Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice location,clean, friendly
- Brandon (6/5): ED & ELLENS June 2018 - Pros: Staff very friendly and accommodating, Full kitchen to include dinning utensils and full size refrigerator. Inexpensive lodging.
Cons: Didn't appear to be the cleanest IMO. My wife found someone else's hair on our her pillow the first night and we thought there might have been mold on the shower curtain.
- Ole Tater (6/5): - The thing about staying here is it was for a trip that we didn't plan on spending a lot of time in the room. If that is what you're looking for, a place to lay your head thats it this will be a good cheap place to do so. It wasnt glamorous but it served its purpose. Dont come here if you are looking to relax by the pool and enjoy the outdoors because there is none of that here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything was adequate and clean. The proprietors were extremely available and personable. We were satisfied and likely to make this our Go-To place for kayak and snorkel trips to the Keys.
- Verified traveler (4/5): sad - Entering the room, one has to go up a poorly constructed stairs. The bathroom is same, when using the sink, right arm is touching the wall. Toilet is close to the left side of the wall.
One the positive side the room had a stove, a full refergator, but small.
- Lillian (2/5): Ikke billigt nok....
- Amy (8/5): Sweet and Simple - After camping for a week, this little bungalow type motel was perfect for us! It was clean and had all the things we needed (microwave, fridge, multiple beds, and convenient location). The price was fitting. We’d stay again.
- Patti (8/5): Hidden gem - Knew I wasn’t booking a high end motel, but this was everything I expected. A little outdated but clean & comfortable. Owners very friendly. Would stay again for the price.
- Pete (4/5): Needs help rooms are tired - Rome are in need of repair and upgrade. Mostly clean but run down inside and out. We thought it was a lot of money for what we got.
- Edward (4/5): Yuk - We will not stay there again.
- ms espinales (2/5): Uncomfortable too expensive for what they offer - Bad experience room very small and old the bed so uncomfortable the fitted sheet couldn’t fit the mattress kept coming out all night woke up with back pain bathroom even smaller and so noisy every time we turned on the light. for the services offered the price didn t match at all !it s not my first time in the keys and I v never been that disappointed with the hotel for 99 dollar per night I don t want any luxuries but just a decent facility
- william (8/5): Great Value - This is a real "diamond in the rough". Great kitchen, clean, comfortable and a great location. It is definitely not a high end chain hotel, but if you are an experienced traveler and want the Keys at an affordable price... this is the place.
- jason (2/5): Get what you pay for - Get what you pay for....first night toilet would empty it's bowl on the floor every time it filled up, couldn't flush. Owner said would call a plumber but then decided to fix himself. Next night, toilet would not flush and when you tried it would back sewage up from the drain on the shower and leave "solids" all in the shower. Could not use bathroom because of smell, had to go to the gas station. Owner said would get a nights refund....still have not seen it at all.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Not worth the price they are charging . Needs lots of modernization.
Need to put the money that they are charging to update the accommodation
- sheryl (4/5): Hmmmm... - Was a strange, old place. Not terribly clean. Water from shower hits the floor and is mildewed.
- BERNARD (2/5): Don't go. Not worth the money, - W e read mixed reviews and wanted something different. We wanted something quirky but it must doesn't compare to some of the fantastic places we have stayed in at similar rates. I had to apologise to the family for booking it. Little things like no coffee. There is an expectation (from me) that if you pay $130 a night you can have a coffee. We had to buy our own. As for quirky, it is characterless. The only think you can do is stay in your room watching the tiny 1970 TV. It is on a main road. Grrrrr
- Verified traveler (6/5): Surprised by extra fees - The hotel was OK...about what I expected. I was surprised when I checked in and the owner charged me an additional $110. When I asked about the charge all I got was that I only paid for one day. I thought that when I booked two nights through Expedia, there would not be any additional costs. Tell me the room rate up front and don't surprise me when I show up. I am really upset about this with both the hotel and Expedia.
- FLnative (2/5): Verbal insults/refused correct booking error prior - Ed & Ellen's Lodging Key Largo --Booking 7254153387808 on March 24, 2017 to reserve for nights May 5-7. When my wife confirmed, somehow the dates were changed to 6-8. Before the trip started my wife tried to get the reservation corrected but Ed & Ellen's Lodging Key Largo refused to even try to help. We were asked for a credit card to hold the booking [before we noticed the change in our requested dates] and they deducted the first day only 3 days after the reservation and well before the travel date. When I tried to contact the motel, Ed [I assume] started the conversation by insulting my last name and myself without even hearing my request. Glad we didn't stay there. Other reviews support a bad rating. They kept our reservation money and so we are entitled to our review. We found several honest places to stay during our trip to lay my Mother-in-Laws ashes to rest. My wife is a KW Native.
- MICHAEL (4/5): Would not recommend - Reasonably clean, carpet thread bare, pics of room were not accurate so our expectations of the unit were not met, uncomfortable beds, small shower, cheap soaps. I paid the same price for a night at a brand new (1 11/2 years old) Holiday Inn in Key West. Very nice with accommodations with a pool.We left a day early from Ed & Ellen's and went to the Holiday Inn I mentioned. We asked for a refund but it hasn't come through and probably won't. We were also very tired when we got in and just wanted to get settled in and go get something to eat. Ed kept talking. We had to practically kick him out of the room so that we could accomplish that. I'm not one to write a negative review but this was earned.
- Beth (10/5): - Very comfortable and affordable - Ed and Ellen are great folks !!!
- Travis (10/5): - My family and I stay at ed and Ellen's was very nice. The location was close to the city center but still private. the price was good as well as the ser
- Tija Esther (10/5): - The room is comfortable, but dated. It's not fancy. There is plenty of space and a kitchenette with a proper stove and all the utensils you need to cook for yourself. The biggest issue is the shower, it just doesn't have great water pressure or flow, but it's hot. The wifi worked well. There is an outdoor space at the front as well. It is on the highway, but I didn't find it noisy at night.
- Alan (8/5): - Old Florida motel but clean and cheap.
- lawrence (8/5): - First stop on Keys vacation. Ed was a hoot and gave us great advice on local eateries and a great happy hour. Not our usual type of lodging, but had a good time.
- Pauline (6/5): Great location... - Location was great. Owners very nice. Room was dated and not the cleanest room we've ever stayed in.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Cozy quiet lodge - Es and Ellen were great!
The rooms are old and out of style but we were very comfortable and it worked out great
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not like the photos - The location of this hotel is the best aspect. Ed was an interesting character and the outdoor area is nice, otherwise it was disappointing. The condition of the room was not clean enough for my liking and the facilities need upgrading.
- Fun in the Sun (6/5): A clean place to lay your head & shower - Let's face it you get what you pay for. The room, towels & linens were clean. Beds were firm like we need them, however, night two we became very sore as we're used to memory foam. It seemed creapy at first, but we slept like babies, no strangers around just a few friendly passer byes, and felt like we were at home. If you're looking for fancy this isn't it, but it's priced right for location. Absolutely no roaches! Owners are nice.
- Linda (8/5): - I was there to celebrate my sister's wedding. Had two other rooms with family members. Was really nice to be all together in a quaint hotel. This is definitely "Old Florida" ! Loved it ! AC could use upgrade, but for the price , the small, quaint. family owned fits the bill. Friendly, easy going owner. No hassles, really enjoyed my stay!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ok for one night stop over. - Hosts extremely helpful but property was a bit dated.
- Mike (4/5): only reasonably priced motel left on Key Largo - Imagine my surprise when they charged me $50 per night surcharge over the price I paid on Expedia.com. Enough said.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cheapest of Key Largo - I was looking for cheap place to stay in Key Largo and this was the cheapest place. It was nice addition to have stove with dishes because when I caught fish I was able to fry it. They also have grill outside that I could use. Ed gave me some coupons and recommendations where to go for the cheapest fishing and what to see around.
- John (8/5): - Ed & Ellens is situated very close to John Pennycamp Park. The park is great to snorkle, scuba, fish, kayak, swimming, and power boat rentals. If this is your interest then Ed & Ellens is the perfect place for the price. Other Boat rentals are close by as well. Key Largo is very laid back and the pace is slow. That is how to relax in K.L. If your pace is in sync, You will find Ed & Ellen's ok.
- Michael (10/5): - Great place to stay! The owners are very accomodating.
- Donald E (10/5): Great for the price! - Excellent for the price and plan to go there again!
- Eleen (6/5): a good stop on you way to key west - We loved the area and of course we will be back to stay in key west.
- Carlos (10/5): Everything you need and nothing you don't. - The owner lives in a big house at back and is super friendly. This is a mom and pop place for half the price of the next cheapest lodging in town. It's a fantastic place to lay your head during your keys journey.
- Verified traveler (2/5): 1950's .room - OLD. Had the conference room and it was very old. Lumpy bed. A hole in the bathroom ceiling. Old TV, not flat screen. It was a like a makeshift room.
- ruth (4/5): Needs updating - Basic facilities in a fairly convenient location for J Pennecamp coral reef park
- Verified traveler (6/5): The person who checked us in was funny. - It was not what I.expected, it was what was needed. Next time I will.pick closed to.key west. There is allot to.do close by this place. Snorkeling, at John penny's park. Every thing else is to far of a drive.
- M (2/5): Dirty, poor service, They need to clean and update - Was very disappointed with the whole experience. Had to leave and go to another hotel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): location good, hotel not - Owner nice, hotel needed work. The coffee pot was gross & the bathroom was sketchy
- Christina (6/5): Keys Trip - The room was clean. No bad smells. Good location. My only complaint was that some of the host's jokes were a little inappropriate and made my friend and I uncomfortable. Otherwise, its a good value for the money.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bad - I truly cannot believe that you list this place. Let me itemize a few of the conditions:
1) The smell of the place was as asphyxiating with chlorine. It dissipated as the days wore on. Yes, we were stuck for 3 nights!
2} A butter knife in the silverware tray was caked with mayo or some such
3) The bottom of the silverware tray was visibly dirty
4) The AC was far too old to cool the room...we were WARM, to say the least! Turning it down cooler only iced it up, making it warmer.
5) We had clorox wipes which we used to dust surfaces before we set anything down & the wipes were DIRTY! (should have taken pics of that)
6) The sink faucet knobs were caked with black mold which I mostly cleaned with one of their wash cloths & Comet. I should've had a video of all the black mold that went down the drain.
7) We did request that the bed spreads be freshly laundered when we arrived as we had 2 people in our party that had allergy problems. Ed said that wouldn't be a problem, but upon our arrival, he said that they were only washed on a schedule.
- Raul (4/5): Hotel needs a complete upgrade - Arrived at 320pm after I call 48 hours in advanced, no issues checking in the gentleman was very nice and provided lots of good information about the area.
- EA (2/5): The worst nightmare in paradise - I ended up stranded in a room full of mosquitoes with the rudest owner who refused to help.
At the end I did not stay
