Luca (7/5): Sarebbe una struttura fantastica come posizione ma il costo complessivo non ha proprio senso. C'è anche qualche prob - La posizione sul mare, sia della camera che del ristorante. Avevamo una suite con accesso diretto al mare. Personale gentile e premuroso Il ristorante è un problema anche se sarebbe uno dei fiori all'occhiello come posizione. Menù pretenzioso che propone ostriche e piatti elaborati con porzioni troppo limitate per indurti a prendere altro. Infastidisce la logica speculativa tanto da far pagare l'acqua 8 euro, un calice di vino locale 15€ e una cicoria e fave 25€.

Sofia (10/5): Amazing last part of our trip, enjoying dips in the sea and such a relazing time with an incredible atmosphere and atten - Having breakfast by the sea every morning was the best moment of our day. Amazing, amazing, amazing. Staff was always kind and attentive, great location to go from and to the different areas around. The only two suggestions we would like you to share are trying to find better mattresses for the beds. The one in our room was kind of curved in the middle. Also, the amount of food for breakfast is a lot, it would be nice to be more mindful with the amounts so that so much food does not go to waste, specially if it is so goooood.
Tatiana (10/5): Unforgettable stay in this stunning place - This is a truly unique place on the entire coast, as it’s located straight by the sea. We were kindly offered an upgrade to the seafront room and that made our stay absolutely unforgettable. We loved every minute of it from having breakfasts on the private terrace to falling asleep to the sound of the waves. Staff is utmost attentive, food is great, and the whole place is simply one of a kind. The only thing to be mindful about is non-residents accessing the swimming area right in-front of the private suites from the nearby beaches. It is not easy to police of course, but having sometimes loads of people in there (and often with kids and various inflatable swimming gear!) really does ruin what is otherwise such a serenely peaceful atmosphere. Perhaps the staff could keep an eye on it and try telling outside people not to cross over the water barriers.

Pools were fabulous-wish some were a bit more heated. Room was phenomenal. Food choices were somewhat limited every night at restaurant and for room service. Portions were small and price high. We would call to the restaurant several times to order room service dinner and there was no answer. When we walked down to restaurant it was not very busy so wondering why no one answered the phone?

melisac29 (2/5): Overrated. Nasty staff. Ran down. 3 star hotel - Hard to believe how this is still a 5 hotel star and prt of SLH. We have witnessed the decay of this property and their service quality over the years. We used to be regular guests coming twice a year for the last 5 years but at this point this has hit its lowest. Other than the view and breakfast by the water this is not 5 stars hotel nor they make an effort to make you feel your 1500-1800 euro per night is worth it. In this opportunity upon arrival we were denied the option to have dinner at the hotel any night (basically the only reason why we still come here for) due to events that had been booked. They blamed it on us saying we should have reserved (when a pre check e mail does not indicate that) and when its hard to believe that a hotel can simply deny guests and not accommodate options for dinner and prioritize outside reservations. After begging we were offered a really late table and seating for one of the worst dinning experiences ever. A dinner for 4 people costed nearly 1000 euro, awful service, rushed, lack of attention from all staff, grumpy waiters denied the option to remove any fish from their existing menu to accomodate my husbands allergies. We again had to beg for a simple risotto or pasta after being told no, more than twice by waiter and chef. Completely overpriced food, 60 euro for a pasta wirh a tiny bit of lobster. The fresh fish cart to choose from no longer exists. Last day we had to beg for our room to be cleaned at 6:30 pm. Staff is impersonal, unhelpful and manager Francesco is slippery and has the same bad attitude when asked to accommodate any needs. Rooms ran down, facilities old and dirty in some places as well. Your money will be better spent at any of the other hotels nearby.Stay away from this one…

Breakfast in the room's balcony and than jump in the water. the food was excellent, so was the service of all the staff. Nothing really !! Ecreything was perfect

Nicholas (9/5): A fantastic hotel in a stunning setting, only small details from a 10/10 - We stayed for four nights and had an excellent stay. The staff are some of the kindest and most service minded I’ve met anywhere, we were not well our first couple of days and they looked after us very well. Location is perhaps a little isolated (nothing much in walking distance) but totally beautiful, private, peaceful and so close to the sea you can hear the waves lapping against the rocks in your room. Our room had a semi-private roof terrace you can walk up to and enjoy the sun from. It is spotlessly clean everywhere, probably the cleanest hotel we’ve ever stayed in. Rooms and facilities are great, super comfy beds, beautiful bathrooms with great showers. Our only negatives are that the information around what is on offer can sometimes be a little confusing, for example for our first two days no one brought us a breakfast menu, so we didn’t even know we could have eggs made/juices etc until day 3 and just had breads and fruit. This despite us being the only guests in the hotel at the time, kind of odd. The restaurant is also extremely fine dining focused. We were treated to an array of amuse bouches etc as well as what we ordered - all very technical and pretty. But we didn’t think any of it tasted that great. One pasta dish we tried was a huge disappointment also, dried pasta being used. Why put so much extreme effort into smaller dishes and then not do so on the main thing tourists travel to Italy to eat? The main meals we ate which were more simple like the Puglian oven roasted fish were excellent. I would advise them to consider keeping it a bit more simple. I love fine dining, but if you don’t accompany it with getting the basic stuff correct what’s the point? Overall it is a fantastic hotel with wonderful staff. Just those small details in my opinion take it off a perfect score

Jane (7/5): Relaxing retreat on the coast near Monopoli - Sited by the sea the location was quiet and relaxing. I was there for a wedding and friends staying in central Monopoli said the town was very noisy at night. I slept like a log until 9.00 most mornings. There was no greed over sunbeds and with a choice of pools and private beach it felt very luxurious. There is a sauna and a whirlpool although this was located right outside another room so I didn’t use. The food is very good and no more expensive and better presented than other restaurants along the coast. Food is cheaper in Monopoli but overall I thought the restaurant here superior. The staff are exceptionally attentive and helpful. They even organised a manicurist as I discovered the spa at the sister hotel only offers massages. Only a small quibble. They offer a choice of breakfast on the terrace outside your room or in the main restaurant, but you have to fix your time the night before. Although the slots are open between 7.30 am and 10.30 a.m. I like a little more flexibility on holiday and it was all a bit too formal and made a great deal of extra work for the staff. I would have preferred a general buffet table and some grains as I don’t eat croissants, cakes etc. Although it’s a north European thing, I like my fruit with cereals and ended up buying my own as I was there for a week. The 2 choices are Continental although they do eggs and bacon to order. I had two perfectly poached eggs on a couple of mornings. A car is definitely recommended. Taxis are very expensive for relatively short distances. There’s a daily bus service (in season) between Savalettri and Monopoli (both worth visiting) and it stops directly outside the hotel, both ways. Cost 1 Euro 60. as opposed to E35 minimum. But check the timetable. There are gaps during siesta hours. They don’t tell you there’s a bus, and reception seemed sceptical about me using it, but I found this service very handy.
Charles (10/5): Hidden gem - It is situated in a beautiful location. Thought you could walk into Monopoli but it is much further out of town than I thought. Really need a car. Dinner was a tasting menu which was really just too much food. Would have preferred Al a crate. But delicious!
sarahjT4703RK (6/5): Nice location but… - Nice location but…. First the good, the location is amazing, nice concept of serving breakfast in your private terrace so you can just roll out of bed. Breakfast was pretty sparse, fruit consisted of 5 grapes, 2 tiny pieces of pineapple, melon and passionfruit. First morning we were not offered any extras then we found out they do eggs, pancakes etc. when you are paying upwards of 1000 euro a night… The whole place is very tired, needs a lot of money spent to bring it to 5 star standard. Not sure how it is included in Small Luxury Hotels group. Furniture is poor. Pool chairs are uncomfortable. Towels and bed linen threadbare. Our shower you could barely turn around in. Food options very limited, you can either dine in the restaurant (fine dining and heavy on the seafood) or pay 30 euro for a club sandwich which was cold by the time it got to our room. Housekeeping haphazard. Pools are cold even in August. This place used to be a fish hatchery hence the 7 pools which are mostly waist deep.

Katharine (9/5): Unmatched location! - The hotel is beautiful, easy to get to and the location is fantastic. The entire hotel was very clean, private and the pools and food are fantastic. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. The view from the sea terrace rooms and the restaurant is hard to beat. Less than a 10 minute drive from Monopoli which was a really lovely town to explore on foot. Only downfall would be how 'new' the staff were, although I guess thats a drawback of going relatively early after the hotel opens for the season. They try to be too fancy and the portions were very small for how expensive it was. Some of the staff were lovely but one lady was snobby. The receptionist, the bag boy and the cleaners were lovely. Part of the wall crumbled onto the bed while my friend was sleeping and sand landed on her head.

It’s a small place, 13 rooms. Nicely situated as overlook the sea one side, pool the other. Rooms are small and very basic. Grossly overpriced. On the plus side, very clean. Nice touch is that each morning breakfast is delivered to you sea view terrace. Huge pool plus three others. Amazing for such a small space. Feels quite stark at the poolside. Weds more furniture and foliage. The place needs son TLC and would be 4/5 Star. Delightful staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Genuinely lovely people.

Christine (10/5): Exceptional and never to be forgotten. - This is a haven designed to relaxation and privacy. Staff were unobtrusive. No signs. No pushiness. Staff were first class and very discrete. Breakfast opposite the Adriatic Sea on your private terrace cannot be put into words. A quiet knock on your patio doors revealed a fabulous breakast set out on blue linen table cloth runner with quality silverware and Villeroy and Bosche crockery. Exceptional and unique. Outside sign didn’t give away the exclusive hotel beyond but perhaps that was deliberate.

Joseph (8/5): A wonderful place for a short getaway but food/restaurant not worth the $. - An amazing property with your own rocked off dip into the Mediterranean. One side of your room is the Adriatic Sea, the other side is the pool. It’s a very small and quiet property. The hotel is adequately staffed and the chamber maids kept the room extremely clean. The staff are extremely kind. For the amount of money, I think the property should have a gym. Especially because there is no way to take a nice long walk- the beach is rocky and ends quickly. Furthermore you’re not in an area where you can take a long walk on the sidewalk. My biggest issue is the menu selection and the cost of the restaurant. To eat at the restaurant you’re required to have a primo and secondo. The portion size allows you to eat both, however for the prices being charged, you can easily go out to dinner for half. The selection at breakfast did not include berries. The fruit platter seemed bigger in the morning included breakfast than in the evening when I paid quite a bit. My wife is gluten free and can’t have cow milk. Other hotels went through amazing efforts to accommodate her allergies. We didn’t receive this kind of service here. There are only 13 rooms- I think they could have and should have done more without me asking.

The hotel is lovely & the rooms are good & this combined with friendly staff. The food in the hotel was amazing, but it is on the more expensive side, so this is worth baring in mind as there is not much else in walking distance of the hotel
knox-a (6/5): Nice hotel but better options nearby - Nice hotel near Bari Monopoli Polignano etc and easy drive to Ostuni Matera etc. A bit tired and lacking polish for the price. We had 3 different room types between 3 couples, pool view, sunset and sunrise suites. Definitely the sunrise/sunset suites the better option. The pool area is good and with only 13 rooms you feel like you have it to yourself. The restaurant a bit lacking in choice and lunch options expensive like €25 for a club sandwich. I drove to their partner hotel once to use the fitness area and found staff rude and only cardio equipment. Some rooms have very small showers difficult to even turn around. Breakfast was great out on your balcony. Overall I thought overpriced for the area and our next stop Canne Bianche a MUCH better option - cheaper and much better hotel in a similar area - see separate review if interested.

Great location, but poor in every other respect. Breakfast was good, but needed to be served on our patio as they had stopped serving buffets. We paid 865 euros per night a rip off. Needs to move off Mr and Mrs Smith Hotels. Furniture was cheap,towels threadbare.

Carola (10/5): Peace, privacy and luxury right on the water's edge. - If you like peace, quiet, privacy, small hotels, and falling asleep to the sound of the waves, this is for you. There are just few places along Italy's coast where you can find such privacy right on the water's edge - it will never be crowded here, not even in the middle of August. Your shady, private patio touches the sea, you can jump in the water directly from you room. Rooms and bathrooms (we had 2 bathrooms in the room) are big, beds are comfortable, toiletries luxurious and plentiful. The private beach is ample, sunbeds comfy; if you need a pool, there are 5, one of which is heated, even in summer. Bar and restaurant are right on the water, food is delicious, seafood as fresh as can be. Service is excellent but discrete. Close enough to 2 airports to be worth even a short break. We would have loved to stay longer, though. Breakfast is served on your own private patio right on the water's edge. We loved it, but you have to order food and drinks the night before - you have plentiful choice, but if you are a buffet lover you might find it restrictive. You pay a price for the location and the luxury, in September it was good value for us, but August might be different.
denisemF2739ST (6/5): Not coming back - Unique location in front of the sea It is one of the few places in Puglia where you can enjoy the sea directly from your room. The breakfast service in the room ‘s terrace in front of the sea are the only two good points of this hotel. The room (560€/night) is oldish with a terrible decoration taste. Specially the furniture, but that is irrelevant in front of the service. The availability to help and do their best is inexistent . We ask for a two hour late check out that was not provided. We stayed in the pool while watching the ladies coming to our room late in the afternoon to clean… I was supposed to be coming at the end of September for a beneficent party in another very famous masseria close from here. I did the reservation in the morning and in the afternoon the party was cancelled because an accident happened to the organizer. I email the hotel to cancel the room, after only 6 hours from the reservation. Instead, they charged my credit card with 100% of the amount. When I called to explain the situation they didn’t accept any excuse form my part but at the end I could manage to change the date and paying 200€ for the upgrade and one person more. Even the restaurant is expensive with Michelin star prices, without the stars. With an standard ambience, quality of food and service. The only thing remarkable is the massage performed at the sister hotel. I won’t be coming back

Now it is good three stars hotel, do not expect more. The friendly staff seemed embarrassed that there is no internet, no hot water, the room smells bad, the sauna with holes in the walls, the restaurant looks more like a cafe and the catch of the day was clearly not today, but three days ago. It was shabby but was not chic But it is nevertheless the unique place, because of the sea near you room, that you may swim like on Maldives from the door. Because an excellent breakfast on you terras, unforgettable. Because of the brilliant enormous swimming pool. If you agree to pay three time more for it - it is a must to come.

BM011990 (2/5): Worst Small Luxury Hotel-Experience ever! - Never wrote a negative review before, but this one is absolutely necessary to prevent other people to do the same mistake we did! The service at the reception was already very low level, but seeing our bedroom was an absolute disaster. For EUR 640 per night you get the lowest room-category in this hotel. The room is equipped with an absolute minimum and with furnitures of cheapest standards -we‘ve never seen sth like this before in any Small-Luxury-Hotel. You‘re situated next to the storage for pool material, a small little window is facing the sea, situated far away from the main area of the hotel. The manager didn‘t seem to hear our complaints the first time, switched us to a room of higher category - bigger and terrasse to the sea side. For this cat. you normally pay more than EUR 1000.- per night. Rooms are bigger, view and terrasse are nice - to be fair - but the rest of the room remains the same; not a single bit of quality in anything. This holds also true for the pool area (no pool service, cheapest equipment), for the service in general and the breakfast you get in the morning - a real disappointment. This hotel is an absolute rip-off and joke!! We also wrote to the SLH-Management to remove this hotel from their members-list, its not keeping up with their usual standards at all!
ClaretBadger (8/5): Sea views and lots of pools! - A lovely position on the edge of the sea with a boutique hotel feel and a great bar and restaurant to take in the stunning sea views. There is a large heated and unheated pool, with smaller pools dotted around the rooms so you can always find a pool to yourself! The room was bright, clean with two bathrooms and a picture window to take in the views. Lovely to hear the sound of the sea as you sleep. It would have been nice to have been offered drinks etc whilst sunbathing by the pool, but otherwise I cannot fault the place. Lovely friendly staff and an amazing choice of breakfast options.
CRSwiss (10/5): - Spectacular property with unique sea access directly from your room. Enjoying breakfast on the water was a treat! The pools behind the rooms are incredibly spacious for the small number of rooms in the hotel. The restaurant is also the best located of the region, straight on the water. Food is a bit too creative for our taste, but that may fit others. Staff in the hotel is very nice and helpful.
dagGothenburg_Sweden (4/5): Not a 5 star hotel and not worth the price - The hotel is beautifully located by the sea and all rooms are sea facing. The hotel is also conveniently located to explore Puglia by car. My wife and I visited a number of towns within an hour from the hotel, including Bari, Cisternino, Polignano a Mare, Ostuni, Monopoli, Alberobello and Locorotondo. There are two big outdoor pools at the hotel. One heated and one not. No children under the age of 12 welcome, which is good if one does not like having children around during vacation. The staff is very friendly but as there is no hotel manager present to orchestrate the running of the hotel one can get the feeling that things are run a bit ad hoc by instinct rather than by a certain common strategy or philosophy. Being experienced travellers the sense that stayed with us was that for the price we paid we expected much more. The rooms are not very well insolated so one hears everything the neighbors do in their room and on their terrace. Breakfast was served in the room or terrace. We always prefer a buffet but here one had to fill out a menu card the night before and we found it rather awkward not being able to choose from a buffet. The dinner was a disappointment. No new or creative dishes. Very traditional pasta and seafood/fish. We even had to complain about the meat the first time we ordered meat. Was impossible to eat and even the staff agreed that it should not have been served. Next day we told the staff that we wanted good meat for dinner and that evening the quality of the meat was very good, even though still very 70th -ish in preparation. If the dinner room/restaurant is busy service is slow. We have a feeling that the number of kitchen staff is the same whether 5 or 15 tables are occupied. Would we recommend this hotel? Definitely not for the price we paid. There are too many downsides and too few upsides. The hotel needs to really refurbish all rooms and make them better insolated. To hear the neighbour brush their teeth and flush the toilet is a little bit too much. We were lucky with the weather during our stay. We could sunbathe and also swim in the sea. If weather is bad there is nothing to do in the hotel. All facilities (SPA, sports etc) are located in a sister hotel some distance apart. Even if they arrange transport to the sister hotel, it is an inconvenience not having any facilities except swimming pools in the hotel. We stayed for 5 days. I am member of Small Luxury Hotels of the world and have the highest status level. But there was no recognition of this at all during our stay. Usually you are entitled to an upgrade, some perks etc. Unless the small fruit platter we received the first day was this recognition...... So, a beautifully located little `gem to be` with the above changes and a more involved management team with a clearer strategic purpose for the hotel and staff and a more modern menu, a beach side hotel 3.0 for the 21st century.
Epicureously (6/5): All the gear no idea - We stayed here for a couple of days during the last weekend of September. The weather was great and we had a fabulous time. The hotel had only 13 rooms and therefore exclusivity is the primary selling point. The hotel is in a wonderful location right on top of the sea with its own private beach and even has created a private swimming area in the sea due to the rocky entry. The rooms are well appointed and spacious. They have a private patio area at both ends, one overlooking the sea and the other end looking at the pool area. There is also steps up to a roof terrace. There are several pools but the main one is massive for a hotel of this size. Why then you may ask have I only scored it average. The key areas of concern are around service. First issue, is the breakfast idea is completely flawed. The idea being the night before you tick the things you want and leave the list outside. In the morning at your stated time you open your doors and the breakfast is set up for you in your terrace overlooking the sea. Nice idea but in reality if anything needs changing, for example poached eggs like cricket balls, cold coffee or lack of butter etc, then you either have to find someone or wait for whenever one of the other rooms have their breakfast at some point. On top of this we had the misfortune to be next to a room with two very boisterous Australian ladies who puffed cigs and screeched throughout our breakfast. Not exactly the exclusive romantic breakfast I was expecting. In addition, the raw materials used were very average. We then went to the small private beach which is lovely. Very difficult to enter the beautiful sea though due to very sharp and slippy rocks. Quite relaxing for a while until not only did our Aussie friends turn up but half a dozen more Aussies also turned up from their sister hotel. Getting a drink on the beach also requires you getting your shirt and shoes on and walking to the bar to order it. No prospect of anyone coming to you. We took an 800m walk along the public beach where you will find a decent bar and a very sandy and easy access to a turquoise Adriatic Sea. Clean and clear. On our last evening we booked at a Michelin restaurant 3miles down the road. Due Camini-go there if you want to see top service. When we enquired about a taxi we were told it was €40 each way. Since you’ve got no choice unless you want to drive, we did it. That’s just taking advantage. I have reviewed separately the Saleblu restaurant but I must just mention we had Sunday lunch there also which was rubbish in every way. Won’t bore you with details. There’s a few other things but you get the drift. It may be that in peak season when all the Italians come its a different story but for us this is no way an exclusive venue. It’s a nice venue and worth the money just for location.

Martin (10/5): - Fabulous small hotel in all respects - EXCEPT the two small single rooms. they are like monastic prison cells with no direct access to the sea. I have stayed here twice before my latest visit and always loved it. This visit there was only one room available on booking and upon arrival I was shown to this bland depressing single room - tiny window on the sea and that was it. Daylight robbery at 300 Euros. Fortunately the Hotel manager found other rooms for the nights I had booked. But it was an eye-opener to see these 'cells' they were trying to palm off as 'luxury accommodation' at a significant price. Don't get caught with these!

Susanne (10/5): Absoluter Traum für Ruhesuchende - Tolle Anlage, Zimmer mit Terrasse zum Meer. Sehr gediegen und ruhig, viel Privatsphäre. Frühstück auf der eigenen Terrasse, große Auswahl, qualitativ sehr hochwertig. Service überdurchschnittlich. 7 Pools mit unterschiedlichen Temperaturen. Abendessen im Restaurant gut, aber auch hochpreisig. Strandabschnitt zum Schwimmen nicht optimal, war Anfang Mai aber für uns nicht relevant.
