- Korina (10/5): - This historic Inn is lovely, very well appointed & restored accommodations. Excellent service, beautiful upgrade to the property a few years ago. It’s a really quirky and interesting little town with areas of interest to explore, if you stay here, definitely take the time to walk across the bridge it’s a beautiful view. That being said there aren’t really any restaurant options that then other than the hotel but they’re closed during the week in the off-season. The town itself is really unusual and odd but if you’re up here to see the redwoods or drive the avenue it’s a nice place to stay.

- Andras (8/5): - Very well appointed hotel, bespoke & to the untrained eye pretty consistently mid-century modern in appearance ( maybe except for the weird ornate wardrobe ) furniture, great staff, wished the rooms including the bathroom had more surfaces, maybe a larger desk. The shared spaces are immaculate, The bath faucet would direct at most 10% of the otherwise great temp and pressure water to the shower head.
- Madalyn H (6/5): - there are no elevators. The women at the front desk told us we would have to carry our suitcases up the 2+ flights of stairs. No air conditioning and the room was boiling hot when we entered. Had to call to find out there was a fan in the closet. Morning desk clerk was very helpful though.

- Brock (10/5): - We loved our time here. We loved the historic vibes and the mid century modern aesthetic that was nice compliment to the craftsman building. We were welcomed with a drink at check-in and also had some complimentary beverages in the fridge in the room. Beds were comfy. showers were excellent with serious water pressure. Something to change? I would work on a better way to filter/clean out the provided pour over coffee (which was local and terrific). Drinks at the onsite bar were great. Would we stay here again? Absolutely, we're looking forward to our next visit.

The scenery is beautiful there ARE bigger cities nearby. If you are looking for some peaceful, relaxation this is your place.

- Shannon (10/5): - The Scotia Inn was beautiful. Within driving distance of some nice spots to visit like the Avenue of the Giants and down the street was a few really good eating spots. There is a convenience store across the street that was really convenient too. We also ordered some local pizza (at the suggestion of a ln inn staff) and hanging around the Inn for the afternoon was quiet and a good vibe. Definitely recommend! Only "complaint" I'd have was no AC but also no screens in the windows. We're not from Cali so maybe that's normal, but we never felt comfortable leaving the windows open at night. Fortunately the room would cool down enough and they provide a fan.
- kirstenmassey (10/5): Great stay!! - This place is a little gem. We took longer on the road than expected, so didn't arrive til close to 10pm. Not sure if this is typical hours for the front desk worker, but she called me right as we were pulling in to make sure we were coming. She greeted us with 2 spirits and a smile! Very friendly and helpful. We didn't realize there wouldn't be air conditioning, but the large fan in the closet got us thru the night, and then we were a little chilly in the morning! We were also pleasantly surprised by the downstairs common area where we had our choice of many community books and board games, and ordered what turned out to be a really yummy breakfast! Can't remember the item name, but it was a stuffed breakfast biscuit that was so delicious! We played some Battleship while we had breakfast. We were on a very long road trip, so just stayed one night. I will point out, there is no elevator - so if you're like us and had 3 large bags, you'll have to carry them upstairs! Wasn't that big of a deal, as we are healthy:) But just letting other travelers know. Great place to stay, really happy with how it turned out1

- Lisa (10/5): Beautiful, great service. - Gorgeous hotel!!! The front desk staff were excellent and the lobby area was beautiful, the restaurant was closed but the “small bites” offered by the front desk were delicious and very reasonably priced. The room was very clean. The only thing was that *every* flat surface in the rooms is wood….the nightstands, tables, console under the TV, floor…and sometimes drinks and ice buckets sweat, and there are no coasters or anything so there’s nowhere to set drinks that you don’t worry about damaging the beautiful wood accents. But other than that minor thing, highly recommend and would absolutely stay there again.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. This is a very cool experience and my family and I enjoyed it so much that we extended our stay.

They have the best hospitality and the staff are so nice and helpful, they made everything so special for me and my wife. They decorated our room, brought some drinks and little gifts, we booked some massages and it was amazing. We definitely plan to be back!

The rooms are spacious and well decorated, staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and its located right off highway 101 with easy access to all of Humboldt County. Great for those who appreciate historic hotels and vintage vibes. Extra great if you happen to love Twin Peaks/David Lynch—very those vibes.
- christina (6/5): - I really wanted to love this place. There were rooms available last minute. We were able to get a two room suite for cheaper than two separate rooms at any of the other places in the area.The building was really beautiful and the rooms were cute. The staff we met were helpful and very nice. The room came with a couple free drinks and chocolates, which was a nice touch. The rooms, bathroom, and common areas were clean. The not so great stuff: The beds were uncomfortable. If noise bothers you, this is not the place to stay. One of the windows banged around with every gust of wind and did not block any sound out. We were able to stop the banging with a little piece of toilet paper. Also, the water pressure in the shower was very weak and there wasn't really anywhere to set stuff down near the sink, which was mostly bothersome because the toilet didn't have a lid, so if you set something it could easily fall into the toilet. Also, one of the reasons we chose this hotel was that it was supposed to have a restaurant, but it wasn't open during the hours indicated. The bar was also not open. The person at the front desk was really helpful though and suggested a couple places not far away. We didn't really see any other guests, so maybe we were there in the off season or something, but it would have been nice to know in advance.

- Arwen (8/5): - Very interesting and well restored older property. Currently no restaurant or food on site. Grocery just across the street. Easy drive to options in neighboring communities. Closest property to Humboldt Redwoods and amazing hiking. Be prepared for lots of stairs and no AC. Bed was comfortable. We booked a suite with two bedrooms and one bath in between. Not really suited for 4 adults, better for family with kids. Probably would have preferred two separate room but price was right. Overall, enjoyed our brief stay.

Beautiful lawn covered in white flowers. Drove over to Fortuna for DELISH pizza at Paul's Live from NY. Fantastic pit stop on our NorCal drive!
- Wendy (8/5): - Loved the history of the hotel! It is lovingly restored. Bed was comfy. Staff was wonderful!! Just a couple of suggestions, there was no hair dryer for the bathroom. The bathroom needed someplace to set things down and/or hang toiletry bag and towels. There was no A/C in the room, which was fine for this time of year, but room was a little stuffy so wanted to open the windows for some air circulation-there are no screens on the windows so I didn’t feel very safe doing so. Also at other times of the year could be quite buggy.

The grocery store across the street makes great fresh sandwiches. The rooms are unique, quiet, and well appointed. There was a very nice sitting area just outside the door of our room. The staff persons were all nice, accommodating, we enjoyed our arrival refreshment. If you want to stay in a peaceful, historic building, this lodge woorks well.

- Janine (8/5): - This is a really beautiful hotel, set in stunning scenery. The interior is really carefully thought out and designed for entertainment. Unfortunately it was very quiet during our stay (Tuesday-Thursday) so I hope it’s just because it was mid-week and early in the season. The main disappointment was that there was no food offering in the hotel. The restaurant opens Friday and Saturday, but this isn’t made clear on the website. We had to go out for food, which was ok but after a long drive we had hoped we could just kick back in the hotel. There is a grocery store opposite the hotel, which has a good deli counter and you can also buy hot coffee from there.

- Jolyn (10/5): - The inn is located just a few miles North of Humboldt Woods - a great place to start from. The property was nicely refurbished in styles from the 1920's. Our stay was a nice change of pace from modern hotels. Everything was in perfect condition. We were disappointed that the restaurant and bar had been closed, but there are plenty of restaurants 15 minutes away by car.

No table in the rooms to sit and eat. No counter in the bathroom for our toiletries. This hotel is over 100 years old. It’s different from our typical hotels.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Historical building- disappointing - We didn't know how old this place was when we found it on the website. Over 100 years. Cold and rainy when we arrived. The lobby was freezing cold, no space heaters. The website also didn't say the restaurant has been closed for 2 years. Room was clean, antique furniture was nice, clawfoot tub/shower. Room was freezing. We turned on the radiator heating following the directions, left for 2 hours to go two towns away for dinner. The room was still freezing. The desk clerk offered us a space heater. It helped. Radiator never did work. Guest rooms are on the 2nd floor but no elevator. Steep stairs, too. Ice machine didn't work. Website said breakfast available. Not really. They had some frozen items you could ask for and they would microwave it for you. We drove the half hour-ish to the iHop in Eureka. It was unique but we wouldn't stay there again. If you go in summer there's no AC. We were really disappointed with it overall.

Many many other complaints but the staff is not one of them. The hotel owners need to update the website and travel listing and stop being dishonest.

- gayleb476 (8/5): A little gem with so much potential - So much potential. First, the rooms are clean and modern, the lobby is beautiful and there is a bar/apps on the weekends during the winter. The town of Scotia doesn't have much, but the hotel is located across the street to a grocery store and gas station. It is also located perfectly at the end of the Avenue of the Giants. We pulled up and almost left because NO ONE was in the parking lot but us. Since we couldn't get our money back we decided to just go in and check it out before leaving. Glad we did, the staff were so nice and friendly, the room was clean and modern with nice little offerings. The water pressure was great in the shower. During our one night stay there were a total of 8 adults in the hotel... so it was QUITE. I guess only the 2nd floor is rented out and the 3rd floor has never been renovated. The lodge is a unique little gem for sure. The down side is there is very basic menu of mostly fried and microwaved food... the receptionist ALSO cooks the food, LOL. She is so nice and friendly, and honestly the chicken wings were good. Also, the food/bar hours are VERY limited (bartender was great). SO... we knew this going into the place as I had done a lot of research, but some people find this off putting. There is a town about 10 minutes down the street that offers restaurants. We didn't go, the chicken wings and fantastic cocktails hit the spot. I would 100% recommend this place, as it is a must see, BUT, just know, food is limited, very close to the road and located in a mill town with no real "downtown" that we saw.

There are signs all around the property for the non-existent restaurant. The rooms are cute and cozy but not functional. It has a great feel to it, but I'm trying to understand the vibe of plastic plants all over the rooms (literally 5 of them) but no useful shelving or drawers. The free drinks are mixed up with those for sale. There are lots of sitting areas on the first floor but none are very comfortable. I get mixed messages from this place.

But it’s well located on the edge of avenue of the giants and worth it if that’s where you’re going. The restaurant is closed but there are others nearby

Lack of these was offset by a great room rate, but would have paid more to have food available. Overall, it was a beautiful old lodge and I would reccomend them.

The history of the town is interesting. I would recommend eating dinner before arriving as there are not a lot of restaurant choices. They do charge $30 for amenities, but through Expedia, making last minute reservations, I thought the price was fair compared to other options within 25 miles of this location. Also, There is a general store across the street.

- Jennifer (8/5): - Scotia Lodge is a very special property that has been lovingly restored by the couple behind Humboldt Social. Their attention to detail is evident in little touches like locally sourced antiques paired with high style midcentury reproduction furniture (and antiques). I loved the in-room pour over coffee and claw foot bathtub in my two bedroom suite, but I missed both a hairdryer and body lotion. The staff were all super attentive and amazing. We will definitely be back! This is a great place for families and couples. It’s quiet—though there was a street brawl (local miscreants, apparently) when we pulled up. It would make an excellent venue for a destination wedding.

Windows only open about 6in. Tiny tiny rooms definitely not worth the money. Town had 0 options minus the gas station. You can definitely find a much cheaper room that has a lot more of everything. The history of the building is really neat!
- SRubinovich (6/5): Fine, but didn't live up to the rave reviews - We had high expectations, based on the previous reviews, and we were underwhelmed. The building is pretty and well-maintained. We took a premium king room, which was certainly large enough, and the bed was very comfortable. All the rooms are on the second floor, and there is no elevator. This was one stop on an extended road trip for us, so we have a lot of luggage. We had to repack into daypacks in the parking lot, rather than in the comfort of our room. If you are just on a weekend getaway, the walk up with an overnight bag would be no problem. There were no towels in the room when we arrived. There is no AC, so we opened the window, but there are no screens. When we called to ask for towels, we asked if there were lots of mosquitos at night, and the clerk was somewhat non-commital. However, she did tell us there was a large fan in the closet, and it did provide enough cooling overnight. There is no restaurant in the hotel. They serve a limited variety of bar snacks. The choice of restaurants in the area is also very limited, and most close at 8 PM. The complementary breakfast is coffee and small, very sweet, banana muffins. There is no milk or cream, only sweetened liquid Coffee Mate. When I asked if there was any milk or cream, I was told I could buy some at the market across the street. The bathroom was large and had a charming claw foot tub with a wrap around curtain and a shower faucet. Getting in and out of the tub could be a challenge for guests with any mobility issues. There was nothing terrible about the lodge. It was a clean, quiet, comfortable place to sleep. It simply did not live up to the rave reviews, IMHO.
- 802alisiat (8/5): historic, but that's about it - cute, historic hotel. the stairs are very creaky. Nice area to sit and hang out around the hotel. There isn't really anything around the area. More so of a location to stay at while passing through the coast. Could only watch local channels on TV and staff leaves around 830 every night. We enjoyed the complimentary drinks and spirits. States breakfast is available, but we were surprised to find it was just a microwaved breakfast sandwich you could get at a gas station. Shower was a claw tub that was a little tight if you were over 5 feet tall. We thought the hotel was gorgeous, but wish there was a little more love put into our stay.
- jsknc (10/5): Great old hotel - Awesome hotel in Scotia! Clawfoot tub was great! Coffee and breakfast very good. The staff are wonderful. Had a great stay and slept like the dead! I don’t have my dog with me but lots of people did and it’s great they accept pets. Wish we could have stayed longer.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Scotia Lodge is great, however they no longer have a restaurant and the bar is only open 2 nights a week. The town of Scotia doesn’t have much except for a gas station and a market, so for food you have to drive to another town. The breakfast items are just frozen food that they heat up for you. Coffee was good though, and the staff is very friendly. Beds were comfortable and rooms were neat and clean. Because of the lack of things to do in the town I would probably drive a little further north and stay in a different town, but the lodge itself is wonderful for a place to sleep. Did not use the spa services so I don’t know how they are.
- Anna (10/5): Love this place! - Second time here and it's always magical. The hotel gives the best vibes and really is a relaxing stay. We've booked the family suite both times and we genuinely enjoy our stay. We only wish it wasn't a pass through stop. Traveling w kids isnt always easy but this place is awesome. A welcome drink and CBD gummies in the gift shop hits the spot. Eel River Brewing is about 10 min drive and a great spot for dinner. The charm and the claw foot tub make this a place we will continue to come back to each year.

- Rochelle (8/5): - This property is in a very convenient location. It is an easy on and off from the freeway. The updates they have done to the property are awesome. I loved the design. The beds are extremely comfortable! There are just a couple things that would have made our stay a little more enjoyable. Just a small selection for continental breakfast would have been great. Also, the hallways could use a little more lighting. Overall, a very nice property with a great story and we really enjoyed our stay.

- kikicruz6 (10/5): Very comfy and fun stop on redwoods tour - If you like the Kimpton/Graduate vibe of refurbished historic buildings, the Scotia Inn is a must-visit. Our premium king room was huge, quaint, comfy. As other reviewers have noted, there are few dining options left, and the “resort fee” is egregious. If anyone in your party is in recovery, ask them to remove the “free” whiskey & vodka in decanters and the sizable pay-to-play liquor bottles! OTOH, if you’re a coffee lover who knows how to use a gooseneck and Chemex, you’re in for a treat as the local roast provided is excellent. Value is decent compared to the chain motels and twee B&Bs in Eureka. It’s about half an hour from there. Great one-night stop between the various redwoods parks. It would be hard to justify more than one night, since such a trip would take you farther north or south on 101 to the next beautiful hike. I hope they make it, as the place was almost empty on a Saturday in June.
- Zuri (8/5): - Beautiful furniture, lovely big rooms. However, dining options are almost non existent (two restaurants in site but one menu with pre made frozen pizza and pre made sandwiches) that’s for dinner btw. Spa seemed closed. No hairdryer. Odd. And it’s very off the beaten path, the closest town looks a bit unsafe. It’s overall a good choice, a bit overpriced and oh the bed! Dips in the middle :(
