Guest Reviews

- Harrison (10/5): I would definitely come back and highly recommend - The room itself was lovely the bed was comfy and everything was very well presented, the bathroom and shower was amazing, the water was hot and had a good pressure. The room cleaners knocked to make sure it was okay to enter and were polite. They cleaned the room so when you came back it was basically as if you’d just arrived. The tv was excellent equipped with YouTube and Netflix and the wifi had great connection.
- natasha (10/5): -
- Megan (10/5): Lovely and quaint, very close to all amenities - Beautiful historic building, lovely interior. No issues.
- Henrik (10/5): -
- Leech (8/5): A pleasant stay, comfortable, clean, good value - Location, clean good value Stairs I have mobility issues

- Adrian (10/5): - Just a nice place to stay for three days, excellent
- Santiago (9/5): -
- Anita (9/5): Comfortable accommodation in a stunning location, disappointed with lack of Benjamin Britten memorabilia. - Spacious and luxurious room with great view of the sea. Comfortable bed. It was the house where Benjamin Britten grew up. The entrance was very gloomy. I know it was to do with the nature of the property and style of the house. But there was no one there, it didn’t feel very welcoming. We had hoped there would be evidence of the great composer, but the only nod to the fact that Benjamin Britten had lived there, apart from the blue plaque outside, was that the rooms were named after different composers. We were surprised, because I’m sure it would attract more people if there was a bit of the house’s famous history evident. It was a shame there was no breakfast, but the Thatch restaurant opposite provided an excellent one. But just be aware when booking that you will need to add another £15 or so to the cost of your night.
- Sanda-Stela (10/5): - A lovely place with an amazing view and great services!
- Henri (5/5): Lowestoft, omgeving en zee+. Britten House ~.
tijd.

- paul (10/5): - Hotel and proprietor were exceptionally helpful, professional and kind The chromeware in the end suite was Gedling and rusty. Also the shower glass door was black mouldy.....very much in need of replacement. Cobwebs on the ceiling.
- Phil (8/5): - Very dated but very clean.. No breakfast but understand why
- Karen (9/5): We enjoyed our experience at The Britten . - The room and bathroom were clean and spacious.
The bed was large and comfortable. Tea coffee milk and biscuits provided and replenished daily. Bins also emptied daily. Although we wernt expecting any meals, perhaps meals provided would provide improve the experience of staying at the Britten. However a few yards away are a couple of places providing an excellent breakfast.
- man (8/5): - Location, parking.
- derek (9/5): -
- David (9/5): Amazing weekend awayb - Room was very quirky and vuew was amazing No food
- Anthony (8/5): Overall very pleasant - Great location across the road from the beach, good parking in either the small car park at the rear or on the street. Walking distance to town and The Thatch cafe just 50metres down the road for an excellent breakfast. The room was spacious, comfortable and the bathroom was a good size with a walk in shower.
- BROWN (10/5): Scenic and peaceful - The history of Mr Britten. View from the room
- Kathleen (6/5): - I would say it was more like a guest house than a hotel but with no breakfast and no staff on site. It was a clean very nice room but I hadn't realised that we would be up 4 flights of stairs and as I had recently had knee surgery it was a bit of a trial getting up to our room I wrongly assumed there would be a lift. I also was surprised that room wasn't made up every day so my husband had to go out one evening looking for milk so that we could make a cup of tea. The position of the house was very good and we had a lovely view of the Esplanade and sea.
- Simon (9/5): -
- Paul (7/5): - Good location good bathroom. Curtains would not close due to broken Curtain hooks .
Didn't know about on site parking until I had paid for private parking .
Limited tea & milk .
- Daniel (9/5): -
- karen (7/5): - The location was great, near the beach, bus and train station. A bed side lamp would have been nice, Dave getting out of bed to turn the light off.
- Gwyneth (9/5): -
- Steven (3/5): - Location Hard to contact the owners same towels for 2 days bins were full in room toilet flush packed up on 2nd day only enough tea or coffee for one morning and when I called the owner about the towels was told we can have towels on the nxt day, the day we were leaving
- mr (10/5): Lovely place - Had the attic room . Was lovely sea view . Bed very comfortable. Easy checkin . Definitely visit again Lovely old style house . Bed so comfy x
- Bernadette (10/5): Nice beach, The Thatch- great breakfast, comfy guest house - Location, homely, comfortable & convenient for everything we wanted to do
Sea views
Got park right outside Difficult to reach over furniture to open windows
Dated, tired decor
- Danny (10/5): - Close to where I was working
And on the seafront.. perfect Nothing
- Darren (4/5): Below average - Good location, free parking for 3-4 cars The rooms are very dated. Bed lining smelt very bad. We canceled our second night as didn't like the rooms available. Needs a refurbishment.
- Roger (10/5): -
- Paul (9/5): - Clean and well furnished room. Comfortable bed and quality furniture. Bathroom could have been better, but overall still in a good condition
- David (9/5): Very pleased with the value of the accommodation provided and I am happy to recommend it. - Excellent location, right on the seafront. It was just about the perfect budget accommodation for me as a single person, and had everything I needed. Communication with the owners beforehand was comprehensive and everything went as promised. There is nothing that is worth mentioning.
- Karolis (10/5): -
- Glenn (8/5): - Good value
- Heather (9/5): Lovely sea view, good sized room, very nice. - Great location, easy check in and out, parking on site. The things I didn’t like as much were personal preferences, nothing to do with the room.
- alice (10/5): Excellent - Rooms were clean and a lot of space .We had problem with a fridge but Ann was really helpfull and arranged for a fridge and fan .Will visit again .Highly recommend. Ideal location
- Patricia (10/5): -
- Dani-Leigh (1/5): Worst place I've ever stayed in - Nothing Never saw the owners, very fusty smell. Doors were small my husband kept banging his head. Beds were 2 singles pushed together. No breakfast (i always put in Search breakfast and parking). Other guests need to park better as getting in and out of car park is so tight.
- Christopher (9/5): -
- trevot (8/5): Great location - Couple of nights in a room with a seaview.
Nice big room with big 4 poster bed.
Proper old style heavyweight furniture and a small dining table for 2.
Bathroom is big with double shower .
All bedding
/towels/shower mat/in shower rubber mat supplied.
Pedestal fan also supplied
Tea coffee facilities .
View was nice with a clear site of the sandbank.
Really good location
I would of liked more windows to open and better lighting and if the hotel did food it would of been great.
Parking for 3 normal cars or street parking .
Ann was helpfull
- Adrian (1/5): - nothing, with all due respect to Benjamin
- Audrius (9/5): -
- Kirstie (8/5): - Very close to the beach and the thatch restaurant. Clean room and bathroom. Check in was easy and by phone. Didn't see any staff in my stay
- Melanie (8/5): Great location, we would stay here again. - Great location, nice room, clean. Lovely big bathroom. We didn't have a sea view but, we didn't go there to stay in the room. The room was a bit small.
- Jennifer (7/5): Good location - Very comfortable bed Lack of fridge in room advertised as having a fridge but they did let us use one in another room . No milk alternative for tea / coffee .
- Natalie (10/5): - Very quirky hotel with very soac
- Frances (10/5): Room and position perfect for my stay, even the very good bedside light was in the right position. - Large room with big window, sea view. Good shower in bathroom. Everything I needed - non-slip mat, cool water in glass bottle, biscuits. 2 armchairs. 2 duvets, one summer weight. Blanket. Easy access, made available early. Can’t think of anything.
- Jo (10/5): Perfect - Early check in much appreciated . Clean attractive room and comfortable
- Gillian (10/5): - Nice base for us to work the first light festival.
Super blouse to the beach and lovely view from the room.
Loved the historic l8nk to Benjamin Britten, like a step back in time x
- Terry (4/5): Lovely location but our stay was marred by the bad smell. - Location was great with a clear sea view from our room which was lovely to wake up to. Bed was comfortable and there was a kettle, beverages, biscuits and a large bottle of water. There was a small fridge in which we could keep milk and a few items. Carpets could have done with a shampoo and there was a damp musty smell in the room which we think may have been originating from the bathroom. There must be a leak there which needs fixing. Luckily, the weather was good so we were able to open the window to vent the room. Bedside lamp didn't work, nor did bathroom mirror light.
- Helen (7/5): -
- Raymond (6/5): - The room was nice and very big with a seaview, we stayed at the same place and in the same room in 2018 Due to personal circumstances, breakfast is not offered at present. But we went to the thatch restaurant for breakfast which is only across the road and about 50 yrds away
- Craig (10/5): Nice view - Nice view
comfortable room
- Clive (8/5): Well worth it. - It was good, basic, but good. Price was reasonable considering. No complaints.
- Robert (10/5): Character property in great location - Stayed in Mozart room which was large with great views of the sea. Parking was limited and tight but we found a space for the two nights we were there. Beware emails asking for added info as a call to property revealed they had NOT come from them
- Trevor (9/5): - Great location, breakfast not included but the hotel told us a great place to eat.
- John (10/5): - Nice cosy room with excellent facilities and great view of the sea.
- Bethany (10/5): Lovely and comfortable -
- Penelope (9/5): Priceless for Benjamin Britten fans; very atmospheric, and not destroyed by modernism. Very close to Norwich, Yarmouth, - Fantastic location and very peaceful atmosphere. Furniture of the period. Dark on the stairs.
- Antoinette (7/5): -
- AttyJoh (10/5): A lovely place for our break in Lowestoft. - The hotel was at a nice location. It was clean and tidy. We will definitely book again next year. Thank you! N/A
- Claire (10/5): Lovely quiet and comfortable place to stay - Had a lovely weekend, the room we stayed in was lovely clean and comfortable, the location of the house was close to the prom, beach and local cafe, would stay here again
- Gill (10/5): Ideal location and just what we needed fo a short stay. - Comfortable. Great location. Nothing.
- lee (10/5): Peaceful, calm, healing - quiet, comfortable, atmospheric, restorative
- Steven (7/5): Not bad for money - Location No staff in attendance
- David (5/5): Strange. If they didn’t want to run a hotel..why run one…? - Location good. Nice balcony. Staff..no staff at all! It almost seemed as if we guests were an annoying interruption of the host’s home life! Much more like an Airbnb and not as good value. Poor tea tray and no way of restocking it for my second night. Very noisy bathroom fan of minor complaint.
- Karon (8/5): -
- Butler (9/5): A beautiful historical property in a superb location -
- Peter (1/5): absolutely horrible - no breakfast,no staff the room we had was stiflingly hot as the window would not open.we left after the first night as we had no sleep.no staff in the hotel to complain to room had a fan which was no help and cut out after a short time
- PAULA (8/5): Pleasant - The room was great especially as it was a sea view That no breakfast was available. No staff was at reception to greet us. No member of staff was seen anything during our stay.
- Martha (10/5): We were so grateful you had a room available on the weekend! - Loved the location. The house and room were very charming. And welcoming. And quiet. The room amenities were thoughtful. Couldn’t have been better, really.
- alison (10/5): Perfect Sea View heaven - It is a beautiful example of a well maintained period property with antique furniture and a feeling of grandeur. Nothing!
- Hadnutt (5/5): - Near sea To many stairs bed uncomfortable, door lock hard to use tea making in dark corner, not many biscuits, very old fashion, room cluttered.
- Katarzyna (4/5): Never again! - Location is perfect! Cleanliness is a massive issue! Amount of dust was shocking, everything was covered in it! Bed frame, furniture all around the room, tea tray... Bathroom also dirty with people's hair sticked onto tiles in the shower and dried wee on the toilet seat. Not a clean space in the room! Have a look at the picture of the lamp above the bed! Shocking amount of dust and cobwebs on it! Bedding made of polyester making you sweat and uncomfortable. Poor ventilation in the room and provided fan was also dusty and dirty..very poor lighting and room felt very dark in the evening.
In general poor stay, we didn't change the location only because it was bank holiday weekend and most of places were fully booked. Never again!
- Lloyd (5/5): Lowestoft was a lovely clean and nice place, hotel was in good location - Breakfast was not included or not on offer
En suit bathroom ok New mattress as the one we had to sleep on was poor
And with the window not opening was very stuffy in the night
Which made it difficult to get a good night sleep
- alice (10/5): Recommend - The room was really clean and beds were very comfortable .Brilliant sea view .. We were at the top of the house up four flights of stairs .As we both have mobility issues we struggled.
- Jonathan (9/5): Nice room over beach. - No breakfast offered.
- Charlie (8/5): Very lovely - Location right next to beach
Come and go as you please
Secure Didn’t see any staff - but there was a door code which made me feel secure
- Kelsey (10/5): -
- Diane (9/5): - It was clean, comfortable and interesting. Great location, and very convenient park. Nice friendly and accommodating staff. Nothing
- David (7/5): -
- Jennifer (9/5): A great 3 nights stay at Lowestoft. - Perfect location with easy walking to seafront and Town. All good.
- Glenn (10/5): Superb location for birthday weekend - Spacious , clean and a lovely sea view N/A
- Roger (8/5): -
- george catalin (9/5): Nice short stay. - Is central, close to town centre and the beach Tried Netflix in the lounge but did not work.
- Sadie (10/5): -
- Alison (10/5): Great stay would definately stay again - Perfect Nothing
- Sidonie (8/5): Excellent location, comfortable room. - Convenient location. Lovely sea view. Close to seafront and cafe. It was very hot in the house, although there was a fan provided in the room. The mattress had seen better days, but I am a very poor sleeper, and most things keep me awake.
- Les (5/5): Disappointing. No human contact (for a guest house) but a beautiful house in an ideal location. - Location Advertised as five star, this guest house barely warrants 3 stars. The photographs on Booking.com show a dinning room no meals were offered, that we were aware of. There were no staff around, access was via a keypad, more Air bnb than a guest house.
The carpets were tired and ‘grubby’ there was a musty smell around the house and in the room.
We were left a jug of water, the lid of which hadn’t been washed and the cupboard under the sink in the bathroom also hadn’t been cleaned.
The sofa had a wooden surround that had settled dust on it. The fridge unfortunately didn’t get below 12 degrees.
On the whole the room was tired and in need of a deep clean. We were left approximately an inch of liquid soap in the dispenser. The lighting in the bathroom was appalling.
This is a beautiful house that is in need of some tlc.
The attached photos are only relevant to our room not the lobby or outside.
- Ebin (7/5): -
- Thomas (9/5): -
- john (8/5): We appreciate the old fashioned well preserved character of this house. definitely stay again. - We appreciated the size of the room and bathroom.
Very pleasant old style furniture which suited our style. Particularly liked being able to sit at the table in comfortable chairs at the window and eat our brought in food.
We had not realised that breakfast was available but enjoyed being able to sit and eat looking over the sea.
Ann had taken the trouble to provide a cafetiere for us.
2 additionally comfortable armchairs.
Large tallboy type wardrobe enabled us to stow away our case and keep the room comfortably tidy
- Gregory (7/5): An interesting historic house although there was no actual information about the Britten Family. - Interesting historic house. Excellent location and outlook. Happy not to have the room cleaned before the second night but would have liked the tea tray to have been refreshed.
The room names were rather irrelevant to Benjamin Britten and his family.
Prefer a bath to a shower.
- Nicola (6/5): - Location

Fan in the room. Curtains didn’t meet in the middle by around a foot!
Bathroom needed some extra tlc.
Extremely hot.
Advertised as room with a balcony, it did have one but you couldn’t access it!

- Andrew (10/5): - Everyone was very helpful and very friendly Nothing
