- Kimberly (10/5): Historic and comtempory, a lovely respite - Historic and contemporary, Whitehall is a very pleasant place to stay the night. Comfortable beds and pillows complemented by log decor (seriously!). And, in our case, an en suite bathroom. Coffee and water are available all day long and their breakfast was simple yet nourishing. We will definitely return if we are in the area again.

- Michele (9/5): Beautiful Home- Lovely Accommodation. - This is a beautiful old home. One staff member told me it had been built in 1830 for a ships captain. Large rooms, building is very well maintained. Lots of common spaces where one can relax. Coffee and breakfast are available. We did not have breakfast. Our room was clean, spacious, and well appointed. It was part of the original house and had lots of character. The woman who checked us in seemed a bit bothered. Maybe something was wrong with her day, but she wasn’t very welcoming. There was a younger woman who was much friendlier. Coffee is not available in the room, and it is also not available until 8:00 am. This must be to accommodate their schedule because by 8:00 many people were ready to be on the road, and standing round waiting for the coffee. When staying in such historic houses, I usually find a small printed piece about the history of the place. It was obviously expanded (quite tastefully) over the centuries. I would love to know more about it.

There is not a level floor or square door in the place. Parking lot is gravel and not well lit at night.’ One window shade in the room would not go down. Iron cord kept running back into iron so you had to iron your shirt while holding the cord. Tv is flat on the wall and in a corner. Would be much better to have it on a mount that would allow you to rotate it. Bathroom was nice. Common areas were inviting. Bed was good. Room size adequate. Hallways very narrow. So a lot of little things. Again if this was a $250 per night ok but not at $400

- DLF1975 (6/5): More Quirky than Quaint - i wanted to really like this place. It is old and charming looking, not right in the downtown area but walkable. But our room was very odd. We had a "King Suite" and when we got there found a long narrow hallway that winds around to our room which was also long and narrow. Bed in one side, bath in the middle and a sitting room on the other side. However the couch in the sitting room was a foldout and the bed was unfolded and made up. It had a blow up mattress on it so we could not close it to sit on the couch in the sitting room. Not the end of the world but odd. The bathroom was also small and narrow. It wasn't really big enough to change your mind in, let alone change your clothes! The A/C were window units that were loud and blew right on the bed. Overall not a bad experience but a bit too quirky to want to stay again.

- Newtown_PaShopper (8/5): Lovely stay. - There was a limited amount of accommodations when we decided to take our road trip . This was our first time in Camden Maine and we enjoyed our stay. The inn is old but it is well maintained The walls are kind of thin and we did hear our upstairs neighbors walking back and forth on the creaky hardwood floors. Some food and coffee are available in the morning . It’s not substantial and the choice is limited. The rooms are interesting, we were assigned a room with the tiniest shower I’ve ever seen. We are not big people and we decided to select another room. We now had a decent bathroom . The front porch is complete with rockers .They have a fire pit too. All and all the location is good and the water front is a 10 minute walk from the inn. It’s a nice place I recommend it.

It is situated on a highly frequented road. The rooms need to be completely renovated, even they look cosy! The frame of the mosquito net was too small to keep insects out! Tiny bathroom!!

- welker (10/5): - We had a great time there. The only thing was that it says you can you walk into town from the Inn. Well I turned 79 there on Sept. 4th and my husband is 82 . There was no way we could have walked into town. So we were disappointed about that. We were hoping not to have to drive . That being said we think they should change that on their website. We did love our room and loved the decor of the place. I had my own design business for over 40 years so it was fun to see something different.

Pleasant staff and courteous. So helpful. Plenty of time for breakfast. Never felt rushed. Room was a bit tight. Tough for hubs to do his back stretches.
- Constance (2/5): Was not treated like a wanted guest as a result of booking through booking.com - Basically a continental breakfast. Nothing special, nothing hot. We had booked through booking.com and had a room that was a bed on the floor with a bunk above. When I checked at the front desk to see if we could get another room/upgrade (we were willing to pay), the woman said they did have two king rooms availabile but that because it was through booking.com, she didn’t know what I paid or what the difference would be. She was very dismissive and unpleasant and unwilling to make a change. The room was abysmal. The air conditioning unit blew in our face as it was a foot from the bed. Getting in and out of the bed was difficult as the bunk ladder was in the way. And there were three things that kept turning on and off throughout the night: the air conditioner, the refrigerator, and the dehumidifier. What could have been a lovely stay at a historic property was a nightmare.

- Departure714579 (4/5): Excellent cinnamon scones but very poor beds - When you book an Inn, you know there will be quirky aspects to the stay, some you like and some perhaps less so. But what you do expect is that bed sizes used in advertising conform to standard definitions, not Inn-specific variations. We booked a Queen suite, expecting to find a queen bed (60”x80”), not a double or full bed (54”x75”). The bed in our “Queen Suite” was only 75” long. This difference was material to us. If it’s material to you, please be aware. Also, the sofa bed in the suite has only the thinnest of “mattresses”, so it is really only passable for a very small child (under 6 or 7). It did not provided much sleep for our 12 year old. While the windows appeared to have a second layer of glass added, you could clearly hear every noise from the street. This is perhaps part of “inn charm”, but at over $450/night, you should at least know this before booking.

- Julie (5/5): Mixed bag! Wanted to love it but just got stuck with a dud of a room. - Beautiful property, with lovely landscaping and interior design. Love the property’s connection to Edna St. Vincent Millay, the rocking chairs on the front porch, the comfy bed/pillows, the great coffee, friendly staff and the proximity to town. Our room was like a broom closet. It was so small that it lacked an actual closet, which meant that we had to look at an ironing board leaning against the wall and an industrial pipe sticking out of the wall with overladen hangers on it at all times. There was only one chair for two of us which was squished in between the clothing pipe, a small side table, the garbage can, the bureau, and a dehumidifier. Total traffic jam. Furthermore, the bathroom was split in half with the toilet/sink (which was backed up) on one side and the shower on the other. The air conditioner was built into the wall directly next to the bed which meant that we had to sleep beneath its icy blast all night — or sweat. When we ventured out to sit by the outdoor gas fire pit, it failed to light (even with help from the staff, who ended up with the dislocated knob in her hand). Lastly, both the rugs in the hallways and the beautiful wood floors everywhere needed a good cleaning!
- IKE48 (10/5): A real treat - A super clean place. Excellent air conditioning in the rooms have a large refrigerator in them. The continental breakfast was excellent. However, I would suggest they rotate their offerings on a weekly cycle versus in every three day cycle. For those staying longer than a couple days, it gets repetitive.Great outdoor area. The staff was super hospitable. An easy walk to downtown Camden.

- Bamagirl74_9 (8/5): Relaxing family getaway! - We just left Whitehall today. Our experience was fantastic. Whitehall was within walking distance to downtown. The decor was comfy and the inn was very clean. I enjoyed sitting on the porch each day with my coffee and wine. The only reason I gave 4/5 was because the air conditioner in our room wasn’t the best. Even though the air wasn’t great, I would stay there again in a heartbeat and can’t wait to return. Whitehall was relaxing and comfy.

A fireplace outside but no other amenities. I was on third floor. Heavy bags and no elevator. Not a place to stay if you’re over 65 or have a back problem. I booked late and had few options. Overpriced
- T3996CGlaurao (8/5): Great, easy spot in Camden! - The Inn is lovely and clean. It's on a main road so there is some noise from traffic but it's not too disruptive that you cannot sleep. The breakfast every morning was really nice. There is no staff after 8PM so if you need something, they give you a number to call. We didn't need anything so it was fine for us. I would definitely stay there again. It's also close to town and walkable which is great!
- CarmelTravel (6/5): Great location but customer service lacks quality and professionalism . - This was our 2nd trip to Whitehall and this trip there were issues with customer service. The Good and why we came back to stay at the Inn: -Great location , very clean, beautiful gathering areas , fire pits , staff works hard to clean rooms and hotel and lastly a relaxed setting. Negative - staff was inconsistent in friendliness and professionalism . We had an issue with our room- it was on the 3rd floor and window unit was just turned on upon our arrival. It was extremely hot and I have asthma so I knew I could not be in this room. Also the Inn does not explain that to get to this room, that you must take a very dark, winding narrow staircase to the room . This would be challenging for a person with mobility issues or low vision - which I have. The room advertises a glimpse / view of the harbor- this was not visible due to trees and vegetation . We requested to change rooms and they accommodated our request . It was a less expensive room but it had great stairs and a split unit air conditioner that made the room very comfortable. Upon leaving we asked to be credited the difference on the tower room versus the king room. The manager did not respond . We asked again for information on what the difference was between the cost of the rooms. No response. I left a message at the front desk for Paula to call me. She did not. I called and left a message for her to call, she did not. After we returned home ,I called her and requested to know what the difference in cost of the 2 rooms were but she she did not know nor could she find that out. She then told me it was our choice to move rooms so she would not give us a credit. It was not our choice to be in a room that was not adequately ventilated . Nor was it our choice to maneuver a winding staircase not meant for someone with low vision . Please update your info and appropriately describe this room. Lastly I requested to speak with the general manager who has never called me. Very disappointing customer service .

Clean, open feeling, many places to sit outside. We are old and probably very much in the minority about this, but the modern decor felt a bit out of place and dated (as in current). We expected more of a real breakfast rather than a continental buffet.

- Edith (10/5): - We stayed at the Whitehall for a quick overnight getaway. It's a beautiful old inn that has fun, modern design. Our room was spacious. They made the most of a small bathroom. Staff was excellent -- friendly, welcoming, and so helpful with info about the area and the Inn. We'd stay there again on our next trip to Camden.

- Jonny (4/5): Nice hotel - but did they want to defraud us there? - Charming and beautifully renovated hotel, good and healthy breakfast with reusable dishes (not a matter of course in the USA), convenient location close to town center and harbor. The hotel charged half of the room rate to my credit card immediately after booking several months ago. This seems to be standard practice at this hotel. However, the lady (possibly the owner) at check-in was not aware of this charge and put us in an uncomfortable situation: We now had to prove that this transaction actually took place more than six months ago. If this disputed payment had not already been made, we would have left the hotel immediately. Fortunately, I can access my bank account transactions via a smartphone app. The lady told us that Booking.com was to blame and that she would investigate further. A very brief “sorry” ended this situation. Mistakes can happen, but it bothered us that we were treated like second-class guests and that the atmosphere was close to tipping over. We didn't receive any feedback on how the investigations turned out. I would have expected a full and proactive apology for this severe mistake and the resulting unpleasant situation. What completely shocked us, however, was the recent feedback on Booking.com from Michael from the UK given on June 5 (see attached screenshot). We read this feedback after our check-in. Apparently, a similar situation happened to this traveler, but he couldn't prove the earlier charge and finally had to pay one and a half times the price. This could give rise to the suspicion that this rip-off is being practiced somehow systematically. "A rogue who thinks evil of it." We were very disappointed and will never book at this hotel again. Furthermore, we would like to warn other guests to be very careful when booking and paying at this hotel.

It is close enough to walk to all stores and restaurants but you feel like you are in the country. Bed comfortable and the nicest sheets I’ve ever slept in. Sorry we weren’t staying longer

- Michael (5/5): Passable - A very traditional colonial timber framed building. Set back from a fairly busy road but quite close to Camden. The Inn is fairly tired and is in need of full refurbishment and updating. Needs a considerable amount of work to bring it up to modern standards. The breakfast was adequate but we were not offered a choice of a cooked breakfast as the dishes were already laid out and it was serve yourself. My biggest disappointment was that I was overcharged for my stay. 50% of the total fee was taken on reserving the room with Booking.com and the whole amount was charged when I checked in. The Inn has claimed it has not received the initial deposit, but Booking.com state that the deposit was facilitated by the Inn and received directly by them. The Inn has refused to engage with me as a customer nor have they refunded my money. On that basis I would warn other potential customers to be very careful when booking with the Inn.

Good location and convenient to Camden restaurants, shops and waterfront. Staff & atmosphere could be more inviting and welcoming. It felt like you were walking into a library no matter what time of day. Breakfast was mediocre with a poor selection and no afternoon cookies (as mentioned in previous reviews). A noisy location on main road. No smart TV, hairdryer or coffee in rooms. Poor security with main doors always unlocked and no 24 hour staff presence. Overall rating is a 4!

Comfortable rooms (however, the sink and bathrooms are on the small side). I can't think of a better place to stay if you're in Camden. The cookies at the front desk as well as the free coffee were great!
