Guest Reviews
- CLAUDIA MILAGROS (10/5): -
- David (9/5): -

- BLANCA ESTHER (10/5): - Muy tranquilo, excelente personal

- Adrian (7/5): -
- Paul (10/5): A quiet stay in Moyabambo - The location just outside the center of town is great. You don't hear traffic noise at all. I had a restful night's stay. Make sure to take the guided walk In the hotel's private rnature eserve leading down to the river. An additional fee for a boat ride Is worth it. I felt that 1/2 hour was sufficient.
Very clean and well appointed room. Enjoyed the pool as well.
- Espinoza Llontop (8/5): Muy buena - Sus instalaciones La lejanía
- Jose PUERTA VILLACORTA (5/5): -
- Daniel (10/5): - Property as described on Expedia. Very nice.
- Walden (10/5): - This is a very nice hotel with excellent staff and service. It has lovely grounds. Some evenings music from local establishments is a bit loud. The breakfast is excellent, but dining options are limited.
- Christopher (10/5): Top Tier! - This was the most unique, beautiful location I have ever stayed at. We were at an upscale resort in Tumbes earlier in the trip, and this far exceeded the service, tranquility, cleanliness, scenery by far. The view looking out at the pool and beyond to the backdrop of the green hills of Moyobamba was absolutely breathtaking. Though we did not partake in the tour that is included for guests, we heard great reviews from other guests who were staying there during our same time. Everything was absolutely top tier at Altavista, we will absolutely be recommending and be back again next year! ( Our family is in Rioja )
- Pamela (10/5): Exceptional - All the services worked well, the view of the Mayo river was amazing and the visit to their own private conservation area ⭐️ The menu in the restaurant doesn’t have enough options
- Santos (8/5): A memorable experience not only because of the hotel but because we got to enjoy time with Family. - The view of the mountain. The peace that falls upon one when walking the property. The best 2as the hike to Rio Mayo & the guide sharing history, this was the best part of the hotel! That & the pool 💯❣️ It was my husband's birthday & I made the staff aware, long story short, I asked for a special dinner & really nothing was done. Looked like any ordinary dinner with a cake. I say this because other hotels decorate or at least put a Balloon & HBD sign up. This was my only downside.
- Mario (10/5): Comfortable, clean, spacious with good customer service - Everything
- Renee (10/5): Nice quiet hotel in the busy city of Moyobamba. - Garden-like setting, very peaceful. Breakfast was freshly prepared and served overlooking the gardens and lovely pool area. I wish they would have told us that early in the morning they feed monkeys and birds at a blind - if I had know, I would have gotten up early to go. For the level of facilities, a little expensive.
- Jonatan (5/5): nice place... needs work! - The place was great! The location overlooking the valley was perfect. The hotel was nice and clean staff was friendly. the room was a DISASTER!! You could hear EVERYTHING from adjacent rooms! EVERYTHING! The talking, the TV and the... you know! A neighbor woke up at 5 am and turned on his TV, and we could hear it all.... We had to bang on the wall to have him turn it off. The other neighbor snored like a truck and would NOT let us sleep. The room's windows faces the pathway, and if the curtain isn't closed correctly, they can see you changing and sleeping. Also, this makes the rolling suitcases loud, and the talking seems to be in the room when people walk by. The window is HUGE, so very NOT PRIVATE!
Also, we need a buffet breakfast by now. Breakfast was good, but there were no options!
- Gabriel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Curtis (10/5): Exceptional - The property is beautiful, with a lovely covered restaurant terrace for eating, working, and taking calls, and an incredible view overlooking the Alto Mayo river valley. They even have a private tract of conserved forest with a trail from the hotel down to the river. I was able to see dozens of species of birds from the hotel grounds and forest, as well as two species of monkeys—the critically endangered Rio Mayo Titi Monkey, in the forest, and Andean Saddle-backed Tamarins that paid a visit to the roofs and trees near the restaurant terrace.
The rooms are very comfortable and the staff are all friendly and helpful. And the food they serve is delicious!
My group stayed here several times (in between trips to other areas) over our 10 days in the region, and it always felt like a welcoming home base. No complaints!
- Alejandro (5/5): Passable -
- Jeff (1/5): Very bad - Nothing it was to far out the room had no air conditioning like the website said Bad experience I travel all over Peru and have never been so disappointed I was unhappy with the room they said cancel and we will upgrade you to a bigger room with air conditioning I replied if I cancel you will charge my card one day for that then they said we will do it anyway when I checked out it was 80 dollars more and they said I can’t pay on Peruvian dollars I had to pay in us dollars we could have stayed in the nicest hotel in moyombamba for that price which I will never book on booking dot com ever again the hotel said hurry we only have one room left at this price but Friday night I think we were the only guest and Saturday night there was one other please use my reference and give them the bad review they deserve
- Fabi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (8/5): The grounds are beautiful but there are negatives too... - The property is kept exceptionally clean with beautiful gardens. Very spacious. The breakfast was excellent, although basically the same thing every morning. Always bread, a fruit plate, coffee (French pressed), and eggs - your choice of style. You can eat other meals there as well. I liked that you could walk to town easily if you wanted to (maybe a 15-20 min walk) or stay on the outskirts where this hotel is; there were trails you could take nearby to the river.
I also like that they had a locking gate on the entry of the hotel which the receptionist needed to open. This made me feel more secure.
The shower was great - nice pressure and hot water. The soap was good quality and not those cheapie bars.
The wifi was so-so.
It was really nice having the pool there too. After a hot day of hiking or just a hot day, it was so refreshing to jump in the pool and go for a swim. I was always the only one in the pool. They have a racketball court as well; beautiful views behind the hotel of the the river Mayo and surrounding mountains. For me, the one thing that was a negative was no offering of purified water. As a tourist, it is important to me to drink purified water and for a hotel this size and for the price I paid, I expected this courtesy. Every other hotel I stayed at offered this.
Personally, I felt the bed was hard. That is my judgment and others may not agree. I also did not care for the location of the room I was given. I stayed 5 nights and there were maybe 25-30 available rooms? and maybe under a handful of guests staying there during this time. Why I was given a room closest to the street and not in a quieter area of the hotel is puzzling. I didn't like that you can never close up the room as the windows are only bars with screens on the other side. So any noise outside comes straight into the room (no sound barrier for the motos and roosters crowing in the morning). The curtains DID block out the light - which is rare and was welcomed.
At checkout, I waited an hour for my credit card to be charged in dollars and it never was accomplished. I ended up paying in soles just to get on with my day and the exchange rate given me was higher than it should have been, so I ended up paying $3 more per night than the rate I was quoted. I also asked about laundry service and was told it was 10 soles PER ITEM. That is so outrageous that I washed my clothes myself. So, little things like that irritated me.
- R&b (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hernan (10/5): Excelente estadía - Muy bonito hotel. Las personas muy amables.
- Lydia (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay at AltaVista. The lodging and landscape is a hidden gem In moyobamba - We loved the accommodations, staff, and amenities. The staff was so helpful to helping us book taxis and making sure we had an enjoyable stay. The entire place was spotless and well taken care of. It was a lovely stay Nothing!
- Emilio (10/5): - Hotel staff was extremely friendly and eager to help. The property is beautiful and has an outstanding view of the river and valley; and is located just out of the noise of the city but very easy to get to it.
Would be back without a doubt
Thanks alta vista for the great days we passed there!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - We stayed at the Altavista hotel in mid April, when a large group of us (20) were there for a medical mission. The property is located about a 10-15 minute walk from downtown Moyobamba. There is no formal security, but there is a locked gate for cars and people entering, and you must be buzzed in. We felt very safe there and in Moyobamba in general. The grounds are pretty, sprawling, with a beautiful view of a valley when sitting by the pool. Down a long path toward the pool you find a sports court with a paddle and basketball court (rims about 8 feet, no nets and crooked). Pool is nice. No jacuzzi.
Rooms are decent and clean with high vaulted ceilings. Not much amenities in the room. A small table and side chair is there. TVs in every room with a lot of channels, picture a bit grainy, bathrooms fine. Half our group did not have hot water for much of the trip, although my shower in room 110 was always hot.
Food was decent. Breakfast every morning consisted by of fruits, breads, eggs made to order and things like sausages or plantains. Staff was kind enough to prepare at 6:45AM for us as we had to leave early on most days.
One issue we had was slow service, taking 1.5 hours to prepare dinner or 45 minutes for pisco sours. We ended up deciding to eat elsewhere on most nights or get drinks on our own because of this.
In the end— it’s a fine hotel with clean rooms and friendly staff. Good for groups who just need to eat breakfast together and don’t need amenities
