Guest Reviews
- DIANA (10/5): Beautiful Mansion - One night stay for Pirates game. Beautiful, historic mansion. Great breakfast included! Very welcoming and hospitable staff. Parking is available on street out front. I think we got the last spot on the street…busy due to construction next door.
- Andrea (10/5): - The House was gorgeous - we only stayed one night, but it was a perfect spot to walk to PNC Park for a game. Host was amazing! Made us feel right at home.
- Kristen (10/5): - Absolutely wonderful!
- Deborah (10/5): - Cyndi our host was spectacular! Would not have been as welcoming and lovely without her! She went out of her way to make my stay a great one. She is so humble and conscientious and perfect for her position!
- Christopher (8/5): - We enjoyed the Executive Suite on the 3rd floor. Be aware that the inn is undergoing some renovations and, while that didn't impact us much, others may feel differently. The wi/fi was a little spotty on the 3rd floor but worked well in the common areas on the first floor and the huge front porch.
The best part of our stay was the host, Cyndi. She was attentive but not intrusive and was great to chat with. The Expedia listing said there was a continental breakfast but Cyndi gave us a hot breakfast every day.
The neighborhood around the inn is about halfway gentrified, but it was close to so many things. We were able to walk to dinner most nights of our stay, and all the north shore museums and stadiums were within about a 20 minute walk. Don't miss the National Aviary across the street in the park.
- georgia (8/5): - The room was musty and had severe water damage on the walls above bed and ceilings. There was a loud noisy window air conditioner. The size was comfortable but the room and bathrooms weee old. It was clean. There were no upgrades for Expedia VIP gold/silver. They had other rooms they open they could have chosen. However breakfast was great and staff was (Cyndi) was wonderful. location was easy and comfortable, parking was plentiful. No restaurants in area open on Mondays.
- Elaine (10/5): Amazing! Better than 5 stars! - I booked my stay primarily because of price and proximity to PNC Park, but oh my goodness it was better than the best hotels I've ever stayed at. No room service, but a hot, homemade breakfast every morning—deliciously cooked by Cindy, who handles everything at the inn from greeting to cleaning. She even carried my heavy suitcase up to my room. Amazing, personalized service in a serene, lovely mansion. Made my trip a dream!
- Nancy Anne (10/5): - Beautiful property. Charming innkeeper. Delicious breakfast. Wonderful experience. Hope to return.
- Paul (10/5): - Fantastic home in an eclectic neighborhood. House is under relatively new ownership and they are still working through a few upgrades/updates, but still very comfortable and quiet. Was modestly worried about parking but that was not a problem for us. The park directly across the street is a plus and the easy walk to Starbucks for 6am coffee was easy enough.
- Susan (2/5): - Management was inappropriate. The building ownership changed hands and all of the finances from the prior management did not change hands. I looked through past emails to show proof of pricing. She told me she locked the door to our unit so we couldn't get in and she was calling the police on us for not paying after I sat in her office for one hour with my cc on her desk next to her. She accused us of evading her as we were volunteers at the USGA Open tournament and needed to be there at 6am. The first night she didn't give us a key and answered the door in skimpy underwear. There was heavy mold in the ceiling and walls which made me sick.
- Daniel (10/5): - Just a wonderful place to stay! From the beginning, when you walk into the wonderfully furnished mansion with soft music playing, to a comfortable room, to a porch overlooking a commons!
It is easy access to the city, walking distance to the ballpark, and the national aviary is right around the corner!
The highlight of the week were sumptuous breakfasts prepared by our hostess Cyndi, each day a surprise or cooked to order, to be eaten in the lovely dining room or outside on the porch!
Cyndi was responsive to our requests, and it was so nice to have her on site!
Just a pleasure!
- narda (10/5): - The site was beautiful inside and out.
The hostess/caretaker Cynthia was delightful.
Parking easy out front. and so convenient from the highway traveling in and out.
- Mike (8/5): - A great old historic building, Cyndi was a great host, she is attentive and helpful with all needs. Would stay there again.
- Jeremiah (10/5): - Great place to stay. Convenient location with the friendliest staff ever. House was beautifully done inside and out.
- Pam (8/5): - The beautiful historic home is located next to a park, and is within walking distance to Acrisure Stadium where we attended a concert. Walking back to the inn at night as a female felt slightly intimidating. There were no issues encountered during the walk. The accommodations differ from standard hotels, as there is no elevator, ice machine, or mini fridge. Parking on the street is free and was not problematic in finding a parking spot. Overall, it is a location worth visiting again.
- Gary (10/5): - Sam was very pleasant and responsive. Great building, but needs some updates by the new owners. Location is right across from a park and close to downtown.
- James (8/5): Great Experience - The Boggs Mansion is a restored old mansion with 8 rooms all of which are different. Guests are welcomed by a live-in house manager who attends to guest needs and provides breakfast each day. My wife and I loved our stay. The free parking, price point, large room, and downtown proximity were a big plus as was Samantha, the house manager. The mansion is old, however, and while rooms were homey and large, they do lack some of the things you find in a newer hotel (better lighting, larger bathroom). But then what else would you expect from an old classic Mansion, Right? If we visited Pittsburgh again, we would go back.
- Tim (10/5): - Excellent friendly staff perfect location for what we were doing 😁
- Judith (10/5): - Everything we wanted to see was walking distance. Parking out front of mansion. Sam was a fabulous host and property was beautiful!
- Brandon (10/5): - The history and ambience of this property is worth the visit alone. The staff is more than welcoming and the facility is beautiful. Bogg’s Mansion is well worth the visit for any North Shore activities you have planned.
- Evan (10/5): Gem in the downtown area! - Great and cozy stay in Pitt, very walkable to downtown and the stadiums. Staff was super kind and accommodating. Will plan to stay here every time in headed to Pittsburgh.
- Brianna (10/5): - Sam was an absolute pleasure to have as a host. Sam went above and beyond for me and my husband. Even as far as keeping an eye on the weather for us as we had a 7 hour drive back home. Keeps plenty of snacks and drinks stocked for guests. You always see Sam maintaining the property from sunrise to sunset. I would love to come back every time we visit the Pittsburgh area. Off street parking in the front for free as well as parking in the back. We did not get to experience the courtyard due to weather but we say was beautiful. Sam brings a sense of home to a historic building. I recommend this place to anyone who wants a quiet couples getaway. I wouldn’t recommend children personally (as a mother) since it is a rather old building so sound definitely carries through the walls or floorboards. Sam also gives a brief 5 minute historic walkthrough as you check in and gives you a history to the building and surrounding area that involved the Boggs family. Old photographs were placed in a binder in the parlor for guests to look at. And if you want to leave a kind note for Sam there is a notepad there with nothing but positive reviews from 2022. I know most of the reviews center around the famous chocolate chip cookies….my husband the biggest sweet tooth I know said “Honey these are the best cookies I have ever put in my mouth.” Only downfall is no elevator for those who need one. I hope you all love it as much as my husband and I did.
- Scott (10/5): - We always enjoy a stay at the Bogg's mansion. It is always comfortable, quiet, and beautiful. We like the breakfast nook; it encourages chatting with other guests, which is like being around the same table in a smaller BnB.
- Erica (10/5): - Staying at the Boggs Mansion really made you feel at home. Sam was very welcoming and the breakfast was scrumptious. Would definitely stay here again.
- Rebecca (10/5): - I felt like a VIP staying at historic mansion.
Sam personalized my visit by listening to requests.
Quiet oasis.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Boggs Mansion was a beautiful place to stay. Across the street was a wonderful park. Sam was very hospitable and gave us a tour of the property. Definitely worth staying!
- Steven (10/5): - Friendly staff and nice location
- Jennifer (10/5): - What a great combination of comfortable lodging and experiencing history! It was such a beautiful property and very conveniently located.
- CHIALING (10/5): - We stayed at the In for a wedding which the reception was held at the Mattress Factory. It took about 5 minutes walking to it, very convenient walking back after the party. The neighborhood was lovely with a nice park across from the Inn; many historic buildings to appreciate while exploring the town. The Inn’s staff was very friendly and helpful. I had the homemade welcome chocolate chip cookies. We like the Victoria style decor and our room was spacious, for two of us, there was a king size bed in the bedroom area, a full size kitchen, a small bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a small living room area.
- Jody (10/5): - This property is amazing!
The host Jeff was very thorough & helpful!
We will return often!
- Timothy (10/5): - The hosts were super friendly and knowledgeable about the city. The facility is amazingly charming. It’s also in a great location in the city for walking anywhere you want to go.
- Stephanee (8/5): - Fun historic inn in Pittsburgh. We loved the location. Walkable to PNC and Heinz Field, as well as National Aviary and Andy Warhol. Lots of great Northside Restaurants. On street parking.
- michael (10/5): - Great place to stay!
- Deborah (10/5): - Beautifully restored Victorian home formerly used by Carnegie with a very large park across the street within walking distance of PNC Park. The owners are wonderful and very hospitable. They will tell you the history of the area and the home if you’re interested. There is a self serve continental breakfast and snacks included. You will have to walk up stairs to your room as being a Victorian home there is no elevator.
- Shawn (8/5): - This inn is located in a grand Victorian house at the edge of the Mexican War Streets neighborhood, directly across from a large park. The innkeeper is very friendly and easy to work with. The common areas retain some of their historical character and there is a very nice porch facing the park. The room we stayed in on the third floor was simple but comfortable (window AC unit, etc.). Street parking was not a problem right in front of the inn (no onsite parking). The inn serves a very basic continental style breakfast more typical of a commercial hotel rather than a B&B. Other room amenities like the TV were basic (very limited channels, small, etc.). Surrounding neighborhood is very interesting with attractions like the Mattress Factory art museum or National Aviary in easy walking distance. Dining options nearby are surprisingly limited, but there are a few places (the local Monterey Pub was worth checking out) and it is very easy to get to other neighborhoods in Pittsburgh from this location.
- Mark (10/5): Beautiful home - Beautiful and comfortable home; away from the busy parts of the city, but close enough to enjoy it. A short walk gets you to the action near the three rivers. Friendly staff is a plus.
- J (10/5): - Jeff was great. He makes the best chocolate chip cookies. The restaurants he recommended were amazing. Museums, Sports, Aviary, beautiful Architecture and more are conveniently accessible from this historical and lovely Mansion. Very enjoyable stay!
- Elena (10/5): - The Inn on the Mexican War Streets was reminiscent of old world elegance, charm and opulence. And, most important, the hosts, Jeff and Karl, and the property caretaker, Tom, are among the kindest, most generous, decent and warmest people you will ever meet. There is no price that you can put on a stay that makes you feel like you are staying in an European grand hotel resplendent in old world luxury, but where you are treated like royalty. The complimentary / complementary breakfast, was the most delicious breakfast I have ever eaten outside of my mom’s cooking. The baked goods were phenomenal. We got a million dollar experience for an unbelievably reasonable price.
- Kristina (10/5): - Third time staying here. Great location and the owners are delightful. The room was lovely-very comfortable beds!
Overall fantastic visit!
- Jody (10/5): - I love this place to stay.
So unique & comfy!
Jeff & Karl are amazing hosts!
- Arthur (8/5): - Historical but outdated.
- Mary (10/5): - Third time here. Always enjoyable
- Cindy (10/5): - Beautiful place and Jeff was very warm and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious and our room was lovely!
- Susan (10/5): Inn stay - This is our 3rd time staying at the Inn. Great location - close to downtown, stadiums and Stage AE. The hosts are always outstanding. Neighborhood has great food and beverage options
- Kaitlin (10/5): - So much history and so much kindness! We felt so welcome and comfortable. We would definitely recommend this over any hotel.
- Scott (10/5): - The innkeepers were very friendly and accommodating for my late arrival. Beautiful property and park across the street. Very close to stadiums.
- Kristen (10/5): - We stayed one night and loved it! Everything we needed. Jim was great with restaurant recommendations and showing us the best ways to walk downtown. Will definitely book again.
- Sarah (10/5): - Beautiful building, great location, and a gracious host. Highly recommended
- Linda (10/5): Best place to stay in Pittsburg - This place is a real gem! It’s clean, charming, unique, and filled with history. The innkeeper, Karl, will happily tell you as many stories as you have time for. The room was lovely, as were the various common areas of the old mansion. I particularly enjoyed relaxing on the large front porch and enjoying the scenery—not only is the hotel itself a great find, the location is fantastic! It’s situated directly across the street from Allegheny Park which has the National Aviary as well as several museums and galleries within walking distance. If you need any recommendations for great dining in the area or sites to go visit while you’re in Pittsburg, Karl is the guy to ask. Oh, and did I mentioned freshly baked chocolate chip cookies are provided for all of the guests? Seriously, you can’t go wrong staying here. I look forward to coming back!
- Nancy (10/5): - Charming Bed and Breakfast. Very comfortable
- Pam (10/5): - The owner, Carl, will entertain you with lots of stories. He is fun and colourful. Unfortunately Jeff was out of town while we stayed at the inn so we didn’t have the opportunity to meet him.
The building alone is fabulous. Ask for a tour of the once was restaurant in the back that remains in tack.
The beds were so comfortable and rooms are very spacious. Bonus - the rooms have a small fridge. You will need to bring your own amenities such as cream (and conditioner if you are staying in the front room).
You don’t stay here for the breakfast, you stay here for the luxury of being in a 1800’s revamped mansion. Jeff and Carl kept the integrity of this gorgeous home.
And if you are a piano player, there is a lovely baby grand in the front room for you to play. Truly, it is a remarkable inn.
- hannah (10/5): North side mansion experience - Wonderful host with helpful local recommendations, who have us a lovely upgrade to large room with view of the flowering trees in the park. Very comfortable historic mansion within walking distance of many attractions.
- vincent (10/5): Gorgeous Bed and breakfast - Beautiful old restored historic mansion.
This is the ideal bed and breakfast.
Great location right across a large park which contains a children’s museum and planetarium and also the National Aviary which is a must see. Within walking distance is a terrific Thai restaurant called Nicky’s which deserves more than one visit.
- David (10/5): - Really enjoyed staying with Jeff and Carl and Tim
- Albert (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay at this historic and conveniently located property. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the hosts were wonderfully helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay there again!
- Matthew (10/5): - Fantastic bed and breakfast with very kind and welcoming host. The grounds are gorgeous and conveniently located to the happening areas of Pittsburgh. The breakfast was perfect with many options available. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The story of the mansion was very interesting and made for a fascinating stay. I highly recommend the Inn over any other hotel or motel in the area.
- Melissa (10/5): Great location and lovely place! - Very lovely place we highly recommend staying here!
- Julie (10/5): - We had an amamzing time the hotel was fantastic
- Jessica (10/5): - An absolutely stunning home. You can see all the hard work and love poured into the house. The owners and house cleaning are wonderful to talk to, and friendly too boot. It was a wonderful stay and nice to be treated so kindly before the holidays.
- Denise (10/5): Wonderful place! - A beautiful place to stay. Friendly owners. I’d stay again in a minute!
- Sara A (10/5): - The place was so beautiful and historic. Jeff and Carl were so helpful, made you feel like family. Every room was so uniquely decorated for the holidays, so stunning.
- Verified traveler (8/5): charming and convenient - Charming place. Beautifully renovated back in 2000, though it could use a bit of work. Breakfast is self-service, not fancy but sufficient and tasty. Very reasonably priced. Owners are friendly and helpful. Probably staying here on our next trip to Pittsburgh.
- Mike (10/5): - Jeff was a wonderful host and the home is stunning
- Shepherd (10/5): Incredible 1880s Mansion with Uncommon Hospitality - Stayed there for a Florida State - Pitt football game, Acrisure Stadium is an easy and lovely 15-minute walk across the park (literally). Tons of restaurants and pubs in the area.
Loved the opulence of this restored mansion and the incredible hospitality of the owners - breakfast was fantastic and there were an array of snacks set out in the evening (everything complementary), plus guests are encouraged to make use of the common areas, including the incredible stone front porch (photos below).
Couldn't have enjoyed the stay more, don't miss it!
- Marty (10/5): - Would recommend this place to anyone. Staff is great and the chocolate chip cookies are amazing. Breakfast was good and rooms were great. Unique place i would definitely visit again.
- Mark (10/5): - Absolutely wonderful hosts who take the extra time to ensure that us, as guests, experience the best that Pittsburgh has to offer. And their chocolate chip cookies that they make on site are most excellent...
- Dennis (10/5): Great Choice - Karl and Jeff are wonderful hosts and helpful. They helped us develop our plans for taking in the sites in Pittsburgh. The Inn is very clean and well managed. The room was comfortable and Timmy who was our cleaning person did a nice job. The location is good and there is plenty of free parking. It’s a good choice when visiting Pittsburgh
- Melissa (10/5): - This is such a lovely mansion, meticulously brought back to its original beauty. Host was wonderful, with excellent local recommendations, and he made a great continental breakfast. Everything was spotless, and the nearby museums and restaurants were fantastic.
- Kat (10/5): - Gorgeous place! They paid tribute to the original mansion with attention to historic detail, and for that I am grateful. The grand porch in the front is a wonderful place to relax and converse. Super comfy bet in the room 😊
- Barry (10/5): - A Beautiful Bed & Breakfast Inn run by 2 GREAT individuals.
- Pamela (10/5): - It’s a lovely old historic inn, a great place to relax. They had fresh chocolate chip cookies, and the owner was very helpful and friendly. Lots of period furnishings.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Lovely place, charming owner, excellent access to many great locations in Pittsburgh!
- Robert (10/5): - Lovely refurbished period property with great individual rooms and free parking in the street. Nice breakfast included.
There was limited dining in the area (2 of the recommended restaurants were closed)
- Chuck (10/5): A wonderful place to stay. - Jeff was an amazing host to us. Gave us map of the area to help us walk to the ballpark safely, advice on places to eat and see. Beautiful structure with a great front porch for an evening glass of wine!
- Ken (10/5): - A great stay in this historic mansion, with fantastic hosts.
- Vincent (10/5): Excellent! - What a beautiful home! Super friendly and all you could possibly need!
- Tammy (10/5): - If you value or love history you will LOVE this restored mansion. Jeff was fantastic and very welcoming. Wished we could have stayed longer. The attention to detail was spot on!! Just lovely. Thank you Jeff and staff for restoring this mansion and sharing it with us.
- Gregory (10/5): Unique and excellent place to stay. - Unique place to stay. Owner is very friendly and knowledgeable about places to go and to eat. Couldn’t have been more helpful. Nice, safe location. We were there for baseball as stadium is about 15 min walk away. Felt safe walking to hotel after Friday night game. Room was very clean. Breakfast can get a bit crowded. There are no elevators which wasn’t an issue for us, but could be for some. The above are the only 2 minor issues. Everything else was great. Would stay here again.
- Jacob (10/5): - This was the best, most beautiful, most comfortable rental we’ve EVER had (and we are frequent travelers!) Jeff was an amazing host. The property is a beautifully restored mansion in a nice park side neighborhood. We got in after a long drive and after some great recommendations and a tour from Jeff, we intended to go out to lunch, but our room was so comfortable that we took a long nap instead. Later that night, after dinner at a nice restaurant and drinks at the pub around the corner from the mansion, we arrived back and dug into the snacks that were left out for us (best home made cookies around!) Our anniversary weekend getaway was so comfortable, romantic, and beautiful thanks to this rental. We will absolutely return. Thank you so much again Jeff for everything!
- robert (10/5): - Loved our stay here and Karl was super friendly and helpful!! We stayed in the Mr. Boggs room which was very large and roomy with a view of the park. There is a nice porch out front and an awesome courtyard, all beautifully landscaped!! Within walking distance of food, stadiums, the aviary and museums. A park is right across the street. We parked the car and never had to drive it until we left. Highly recommend this wonderful place.
- Susan (10/5): - Beautiful property in a nice neighborhood; walkable to several eating & entertainment options with knowledgeable & helpful hosts.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Lovely mansion-like venue. The owner Karl is a very nice man. The breakfast offerings are great. The room was clean. Great bed.
- Randall (10/5): - The restoration that Jeff and Karl have done is magnificent. It felt like an upscale, historic inn at the price of a modest hotel.
Very convenient to stadiums, Allegheny General Hospital, the National Aviary and other North Side attractions, as well as a short cab or bus ride from downtown.
- Jennifer (10/5): - The place is gorgeous and the owners we so nice and welcoming! They even went out of their way to give us directions, informed us of places to visit and eat and had homemade cookies set out for the guests! Best inn experience we have ever had!
- Stephen (10/5): Nice comfortable stay - This was a great property, with nicely decorated rooms. Jeff and Karl (owners) are very knowledgeable on the city and neighborhood. They took great pride in having things set and ready for guest. I would certainly recommend this place if visiting for a game or anything on the north side of Pittsburgh.
- Marius (10/5): - Historic property, telling the story about Pittsburgh
