Guest Reviews
- Monika (10/5): Perfect location, friendly staff and lovely pub! - Short few minute walk from the town's car park. Met with friendly welcoming staff. We were not intending to eat dinner there but very glad we did. The steak and chips were worth the visit alone! Cooked to perfection and great quality food. Our room looked superb and we had a peaceful night's sleep. Breakfast in the morning was well cooked and served by a friendly member of the team. Exceptional customer service, would stay there again and would highly recommend. Thank you :) Nothing negative to say.
- Navarro (9/5): A fun place to stay for a short Cotswolds visit. - It is a quirky old English hotel in a superb location in a beautiful village. The wonderful staff and the breakfast were outstanding. The two shower heads in the shower as well as the shower head for the bathtub were covered in mold to the point we couldn't use them. Everything else in the room was very clean.
- Gavin (6/5): Lovely hotel but needs some simple check in and room - Overall lovely just simple things let it down Mix up at check in didn’t look like we had our rooms at point of check in, showers poor in both my room and the cottage
- madeline (9/5): Excellent location , fabulous breakfast . Super hosts - Everything The rooms where great, maybe could do with a lick of paint
- Michele (8/5): - Delicious Breakfast
cosy bathroom needs some TLC
Shower was very hot
- Wendy (9/5): Location, location, location, with breakfast as a bonus! - Breakfast was included and fantastic! Friendly, helpful staff. Large bedroom and bathroom. Everything was wonderful. There was a dinner party the first night and it was a little noisy when trying to sleep, but I did retire to bed quite early as jet lagged and it is a public house/restaurant after all! Rest of my stay was peaceful! Would definitely recommend the BH!
- Dave (8/5): Had a lovely few days in the Cotswolds and look forward to going again soon - Location Mould in the shower
- Kimberley (10/5): - Great location, good variety for breakfast and helpful staff.
- Damiano_ (8/5): - Atmosfera di altri tempi.
Personale gentile.
Ottima colazione. Qualche piccolo dettaglio da sistemare.
- Robert (9/5): All good and the breakfast was truly excellent, will stay again 👍 - Really good and probably the best breakfast ever! No hot water in bathroom sink. Electric sockets for phone chargers were not great (too low to ground!)
- Lynda (10/5): Very pleasant - Location, good food and beer, nice comfy bed It was a bit expensive
- Robert (10/5): A superb visit with great staff and service. The food was excellent. - The breakfast was excellent and the service was brilliant. The food was of great quality both at breakfast and evening meal. We had a superb stay and enjoyed visiting the area.
- John (8/5): - Great staff and location Small issues with water temperature in shower and heat.
- Michael (8/5): -
- Elaine (4/5): Definitely would not recommend - The food was the best bit. Superior double 😂
The room was old and dated as was the mattresses. The bathroom needed ripping out and starting again. Yes it’s a listed building but the whole place was grubby.
- Margaret (10/5): Perfect stay to explore Burford. - Beautiful old building with many retained original features. Large spacious rooms. Nothing
- Steve (8/5): -
- Vooght (10/5): -
- Dolby (10/5): -
- Martin (8/5): - Breakfast (mine was gluten free)
- Susan (10/5): Worth staying in for the ambiance and service and Jock the chef was second to none, we ate a spectacular dinner and had - It was absolutely as described “quaint and authentic “but super comfortable and clean. Centrally located. Absolutely nothing
- Martin (2/5): Not what it was - Location was ex excellent. I am very disappointed with the stay. Visited many years ago. Then it was a boutique hotel which felt luxurious. Now it is a very ordinary pub with rooms upstairs. The room was spacious but with tired decor. The communal landing area is being used as storage, damaging the atmosphere that the building could offer. It was not clean.
- Robert (9/5): Very good overall - would definitely go back. - Location, friendly staff and superb breakfast. Decor a little tired in places.
- Stephanie (10/5): Location was awesome. Cute quant, breakfast good. Staff friendly. - Location Parking but unavoidable
- Robo1970 (5/5): Recent stay - Great location and staff were great. For what it cost we thought the hotel was tied and needed some TLC and a new mattress. Didn't sleep properly for 4 nights.
- Christine (9/5): More than satisfied with our one night, bed, and breakfast stay. - The accommodation was a wonderful surprise. We didn’t expect a two-story cottage – – it was perfect. The location is right on the High Street. Parking is a little tricky, it is free – – but on a busy day, not easy to find. A really good breakfast was included.
- Karen (8/5): Lovely place and location, great staff. Would stay again. - Great location. Staff were really friendly. Good size space. Excellent breakfast. Bathroom in need of an upgrade. Need to check on kitchen crockery/glasses etc. Glasses in cupboard were really dirty.

- Eileen (5/5): - Breakfast and food was ok. The room was good The staff were awful. Not a great welcome and then avoiding us during our whole stay. The room was good but the staff not being nice really put us off. Will never step in Burford again.
- Sheila (9/5): Clean, quaint, spacious self-catering cottage in beautiful Burford - Clean, quaint, spacious self-catering cottage Didn’t realise until leaving that cooked breakfast was included in price
- Sebastian (8/5): Amazing - Location was lovely and breakfast was sublime Shower has 0 pressure
- Olivia (10/5): - Staff where lovely and very helpful
- Sheralyn (5/5): -
- Stephanie (9/5): - Lovely character building. Fabulous breakfast.
- LORRAINE (7/5): A night in Burford - Location, right in the centre of Burford. Breakfast was nice. The bed. The mattress is in urgent need of being changed, it was really lumpy (we had the room overlooking the main street).
- Brian (7/5): Ok - Location. Staff Not very clean. Looks tired
- Martin (9/5): -
- Downing (10/5): - Location, staff, breakfast and the evening bar staff where brilliant Nothing
- J (8/5): Good value & brilliant staff. - Lovely location and large bedroom & bathroom. Breakfast was tasty & good selection. Staff very helpful and attentive. Not having parking, although it was easy to find spaces nearby.
- Amanda Martina (10/5): Super overnight stay in Burford. Recommended! - Beautiful room. Spotlessly clean. Great location. Staff were so accommodating. Ate in the bar and the specials were great. Breakfast was a treat too.
- Wayne (7/5): -
- Ami (7/5): - Location was great and the food was amazing, great breakfast choices and excellent quality. It was not a 5 star, it was very run down. There was a dusty mattress under the bed, there were no plugs next to the bed and one plug was broken, so we only had 1 working plug.
The shower door was rusty as was the shower head, the water kept spitting out dirty water.
There was thick dust on top of the four poster bed.
The door to the room had no handle so to close the door you had to put the key in and pull in shut hoping the key did not snap in the lock.
Sink plughole full of black gunk.
Random screws on the bathroom wall.
Bathroom door didnt shut at all, appeared like the door had swollen so no longer fit the frame.
No milk/even the long life ones provided for the room for tea and coffee.
I wouldnt stay here again.
- Ian (7/5): It’s was ok but could have been better if it was cooler - Location , comfortable bed, clean, breakfast Unbelievably hot with log burner and central heating. Lack of easily accessible sockets in the bedroom— had to scramble under the bed to find an extension lead to boil the kettle!!
- Zarah Foard (9/5): Excellent friendly staff, good food and a lovely bed, especially as it was a four poster bed. - Great place to stay. Breakfast was excellent with a big choice. Room was large, comfortable with plenty of storage space and a gorgeous carved four poster bed. It was nice having the bath and shower separate from the toilet. The hotel didn't seem to have a true identity. Its a beautiful building with a mish mash of ornaments and pink plastic hanging flowers which just didn't identify with the building.
- Lloyd (7/5): -
- Steven (10/5): -
- Helen (9/5): -
- Linda (1/5): -
- Angela (6/5): - Breakfast Could hear traffic noise, blind didn't shut & no blackout curtains which may have helped block the noise.
No hot water 1st morning.
- Boettger (6/5): -
- Susan (8/5): -
- Robin (4/5): Poor room, nice staff and lovely breakfast - Location was great so were the staff The room was dirty, tired, and is in need of a re- furb especially for the price they charge
- Louise (5/5): Ok - The bath although it could do with replacing and it was cracked and uncomfortable to lay in The bed, the pillows, the carpet desperately needs replacing the shower was dirty and it’s really old fashioned.
- Pete (6/5): -
- Jackie (7/5): -
- Maddie (9/5): Overall a very nice few days stay. The rooms are lovely and the breakfast was great. Perfect location too stay in, not f - Very welcoming and helpful stuff , very nice and cosy place to stay No baked beans at breakfast on the menu
- Jacqui (10/5): - Great location, friendly staff, will definitely return
- JULIE (10/5): -
- Luke (6/5): Not what I expected... - Location is great! All staff members were also very friendly, can't fault them personally. With some love the hotel could be really nice as it is full of character. The room was in a sad state of affairs. Very tired and dusty. Picture on the wall was smashed and magazines on the side from 2020 were coated in dust. Big stain in the middle of the throw on the bed which we immediately removed (causing us then to check the sheets for cleanliness).
When my wife drained her bath the water was backing up into the shower bringing up dirt and grime with it.
One of the window latches was broken so couldn't be locked.
Then as we were leaving we checked under the bed as you do and there was a crumpled up old blanket with an old tv that was again, completely thick in dust.
A real shame because the actual wooden bed is lovely and the room has a lot of potential.
After reading previous reviews I wish I'd have done the same and not just gone by the photos and rating as this was a surprise for my Wife's birthday that was unfortunately disappointing.
- Maria (10/5): -
- Steve (10/5): Excellent all round and a lovely bar to finish the night off 😉👍 - Everything Nothing
- Carole (6/5): The owner and staff fantastic, location not so good - The bar area and restaurant were characterful and cheerful, and the food was good value for money, All the staff we had contact with were excellent. The room was adequate for the price paid but the bed mattresses were awful, and though it was only to be expected given the hotel's location that traffic noise would be an issue, we did find it really bad.
- Helen (10/5): -
- Mia (7/5): We recently stayed at this property and had a mixed experience overall. The location is fantastic, with beautiful views - Breakfast was amazing
Staff was amazing
Cleanliness was spot on Blind was broken
Shower didn’t heat up
Owner seemed like he didn’t really care
- Ann (2/5): Very disappointed as the trip was for the Cheltenham Festival and a Christmas present for my partner - The breakfast was good. The room and communal areas were not clean. Dirty water came up the waste pipe in the shower and the water was only Luke warm.
- Ian (8/5): Only there for one night and we ate in the bar and retired to our room, very comfortable and restful - The position on the Main Street and the style of the place Our room was cold when we arrived and took ages to warm up
- Georgina (10/5): -
- Jason (5/5): Could have been amazing place to stay and i would have recommended but bathroom really let it down. - The initial impressions were very good. I loved having our own cottage through the outside courtyard. The interior decorating was lovely and the place felt very homely. Great to have a separate downstairs and kitchen. I could easily have seen myself stay for a week if i was in the area for that long. Also all the staff were vey friendly and keen to help. I always love recommending somewhere to friends and at first i thought i could do this until I went into the bathroom. The bathroom was in a terrible state of repair and to be honest embarrassing for me to have taken my wife to. Where do i start. 1) The loo handle was broken off so you had to flush it holding a screw thread. 2) The beautiful clawfoot bath had a messy repair inside it which made it feel grubby but worse than that was the overflow of this cast iron bath was a rubber pipe into a plastic u-bend. Why bother with the expense of a free standing claw foot bath and then do a botched plumbing job fit only to be hidden. 3) the silicon around the shower was a mess and stained. I am no bathroom fitter but i would have been embarrassed if i had done that in my house. 4) random metal scew hanging out of the wall inside the show about 6 foot up. 5) The tiled floor. I could have overlooked all the cracked tiles but some weren't even sealed down. They stuck to my feet and came up off the floor as i tried to brush my teeth. It felt as if someone had just given up by the time they came to the bathroom. Very disappointing.
- Allen (10/5): - Amazing staff, great location
- Espinosa (8/5): excellent, very comfortable, great location, cosy bar area - all good, offered a vegetarian option of a full english which was great coffee
- Lynne (10/5): We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely book again. - Staff were very welcoming. Our room was spotlessly clean. Was old and quirky loads of original features with four poster bed. Lovely bathroom with bath and shower with separate toilet.
The breakfast was superb with lots of choice. No car park but free carpark 5 minutes away.
- Holly (10/5): -
- Phil (9/5): -
- Esther (10/5): Wonderful memories made - will return - Location, staff and the vibe of the property. Brilliant food Uncomfortable mattress and limited pillows on the bed
- David (9/5): Lovely food.very clean and excellent location -
- Eric (8/5): First Class Breakfast. One of the best. Friendly helpful staff. - Full marks for one of the best breakfasts going. The Full 'Burford' breakfast was the best. Our waiter 'Swaney' ensured we had everything in the way of condiments, extra toast, preserves, tea, coffee, et, etc. If you cant get into the Farmers Dog come here. Hawkwstone Lager available. Exceptional value for B&B stay. The bathrooms, although clean are showing signs of tiredness.
- Suzanne (9/5): Perfect location, great old pub - Amazing location, great bar, breakfast was brilliant Nothing we didn't like!
- david (10/5): Great stay in FAB location - Fab stay in the cottage! Exceeded our expectations by miles! Great breakfast, plenty of choice, hot & cold. Staff were GREAT!! New grouting around the shower would make things 100 % FABULOUS
- Sian (9/5): -
- Jacqueline (10/5): Very enjoyable - Ideal location & friendliness of staff made our short stay very welcoming and comfortable.
- Linda (5/5): Convient to visit farmers dog pub - Location perfect. Breakfast was ok. It’s just very worn out
- Alicia (9/5): Really enjoyable - will definitely stay again. - Lovely, vibrant but cosy feel. Old school.
Great staff. Breakfast fabulous!
- Lee (10/5): Lovely few days away with great service - Lovely old building with quirky features , very clean but some furnishings looked a bit worn and dated but that was part of its charm
- Lisa (5/5): OK.... but expensive for what it was - Breakfast was good freshly cooked and nice and hot.
Choice of cold or hot foods. Not their fault I know but there was a power cut that lasted about 1.5 hours ... no hot water in the shower the following morning. Bedroom windows didn't close properly and bed sagged in the middle. Our comments were listened to though.
- Debbie (10/5): -
- Gordon (8/5): -
- Rob (8/5): - Friendly staff at check-in, bar, and breakfast.
Good-sized room.
Excellent breakfast. The bed was very hard and the heating took a long time to come on in our room.
- Gayle (10/5): Really enjoyed our stay here . Very welcoming , breakfast was superb . - It was cosy , loved the decor downstairs . Full of character The only slight criticism would be the shower head was rusty so the water came out in a few directions. The shower door was also rusty at the bottom and come off it’s runners
- Vicki (10/5): -
- Beverley (8/5): -
- ian (6/5): hotel disappointingly tired and overpriced wont stay again, Burford itself a lovely place - bed was comfy breakfast was great, welcome was very pleasant the bathroom was a health hazard as photos show, hot water was rare we only managed half a bath and one wash over a two night stay. on asking about hot water were told to run it longer or we could walk along to next room as their hot water was ok ??????. didnt do this as we had no bathrobes. saturdays breakfast host was a complete misery perhaps he should have a different career
- Jane (7/5): - Central location, staff friendly Our room which was upstairs to left was a bit tired looking, carpets deffo seem better days & didn't like the separate toilet, felt like going into a cold public pub toilet, without a sink.
- Gary (10/5): Cosy couple of nights - The Bumble Cottage is beautiful. Self contained and really comfortable. We had breakfast in the dining room so we only used the kitchen to make tea. Nothing. Just lovely.
- mark (9/5): - Lovely to be back here, this place was always an old favourite. Great, friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere Bathroom is getting a bit tired now.
- Leonora (8/5): Incredibly kind and hospitable staff and a charming and friendly small hotel. - Our breakfast experience was the best. We had friends who were not staying at the hotel join us and the staff were so accommodating and kind, not charging one of them for breakfast because I opted not to have breakfast even though it was included in the room rate. It was something we hadn't expected. Burford House was so warm and welcoming. We would definitely return. Nothing
