• Tracy (10/5): A perfect hotel in a great location with a very nice owner - It was later in the evening that I had made my reservation, and I was only an hour away from the Chief Motel. When I got there my key was ready and my room was perfect. The room was clean and had many amenities. The bed was very comfortable.

We chose this motel because it was centrally located to all our events. I would definitely book at the Chief Motel again. The outside of the motel could have been a little more updated.

Clean and the decor was cute!! - The motel itself was fine, there was no one there when we checked in but they left our keys with our name out for us which was nice. Rooms were clean and decor was cute for the area!! When I booked with Booking.com we were to have TWO rooms for the price not just ONE. We will never use Booking.com again!!! Thankfully I had called the motel when I saw our confirmation from Booking.com showing only ONE room and was able to get another room for the price of what TWO rooms were shown on Booking.com. My recommendation would be to book your room through the motel/hotel itself NOT a third party! Actually was recommended this by our motel the previous night.

Visits are close for Custer - We loved the owners and their helpfulness for knowing the area and keeping the motel tidy and the huge pool in great shape for use. We appreciated everything and had absolutely no complaints.

The rooms have old fashioned keys and after telling the rest of the people in our group that the doors lock automatically after closing, I locked my key in my room 🙁 The motel is literally right next door to the Mount Rushmore Brewery which is a popular place to eat and drink. The owner gave me an Indian head penny when I had to go ask for an additional room key. He was quite a character and we enjoyed talking to him throughout our stay.

• April (10/5): - We were there for just one night. The owner checked us in and was very helpful. And easy walked to great food places. Our only issue was the noise from washers right next door to our room.

• McClendon (10/5): - This is an older motel but very well cared for. It was just right for our visit. Walking distance from Family Dollar and a cute laundromat with good prices. There was an excellent taproom right next door that also has an attached restaurant. Cute little mainstreet type stores to stroll though. My teenagers loved the indoor pool. Staff anticipated needs and were very friendly but not intrusive. A great stay all around.

I liked the assigned parking in front of my room door. Hotel is older and rooms are a little on the small side. I didn't t see vending machines.
• Kerwin (5/5): Smokers dream place. - The staff were friendly. The room was a good size. If your a person who smokes this is a perfect place because you can smoke just right outside your room door. The hotel was run down.The room had a mold smell and was damp. We tried our best to keep the door open to get rid of the smell. But.. we had to close the door because people were allowed to smoke just outside their door that is only feet away from our door. Then at night people did smoke right infront of out air conditioner that suck into our room. I got them to move over away. But didn't help because many people would smoking that carried down the long porch that had many room doors.

• Nicholas (8/5): - Second time staying here, and won't be my last. Rooms are a good size. Decor is a bit dated, in a charming way. Loved how many places we could hang garments/towels. AC and fan work very well, but I had to seal a bit of a gap where I could see around it, where it was mounted. There was foam around it, but it wasnt seated properly. Not really a big deal. Pool is large. Not a far walk away from the main part of Custer, but far enough to be a bit quieter.
• Kristina (6/5): If you are looking for a more authentic stay that isn’t part of a chain, this fits the bill. - This is an independent hotel that still has a local feel. The kids enjoyed the pool and we did like having chairs out front to sit and watch the traffic. Great location for traveling around that area to Keystone, etc. The bathroom and rooms could use some updating.
