Guest Reviews
- TRISTAN (8/5): Very enjoyable and good value - Proper country pub , Cosy and comfortable, friendly staff , good breakfast , clean . Some minor maintenance to room would be and improvement but not anything that caused issue
- Furlong (10/5): - Friendly and helpful staff. The room was good. The evening meal was really good and the breakfast was excellent, it was real value for money There was nothing wrong with our stay at all.
- Wendy (9/5): Comfortable and happy - Thought has been given to the detail and everyone was friendly and helpful. Food was excellent and the White Horse has lovely grounds in which to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. N/A
- Steve (8/5): Lovely pub, friendly staff, nice garden room and in a picturesque location. - Lovely pub in a great location with a great beer garden. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and comfortable. The large English breakfast was cooked perfectly. A very enjoyable stay. The mattresses were a little lumpy.
- eamonn (10/5): -
- Roger (6/5): Welcoming and - Nice layout in the garden. Bar lively and welcoming Room was a bit tight and the single beds moved too freely! Previous stay the room was much better. Need to have outside light working for No2 as its a little dark
- Geoff (9/5): -
- Paul (8/5): I have stayed at the White Horse over a period of 18 years when working in the area. Great food too. - Freshly cooked and really tasty.
- Dumitru Trosinov (10/5): -
- Sally (4/5): Staff friendly and keep to be helpful. Basic and lacking care. - It’s location for us. Biscuits and water with drinks in the room. Water was warm It was very cold when we got there, the heating didn’t work. The radiator they put in the room was dirty. No croissants at breakfast, one choice of cereal.
- Dan (10/5): -

- David (9/5): Nice pub and decent rooms - Friendly staff and great breakfast
- Knights (8/5): -
- Mr & Mrs G (8/5): Comfortable, quiet and just what we required! - We appreciated friendly staff, good accommodation and a 'home-cooked' breakfast, all nicely presented. Two things we'd like to mention: filling the electric kettle from the basin in the ensuite was very awkward as the kettle was too big. Perhaps a smaller kettle is the answer here.
Secondly, the castors on the beds seemed to move very easily which made sitting on or being next to the beds slightly dangerous. For a disabled person with walking/balance problems this seemed rather hazardous. Could this be a health and safety issue? Otherwise all was fine.

- Michael (10/5): -
- Paula (5/5): Great value for money, location. Food excellent - Location - great for our requirements Beds were really hard and the fire exit sign kept me awake
- Susan (8/5): Very good stay! - We stayed at the Hotel as needed to be visiting my Father in hospital. Hotels in the area are extremely expensive, so given that, this one was very good. Ended up needing to stay 2 nights. Was clean, staff very polite, accommodating & friendly. Excellent breakfast also included. ? Not much. TV very small for size of rooms.

- Steven (10/5): - Everything Nothing

- Yvonne (9/5): - Great pub , nice clean, quiet room , breakfast very good , very helpful staff , be aware the pub is not open for drinks Sunday night bed a bit small and not very comfortable
- Guest (4/5): Complete fail. The only thing that is important on a work trip is comfortable bed. - The room was away from the pub, peaceful and very nicely decorated. First impressions were very positive. The bathroom was really hotel-like. My room had 2 single beds. When I pulled back the duvet I uncovered the most basic mattress I have encountered in adult life. It was literally the cheapest of cheap with no padding whatsoever and hard metal springs. There was no way I could have laid on it.
In desperation I had to remove the duvet from the other bed and lay on it.
Unfathomably and inexcusable!

- David (10/5): - Good evening meal choice and excellent breakfast, along with a large, clean quiet garden room.
What's not to like!
- Grant (9/5): - Staff quality was only matched by quality of breakfast!
- Karen (7/5): - Friendly staff, good meals Broken door light outside my room off the pitch black garden area. Bed not comfortable due to springs I could feel.
- steven (4/5): - Breakfast Room. Mattress. Pillows. Bathroom

- Kathelijn (8/5): Goede locatie, gezellige pub en restaurant en grote kamers, wel harde bedden - Erg vriendelijk personeel Harde bedden
- Lyndsey (6/5): -
- Mark (10/5): - Working over the bank holiday so very tired when I turned up. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Room was clean and bed was comfy. Included breakfast was the icing on the cake. Would stay again.
- MArgaret (10/5): - Staff were friendly , polite, and efficient.
- Gary (6/5): It was lovely apart from the Bed & Pillows really - Staff were great, Look a nice room when we checked in, was a nice old traditional Pub and breakfast was fantastic, service was spot on. Bed wasn't very good and the pillows are dead and need to be changed, maybe one out of the four could stay, just didn't give any support and we both had a very bad nights sleep.
what made it worse was really weird noises from the water system , would whine as if an Alien was squeezing through a small hole and then stop for a while and then return again, it didn't seem related to us running a tap or using the loo in our room. Also the sun from the bathroom window burned out my retinas first thing in the morning, so would benefit from a blind in the bathroom in our opinion.
- Sarah (8/5): Great staff - The staff were so friendly, welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and they made our stay! They went above and beyond. Nothing!
- Janice (9/5): -
- Yvonne (10/5): It was perfect, the room was cozy, very clean and comfortable. The staff were so helpful and nothing was too much troubl - Warm and friendly atmosphere
Close to Bury st Edmunds .
Staff lovely and welcoming Nothing
- Peter F (6/5): - Interesting special feature: The property has a well which can be seen through a grating in one of its corridors.
- Linda (9/5): Superb -
- Helen (9/5): Superb - Lovely rooms and good pub. All good
- Rochelle (10/5): Exceptional - Staff were lovely, great place to stay, new bathroom with a bath 🥰
- Dave (8/5): Very good - The Rooms were clean and comfortable, we felt relaxed in the surroundings. If we were down this way again, would definitely book here again. The flies in the restaurant were irritating and there was a dead fly on my plate under my fish.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Friendly country pub stay - Delightful pub. Friendly staff. Could do with new mattresses!! But good enough for one night.
- Timothy (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff and great customer service. Lovely pub with great food. The room was also nice with great courtyard. Fan didn't work. 😢
- Kaz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mansoureh (7/5): Good for our purpose, would stay there again. - Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The outside setting was ideal for relaxing after a long journey and room was clean with adequate facilities. Breakfast could have been better. Cold breakfast was extremely basic and Poached eggs were a complete disaster. However the staff were cheerful and accommodating.
- Catherine (9/5): Superb - The garden.
- Christopher (10/5): Brewery Gin - Excellent food bar staff and serving staff excellent, great location as on a boating holiday, short walk from mooring. None
- Mark (10/5): Perfect for our requirements - Very helpful with all my requests, perfect.
- Joanne (7/5): Good -
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (9/5): Does what it says on the can - definitely recommended for price and value - Friendly staff who went out of their way to be helpful. The accommodation and general facilities were good and represented excellent value for money given the price paid. Good powerful hot showers and a comfortable bed and good quality "pub food". Some of the exterior could have been bettered with a coat of paint but this didn't impact the stay and the rooms themselves were in good order.
- Wallett (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent food and a lovely pub also great accommodation
- Robert (7/5): Good - Good breakfast and evening meal
- Lynda (10/5): Comfortable, friendly and delightful - Friendly pub with great staff, very good reasonably priced restaurant. Room was comfortable and clean. Everything about the White Horse was to like.
- Butters (10/5): Exce - Big hearty breakfast None
- Georgina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rupert (6/5): Pleasant -
- Stephen (8/5): Good value, friendly overnight with good food. - Ideal location, perfect for an overnight work stay. Decent food and a nice pint. Room was spotless clean. Phone reception was a little hit or miss.
- Phil (8/5): Very good - Good location, very friendly staff and good food 👍
- Simon (8/5): Very good, would return - Clean, quiet and very good food Green emergency light in the room
- O'malley (8/5): Attended family funeral in area Just stayed at White Horse one night. Would stay again, or eat there - Amazing breakfast. And really good coffee in percolator. Liked it all.
Friendly helpful staff, like a family. Well run establishment.
Bedding luxurious. Room nice and warm. (March was chilly overnight.) Hot chocolate, expensive shampoo etc in rooms.
- Alan (8/5): A good and attractive location near Bury St. Edmunds 😊😊 - A delightful Pub in a pretty Village location, my courtyard room
was warm and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were both very good. Dining room was a bit chilly at breakfast.
- Nigel (8/5): Good location, friendly staff and comfortable stay. - Good breakfast and location Nothing that affected stay
- Lynda (7/5): Good - Good breakfast, friendly staff, restaurant food good Room is a bit tired
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (3/5): Nice room but broken heating made it impossible to sleep properly. - Breakfast was excellent - I am vegan. The heating controls were not working and the room was insufferably hot. I asked at the bar and they said it needed to be fixed, but it would go off at 20.30. It did go off but it came back on at 22.00 full blast and stayed on till midnight, by which time the room was impossibly warm even with the windows fully open - in January! Since I did not know the heating was going off at midnight at one stage I tried sleeping on the bathroom floor as it was cooler there. I finally got off to sleep in the bed around 12.30 but then was waken up at 6am - by the heating coming on! The gas boiler was very noisy and the vent was directly opposite my open window. In addition there was a ridiculously bright night light permanently on in the room which did n to help.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fiona (9/5): Lovely location and great food - Lovely location. The room was a nice size and a plus was having a fridge and sofa in the room.
The food was excellent. The decor in the room and bathroom was a bit dated.
An external light is required from the car park to the rooms as it rather dark next to the hedge.
- Anthony (9/5): A lovely pub with nice a room - A nice pub with good accommodation. A lovely look to the interior with an open log fire. Food and drink was of a good quality at a reasonable price. No outside light to the room . Had to use my phone torch to see where the lock was .
- David (7/5): Good - No frills room, clean and good breakfast cooked by very pleasant and welcoming chef. Good value for money.
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (7/5): Not sure if I would book a stay again - Location was great for work , lovely breakfast Breakfast was great but 8.30am at weekends when you are working is to late.
- Debbie (1/5): Very poor isn’t worth the money I pay for it - The staff beening friends We had no heating the bath fill up when u turn the shower on the bed was hard no extra blankets to put on the bed cos of the cold room
- Peter (9/5): Another Great Visi5 - The WH is great, it never fails to serve up a great breakfast, the rooms are a good size and beds are comfortable Nothing to dislike
- Janet (6/5): Ok but room and could be better - Clean room, good breakfast Windows in room could not open, so no fresh air which I didn't like, they were very high up so no view either. Also a green security light was inside the room, very bright all night so disturbed sleep. No way of turning it off.
- Anne (5/5): Passable - Room needed updating …
- John (7/5): Good -
- Judith (10/5): Good venue - Lovely village pub, great food, friendly staff. The rooms were simple but clean and perfectly adequate.
- Darrin (9/5): Friendly staff food and beer sound - Nice room great shower and clean All ok
- Luca (4/5): Disappointing - The room was cold, dirty and with old furniture. Burn light bulb, cold room. Need a total renovation, the standard is not in line with the price
- Elly (4/5): Rough and ready - The staff were the only redeeming feature In need of refurb. Single glazed, cold and on the main road. No heating on, just a plug in fan heater which looked (and smelt!) like it wouldn’t pass a safety check. Had to ask for towels as none in the room. Could have been cleaner and room could do with maintenance, tv not working, blind not fitting, amongst other things. Pub dinner was ok but £15.75 for an ok veggie lasagna with a 1970s salad was a bit much. Breakfast was in a freezing cold room. Boxed cereals and 2 bowls of tinned fruit (I couldn’t even make out what!) were all that was on the spread. Received nuked, overdone (asked for under) scrambled egg on little shopper toast. Won’t be rushing back
- Vikki (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (8/5): Very good - Excellent home cooking
- Darren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Duncton (8/5): Apart from comments above, stay was very good - good food and drink, excellent full English breakfas - Ground floor room was ideal as my wife has mobility problems so has difficulty with stairs. 2 minor issues:
1. The room had obviously been recently painted so there was quite strong smell of paint. The windows were high up without pole to open them so couldn't let in fresh air.
2. The electric towel rail wasn't working
- Bettina (10/5): Cosy friendly pub with rooms. - Situated in a quiet, attractive village close to Bury St Edmunds, the pub has quiet, comfortable rooms in a converted barn. We loved the garden in front of our room where we enjoyed the sunshine. Our dinner in the pub was good and excellent value. It is old school home cooked food. Breakfast was equally good. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. I don't like a wet room but the shower was pretty good and it certainly is accessible for people who need assistance. Otherwise everything was great and we were delighted with the well run pub.
