Guest Reviews
- Phil (10/5): - Staff very friendly every thing was as expected if not more would recommend it for a quite break away from everything
- Paul (10/5): - They were so helpful,!sorted out lunch for us to take on walking trips and so helpful in everything
- Nathalie (8/5): Friendly service, good value - Lovely overnight stay, breakfast was very good. Very friendly helpful staff. Excellent value for money.
- Neil (10/5): - Excellent food at breakfast. The owner Keith and his wife were very friendly and always ready to help. The bar staff nothing seemed to much trouble for them very polite will certainly be returning in the future.
- Natalie (10/5): - Really lovely owners and bar staff, younger girl waitering in the evening was a bit miserable which stood out a bit as all the other staff were so lovely. The owners really look after you and are so accommodating, genuinely kind, nice people as we’re the bar staff. The room was clean and modern and perfect for our family stay of four, with young children aged 7 & 9. I can’t believe this is only a three star hotel, as it went way above this. The breakfast was really good as well. This is a lovely bar/hotel in the heart of the Village, it’s got a lovely warm, homely, safe atmosphere, with lovely people who obviously live locally going there as well as holiday makers from all over the place. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be staying again. Great location to see local areas of interest and price wise was a bargain in comparison to other place, we really landed on our feet here. Thank you for a lovely stay.
- Karon (10/5): - .
- Kathleen (10/5): - Great pub in a lovely little village.
- Julie (10/5): Loved our room! - We had a lovely room with a beautiful oriental bed and a balcony. The bed was more comfortable than ours at home! Staff were friendly and eager to see to our needs. Breakfast was very nice 😊
- T (10/5): Comfortable base for hiking - The owners were really hospitable, breakfast was delicious. Prices in the bar were reasonable.
Room was clean and comfortable with fabulous shower over the bath.
Only small niggle was a slight dog odour when we arrived.
On-street parking outside is unlimited after 6pm until 8am. Pay and display car parks nearby.
Regular bus service into Minehead. Plenty of bridleway paths within easy reach of the hotel.
Great base for first section of the South West Coast Path.
- David (8/5): - -
- Richard (10/5): Nice spot to stay if walking the coast path - Very peaceful and enjoyable stay.for one night stopover whilst walking the SW Coast Path. Quick, easy, friendly check-in. Nice, quiet, refurbished room with excellent shower and comfy bed. Plug in bathroom sink didn't work properly. Excellent, freshly cooked breakfast and nice evening dinner at a reasonable price.
- Pawel (10/5): - Nice, welcoming staff, had really good sleep, delicious breakfast, would recommend to anyone.
- Jessica (10/5): - We have stayed at the Castle Inn quite a few times now and have always found it to be excellent, The staff are always very friendly and welcoming and go the extra mile to make sure you have a good stay. It is right in the heart of the village of Porlock and an excellent base to explore Exmoor! We will definitely be back!
- ANDREW (6/5): - Room in a poor condition Bed not made and coffee tray not cleaned Not told they did not service room every day Breakfast only served from 9am. Which is too late if you are walking Bedroom needs a total revamp Uncertain whether we would stay again
- Shaun (10/5): A gem in a beautiful place - Wonderful experience, a very warm welcome. The staff are very friendly, the room and en-suite was a very good size. The breakfast was fantastic, we ate both nights here and the food was excellent and very well priced. The price of drinks was the very reasonable. Will definitely return.
- Nicola (8/5): - Helpful, friendly staff. Tasty breakfast. Good value accommodation. Although no onsite parking, there was free parking in nearby car park less than 5 minutes walk away.
- Steven (10/5): - What made this stay was the staff. Everyone was so helpful and easy going. I felt at home.
- Terry (6/5): Castle Inn, Porlock - Mixed views room more than adequate but no view. Breakfast OK but no space to relax
other than in the Pub
Main issue is total.lack of parking so hhave to.be lucky to get a space in Church Road
- Jane (10/5): Excellent stay - Lovely people and great hotel. Only downside was there were no change of towels or bed made. We were there 3 nights so would have been nice. Breakfast excellent. Loved it cos it was dog friendly too. Definitely recommend
- Mark (8/5): Nice friendly hotel.Staff couldn't do enough - Bed very small for two large tall people
- Richard (6/5): - The Castle is in a great location in the centre of Porlock. On arrival we were allocated a room but had to change to another as it wasn't in any fit state to stay in. Our second room was okay, a few high level cobwebs but generally clean. Breakfast again was okay. No orange juice, only one mushroom no matter how small, not many baked beans and just the one slice of toast. They don't do poached eggs either, only fried or scrambled. The tea and coffee was only warm as well. The bar is a good place to have a drink in the evenings though.
- Tony (10/5): - It was a very nice place to go and visit in the North Coast of Somerset. Nice room and breakfast. Mattress was hard,
- Mark (4/5): - Cob webs in the bedroom, bed was very hard, breakfast average to poor, dogs barking in nearby room
- Lee (10/5): - Lovely location.
Warm and friendly 👍👍👍
- Ian (10/5): - Such friendly people. We stayed in an annexe to the rear of The Castle which had been recently done or refurbished. A good size room with an excellent on suite complete with a power shower. Breakfast was good and we were well looked after by Patsy each morning who was great.
We also ate there a couple of evenings, food was well priced, quality produce and tasty but its not fine dining, its hearty pub grub.
The location in Porlock is central, parking is not at the hotel but a couple of minutes walk away, however, there are some 20 min spaces opposite which are great for dropping off lugage etc.
All in all, a very comfortable stay and great value for money.
- marie (8/5): - the tv channels were low could not get many and the breakfast option was poor but lovely cooked breakfast but small portion and 1 mushroom was poor would of liked a continental choice and fruit and yogurt muesli room and facilities were good a lovely place parking was poor
- Marek (10/5): - Cleaning need more details: cobwebs outside of windows, lots of dust on the lamps.
Overall is ok.
Nice size of room, quite and in excellent location.
Definitely recommend place.
- Julie (10/5): Three night break - Our third time at the Castle and loved it just as much. Lovely hosts, fabulous breakfast and a big spacious room. Only wished we could have stayed longer than the 3 nights booked!
- Alex (10/5): - Staff were friendly and helpful, the inn had a nice atmosphere. Breakfast was lovely and beautifully cooked :)
- Jan (8/5): - the hotel was good we have stayed therebefore so no problem re booking staff excellent very good breakfast. unfortunately we were disturbed saturday night by a dog barking constantly not the hotels fault the dog was a few houses away
- Maddie (10/5): - Lovely comfortable stay in the heart of Porlock.
- pamela (4/5): - No hot water in my room. When I pointed this out they suggested I turn it on , flush the toilet and hot water would flow. It did but is this satisfactory ; intnink we expect hot water in hotel rooms.
Tv had to be unplugged to turn it off.
I maybe thought I would be offered a reduction in charge but no. A shame as the village is lovely and many features of the pub are nice.
- Charles (10/5): - Such a wonderful place to stay. Fantastic staff, great food and bar. Loved the local Beers !
- Karen (10/5): - Perfect place to stay. Very dog friendly too.
- Julian (10/5): - Clean, friendly staff good value food
- J.C (8/5): - Excellent staff comfortable rooms and good location!
- Ian (8/5): - Good base for coastal path walking and Exmoor. Parking on street but better parking charged. Friendly hosts, narrow hallways for room access, comfortable bed with good WiFi but tepid shower.
- daniel (8/5): Great stay - Wonderful staff. Breakfast amazing. Only issue room 11 needs a bit of an update. Had a great stay though.
- Karen (10/5): - Had an excellent stay here. Lovely breakfast choices too.
- Poppy (10/5): - We had a lovely room and the castle is based in the centre of Porlock
- Carolyn (10/5): - Great hotel. Staff were lovely
- Danilo (10/5): - Stuff is friendly and kind everything was clean and convenient
- John (10/5): - Nice hotel with very reasonable food and drink prices. Staff are really great and I would certainly use this hotel again. Room was nice with good facilities.
Improvements.. Better guest information would be good, such as detaills in the room about breakfast times, wifi etc.
But overall highly recommended.
- Viv (10/5): Recommend to Stay Here - All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The evening meals were very good and fairly priced.
The room was comfortable and provided all we needed.
- Julie (10/5): Fab 3 night stay - Would thoroughly recommend. Very clean and welcoming. Breakfast was lovely with a good choice of options available. Could not fault.
- Dominic (6/5): Highs and lows of the castle - Positives- great food, friendly service, very comfortable bed.
Negatives, cobwebs in room, shower screen leaked all over floor, water pressure meant after 40 seconds shower just trickled. Carpets ripped and tatty in areas.
Despite advertised no parking available anywhere near the hotel.
- P (10/5): Wonderful stay - Thank you so much to the Castle hotel for a wonderful weekend break. Our room was clean a really comfy. Large room. The breakfast was yummy and plentiful. I would like to thank Patsy and all her lovely staff, who were kind and Attentive. I definitely recommend this beautiful hotel
- Jenny (10/5): - We felt like family while we stayed here. Beautiful town. The breakfast was amazing and served fresh every day.
- Andrew (10/5): - Room was spotless on arrival, large and very comfortable. Staff were extremely helpful and personable, with nothing being too much trouble. We stayed 3 nights and room wasn’t serviced daily so extra toilet rolls, tea & coffee would have been good, but that would probably have been provided if we had asked.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay at The Castle - We had a really comfortable room with a great shower and a bath. It was lovely and warm and everyone was really friendly. I would definitely recommend The Castle for anyone visiting Porlock
- david (10/5): Friendly and welcoming no issues - Lovely welcome at the Castle Inn
- Jacqui (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff. Everything we needed in our room. Lovely location.
- Philip (8/5): - Ideal for my Stay at porlock,
- Julie (10/5): Really enjoyed our 2 night stay - Really enjoyed our 2 night stay here. Room was large, clean and very well equipped. Bonus was pub downstairs which served great food and drink at very reasonable prices. Breakfast (included in rate) was excellent. Staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. Thank you.
- Samantha (8/5): Just right for our short break. - Lovely Pub / B&B. Perfect for a short stay. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the full English breakfast was fabulous. The pub was full and lively both nights but with a room a few floors up it didn't bother us and was actually nice to see a pub busy with drinkers and guests . Room was clean and comfy. Would definitely stay again when in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay at The Castle Inn - Everyone at The Castle Inn was really friendly and helpful. It was clean and comfortable with a good shower.
- Jade (10/5): - The staff couldn’t do enough for you, they were so friendly and welcoming. The room was great, room 14! Even though the parking was up the road it took less than 3 minutes to get to the car. Great outdoor area and very clean place!
- Terence (10/5): Castle Inn, Porlock - A lovely 4 night stay at the Castle. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food is good. Parking very limited, though we parked elsewhere in the village. Wouldn't hesitate to go there again.
- Steven (8/5): - Great location rooms clean and tidy , staff were very good with no problems.
Will go back in the spring.
- Angela (10/5): Wonderful - The Castle is a wonderful place to stay, the staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you. It's a very clean hotel/bar and the meals are very tasty and filling. We will defiantly be returning
- Paul (10/5): - Unique: a really joined-up team of commited and hard-working staff who want to do their best
Dislikes: once we'd sorted the roof light in room 10 none!
Consistently well-presented, well-cooked quality food apparently sourced locally. A huge well-stocked bar. Perfectly sited for exploring the coastal area on foot.
No loose ends and we would be happy to make a return visit.
- Linda (10/5): September Holiday - Our stay was excellent, staff were really welcoming and made us feel at home.Breakfast was excellent and we chose to eat in every evening as it was comfortable, good menu and really tasty food very reasonably priced. We would definitely recommend friends to stay here
- Paul (10/5): Old school pub/hotel - It was a loverly stay and what made it was the staff who were amazing. In the evening it was clearly a hub for the locals as they all came in with their dogs for a pint and a chat. Breakfast, full English, was really nice and although the eveing menu was limited it was really tasty.
Pretty village Porlock but not much to do but as a base for our exploring it was perfect. Good value too.
- Andrew (10/5): - Very nice pub in a lovely location, nice staff, just a little disappointed that the breakfast didn't allow cereal and full cooked breakfast
- Verified traveler (6/5): Accommodation was good, clean and comfortable - Accommodation was clean, quiet and comfortable. However, the breakfast was very disappointing, it was A OR B etc. The cooked breakfast was fine, however the other selections weren’t great
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay at the Castle - The Castle is a great place to stay, right in the centre of Porlock. The room was comfortable with a great view. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. We have been there quite a few times and would recommend it.
- Anthony (10/5): Swcp - Great pub and hotel staff very friendly and helpful
- Martin John (8/5): - Porlock is a great place for anyone who's into walking/hiking, within a short time you can be on the coastal path or on the moors.
- Danielle (10/5): - Our stay was great. Our room was on the second floor and had a good view.
The bed was comfortable and clean.
The breakfast was served with a friendly smile and was delicious to.
There was no parking on-site so we parked at the local village hall which was free and a short distance away. Perfect for what we needed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Friendly hotel - Room was excellent, comfortable and spotless, staff really helpful , only think we didn’t like were the tables in the breakfast room (pub ) were really sticky , otherwise our stay was very good .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very enjoyable stay, friendly helpul staff.
- Steve (8/5): Better SW Path option than Porlock Weir - Really comfortable room and good WiFi. The guy serving breakfast was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. An egg and cheese baguette was a welcome change from usual breakfasts but it would have been nice to have had juice and fruit as an option.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff go out of their way to make sure guests have a relaxed and enjoyable visit.
- Debbie (10/5): Great place - We had a lovely stay, the staff were friendly and helpful, would recommend this place
- Alison (8/5): A warm inviting place to stay - The staff were very attentive and friendly. It was a warm atmosphere and the breakfast was excellent. I will definately stay again.
- Sheryl (8/5): Weekend walking base - We received a very warm welcome & all the staff we met were friendly & helpful. Our room was large & clean with a big comfortable bed. Unfortunately there wasn’t much sound proofing between us & our sometimes noisy neighbours. There was a good choice for breakfast. The location was ideal.
- Colin (10/5): Genial hosts, comfortable room - Patsy, Leanne, Hayley and Janelle were friendly, efficient and very helpful. A neighbour's dog kept barking outside our window. As soon As we informed Patsy, she rang the neighbour and by the time I had walked back to the room, the dog had been taken indoors. Breakfast was very good. The room was really a small suite and clean, comfortable, neat and tidy. We will be back.
- Brigid (10/5): - The staff , fantastic 5star service. Excellent location .
- Martin (10/5): An excellently staffed and reasonably priced hotel - The room and shower was lovely, but the two bedside tables need to be replaced, then it would be perfect. Food and breakfast was excellent. Staff were superb! Will definitely come back again in the future.
- Vince (8/5): - Welcoming host and staff. Right in the middle of the Village.
The downside is that the castle has no parking which I’m guessing in the busy time of the year you would have to pay £5 a day to park in the local car park. Traffic wardens do operate in this village. I like to walk so the breakfast at 9am for me was a little late for a early start on the moors.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Everything was perfect ie staff, service, cleanliness, food etc The one and only complaint is that there was no hot water. We did ask about it and was told to run the tap longer. We said that we had done so and they said it should work. Luckily we was only there for 3 nights and boiled the kettle for hot washed
- Juliet (10/5): Excellent mini break - Spent two days here as a break from caring responsibilities at home.
The staff are what make this place so special. They literally can’t do enough for you, but in a way that’s not over the top. Really lovely people.
- Frank (8/5): - Staff were extremely pleasant and very friendly. Regularly asked if we required anything. The breakfast was excellent with a table reserved. The evening menu was somewhat limited with no fish.
- Rosemary (8/5): Clean, comfortable, friendly with tasty food. - The room was very clean apart from a drawer with chocolate in it! We weren’t informed about no servicing of the room or the need to request fresh towels, teabags etc. No soap in shower dispensers and nowhere to put your own. Bed comfortable and very clean. The staff were very helpful but only two wore a mask which was worrying and on the Saturday night social distancing was non existent in the bar. The actual pub was very clean and food excellent value for money and nicely cooked. The menu not as extensive as some places but that didn’t matter because of the high standard of the food. Overall a very clean, comfortable place to stay which needs just a little more attention to detail set out above. Would stay again.
- Gareth (8/5): - Staff were excellent place could do with a spruce up but clean. Breakfast good basic menus for evening meals. But overall good place
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice place. A little chaotic booking in but breakfast was excellent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A very enjoyable stay for one night. Booked 24hrs before arrival. Room 10 in Loft conversion, small and compact with Velux window and en-suite bathroom. Modern furnishings and clean and comfortable for our short stay. Staff were very friendly and extremely helpful and obliging. Breakfast and bar food excellent. Very reasonably priced food and drink. Overnight Car parking at Village Hall a few minutes walk away included. I recommend the Castle Inn and would be happy to stay again.
- COLIN (6/5): Cracked Castle - Tried hard but Staff working in a difficult environment. Not convinced that Covid19 deep clean was as good as it should have been.
Room had poor security, shower took an age to deliver warm water.
Breakfast was excellent
- Verified traveler (8/5): - CLEAN AND GOOD SERVICE ,LOCATION AND FOOD BUT NO CAR PARKING.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Breakfast was good ,comfortable but needs a little tlc in my opinion , a lick of paint over lockdown wouldn’t of gone a miss like I say tlc ,this is our second stay there
- Graham (10/5): Social Distancing Excellently Implemented - Another lovely stay with great emphasis on social distancing and giving the feeling of taking responsibilities seriously.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location was great as was the room which was really spacious and comfortable. The staff were really welcoming and friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, lovely room and staff very helpful.
- Eamonn (10/5): irstngjt of a road trip - Would recommend this hotel 100%.
Staff could not do enough for you.
- David (8/5): friendly and helpful staff - Very friendly, helpful staff, we did have a couple of issues but they were resolved to our satisfaction and it was a good stay
- Sallis (10/5): - Clean staff very helpful, good breakfast and set up well for Covid
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fab stay - Very friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Really nice feel to the place when you first arrive. Room was clean and comfortable. We had a problem with the shower in our room, but the owner was fantastic and kept us regularly updated. We were given use of another room for the duration of our stay, so that we could shower The hotel offered a range of options for breakfast and it was hot and delicious.
- stephen (8/5): - No hot water in shower and struggled to close the door. Room was lovely though and bed very comfortable. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff
- Peter (8/5): Friendly staff - Staff were very friendly and efficient. Coffee and tea making facilities were a bit hit and miss. Rooms are a bit tired
- Gav (10/5): - Great location, right in the centre of Porlock. Really nice room, very clean, comfy beds. Staff were excellent, very friendly. Really good breakfast also.
