• Maureen (7/5): Good for the price but could be so much more - My husband and I stayed in a triple room at the Kuching Waterfront Lodge a few nights in April. No frills, but clean and quiet, and a great location for us. Kuching Waterfront Lodge is just across the street from the waterfront esplanade—a fairly well maintained paved path along the river, where we hired a small boat for a private river cruise, and took a ferry boat across the river to Fort Margherita. Walk a couple of blocks to the old courthouse (a restored historic building with a small museum and a couple of restaurants), and walk in the other direction to the museum of Chinese history in Kuching. The staff were pleasant and the lobby was old-time interesting. We had a quiet room, away from the front of the building. The a/c was good and the bedding was clean. Wet bathroom (not uncommon in Malaysia). The interesting part of the hotel stops at the lobby, as the upstairs could be anywhere. Our room was dark and a bit musty. One wall was painted dark grey, there was only one (overhead) light, and the window had colored glass so not much light was coming in. No bedside tables, and the towels were worn. At one time the hotel offered breakfast, but they stopped due to Covid. Not sure why they haven’t started again, as the space is still there--- with a (now communal) refrigerator, hot water pot, and toaster. A simple breakfast would have made for easier mornings. There is a front verandah overlooking the waterfront, but it wasn’t welcoming. Overall impression is that Kuching Waterfront Lodge is resting on its laurels.

• Sita (9/5): I would stay here again if I come back to Kuching. - It’s a nice vibe, the hotel is original of the last times, nice wooden furniture. Room was comfortable. Staff very helpful. There’s a kitchen to make tea and coffee. It’s right in front of the Kuching Water front with many shops and choice of restaurants.
• Heather (4/5): - We had really looked forward to staying here based on previous reviews (including my Lonely Planet guide) and it was a complete disappointment due to the cleanliness. Such a pity as the old shop front building exudes character . The room was damp and only had a curtained window into a corridor. The tiny bathroom and bedroom floor were not very clean. But worst of all were the mouldy pillows, stained sheets and overall damp. I removed the pillows and slept in my own sleeping bag liner as no way was getting into the bed! As we hadn't realised how bad the bedding was until too late (and we had to leave very early the next day) we didn't get the chance to complain in person but there really is no excuse for providing this poor standard. I am usually pretty forgiving of small independent properties having travelled extensively on a budget but this was not good and the kitchen facilities looked tired and dusty too. We didn't have breakfast there as we left early but not sure what you would actually get as supposedly included in the price.

Room hadn’t been cleaned...dust everywhere. Window opened onto sitwell thst staff used as a smoking room...hence cigarette smoke smell in the tiny room.

Oltretutto sulle scale di legno rendendo rumorosa la notte a causa del continuo salire e scendere di corsa delle persone

• Mile (10/5): Pleasant stay in a stylish heritage building right on the waterfront - Beautiful, stylish and historical building right on the waterfront. Very pleasant room. Also, very kind and helpful staff. All was good.

But we stayed only one night. Our room had windows facing the corridor, and people passing by were quite audible—fortunately, there weren’t many of them.

When we asked about the back gate, she would provide an answer but not showing us where the they are ( the buttons to press for the auto gate). She expects us to figure it out. When we asked again the following day, she said abruptly that she has told us the day before. If we got what she meant, we don’t need to ask. Her English is unclear. A few things. The shower wall was dirty. The linens have stained and the pillows and quilt are old. Guests smoke where non smoking zone are.
• AGATA (10/5): Bardzo polecam! - Miejsce z klimatem. Świetna lokalizacja. Blisko atrakcji Kuching i knajpek z dobrym jedzeniem. Blisko do przystanku skąd można dojechać do Parku Narodowego Baku. Dobrze działające WiFi. Można przyczepić się do czystości.

If you are looking for any extra comfort (view, balcony, a nice corner in the room for reading, drinking, etc.), this is not the one for you. But if you mostly just use the room for sleep, rest, it is.

• Lucie (1/5): Très déçue on m'a hurler dessus... - Je me suis fait hurler dessus par la dame à l’accueil, qui m’a accusée de ne pas avoir payé la taxe de séjour. Elle m’a demandé un justificatif et j’ai alors réalisé qu’on ne m’en avait pas remis à mon arrivée, suite à mon règlement. Agacée par la situation, elle s’est mise à me crier dessus en affirmant que mon comportement était inacceptable. Elle est devenue très désagréable, allant jusqu’à me dire à la fin : « Prends ton sac et casse-toi, j’ai du travail. » J’ai essayé de lui expliquer ma réaction, mais elle ne voulait rien entendre… À part cet incident, la propreté laisse à désirer : il n’y a pas de service de ménage et il manque des prises dans la chambre. Je ne recommande pas cet hôtel : vous risquez d’être accusés à tort et de vous faire hurler dessus.

• Grant (10/5): Superb Stay in Kuching - We had a great stay at the Lodge Waterfront Lodge. Don't expect the Hilton, but the historic charm and location can't be beat for this quaint little town. The staff was great and for the three star adventure traveler, this gem is a special find. A+++ for this couple.

• Lilian (7/5): Bien ubicado pero muy caro para lo que es. - La ubicación en pleno barrio chino es perfecta para visitar kuching y queda a media hora tanto de semengoh como del parque nacional de bako. Es muy antiguo, las instalaciones son muy viejas, las sábanas tenían manchas y agujeros, la estructura de la cama hacía mucho ruido, la iluminación de la habitación, nos tocó la habitación 110 y creo que es la más ruidosa de todo el hotel, pega a la carretera principal y el tráfico de coches y motos es constante, incluso por la noche, nos pilló varios festivales a la vez con música en el paseo marítimo hasta las 3am o más, que obviamente no dejaban dormir… Después de varios días por Malasia y visitar varios hoteles sin duda kuching es la ciudad más cara y peor en cuanto calidad / precio. Por este mismo precio pagamos un hotel en Kuala Lumpur con piscina infinity, dos baños, comedor cocina espectacular…

• Annina68 (9/5): Ottima posizione - ottima posizione per girare a piedi. a circa 15 minuti a piedi (circa 1 Km) per andare al Topspot Food Court e a circa 600mt per prendere il Bus per Bako NP. personale molto disponibile e gentilissimo. stanza al primo piano ampia e pulita. consigliato! vicino c'è un market aperto h24, dove fare anche colazione. sotto i portici tanti negozi per acquistare souvenir a prezzi convenienti rispetto ad altri posti nel Borneo e Kuala Lumpur.

De wifi-code veranderde elke dag en we kregen het vaak niet aan de praat. We hadden internet via onze e-sim, daarom hebben we niet bij de receptie om hulp gevraagd. Ik weet zeker dat ze ons dan goed geholpen zouden hebben. Onze tweepersoonskamer was een beetje krap, maar goed genoeg!
• Deborah (10/5): We would definitely stay here again - From the moment we stepped into the lobby, we were treated with warmth, courtesy and a desire to help us make the most of our time in Kuching. Character- laden decor in the public areas. Comfortable and perfectly adequate rooms. Ours were en suite but shared facilities and hot/cold drinking water dispensers were on each floor. Fabulous location within easy walking distance of a large portion of the "sights and experiences" of Kuching city. Equally convenient, only a brief walk to two bus stations from where we were able to catch local buses to Semmengoh and to Bako jetty. "Grab" was an inexpensive option for our visit to the Cultural Village. Numerous inexpensive local eateries and street food vendors close by, including a food court in the local mall (a 6 or 7 minute walk) featuring a dozen or more traditional food vendors. The second floor balcony provided a prime viewing spot for the nightly light spectacular over the river. If you expect luxury, go elsewhere. However, if you value the sense of being immersed in an authentic comfortable and unique location, this is it. The only irritation - the shower heads were of the type that can twist and spray across the room unexpectedly - so do not take dry clothes into the end suite!
