Easy to access and well situated for the area. Atmosphere: The hotel has a modern, updated look. The breakfast/eating area was nice and spacious with a clean, open feel. Overall, the atmosphere felt functional and contemporary, though not especially warm or distinctive. Rooms: Our room was spacious with modern décor. The standout feature was the extra-large bathroom and generous vanity area — an excellent layout, especially for longer stays. The room was clean upon arrival. However, the refrigerator appeared older and made a persistent ticking/compressor noise. Value: As a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Lifetime member, I stay in Marriott properties frequently and have a strong sense of brand standards. Given the nightly rate, paid parking, limited parking availability, and significant sleep disruption from the HVAC system, the overall value did not feel aligned with expectations. Cleanliness: The room itself was clean. However, the shower was missing body wash upon arrival, which required a call to the front desk. Noise Level: This was the primary issue. The HVAC unit was extremely loud and cycled on and off throughout the night. There was no clear way to turn it off completely for sleeping. It repeatedly woke us up. Combined with the ticking refrigerator, it made for a very restless stay. Service: We brought the HVAC noise and missing body wash to the attention of Tiffany and a woman who appeared to be a manager (Scott). Both were polite, but no Bonvoy points or other compensation were offered. Amenities: We arrived just as breakfast was closing. It appeared to be standard Residence Inn fare — nothing special — though the dining area itself was spacious and pleasant. Parking is quite limited: very few exterior spaces, a small garage, and paid parking on top of that, which added to the frustration. Overall: While the location and room layout are definite strengths, the noise issues and parking limitations would lead us to choose another hotel in Durham for future visits.

- Departure07391415738 (10/5): Great experience at Residence Inn - My wife and I stayed at Residence Inn at Marriott. It is just a few minutes from the Duke Cancer Center. The location was ideal. There are plenty of restaurants and a couple of stores within a 10 minute drive. Because I went through Duke Concierge, I was able to find a discount for the room and parking. There is a good atmosphere. The hotel has been updated and the suites are roomy. The continental breakfast is fine with options. What set the tone for this visit was how I was greeted. As soon as I walked into the hotel, Deniasia helped me feel welcomed. She answered my questions and offered suggestions when asked about dinner. The internet didn’t work in the rooms, but Deniasia helped me make sure that everything was hooked up correctly. She always had a smile and she treated me like she was there to help, which added to the overall positive experience.

The location was great for our situation with restaurants within walking distance and a great place to walk (around Duke Campus) right next door. The biscuits and gravy are fantastic as well. However, the best thing about the hotel is its people. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming: front desk, maintenance, breakfast team, housekeeping management and overall management. A special shoutout to Deniasia at the front desk who made us feel welcome from the first time we entered the hotel.

I recently completed a 2 month stay in one of their studio rooms. The frequency of cleaning was appropriate but staff would go out out their way to get you anything additional you might need. Amenities were great, including the gym and bar area. The rooms appeared to be updated recently for a modern feel. The location is excellent if you are looking to explore all that downtown Durham has to offer. And circling back to the staff - I want to give a shoutout to Scottie, Tiffany, and Nana for being so friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Those small touches help significantly when away from home for so long. Looking forward to getting back there soon!

Starting with Tiffani at the front desk and then everyone else we encountered in the 9 days we stayed, staff is exceedingly friendly and welcoming. The hotel is perfectly located close to food, bars, campus, and shopping without the hassle of downtown parking. With a small open lot in back of the building, a covered garage, and a large open lot, there was always space available, no matter when we arrived and it was easy to navigate. This is an older RI property and it shows in some areas. While some upgrades have been made with a well outfitted gym and brand new LG machines in the guest laundry, some of the room furniture was well used and past the point of needing to be replaced. That said, the hotel is clean, convenient, and close to so much downtown. No regrets staying here and would do it again.

She helped us through the rough spots with attention and kindness. We are grateful to Megan for sharing our enthusiasm and excitement over this once in a lifetime event and for her attention to every detail. She made the process quick and easy, but what impressed me most was her personality—warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. She gave me a wonderful room with a view of Main Street and even took the time to get me acquainted with the local neighborhood and amenities. It was one of the best check-in experiences and Tiffany deserves to be recognized for making guests feel right at home.

I felt very welcomed by every employee and the place is CLEAN!!! Breakfast was included. Hot and tasty. And fresh coffee was always available (thank you!!) My only “downer” was the bed was super lumpy. It was ok the first night but by night three I woke up super sore.

Its convenient to a lot and in a unique spot- there's like a fun restaurant section nearby. You would definitely need a car to see most of Durham and to get to Duke. WIth a car it's a good spot for Duke and the rest. The hotel itself had everything you needed. There was like a weird antiseptic smell throughout the lobby which coupled with the starkness/solid features made it feel hospital-like. We were traveling with 5 people (which constrains our options quite a bit) and our room fit 5 pretty well- which is often hit and miss. Breakfast was ok. Overall the hotel worked well for our needs for a reasonable price, which is the reason for staying at a Residence Inn.

Started with parking, you have to pay to park but you have to do it thru a 3rd party not associated with the hotel. Our room reeked of pet odor and not the good kind. Bed was horrible soft with a mattress that should have been replaced a long time ago. Bed squeaked with every toss and turn. Get rid of the outdated coffee pot and get a kcup. Internet was too slow to even use, so had to stay on cell service. Breakfast on a scale of 1-5 was a 1. AC worked and room was quiet, would never stay again, you don’t get do-overs.

However, I gave the hotel 3 stars because the shower lets out so much water that it is actually wasting water. There's no door for the shower, so when you bathe, the water streams out of the shower and onto the bathroom floor. So much water streams out that I had to place the bathmat 12 inches away from the shower entrance so that it wouldn't get wet.

Very bright room with 2 large windows, plenty of space for my husband to work while caring for me, great location to go grab food, and a great area to walk! We had the King Suite, and it was our home for 1 week, and we couldn't have asked for more! The kitchen was great, as was the desk!

- paul49092 (10/5): Great hotel for Duke meetings! - I just hosted a small meeting at Duke and my 12 guests stayed here. Their experience was uniformly excellent and they were very happy. The Director of Sales, Jennifer Parkes, was great to work with throughout the reservation process. Very flexible for our needs. The hotel is recently renovated and has a great, modern feel. My guests said that the complmentary breakfast was very good. And the rooms were very nice. One of the best things about the hotel is its location. Right next to East Campus. Walking distance from Ninth Street amenities and downtown activity, as well as easy access to campus and the campus bus. The overall experience actually exceeded my (high) expectations which is why I decided to write a review.

The adjacent train kept us up every night! - I am a high status Marriott Bonvoy member, and I got assigned a room all the way at the end of the hotel closest to the train tracks, which were less than a block away. The train came through several times a day and a couple times each night, blaring it's horn every time! It was impossible to sleep in this hotel. On two different days I tried to change the room and was told that other people requested also but the hotel was full so they could not accommodate any changes. I am pretty upset that we would have such a terrible room given my status with Marriott Bonvoy. Unfortunately I have plans to visit this hotel again in May so I certainly hope I'll be better cared for then...

She was efficient at checking us in, and also kind in how she spoke to us and others. It is people like her that set the tone from the beginning for those of us coming to a hotel. Also, the beds were very good and provided a great night sleep! Very important! Also the room was clean and the temperature was able to be modified as needed.

- Michael (2/5): Long drive to have my room given away. - After confirming my stay with the Residence Inn Durham by checking in online, then email exchange just hours before my arrival stating “I am on my way and would be there in 2hrs”- then the hotel acknowledging that check in… I got to the front desk at 6:10pm to find out I no longer had a room and was being re-booked at a different, lesser quality hotel 10 mins away. (After driving 9hrs to get there). Utterly ridiculous and I’ll never book a room with them again.

What I did not like is that I requested twice for my room to be clean while I was away on business and it did not happen. Poor customer service with regard to this issue but otherwise the sparse interaction I had with management was fine. I never did receive a follow up call as promised. Also beware if the train that rolls through the town of Durham in the middle of the night. it will awaken you with the blaring horn. Also, there is a $15 per night charge for parking.

East campus — and you can walk to restaurants nearby or drive just a few minutes to even more. Great option for Duke parents and visitors.

- dj10024 (10/5): Heart of Durham close to train and many corporate offices - The hotel was recently renovated and it shows. Rooms were ample and convenience to downtown Durham locations is great. Parking garage is on property and adequate outside parking too (they do charge for parking or you can opt for a rate that includes parking. While the hotel doesn’t appear to be overly large, the elevator tends to get congestion in the morning during breakfast hours and at 5P. There are other elevators for the five floors closer to the garage. No road or train noises. Easy walk to our offices on Main Street. Ample grass areas for staying with a dog.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Dogs or not, stay here - Good stuff: Spacious room, clean, air conditioning, responsive service from front desk, housekeeping, and maintenance (needed a new kitchen light bulb); nice gym; dog poop bags provided; great location for dog-walking (and overall) and green space for dogs. Other stuff: Room phone would not connect to anything when we dialed; breakfast was a decent variety of items but the quality was just the bare and basic including the microwaved frozen burritos. The food staff was as basic as the food and slightly rude. The breakfast times are different by only 30 minutes—-not sure if that small time makes much of a difference or just confuses guests.
