Guest Reviews
- JuliaW755 (10/5): Great stop for a half way point to Marquette - We stopped here just for one night on the way to Marquette. Great room, clean and neat. Just what we needed to break up the trip.
- Robert (10/5): - Friendly & helpful staff.
- James (8/5): Good price - Needs some updates but it was a good price & close to the ferry
- Robin (4/5): Hard beds! - The beds were so hard! Every bone in my body hurt the next day. And was a wake most of the night.
- John (10/5): - No air conditioning, but did not need it. Did all transaction over the phone very convenient. They were sold out for the night. Felt very safe. Good parking.
- Alicia (10/5): - I can't say enough about how happy we are to have discovered this great place. It is super clean, great location, walkable to the bridge, walkable to restaurants and other attractions, yet away from high traffic and crowds. Very convenient check in process! No hesitation on booking again, and in fact, can't wait for the next chance to do so!
- Jill (10/5): - This motel has been obviously renevated fairly recently. It is roomy, clean and nicely laid out. I would definitely stay there again.
- Sue and Ted (10/5): - I was a bit concerned about self check-in. It went very well, though, and the motel was clean and comfortable.
- Emmylou (8/5): - Good location. We can in September only issue is that the carpet felt wet and moldy.
- Michael (10/5): - Surprised by the good quality of my room. Totally new and modern room in an obviously old style roadside motel. They even provided an understandable guide to using the TV! The totally automated check in via emails worked perfectly. Never saw an actual human staff person while here which is why I downrated staff/service but I really have no complaints. For the low price I did not expect free breakfast but the in-room coffee system was just like any other motel. A family style restaurant is just 2 blocks away.
- Jinger (10/5): - We needed to stop last minute and the was available. Pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness. Its an older place but we were very happy. It was quiet, neat and clean. Very close to the bridge, easy on and off. Will definitely stay again when needed.
- Vivian (8/5): - Liked the digital check-in and check-out. Rooms are well kept. Definitely will stay again.
- Larry (8/5): - Check in was by phone no staff for check in or out. TV didn’t work but was fixed. Bed was good sheets smelt good room was clean but no service for the week we were there
- Dennis (10/5): Incredibly clean and well maintained. - The owner of this motel must be OCD. Everything was unusually clean and very well maintained. It’s an old style motel, small and one story, but appears to be brand new. Not having a breakfast was a little annoying but we found a great breakfast place near the ferries so turned out to be a plus. All the arrangements were done without personal contact with staff. That worked well for us but if you are a high maintenance person that could a problem. Don’t expect a lot of frills. Pool was permanently closed and we never saw a gym or laundry room. That was fine for a lower price. It was close to Wienerlicous a great hot dog place.
- Martha (10/5): - We are return guests. It’s clean and quiet, with a convenient location and easy self check-in and check-out. The beds are a little bit firm for our liking but the other factors outweigh the beds so we will be back again.
- Matthew (10/5): Highly recommend! - Full of charm with a throwback vibe. Everything was very clean and well maintained. Perfectly located for exploring downtown Mackinaw or to catch a ferry to Mackinac Island. Loved that they send you a code and you don’t have check in. Made it stress free to get there on our schedule and walk right into the room.
Highly recommend and will stay here again anytime we bring friends or family to see Mackinac.
- Alisa (10/5): - This is a great place to stay. Free shuttle service to the ferry right out your front door!
- Judy (10/5): - Clean & safe. Friendly & helpful employees.
- Jonathon (10/5): - Clean,great check in & out system
- Weldon (10/5): 5 Star - Excellent place to stay!
- Michael (10/5): Comfy Night Stay - Small motel, but good for a nights stay. Clean, roomy, and close to walk to nearby restaurants .
- Eric (10/5): - Clean and comfortable.
- Timothy (4/5): - Very small, crowded parking, baby toilet, extremely noisy bed! Thermostat was not working, try to control temperature with noisy unit! Walls must be thin or lack insulation because we could here others talking.
- Jeanette (8/5): - I give this place the credit it deserves for what it is. It’s not fancy, but it’s is affordable, clean, comfortable and a great place for an overnight stop.
- Asandi (8/5): - The room was clean and comfortable. Check-in was simple and easy. Wish they had an iron.
- Brenda (8/5): Basic, clean room in a tourist town - Basic, clean room. Communications were excellent.
The bed was soft (uncomfortably) and squeaked a lot! The sheets were paper thin. The walls are thin; I could hear our next door neighbors phone alerts. WIFI was not dependable.
I know Mackinaw City is a tourist town but it is not a great value to pay $200/night (in September after the summer season with all fees/taxes included) for such a basic room.
FYI the pool is closed due to storm damage. The sign gave the impression that it will not be being fixed any time soon.
- RavenShade (10/5): Wonderful Experience! - If you are an introvert, this is the motel for you. It's not super fancy but it's well-maintained and the customer service is good. Their communication is clear. You can check in/out without talking to anyone - everything is sent to you via text. I asked for more towels and coffee and that was the only time I talked to anyone. We were otherwise left alone. I did put a blanket over the window to cut the light (all the rooms have lights on outside at night) and the AC was a little loud sometimes, but that became white noise.
The motel is very well placed for food, shopping, activities, and to get to the ferry. You can save the parking fee and just walk. If you are unfortunate like I was to need car repairs there's a garage with incredibly nice people a short walk away. It's also very affordable, especially compared to Mackinac Island but also in general. I paid more per night in Ohio.
The pool was closed for repairs, but we didn't plan to swim anyway. But if that's important to you, then be aware.
I would 100% stay here again.
- Nicole (10/5): - This is a great little motel. Pool was out of service, which was a bummer but the beds were comfy and within walkimg distance to the ferry! Will definitely stay again!
- Michael (2/5): - Advertisement said beachfront. Can’t even see the water
- ROBERT (10/5): - Convnient to town and bridge, Staff were very friendly and helpful. well property.
- Tracy (10/5): - Very clean, manager was very accommodating to each request that we had. Would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We were on vacation. The rooms are in very good shape. Beds were pretty hard and there was hair(a lot of hair) in the bathtub. The pool is also permanently closed.
- Susie (6/5): - convinent to downtown
- susan (8/5): - G
- Shauna (10/5): - Check in was flawless and super communication from the time out reservation was made until check out!
- Thomas (10/5): - Clean, Easy, and close to everything you want to do in Mackinaw
- Rochelle (4/5): - The room was clean and the beds were comfortable, but the bathroom was too small and the shower was difficult for my elderly father to get into and he was afraid to fall in the shower. Also, the air conditioner wasn’t on when we got there and it was old and took a very long time for the temperature to lower. The refrigerator also was not on and took time for the temperature to lower to preserve food.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The check-in is super convenient. The only problem with a motel with a front desk is that they have to be available via text/phone/internet. Also, the wifi didn’t work
- Paula (10/5): - Would stay again
- 73KayF (8/5): Clean Motel - This is the old-fashioned hotel of my childhood where you park right outside the door. It was pretty warm when I got there because the air conditioning was off, but it did eventually cool down. The refrigerator worked. There’s plenty of hot water in the shower. The room was extremely clean. The bed was comfortable. I would stay again. I would like to see blackout curtains on the windows since the lights out on the porch kept the room fairly light at night.
- Deborah (10/5): - The place is very clean that was what was good with us
- William (4/5): - While convenient to I75 and the ferries, it was very dated. Tub and shower were flaking, sheets and bed cover were old and worn, no shampoo or conditioner, air conditioner blew under the coffee table, could not sit in the outside chairs as hot air from AC unit blew on you, Carpeting appeared worn and dirty..
- Judith (10/5): Great lodging - My sister was skeptical about staying there. She wanted to stay in a Brand name hotel. She was pleasant surprised at how clean everything was. We both have back issues and the beds were awesome. Would definitely stay again.
- Kathryn (10/5): - We really loved it! Our room was spacious and charming. Would definitely recommend and stay there again.
- Dianne (8/5): - Just ok. Clean and updated.
- Curt (6/5): Call me - Decent price for what we got.
- albert (6/5): Dated but clean - Very dated but also great efforts at cleanliness
- Gordon (10/5): - The hotel is hands free as far as staff is concerned. Completely automated. They send an email with the room code as a room key to get into the room. We didn't talk to anyone.
The room was quaint, clean, and comfortable. The bed was good. Very convenient to the places we went to on the area. Thank you.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - never saw a person, all done on line, weird. room needed air fresheners. Comfortable and clean otherwise after I bought wizards and aired room out.
- Sue (8/5): - It seemed clean, I commented on it being clean a couple times. I took my shoes off, after walking across the room a couple timey feet were black, extremely dirty. Ohter than that it was great
- Lyndy (10/5): - The Vindel is the perfect example of roadside motel that has been renovated with an attention to detail. It was the perfect stay for us.
- Bashar (10/5): - Clean and quiet place.
- Jamie (8/5): Good for the price - Check in was very easy and the room was clean. The only issue was that it was hotter than we would have liked and it was not possible to adjust the AC. Also- the pool is not working and that would have been to have known ahead of time. Otherwise the room was exactly as advertised.
- Paul (10/5): - Some slight operating problems with tv. Everything else functioned well.
- justin (10/5): - This place was an absolute gem!! fantastic communication and a great place to stay. you won't go wrong making a reservation to stay here. thanks!!!
- James (4/5): - If you walked barefoot on the carpet, the bottoms of your feet would be black
Needed shampooed badly
Complained but nothing done
Internet was bad
Advertised with a pool
Pool permanently closed
- Julie (10/5): Great location - Convenient and comfortable place to stay in Mackinaw City.
- Steven A (8/5): - Overall a very good choice for a cheaper motel as a place to sleep and be a waypoint on your journey. The internet was a bit frustrating for streaming a movie but everything else was great. Quiet, clean, with a microwave and larger size fridge. Close to all the things in the Mackinaw area, the fort, Mackinac island and the ferry dock, the dark sky park and the downtown area.
- Laura (10/5): - Rooms were very clean and beds were very comfortable.
- Scott (8/5): Good value for one night stay, except the mosquito - Needed a hotel in mackinaw city for 1 night. While every other hotel was priced beyond reason, vindel motel was more reasonable. It was our first time staying in a motel. For one night, last minute booking it was fine. Very easy arrival and departure, checkin done completely remotely which was great. Place was decently clean, quiet, good enough for the one night stay. Only issue was the mosquitos. At night, they hang around the porch light outside the door and when we arrived there were several by the window inside the room that I had to kill. I would suggest that management hire a service to spray the outside of the rooms for the comfort of the guests.
- Philip (6/5): - Our third stay at the Vindel. Not quite as charming as our last visit two years ago. Bed was squeaky, bathroom baseboards needed to be cleaned and the pool was closed due to storm damage over the winter. Would have been nice to know this when making the reservation. If you are looking for a simple, classic motel this is for you. For the price we will probably stay somewhere else next time.
- Krista (10/5): - Amazing, quiet and close to shopping and dining. Clean, fresh room and so easy with the door key code!
- Laura (10/5): This place is the best - Super convenient location. Incredibly quiet. Clean and comfortable. We will be back the next time we atay in Mackinac City . Yall rock
- Charles (10/5): - Very clean.
- Lisa (10/5): - Love everything
- Wendy (10/5): - This hotel was retro and quaint. The room was very clean and well kept. It was convenient to everything we wanted to do.
- toni (10/5): - Even tho the hotel is not new, it was clean, comfortable and convenient for us. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. Being able to have front and back windows open was a plus also. The hotel is under new ownership and they are doing upgrades to the property. Would stay there again if we are in the area.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Communication and location were great but we did have several inconveniences during our stay. The air conditioning worked but it did not pull out the humidity; hence, everything felt damp and made it very uncomfortable. The sink drained slowly and the carpet left our feet dirty.
- Cynthia (8/5): - The Vindel Motel was just right for our overnight in Mackinac City! Nothing too fancy, but clean and convenient! They were very responsive with a question I had. Loved the no-check-in thing - they just sent the door code right to my phone. Great little place!
- Carol (10/5): - Room was good. Safe. No kleenex in room. Mattress mediocre
- GERRY (8/5): - The furnishing took me back to the 70's. No onsite personal, got the key code via email. The electrical outlets were hidden under the wooden wall panels.
- Kevin (8/5): - No staff. All done online. Worked fine though.
- tom (10/5): - Great stay nice room and property
- Joey (6/5): - Very surprised checkout is at 10:00am. Most places have 11:00 checkout
Was hoping to walk to church . Guess we will drive
- Sen (10/5): - Great place to stay!
- Stacey (8/5): - The motel room was comfortable and enough space for two people. The shuttle picked us up with no issues getting to and from the ferry dock. Easy check in/out. I was disappointed that the pool wasn’t open for the season, especially after spending a warm day on the island. A small bar of hand soap would have been helpful and the room had no smoke detector. Could see where it used to be in the ceiling. I suggest the diner up the street on the left. Breakfast was really good. Overall our stay was good.
- Hannah (8/5): - It was nice overall, it was just a little bit uncleanly and the pool was shut down.
- John (10/5): Efficient - They don't have a typical motel office. They email your room number and door code before you arrive. It's actually pretty efficient. The room was nice, clean, walking distance to the ferry. We were very pleased with it.
- Ray (10/5): - Seamless no fuss check in. Great room at a great price. Now our #1 choice for that area.
- Jill (10/5): - Great room! Check in was excellent, each door has a keypad instead of a key. You receive a text message on the day you check in and get your code, nothing else needed! Staff friendly and helpful. Pool was not available for use, not sure why.
- Pamela (10/5): - Easy check in. The room was very clean and close to shopping and dining. The only problem we had is that they only had one towel in the room.
- angiea11971 (10/5): Quiet and Relaxing - We went on a quick few day vacation just to relax. The Vindell Motel offered us just that. I was skeptical at first look since the outside is nothing fancy and I am not typically a stay in a motel person but I was pleasantly surprised. If you want comfortable, CLEAN and quiet this is the place for you. The beds are a simple memory foam and were very comfortable. The air conditioner is a wall unit but is controlled by a remote and works well and keeps the room cool. The pool was not open while we were there but that was ok with us as we were out and about most of the day. The only real downfall was that the lights outside were quite bright but the black out curtains took care of most of that. I would highly recommend the Vindell Motel.
- brian (8/5): - This was the perfect overnight stop on our trip to the Porcupine Mountains.
- Deborah (6/5): - This is what I would call a typical roadside motel from the 60s. The rooms are in an L shape with doors that open onto the parking lot. There is a pool but it was not open while we were there. The rooms are paneled in a dark wood and the overall feel is dark. The bed was very comfortable with nice bedding. Our room felt a little damp but it had been raining for a couple days. The bathroom was tiny but had great water pressure and plenty of hot water. They have an electronic key lock and they text you with the code. The TV was good.
- Robert N. (10/5): - A 1st for me... totally remote chack-in. This is a small, but very good motel; You are sent check-in alerts & a door lock combo @ the 4:00pm check-in time. Issues are handled via phone / text.
- William (10/5): Nice - This was a nice hotel compared to others in the area. Rooms were clean and the decor was up to date. Size of room was nice.
Check in was ok, you do have to wait until right at 4pm to get in.
The grounds had a little bit of trash but for the most part were nice. Parking lot can be a tad challenging get in and out once it is full.
We will gladly stay here again. It is not easy finding clean comfortable rooms in this area.
- Augie (10/5): - Great property. Very well kept. Hits all the wickets. Quiet, comfortable, clean. Great access to food and dining.
- JNB832 (8/5): Overall good stay. Very clean - Cute, clean great price. Just needed a bed for our motorcycle trip. But no coffee in the morning. Come on now. Not too much to ask.
- Vinita (10/5): - Spacious clean rooms with all the basic amenities
- Shubham (10/5): - Better than any hotel in Mackinac city.
- Rebecca (8/5): - I enjoyed the fact we could get in when ever we nededed to without visiting the front desk. The beds are rock hard but it was ok for the time we needed it for.
- Andrew (6/5): - there is no one here? I got a text with a code to open the door. No one to talk to about where to eat or anything.
- Marianne (6/5): - I took a couple of days to write a review, cause I wasn’t sure what to say, but here goes. This is what a motel should be, small wood paneled rooms, fridge, microwave, table, desk and chairs.
Would I stay here again ? Nope! Bed was horrible, heat was on and we had to run the air conditioner to compensate. My biggest problem was for the cost it is not worth it. There are plenty of nice hotel here, with breakfast and nicer rooms for if not same price, very close.
- wallybeary (4/5): It’s a MOTEL - This is a motel, nothing fancy. small wood paneled rooms, bed, desk, table land chairs. It does have a fridge, microwave, sorta queen bed, and shower. Good things, fluffy towels, nice pillows. Now for the bad, it’s a motel, bed was awful, heat wouldn’t turn off, had to run the air conditioner to compensate. There was construction in a room close to ours and biggest issue was price. There are a lot of hotel in the area, good rates with breakfast, not here too high priced, no breakfast, and crazy be out by 10 am, for other guest to park when check in is at 4pm and I mean 4pm.
- Tricia (10/5): - Clean, affordable and convenient to downtown!
- Fahmi (10/5): - It was a great experience
- Angela (10/5): - The hotel was very clean. It was a nice little property.
- Amy (10/5): - Great place. Very clean and quiet. Will definitely stay again
- Tony (8/5): - Great location.
- Christopher (10/5): - Very nice and clean! Enjoyed our stay!
