Guest Reviews
- Kathleen (8/5): - The staff at Hiliki house are great, and really love the area. Just a bit too rustic for what I paid.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - PLEASE BE AWARE. This place overbooks clients so when you arrive they say there is NO reservation under your name. Then they send you to another location of much lower quality. People at the new location confirmed that they do this all the time. It is not a mistake but rather a scam. I left that second location and was lucky to find a nice hotel nearby for the same price. I did get a refund but most people will probably stay where they are forced to stay due to lack of options and uncertainty. I strongly recommend not staying at the Hiliki House.
- Al (8/5): - It was a trip to past. House maintained the architecture and decor of 1900s.
- Jua Dai (8/5): - The hotel is located very close to the historical city center only 10min away from the beach. The hotel itself is clean and has a old Zanzibari atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and helpful, IF they are present
- morning receptionist hardly present, so you can not inform yourself in case of anything
- Breakfast is basic but good! A very friendly lady arranges your breakfast, however it takes half an hour plus if you are with more than two persons in the breakfast area
- When, like us, you want to book the room with the bathroom on the other side of the hall be aware that fellow guests (and even people from outside) use your bathroom, even if they say the bathroom is only for you to use. The receptionists just allow this and do not inform other guests. But if you have no problem with a stranger depositing a big load before you go for your shower, this room is perfect for you!
- Please check with other taxi driver (private hire) in the city center before you book at the hotel. The hotel will not search for the best price for you. The difference can be quite big (up to 10 USD).
- WiFi connection only functioning (not more than 5 mbps) at the reception desk, and drops dramatically when staff uses the WiFi
Nevertheless, we really enjoyed our stay in Stone Town and Hiliki house gave us a good start for our holiday!
- Ruben (8/5): - It was very well located, the room was nice, didnt have shampoo, erlax environment, stuff very helpfull
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Well located, but rooms lack comfort: sheets are stained and ripped, mosquito net has several large holes, there’s a damp smell.
- Kasmira (8/5): - Our stay was ok, basics provided, room was comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Union was decent value for the price paid. Nicely located right on the beach with beach side restaurants. Washrooms could be better (water temperature, electricity).
- Jharna (8/5): - Good value for money.
Breakfast was excellent but very slow service.
- Agata (10/5): Nice little atmospheric hotel - From the time we checked in we felt very welcome and at ease. Hotel has nice feel to it with traditional decorations. Breakfast was tasty and fresh. Would definitely recommend it.
- Hayden (4/5): Disappointing - Stayed at this property for a week over Christmas 2017. On arrival following a long flight and visa process I was told that the water was not working and would be fixed in 30 minutes. I unpacked my bag and went and had dinner and when I returned around 7.30pm the water was still not working. I was moved to another room in another building which was a significant step down from the original building. It was very old, smelt moldy and the bathroom was very dirty with male urinal tokens in the shower to mask the moldy smell. I wont bore you with every drama experienced at this hotel, needless to say I changed rooms on (4) separate occasions due to, water issues, double booking, air conditioning not working. Accommodation in the main house was comfortable and quite nice, breakfast was very basic and no sign of customer service, very slow and poorly managed. The manager of the hotel was very nice and spoke very good English however he was not always there, some days not at all. Other staff spoke very broken English and were not overly helpful or friendly. Overall, a very disappointing stay and not worth the money. Explore other options :)
- Katherine (8/5): Cute spot good location - Hotel was great, the only issue was the creaky bed that sounded like it might collapse any time we rolled over!
- Mr D A (10/5): A friendly B & B. - Hiliki House is a friendly B & B in a quiet area on the edge of Stone Town. Rooms are well furnished with carved wooden furniture and there is a relaxing sitting room overlooking Victoria Gardens. The breakfast is tasty and overall the place is a good value mid range option.
- nancy (10/5): - The setting was fabulous. Abboud went out of his way to make us feel at home and help us with any questions we had. The breakfast was fantastic.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Enjoyable stay - I greatly enjoyed my stay at Hiliki House. The rooms are simple but nicely decorated and clean, staff is friendly and very helpful, breakfast was excellent, and the location was perfect - conveniently located yet in a quiet peaceful area. Good value for Zanzibar. Highly recommended.
- Jarek (10/5): Very nice little hotel, great location, - perfect service above the usual standard, very willing to perfect manager,
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing Bed&Breakfast - Fantastic place in a restored Stone Town house. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and the breakfast was probably the best I had in all my trip! I absolutely recommend it!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great hotel in Stone Town - The hotel staff was incredibly kind and accommodating at every turn- from upgrading our room, to bringing our luggage there when we checked in too early. Overall, a great experience!
- Margaret (10/5): - Hiliki House is a nice, relaxed place to stay within easy reach of all of Stone Town's sites and restaurants, but far enough away from the center to offer calm and quiet. The rooms, while simple, are comfortable with air conditioning, fans, mosquito nets and hot water. The breakfast was a real delight for me with fresh juice, plentiful coffee, tasty breads and a selection of fruit. The staff are kind and helpful. I appreciated the self-serve 'honor' drinks bar for those times I forgot to pick up some cold water. The house itself it quite beautiful and I felt the hotel was a good value for the price.
- Markku (10/5): First ever visit to the historic Stone Town - Everything was pleasant and well organized, the breakfast was superb.
