Guest Reviews
- kelly (9/5): Excellent, food staff and location is perfect. - The rooms are big and spotless. The bathrooms need updating.
- Miriam (9/5): -
- HARRIET (7/5): Beautiful setting and friendly staff - The Greyhound is situated in a beautiful village. Rooms are lovely and spacious but getting a bit "tired". Breakfast was good and staff very friendly We ate as part of a large group on Saturday night and it was chaotic even though we had pre-ordered our choices. Pub was completely closed on Sunday evening so couldn't even have a dink
- goodrich (9/5): -
- Kevin (8/5): Staff were lovely, food was fantastic . Meat fridge was an added bonus - Ideally situated to explore the Jurassic coast and in a lovely Dorset village
- Anthony (9/5): - Great location Excellent food.

Fixtures in room almost broken
Bathroom very poor
Breakfast poor, staff not interested, poor service

- Deborah (9/5): Peaceful stay, great food, beautiful village - Choice was good though no vegan option…? They were very open and flexible to me asking for a slight variation to a dish Nothing I didn’t like
- William (9/5): Lovely traditional pub with friendly service in a beautiful part of the country. - Beautiful property in a stunning part of the country- a wonderful location and very friendly and personable staff. The village is beautiful and great for an early morning walk. Fantastic food in the pub and great quality, fresh real ales.
Will definitely look to stay again if in the area. I couldn't get the wifi in the room to work, but as it wasn't really an issue I forgot to try and get it sorted. The breakfast is amazing, but unfortunately not available before 08:00- not a massive problem for us as we often have to check out early for work.

- David (8/5): Had a great time , a really pretty village and got to chat with some of the locals . Look forward to a return visit - Made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived . We were a party of 7 and all felt very positive.
Loved the open log fire burning continuously . Autumnal chills started and the fire contributed to the welcoming feel Tendency to turn the coffee machine behind the bar off about 9.30 pm .
- Sat_findee (9/5): We enjoyed the stay apart from breakfast letting it down some what - Location and staff brilliant. Lovely setting in the village and easy to get to. The breakfast let it down. The first morning the full english was good, but my partner had the scrambled eggs with the smoked salmon. which was ice cold coming straight from the fridge onto a cold plates so the egg was cold very soon.
The full English ion the 2nd morning, the black puddimg and beans were very dry and the toasted sweet cake was not good for breakfast
- William (10/5): Great location, lovely pub, super staff, quality beer and amazing food. - Good location, cosy, clean Nothing
- Alan (7/5): -

- Matthew (9/5): Lovely country pub/restaurant/B&B - Set in beautiful countryside.
A wonderful lovingly maintained garden
Warm and friendly professional staff.
Food was excellent and fairly priced for the quality and care taken by the kitchen staff.
- brentonalex (10/5): - Nice location, beautiful cosy pub I felt like a home living room very well out together lovely staff lovely pub dog excellent rooms and breakfast Nothing
- Christopher (8/5): - Very pleasant mine host and friendly breakfast cook; comfortable room; (but bathroom daddy longlegs spider by wash-basin could perhaps have been rehoused). A nice overnight stay at a reasonable price
- Chris (9/5): -
- Erica (3/5): A curates egg - some lovely food and service but unfortunately marred by the accommodation. - The breakfast was excellent and the evening meal very good. The servers at dinner and breakfast were very attentive and cheerful. There was strange odour in the bedroom - slightly damp and fetid. Unfortunately we had an interrupted night sleep due to a faulty/noisy extractor fan in the room below which was turned on 6 times through the night. It ran for 5 minutes each time and woke us both on each occasion. The issue was raised with staff but unfortunately I was told that there was not a problem until my partner demonstrated it to the owner. My partner was told that the room below was due to be refurbished in the next two weeks.
- Elaine (4/5): - This property is tired and needs better management no TV remote working in room waiting times for evening meal was very poor and expensive for a pub did not have all the breakfast menu
- Philip (10/5): Very friendly had a nice time - Very good No juice and mushrooms
- Elizabeth (10/5): -
- Michelle (6/5): Nice pub in a good location - Staff were lovely. Nice pub and great location. Clean. Accommodation needs updating as looking very tired.
- Joanna (8/5): -
- Michael (10/5): Gem of a pub and B&B - What a lovely village pub. The staff were really friendly and breakfast was excellent. The room was a little tired and a little small, but good value for money. Would certainly visit again.
- henry (7/5): ,, - Bar areaexcellent full of character but bedroom not modern enough for wife bedroom
- Verena (9/5): Lovely, helpful staff who made our stay very enjoyable. - Very nice Pub
- Adam (10/5): - A beautiful pub with stunning garden and setting, great food and beer selection. Staff are really helpful and attentive. Rooms are a little old but still very comfy and have everything you need. I stayed for business in the area but a great place for a holiday stop as well!
- richard (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (8/5): Pleasent. - Very friendly staff.
Good breakfast choice
Good evening meal quality and choice. Shower
Duvet to hot.
- Geraldine (8/5): - Staff and food - lovely pub and garden
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Frances (10/5): Rural accommodation, great pub with a friendly atmosphere. Will return again - The accommodation was comfortable and clean, staff were friendly and helpful - especially as we checked in early
- Susan (8/5): - Good choice while house-hunting in the area. Quiet clean room with ample breakfast options and a good restaurant for an evening meal. Missed having a shower - bath only.
- Lene (10/5): Lovely - Stayed here a few times and it is lovely
- Karl (10/5): I will definitely stay again - Perfect location in the village. Clean rooms and very comfy bed
- Stephen (8/5): Very good - Staff were very friendly and fliexible. Nice quiet location. Breakfast was good though the sausages could do with being better quality. The room overlooked the car park so privacy was difficult without completely closing the curtains which isn't always convenient
- Matthew (10/5): Charming Place - A very lovely pub in a picturesque village. Spacious rooms, friendly staff, very good food and a broad selection of wines and beers. I arrived just in time for the last dinner order, thankfully. Breakfast was included in my stay and was also very nice. The pub is very homely, warmly lit and has a classic village inn feel. The bathroom in my room could probably benefit from a slight cosmetic improvement but that is a minor point on what was overall a pleasant but brief stay.
- Michael (7/5): Lovely old building - The staff were really nice , very helpful at breakfast. The meal in the restaurant was very good and we had the Continental breakfast which was very nice . The bedroom was okay but the bathroom let it down. Very old shower with lots of damp areas and flaking paint on the ceiling . Needs replaced !
- Alan (8/5): Comfortable stop-over in very pleasant area of Dorset. - The breakfast was very good, room accessible earlier than normal check-in time, bed comfortable and staff friendly. Plenty of car parking on-site. The room smelt damp and we discovered a de-humidifier in the room, which suggested that this was a known issue. It wouldn't work however, as was too full of water. The bedside chair was worn out and the room really required a make-over.
- Michael (9/5): A lovely stay in a very nice property in a beautiful village. - Breakfast and lunch were lovely.
- Katrina (2/5): - Got there to find the bar etc shut at 6. This pub is in the middle of no where was not offered a drink as a resident and no food, not even a sandwich.
- Rachel (8/5): Very good -
- Giselle (8/5): Lovely location and wonderful with dogs. - It’s in a lovely location and they’re very dog friendly I wish they would update the bathrooms and rooms a little.
And also have better options for vegans for desert and breakfast
- Iwona (9/5): Superb - The Greyhound Inn is a charming pub/hotel in a beautiful location, convenient for Dorchester. A walk along the nearby stream is recommended for the birds and fish!
- Paul (10/5): Amazing Experience Thanks to Thea and Great Food - I had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The rooms were comfortable, and the service was absolutely amazing. Thea was fantastic and really made the experience special. The food was great, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone. The personal touch throughout the stay was a breath of fresh air.
- Lesley (5/5): Passable - The staff were very friendly, and the breakfast was great and bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, the bedrooms are looking a bit dated and the bathroom ceiling was covered in black-mould. The sink and bath looked like they hadn’t been cleaned with orange stains around the plug holes.
- Sean (8/5): Very good - The village is very pretty. The aircon unit was very useful in the heatwave. Was expecting a bit more for breakfast.
- Julie (9/5): Beautiful stay in idyllic surroundings - Staff- excellent, very welcoming and friendly
Room- cosy, great tea and coffee selection, beds comfortable
Car parking included
Food - breakfast choices excellent and food was very good I'm being picky... a lamp would have been nice so I didn't have to get out of bed to turn the light off, and a fan as it was very hot.
- SUSAN (10/5): Lovely stay - A lovely stay at the greyhound.Staff really helpful special mention for Thea who was bright and cheerful every morning. Breakfast was excellent and we really enjoyed our dinner one evening. Had lovely weather so able to sit outside under the grape vines. We would definitely stay again if in the area.
- Emily (9/5): welcoming staff, great atmosphere and wonderful food - welcoming staff, great atmosphere and wonderful food the bathroom could have been nicer, but it was clean and everything worked
- Michael (8/5): A very enjoyable two night stay. - An excellent pub with rooms in a beautiful picturesque Dorset rural village. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner as a couple, and a family reunion lunch for seven. Management and staff were very helpful and pleasant. Our double room was spacious and clean.
- Lene (10/5): - What a fantastic place, loved everything about it.
- Wentworth (10/5): Perfect location, food and service - All the staff without exception were welcoming, friendly and had a keen attention to what was required and when it was required. They could have been trained by the best hospitality and catering college in the country but was is more remarkable is that they all learned their craft in the job. The food was excellent. The establishment was all about service which tends to be a rare feature these days. The room was a little tired and the shower could do with an upgrade
- Brigitte (8/5): Very good - Easy check in.
Great dinner and breakfast
- Colin (10/5): Peaceful and enjoyable for us and our four legged friend. - Beautiful location in a sleepy village with a chalk trout stream running through it. Even had a working phone box!
Very very dog friendly. Nothing, we had a lovely stay.
- Melissa (10/5): Love dogs!!!!! - Friendly and helpful staff! Love all the dogs that live and visit there, fantastic food, great atmosphere to enjoy and relax!
- Karen (9/5): Superb -
- Ray (7/5): Great accommodation - The location was ideal for our purposes, within easy reach of the major towns, whilst retaining the country retreat feel. Both lunch and breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately for us, and maybe we should have checked, but the Greyhound closes on the Sunday evening, therefore we were obliged to eat earlier than intended. That said the meal was most enjoyable.
- Stephanie (6/5): - The inn is adorable, if remote. Taxis from the train station are a bit tricky to get and expensive. Staff was fantastic and a lot of fun. Breakfast is great.
Main issue is that my room absolutely reeked of tobacco. My "non smoking room" was definitely a smoking room at some point. I choked from the moment I arrived. After 48 hours all of my clothes smell horrible and I have to be in the UK for work for another three days. I could leave the windows open, but giant spiders were coming in. No other source of ventilation. The property desperately needs to re-do the carpet, wall paper, everything. I hate leaving this review because the place is otherwise charming and this inn seemed much better than the nearby hotels my friends were staying in. But until this problem is fixed, avoid the "Teddy" room. I'm going to be searching for febreeze.
The other issue is that every time I tried to order food that wasn't breakfast, I was told the kitchen was too busy. There are no other food options for miles. So bring some snacks - I wish I did! It's doubly disappointing because the food on the website looks absolutely fantastic.
- STUART ROBERT (8/5): A lovely break in Dorset - Shower no hot water first day then for the other two days water warm but not not much above a dribble. The food and the restetaunt were excellent as were the staff. The bedrooms need an upgrade.
- Traditional (9/5): Superb - Great service, great food, nice sized rooms, lovely location.
- D (9/5): Superb -
- Joseph (10/5): - This is an excellent dog friendly property! Made us and our two greyhounds very much at home.
- Annice (9/5): Superb -
- David (9/5): We felt very fortunate to have chosen such a lovely place to stay - Excellent nothing
- Emily (9/5): Superb - Location amazing, staff very friendly, very good breakfast Room and bathroom was a little tired in places
- Sonia (9/5): Lovely staff lovely location - Breakfast is very good
- Elizabeth (9/5): Beautiful location, lovely food & great staff - Breakfast was lovely
Staff were so polite and friendly
- Michael (8/5): Perfectly acceptable for a short break in the Dorsetshire countryside - Very nice breakfast with a good range to choose from and nice spacious bedroom. The pot of tea at breakfast was not very warm and seemed stewed even with the extra hot water we requested and sourdough toast is a bit too hard for some people's teeth!
- Saleem (8/5): Perfect place to stay! - Staff were polite, patient and very helpful. Room was nice, clean and quite large on ground floor, our evening meal was delicious as was our breakfast. Check in/out was quick. Parking was available in the resident parking lot. Comp tea/coffee, biscuits and water. Bed was very comfortable. Woukd definitely stay there again! There was nothing to dislike overall. However, the bathroom could use some updating, and although we didn’t watch TV, it was quite small, only 30 inches and placed quite a distance to the bed
- Kirsty (1/5): Lovely pub but terrible night's sleep. - Food was excellent, and good value. Staff very friendly and extremely helpful. Very very very drunk guests banging around all night.
Mouldy window blind.
Erratic hot water. NOT due to the switch by the door not being turned on. We did check.
- Rob (9/5): Superb -
- Stewart (9/5): Superb - Set in a beautiful village, lovely place to stay, comfy and clean. Friendly staff, great breakfast. Would definitely stay again.
- John (8/5): Typical country inn located in a beautiful village. - This inn is located in the heart of an iconic country village deep in the heart of Dorset. The sleeping rooms are in a separate building from the pub/restaurant so are very quiet; they are nicely furnished and up to date. Breakfasts are cooked to order, and very tasty. The staff are friendly and helpful. Not a "dislike" per se, just a warning. The pub/restaurant is closed Sunday afternoon and evenings. If this coincides with your arrival/check-in, you must call ahead to make arrangements. There is no food available at that time so you should eat elsewhere or bring something with you (Sunday nights only). (The host offered to prepare something for me but I had enough snacks in the car to get me through to the morning.)
- Will (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (8/5): Friendly country inn in a beautiful village - Beautiful village nestling amongst the hills of Hardy country. Good breakfast and friendly dining options in the pub Room wasn’t serviced during a three night stay. Not a huge problem, but complimentary tea and coffee sachets weren’t replenished
- Tammy (10/5): What a pleasant surprise!! - Wow, what a pleasant surprise The Greyhound was. The staff 5 make this place. All of them, which is quite unusual, were fantastic...absolute credit to Greyhound.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (5/5): Lovely staff and location- room was tired and needed some redecoration/ upgrade - Lovely location, lovely pub . Delicious food - really welcoming delightful staff.. Accommodation needed some repair . Shower was cold and did not drain. Mould on blinds .
- Gary (7/5): Overall good value for money - Nice quiet location. Ample parking.
Nice food with good service The room was dated and in need of a refurb
- massimo (10/5): Excellent choice - Excellent stay; the staff was incredibly supportive, and we enjoyed the superb quality of traditional food at the restaurant
- Julie (5/5): For the price , I expected lov produce food and basic a clean room. - Location beautiful
Parking Room very unclean. Cobwebs behind bed and chest of drawers. Not been cleaned for approx 6 months by the amount of webs
Old water bottle thrown behind drawers from previous visitor
Toilet smelt strongly of urine
No remote control for television
Furniture tatty
Thick dust to headboard
Arrived back at hotel Just a minute or 2 after 8.30, told no food. Not even a sandwich? Very unwelcoming response and attitude
Breakfast , 1 hr slot on a Sunday? Not long enough….
nothing special. Black pudding, crumbled to
pieces, inedible. Mushrooms chewy and like rubber.
Didn’t get offered more tea or coffee
- Will (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mike (8/5): Very good -
- Alex (9/5): Superb - Great room and lovely staff! Would definitely stay again.
