- Tom Peter (8/5): Amazing hosts, so welcoming! Beautiful hotel!!! - Though the staff spoke little to no English, they were extremely kind and happy to help in any way that they could! The barmaid was particularly lovely, she kept checking on me to make sure I had everything I needed.
If you are an English traveler, make sure you have a good translator app. Unfortunately the water didn’t work first thing in the morning and there was no staff to tell.
I spoke to other guests and they said it was the same for them. There are toilets by the outdoor pool… but there is no toilet paper.

- Jacques (10/5): it’s a super chill cool place to stay. And you can’t beat the price. - It felt like an oasis. staff was very friendly and fun.! For the price, so have no complaints!
- Hiram (8/5): Great place and value. Staff was awesome. Breakfast was very good. - Close to e everything I needed. Nothing bad.
- Fredy Alexander (9/5): - Excelente Todo bien
- Maria Margarita (1/5): PESIMA - NADA, POCA HIGIENE, LAS PAREDES Y EL TECHO CON GRANDES GRIETAS. PISCINA SUCIA, AMBIENTE INCOMODO.
- Carlos (10/5): Best and cheap place to stay near to the La Caleta beach. - Enrique, his wife and all the staff were extremely kind people, they were always there for anything we needed. Also, the breakfast was awesome, tasty and the amount of food for a breakfast was stunning. Nothing.
- Dr. (2/5): Very poor - NOTHING EVERYTHING, BATHROOM WAS TERRIBLE
- Leland (7/5): Good -
- Braun (1/5): Another Dominican disaster - Got nothing, WIFI ok by bar area ONLY Again, reserved 1 BR apt, hotel doesn't have any, what's with "Booking.com"? told on arrival that apt was occupied so gave us "room with bed, private bathroom". Bedsheets paint stained, no hot water, no safe, foul smelling, place run down, not sure where pics come from. Have Tortuga Park, many turtles in there, maybe 20, shells moss covered, gross. Included breakfast with sour mangu, cold coffee, stale croissants, served under net as many flies.
- Jianing (9/5): Superb - Good staff, good breakfast. Walking distance to the beach. Good stay!
- Blandon (9/5): Superb - i like the hotel locaton and secure area
- Luzmery (8/5): Very good -
- Timothy (6/5): Pleasant -
- Denise (7/5): Pleasant family run small hotel. - The breakfast was fresh, filling and delicious. Our room was clean, if a bit on the small side.
We didn't realize when we booked that our hosts had little English speaking help and the language barrier was a bit of a problem at times.
Every one was friendly and helpful though and the courtyard was beautiful!
- Lawrence (9/5): Very nice stay - Beautiful room, great breakfast, nice pool. There was drops of water leaking out of the light fixture in my room.
- Robert (6/5): Pleasant - Proximity to the beach. Secure facilities. They were hosting pool parties each day to help with revenue. Accessing the pool was difficult.
- Vladimir (10/5): definitely recommend for long or short staty - Great location and 24 hours security, Enrique is the best host ever. Hotel has nice outlay with pool, bar and des decorated area around. The breakfast was included and it was big and delicious and different every day. For your convenience there is room service for breakfasts or if you order something from restaurant. The restaurant menu has nice variety dishes with affordable prices. Right on the corner there is guagua stop so you can get to everywhere in La Romana for 40 DP or get the uber if you have luggage all good nothing to mention
- Brigitte (6/5): Pleasant -
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Trina (4/5): - We were excited to stay here but it felt very disappointing. At first, the entrance and parking were so hard to find. Then they didn’t know we were arriving. The very nice and polite young lady called the owner while we waited. We were offered a beverage (recommended by her) which we gratefully accepted. We knew there was a welcome drink provided and really, for the delay we should have been provided one. But surprisingly we were charged with the explanation that she was new, our room was ok. The bed was hard and the ac wasn’t working. After I told he owner, he came and checked and told us to let him know if not any better. I’m the end, we were switched rooms. There was a birthday party and the music was really loud. We wanted to partake in the pool but felt that that we would have intruded on the party. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. All in all, we felt that it missed its mark.
- Ikenna (8/5): Very good - Family run business, very nice and good people my Appartement was great!
- Hamed (1/5): Don't go there! - All this hotel is alive!
The hotel was under construction and they were all the time making noises!
I ran away after 1 night and never have been refunded!
All the pictures are phony fake misleading! probably made by the computer aditting!
- JAMES (2/5): - like the climate dislike place and people
- Suheidy (2/5): - Did not meet the minimum requirements of a hotel. Never use it. And cancel my reservation right-away
- Woodlyne (10/5): book this place you won’t regret it. - everything nothing
- Presler (6/5): - It was nice and quiet the area was not that great be i feel safe around there the staff was ok
- Flavia (9/5): Superb - amazing staff, clean rooms, quiet area
- Dennis (6/5): Pleasant -
- Cook (1/5): Bad -
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Muhammad (2/5): - I dont like. Very small and public. Not normal hotel.
- Joseph (8/5): - MUY LIMPIO SERVICIO OKEY ALREDEDOR DEL LUGAR BASURA ENNLA CALLES HOTEL LIMIPIO Y MUY TRANQUILO BUEN PRECIO
- Dalibert (8/5): - Fue bueno
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I usually dint write reviews
But on this one us necesary
So people will know ahead of time.
Roaches in the room
Old AC, with broken fan in front of bed.
Ripped towels
No recepcion
No inglish speaking employees
A mess
This place shoupd only be used as an emergency
And the worst
They charged me 47 dollar
For a room is not worth 10 a night
Avoid this place
- Douglas (8/5): - Clean happy economical stay Very helpful folks
- Verified traveler (10/5): Overnight before going on a cruise - Good basic hotel, very clean and personnel is very friendly. The owner gave us lots of information and the hotel is in a safe location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff is wonderful. Secure parking (especially at night) is a big plus. Close to great restaurants and city center. Pool is very nice and bar is great. Room is clean. Highly recommended.
- Beate (10/5): - I stayed only for 2 Days at the Sol Azul and I loved it a lot....they Way it is build.theStaff was very friendly and helpful. The Room was very clean and so the Outdoor space from the Hotel.Allover just a lovely Place.
Gracias,Merci,Thank you ,Dankeschoen
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel was just right for my needs and even included a pool. Room had just the necessities when would need when going to the area to visit nearby places and you return for bed and relaxation. The pool and breakfast were an added plus. Management was awesome and attentive and the facility has private parking....
- Andrew (8/5): Nice Simple Boutique Hotel near the beach - I took a daytrip to La Romana (from Punta Cana, where I was staying) and reserved this hotel for one night. It is a small, boutique-style property with a cool tropical vibe, nice pool, and solid bar. It's in a quiet little corner a few blocks away from the beach, so it was relaxing. Also, the personalized service is outstanding - they were very welcoming and accommodating. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the wifi and hot water were not really working properly, and to some people that might be a big issue. To me, it wasn't that serious... but in leaving an honest review, I had to at least mention it. Remember, though, this is the Dominican Republic... just like many small hotels in many countries, these inconsistencies are to be expected. Also, for the price, it was on par with what I expected - if you care about small details such as that, you should probably stay in a big resort anyway instead of a local spot like this. My experience overall was still positive - the room was nice (although basic), the atmosphere was very friendly, and the pool bar is a great place to chill out.
- Randal (8/5): A nice place tranquil place - Enrique is a hands on owner with a very clean boutique hotel. Very nice pool area with a nice limited bar/restaurant. Francine is the bomb behind the bar. Everyone was very nice, and accommodating. It's really close to the beach with many restaurants and clubs. It's just far enough away to not be annoyed by the late night loud music.
- Mina (4/5): - We booked this hotel at the last minute as we wanted to travel around the island. Unfortunately when we arrived firstly we were told we could not check in and after some time we were finally allowed access. We had booked a queen room as advertised on hotels.com but were given a very tiny room with a very small bed! We were not impressed at all. The ac did not work and it was extremely hot in the room, the shower had cold water too! The next day we asked to change rooms, it was only slightly better but still no queen bed. After coming back in the evening to our room we found that it had ants crawling around everywhere, we had to move all our stuff and clean the room up before trying to attempt going to sleep. It was a terrible place to stay and totally missed advertised. Although if there was a single positive it was the host Enrique who tried his best.
- Brittany (10/5): - The staff was wonderful. They helped us find a cool Catalina island party/snorkel boat and drove us there. For the price, it is a short walk to the local beach, and it has that authentic Caribbean feel with lively local people. They've got a cool dog named Gibbs!
- Awilda (10/5): - Great for the price. The location is great!! 5 minutes walk to the beach and the restaurants. The area is very safe. We had great stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): Genuine - We spent a day in La Romana and loved the location of Sol Azul. It was within walking distance of the beach where we were able to find some good food and enjoy the waterfront. The best part of our stay was the help that Enrique (the owner and manager) was willing to give to us as his guests. He took us in his personal car to run an errand and he made phone calls for us in an effort to book a tour and make sure we were taken care of. You don't meet many people as personable as he is, it definitely made our stay that much more enjoyable.
- Fernando (10/5): Excellent service! - Since we arrived at the hotel, Enrique who is the owner of the hotel, provided us with an excellent service, he booked tours for us to Isla Catalina and Isla Saona for a very good price, and gave us the best advices about places and restaurants to visit. We had a very good time here and we strongly recommend this hotel, thanks again to Enrique and all the friendly staff!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A characterful hotel in a great location about 5 mins walk from the beach and a strip of bars and restaurants mostly frequented by friendly locals. The hotel itself is a little tired but the manager is quietly improving it. Thoroughly recommended but don't expect 5* luxury. The manager is very helpful and friendly and I am sure will do everything to make your stay a pleasant one
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice Hotel and staff close to the beach - Hôtel is very affordable close to the beach.
Staff is very helpful.
Room is clean.

- Vera (8/5): - I liked it. Nothing to complain. Wi fi works and is free 24hours a day.
Recomendo a quem for a La Romana.
- Verified traveler (4/5): false advertising - The pictures are not the reality! Very disappointed
- Matthew (8/5): - The owner of this hotel is very friendly and helpful and good at communicating.
He is fluent in English, French, Spanish, Dutch and other languages.
He has been in the country over 25 years and helpful with information.
- Emil Stenmark (10/5): Outside the beaten path - Great place to stay at if you are on a budget and want to hang out with the locals. The food there is among the best we had on our entire holiday! John is full of experience and funny stories, and became a good friend of ours. Very helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Dominican expierence - We stayed two nights in Sol azul and had a great time. The beach and seafood restaurants are really close by a 5 minute walk. The owner John was very kind and helpful and also Papo- the bell boy. We had a great real dominican expierence by staying in Sol Azul!
- Giuseppe (8/5): Simple structure, but good value for money - We spent a couple of nights in this hotel, while waiting to catch a cruise ship leaving from La Romana Port (the hotel is about 15 minutes drive from the port and from the airport). The structure is quite simple but clean, very quite in the night. The owner (a Dutch gentleman) lives in the hotel and directly takes care of the services (all the staff is very attentive and friendly) and is always available to supply any need of assistance (information, taxi services, etc.). The hotel is just a few minutes walk from Caleta beach, area with small restaurants and nice beach (even though it would need to be more carefully cleaned after the weekends). Anyway, food at the hotel was also good and well priced. We have not found any mosqitos in the hotel and our room window was anyway protected.
We shall come back when for similar circumstances we will have to spend some nights in La Romana area.
Netti toimi hyvin.
- Willie (8/5): - John his staff was friendly with good customer service. Nice pool and clean.
- travis (8/5): rustic hotel by the ocean in a local town - If you have a little adventure in you this place was great. The reviews are accurate. We had a great little dinner a block away by the beach. The room was clean and comfortable. John was a gracious host and very helpful.
- Jose (6/5): Good small hotel close to the beach - I stayed there for three nights for work purposes. The hotel is simple and clean, don't expect any luxury. The services are provided by the owner himself (a very friendly person, he lives in the property btw). The included breakfast is simple (bread, cheese, jelly, coffee and juice) but very good. The hotel is really close to Caleta beach so you can go there, get something to eat, have a swim or just stay watching the landscape.
The only cons I have with this hotel are:
The neighborhood where it's located have really damaged streets, so if it rains it can get really messy. It also gets really dark in the night.
There are a lot of mosquitoes in the property and the room windows don't have any protection for that, so you better leave those windows closed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): nice hotel with friendly owner and staff - The hotel is nice. The owner is kind and very helpful, who speaks multiple languages. The food is delicious, the bar very reasonably priced. Good value for money.
- Jon (8/5): Convenient and pleasant - This hotel is an hour's drive from the airport at Punta Cana, on the outskirts of La Romana, convenient for driving toward Santo Domingo or Samana. The hotel itself is a small-ish compound with pool, bar, and five rooms. Quiet enough for a good night's sleep. The owner is particularly friendly and helpful.
- Nicole (6/5): Quiet pleasant place to stay. - My husband and I stayed here for one night on our drive from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana. The hotel was easy to find despite being in a less developed part of town. When we arrived at the hotel our room was ready and the owner made sure that we had everything we needed and oriented us to the area. Food at the hotel was good and well priced. The public beach and several restaurants were within walking distance of the hotel. The town of La Romana was a quick drive away. The only complaint we had was that the shower faucet didn't work properly but the owner said he was in the process of fixing this.
- amanda (8/5): - I stayed here for one night. I didn't like the neighborhood that much but the hotel itself was good. The owner is a dutch man so it's a plus for me! The room was clean and the service is great. Would definitely recommend staying here.
- Denny (10/5): Sol Azul - My stay was excellent! Got a chance to meet the owner, John, and he was very friendly. The room was ver good for the price and the staff was superb. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for great value and great service.
