Guest Reviews
- Setsuko (10/5): - very charming and tastfully decorated hotel.
every corner was refrected the owner's good sense.
and we were fortune stayed at Saturday because the dinner was offered only weekend.
good location for the following morning heading to the Highland Game at Crieff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great hotel and hospitality will call again. Breakfast excellent
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely staff, great food. Beautiful setting and quirky Inn. Disappointed that there was not a shower in our ensuite but a bath and no hot water for it. Would definitely go again but ask for a different room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were extremely helpful. We arrived slightly late for an evening meal but the kitchen stay open to provide an excellent dinner. We had a small puppy with us and the facility to have him with us was great. The room was large and clean with nice little extras.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - we liked ninety five percent of our stay,it was just the dark room we were not keen on allthough it was fine in ever other way.
- Julie (8/5): Weekend retreat - Under new management recently the hotel was still as well run as our last visit. The room was clean and the dining area very welcoming. The food was excellent with the exception of a mix up with our packed lunch on Sunday. I recommend the sirloin steak - it was amazing. Hoping to rebook for next year as it’s one of our favourite weekend retreats.
- Jo (8/5): - Very comfortable hotel with friendly staff. Nice choices for breakfast.
- Graeme (10/5): Great B&B with amazing customer care - Great place to stay, with amazing customer care.
Arrived very late for my booking due to an accident at a local golf course but this was not a problem. We were greeted with warmth and a smile.
It will be a place that I will go back to time and time again.
- R Michael (10/5): Great Scottish inn in the country - Stayed here for one night on our way through the area on a family trip. This inn is very comfortable and clean. Fantastic breakfast with hot choices. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Would have liked to stay longer, as it was one of our favourite stops.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good for the price - Room right for the price, food and evening service excellent. Breakfast staff need more training. Seated us, brought tea etc. Never mentioned two of the breakfast choices were off the menu .....until we tried to order them. Then a rushed choice of gravadlax and scrambled egg which turned out to be a poor choice. More of an evening starter dish due to the almost perfumed flavour of the gravadlax cure.
- Jaswinder (10/5): - its nice but bed Mattress not bit comfortable aprt from that everthing was nice
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely country Inn - Stayed overnight, had a lovely evening meal and breakfast. The Inn has recently changed hands and there are a few teething problems but it didn't spoil our stay. The rooms are very comfortable with nice decor and there's satellite TV.
- Sharon Adele (10/5): - This is a charming Inn in the middle of a hilly countryside and lovely trees. The rooms are cozy and warm and beautifully decorated. The staff were very friendly and we had a lovely stay. Be warned that there is no elevator but that is part of the country charm!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Hotel charges taken twice. - Ticked the box for a twin Superior room for two nights. On arrival we were advised that they were not informed by Hotels.com about a twin. Given an inferior family size room in annexe instead at a lower price. Bathroom shower was quite inadequate. Food was well executed by a good chef but table service at dinner and breakfast was disorganised. At check out we were charged the full amount for the room and for dinner plus drinks. However, we have now discovered that the original room rate was also charged to my credit card through PAYPAL.
Altogether, this was an very unsatisfactory experience and we will not use this hotel again. I only hope that I can retrieve my money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Brief visit - Last minute booking for a stopover but glad we did as great place with great location.
- Urumandi (10/5): Absolute Scottish hospitality. - Simply great. Traditional comfort in a beautiful glen. Nothing swanky, just lovely: cosy, delicious food and warm bar. Pheasants, deer and red squirrels. Wonderful vicinity for walkers.
- Bassa (10/5): Great inn - Lovely innn in the middle of beautiful countryside, very good food and staff. Lounge furniture a bit worn but suited the atmosphere with the wood burning stove. Rustic is how I would describe it
- Verified traveler (10/5): Traditional, welcoming, friendly, comfortable. - My daughter and I each booked a single room for 1 night. Both rooms were clean, spacious and cosy. Each of us had a small dog with us and the hotel was genuinely dog friendly. The evening meal menu was very good and the food was very tasty. Breakfast was great too, with an extensive and varied menu. Throughout our stay, all of the staff we met, from the owner/manager to the bag staff and restaurant staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful. We will definitely be back!
- Sheila (10/5): Very nice - The style and decor etc is really lovely. Nice period style with beams and real fires. The room and bathroom were spacious and great style. Good service, food and prices
- D and L (10/5): A nice cosy hotel - Perfect - After several days of being almost housebound due to heavy snow my wife and I decided to make a last minute booking at the Tormaukin Hotel.
The hotel is in a picturesque location and with the snow on the hills it was perfect. In addition it is very dog friendly.
We were warmly welcomed and shown our room. Although small, it was warm, clean and more than adequate with the usual, tea, coffee, shortbread and bottled water provided.
We spent the afternoon by the cosy wood burning fire in the bar area before having an excellent evening meal. The food on offer is not the usual 'pub grub' with amongst other things, duck, lamb, and sea bass on the menu. The food was superb and very reasonably priced.
Breakfast in the morning was again superb and varied. I defy anyone to be able to eat the large size of the full Scottish Breakfast.
All in all, an excellent country hotel in a great location, with friendly staff, great food and more than comfortable accommodation.
- lee (8/5): Days on the hills - Good food, old fashion feel ,cosy. Room was good ,shower needed attention to the shower head, everything else was well provided.
- derek (8/5): Nice hotel close to Gleneagles - When we arrived it had been snowing,so to our delight there were log fires ablaze and all the staff were very welcoming. We had lunch and dinner at the hotel and the food was very good and reasonably priced. The place was clean as was our room.We had a chalet room and there was plenty of room with huge comfortable bed, very quiet.
- stuart (10/5): - staff very friendly and rooms good sized in cabins. food excellent would defo go again
- andrew (4/5): hotels.com get your advert right - Pros- good size room, clean and comfortable, free onsite parking, price good value, nice area if your there for the walking and not business. Cons- restaurant overpriced, ran out of some menu items, No wifi in the rooms as advertised by hotels.com main reason for booking for business users. Some staff must have been in training as the person showing to the room just dumped the keys and walked out. took a while to workout how to switich the tv on, switch on radiator, didnt know were or what time breakfast would be served. Didnt seem to be any other restauarnt in village so ate there 1st night and drove to Perth for dinner second night. wouldnt put anyone off from staying, but just be aware of drawbacks of being in sleepy village
- Verified traveler (8/5): Weekend break - we love this hotel's friendly staff. Kind and polite service , there is even complementary mineral water and hot chocolate in your room! we have travelled with family inclusive our four legged vip and had a great time! I Breakfast is absolutely fantastic! Lovely little inn tucked into fabulous scenery.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely meal - Superb good excellent service xx xxx. Xxxxxxxxx
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely food menu and great location - Short stay but lovely menu, hotel ad would highly recommend
- Verified traveler (6/5): good base to visit the area - first time visiting this hotel for 20 years. The hotel appears to be in a time warp having not changed in all that time and is badly in need of refurbishment both internally but particularly externally. The best part of the stay (as before) was the food which was imaginative and well cooked. We had our dog with us and the staff were most understanding and welcoming. We would return but hope the new owner has the time and resources to upgrade his operation.
- Elisabeth (8/5): One Night Stay - Only stayed here for one night on our way back to London from Dornoch. Check in was very easy and the staff were delightful. The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was great and portions were generous. My only gripe is that I needed to access wifi for business purposes and could not get online from my room. It is advertised as having wifi in the rooms and it was on this basis that we booked to stay here. The Inn is in a fairly rural location so transport is needed.
- Olderbird (10/5): Great hotel. Lovely food and staff - Enjoyed our stay. Staff very down to earth, helpful and friendly. Food excellent.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff at this hotel.
- Julie (10/5): Inviting Country Inn - Off the beaten track but ideally placed for our weekend, the Tormaukin is a lovely country inn. Very efficient and friendly staff with an inviting atmosphere as soon as you walk in the door. Our room was very comfortable and clean and we even had Sky Tv! The food on the restaurant was good and we were able to swap our breakfast for a packed lunch when we had an early start. A very enjoyable weekend which we are hoping to repeat again next year.
- richard (10/5): - Great food. Very nice helpful staff.
- Andrew (10/5): - We had a lovely overnight stay at the Tormaukin Inn. We found it very friendly and welcoming
- Tracy (6/5): Nice place but beware of using Expedia - We stayed for a night at the Tormaukin and were very satisfied with the room, except for the bed. It had a divot in the middle and my husband and I spent the night trying not to roll towards the centre of the bed. Otherwise the room was nicely appointed. Breakfast was very good with lovely croissants and a good selection of hot dishes. The problem arose when we checked out. We had paid by Expedia. The clerk told us we still owed £61. My husband didn't have the proof from Expedia with him so he paid. Later when he returned with the receipt from Expedia he was told there was nothing the clerk could do and the manager would handle it. When my husband called the manager later, he was told that we were refunded our money. We checked with our credit card company and were told no refund was made. It was only after contacting Expedia that we received our money several days later. The hotel was fine but being lied to by the manager left a sour taste in our mouths about the Tormaukin.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Charged for room twice. Room was not great Dissappointed. Having been charged twice, it took speaking to several staff before the refund was made. The did, however, apologize.
- Helen (10/5): Hotel was warm and welcoming - Arrived late at night and the hotel staff couldn't do enough for us. The laid a table and ensured we had an evening meal. The bar staff were very helpful and the room was very clean.
Breakfast was a very good choice of food and was inc in the price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great stay food excellent staff friendly - Staff very friendly and attentive we stayed in a log challet room at back it had a porch area with seating it was comfortable quiet room food both dinner and breakfast was excellent
- Robert (2/5): - from outside it looked scruffy although inside was clean and bar and restaurant were clean however although the bedroom looked alright you could feel the bed springs on one side of the mattress which did not give a comfortable night sleep. The hot tap on the basin was very reluctant to give off its hot water 10mins to fill basin, when reporting this all we got was we will look into it today which was of little consolation to us Could not finish mushroom soup as thickening had made it gloopy and left lumps
Photos of site were deceiving as hotel sat on roadside and at rear went up steep slope so exercising you or dog was not easy
- Barry (10/5): Nice secluded hotel in picturesque area. - Large room for hotel. Family friendly and good meals. Lovely position.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Convenient hotel on our cycle route. - Great room and en-suite. Also lovely staff and great restaurant and food.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cosy friendly place to stay - Looked after me very well, felt at home and safe. Car parking was good, and meals were excellent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Birthday celebrations.
- Lee (8/5): A great find - Warm welcome and comfortable room with nice selection of tea, coffee and biscuits. Plenty of parking and lovely lounge area as well as the bar.
Breakfast was nice with attentive staff on hand.
Now for the words of advice to travels arriving late. Food stopped at 20:45 with no snacks available other than crisps. Suggest hotel offer a ploughmans or something.
Breakfast was very quiet, too quiet. Would recommend back ground music or local radio station
- Peter (8/5): Great place to stay when playing golf at Gleneagle - Situated only 7 miles from Gleneagles Golf Resort, this is an ideal place to stay for golfing groups. Rooms are pleasant if simply furnished but have all of the facilities you may want. Mattresses are a bit on the soft side for my back and rear rooms suffer a little from fan noise but the overall welcome and service is very good. The restaurant food is excellent if a little expensive for everyday eating.
- Anita (8/5): A family with dog - It was comfortable, the staff were nice and helpful. We were with our dog and they are really pet-friendly.
- Carron (8/5): Lovely small hotel - A hotel with character this was our 3rd stay there. Food is good and staff were lovely. Our only complaint is the bed !! Not comfortable at all. Hotel was clean and not a bad view. Look out for the red squirrels very cute.
- Philippa (10/5): Fabulous hotel in the Scottish countryside - We booked a 2 night stay in this dog friendly hotel. The staff are lovely; very friendly and helpful. The room (we had a chalet room) was big with a huge, very comfy bed, tv, bath and shower, tea making facilities and hairdryer. The food was wonderful with great choices (it is NOT pub grub) but much, much better. Half board is recommended if you don't want to drive somewhere for dinner as there is nothing nearby, it is also excellent value and there is a good wine list. Breakfast is a huge choice and all cooked to order. We took our dog who was welcome everywhere except the restaurant, but they do have a side restaurant where you can dine with your pets there. They are welcome in the bar. The bar is cosy with a wood burner and there is a small sitting room with comfy sofas, books, games and an open fire. Altogether a lovely place and would highly recommend it.
- Kenny (4/5): Disappointed - We paid for d/b/b in a deluxe room. we arrived and was shown to a chalet #12 at the rear of the building. We asked reception if there was a mistake with the room. She agreed and showed us two others and we picked #6 the bed was two singles pushed together a shower not suitable for larger people (we are not so could manage) but in summary not deluxe. The bar/dining staff were very helpful and friendly, the chief was also to a high standard however only 10% of the menu changed on the second day. If dinner Inc/price for two your meals are up to £50 then a surcharge for the remainder. It is worth knowing it is in the middle of nowhere and for what we paid expected a spa/health suite. On leaving we were not asked if we were happy with our stay just sign/pay bill no goodbye nothing, and from a receptionist who didn't even iron her clothes.
I don't see us going back any time soon.
- geo (10/5): - I stayed here because it was close to a job, im glad i did. Great staff, room and food.Definatley be back.
- Brian (10/5): Nice hotel for weekend stay - Nice hotel, staff made the stay as they were excellent
- Julia (10/5): Lovely country pub - great food - great
