let's see if the hotel fix the risk - date April 2026.

Floor not plumb. Slanted room. Bathroom door would not latch closed. Bed was too hard to get good rest. Felt that there was only one staff member who did all. Ceiling fan broken. AC worked after resetting GFCI on cord. TV had to be manually turned on.

They walk you to your room. to make sure everything‘s up to your satisfaction, and the breakfast is like out of this world European style. I can’t complain about not one thing we love staying there

- walsh (2/5): Beauty and the beast. - Since this location is an historical place. It was true as if we were living back when the Gunn Hotel was first built in the 1850's just decades later! I like vintage the outside esthetic was beautiful. Purchased two rooms both doors have a top portion that splits open one room did not have the locks on the door so my daughter could not sleep. Because you can easily push those open and unlock the door from the outside and creep in! My room you could not use the A/C for the fan the vent looked like it had not been cleaned since the 1850's and made a very load and whining sound when on! Doors are very old so in order to make sure they are locked you have to really slam the door. So that sound was very amazing when trying to sleep in and trying to go to bed. The bed sheets had stains as well as the towels. I understand when it comes to historical places not much can be changed, but bed sheets, mattresses and room safety should be a priority if you want returning guest.

- Marian (1/5): Our stay left us feeling like we risked our health. - The location was good. The toilet would not flush. The sink would not drain. The bathroom was infested with ants. The tile was cracked and moldy. The soap felt like chalk. The floors were dirty. There was no phone, no tissues, and approximately 10 squares of toilet paper. When i tried to turn in my room key, no one answered the bell. The atmosphere was garage sale grandma - old in a broken down, musty, horror film way.
- Patrick (7/5): If you love history, this is your place. get the superior king room. - If you are looking for a unique property this is a great stay. It was built in 1849 and our room was furnished with period antiques. Because it is a very old property it is not neat and new, but it has a lot of personality,(two rocking chairs and an antique table on the veranda out side our door over looking main street Sonora). Nice big swimming pool. Homemade breakfast in the old parlor. Out side seating in the pool area. If you are a history buff this is the place for you. I loved it, my wife not so much. The bed was an antique but the mattress was not, I slept great. Because it is a 150+ year old converted home, it needs lots of work to maintain it. A lot of that work is still in progress.

I booked - You have to park in the back and walk up the hill and in the morning the lights are off. It’s dark out there and the room is disgusting. There was hair in my bed in the shower. The shower don’t drain right they were supposed to bring a microwave and a refrigerator to my room that never did. That was the worst hotel I’ve ever ever stayed at.

- Katherine (7/5): Would stay again and again! - I like to stay in historic (old) hotels, therefore I expect them to be pretty funky but full of charm. The Gunn House Hotel was just what I expected. Plus, someone had decorated for Halloween/fall and it was so cute! There are old books to borrow and read in the lobby as well as in the room. Bibles were there and I appreciated that! Parking is a trick as the spaces are behind the building at the top of a very steep driveway. In the dark and for my first visit, it was a bit worrisome. The room was quaint with antique furniture. The mattress was firm, just what I like. There is an old, deep bath tub which I enjoyed. The breakfast was FABULOUS, served from 7:30-10:00. A very sweet breakfast room on the second floor with lots of tables and benches and chairs. It is "serve yourself" with coffee, tea, OJ. The plates are old and chipped (maybe from the 1850's? :) ) but charming. Homemade egg dish, four different cakes, fruit, bagels, muffins, cream cheese, waffle maker. No meat items but I didn't miss anything with all the options. No hovering person waiting to be sure I had the right to be there watching every move I made. There are eating areas outside on the second and third floors which was nice. The rooms in the back upstairs were quiet. That was important because the hotel is on a loud, busy street. There is a lovely pool area for the seasonal pool. The pool walls are green. Not sure if it is painted, old, or mossy. I probably would have used it had the weather been hot. The price of the room plus breakfast was $60. Can't beat that! Minor touch up repairs would be nice. ie. In room #19, glue down the bits of wallpaper that are peeling, spackle and paint the wall in the bathroom where the wallpaper is off, just little things that need a few hours and a caring handy person. The tub was great, but under the shower door, the door tracks need to be cleaned and bleached. Not something you would see unless you were taking a bath. I asked for a ground floor room because I am older and there is no elevator. Room #19 was given to me and he said it was just a few steps. It was actually down a little path, down some stairs and then up a few more. Just be aware that ground floor in the back isn't quite ground floor.

- James (8/5): An over night visit to Sonora - Older converted property. Room nicely decorated and clean. The property needs maintenance and some TLC and it would be fantastic. Ceiling tiles missing in dining room, window trim poorly painted, as much paint on glass as wood. Wood steps and thresholds need repair and painting. On the other hand, the rooms were clean and decorated, the staff was friendly, polite and helpful.

Po pár minutách se objevil zaměstnanec ze máme přijít za půl hodiny, že za chvilku začne chystat. Působilo to zvláštně a lehce děsivě. Nakonec byla snídaně v pořádku ale o dost později než měla.

The windows haven't been cleaned in decades, there are cobwebs everywhere, it's disgusting. The floor inside wasn't cleaned properly, there was still dirt and string on the floor. There was trash under the bed. At least the bed itself and the bathroom were clean. didn't work, and the hair dryer didn't work either. The bed creaks loudly when you turn over. When reversing into the parking space, I noticed an iron bar in the ground that almost punctured my tire. When I checked in before 3 p.m., the hotel charged $25 to my credit card. For what? I didn't notice until a few days later and complained, but they claimed they had told me. I didn't understand that. If I had, I would have waited.

All the Furnishings in my room were antique and I would love to have taken all of it with me. The layout of the hotel is a little confusing. I had a difficult time finding my room at first. If your physically challenged by high steps and steep staircases you may want to choose another Hotel. The breakfast was excellent.

And this isn’t to slam the property just an FYI, and do better kind of review… first, the guy who checked me in was falling asleep as he checked me in… this was about 4pm. Second, sheets were clean? But had hairs all over them… third, towels were not visibly clean, after seeing the bed I cautiously approached the towels… there were little hairs in them. I can handle hair… but then I opened up one of the bath towels and it had brown streaks in it… I did not mention to staff because I figured “new” towels would probably be same condition… like I said do better. - David (6/5): - Clean room, staff service was slow and unresponsive at times but they were very friendly! Great breakfast :). Overall okay experience. For the price, it’s a good choice

- Laura (8/5): - Stayed here overnight to go to an Ironstone Winery concert in Murphys. Clean, comfy, and very nostalgic of the gold rush era. Cute rooms with AC that works okay-ish. Nice pool! Super lovely staff that runs this historic landmark hotel, which is conveniently located within short walking distance to nice eateries and restaurants, as well as adorable shops in Sonora

- Faith (8/5): Quaint hotel - This is a historic hotel in the heart of downtown Sonora. The decor is quirky but overall charming. Our air conditioner worked well until it started making screeching noise during the night. The breakfast is impressive with homemade cakes and a frittata and the coffee is good. Also the usual breakfast stuff like the waffle maker.
- Matthew (10/5): Great place for Yosemite trip - Historic hotel. We stayed for our Yosemite trip. Great location with a nice town and plenty of restaurants close by. The staff gave exceptional service. Awesome breakfast. Highly recommend.

- Jacquelyn (6/5): - This hotel has so much history and must have been beautiful in it's heyday, but it is in serious need of a refresh. The furniture was charming but falling apart. The room was tidy, but in serious need of a deep clean, and I found ringmarks and hair on the tables and other surfaces. The walls were thin, and in my street-facing room I could hear traffic all day and night in addition to my neighbors in other rooms.
- Maia (7/5): A dive into the past - Beautiful historic building from 1850, both the rooms and the furniture create an evocative atmosphere where it seems like you have gone back to the time of the settlers.
