- Chris (10/5): Superb- fully recommend the Black Cabin to anyone travelling in the area. - The Black Cabin at Villa Várzea was absolutely amazing! It is very homely and very clean and is located well in the grounds of Villa Várzea. The hot tub is a brilliant feature and you can relax listening to the sounds of nature around you. The hosts and staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was fantastic- very healthy and homemade and was perfect for a day of cycling ahead. Obrigado! Nothing- it was amazing!

Immense salle de bains avec baignoire. Une petite brochure éditée par les propriétaires est très explicative sur toutes les curiosités de l'île, sur son histoire...rien. Rien. Tout est très bien.

So many details were taken into consideration that other places, including the fancy chains, don't consider. The bed was very comfortable, the location was very close to Sete Cidades and the ocean hot springs. The staff communicated and provided services very well and was very friendly. I'd stay there again!

Monique and the other staff were very helpful and made us feel at home. The location was perfect too ... very quiet and close to many of the areas we wanted to visit. Breakfast was delicious! We hope to return someday!

- Lorenzo (10/5): Get ready to wind your clock back to more peaceful times :) - I had the pleasure of staying in the Country Suite of beautiful Villa Várzea for 6 nights, and I cannot recommend it enough. The Villa is comprised of two hundred-year-old buildings with a great history, as they were once owned by one of the first doctors on the island. I loved how the design of the spacious interiors still reflects such history, yet without compromising on modern needs. Together with the very quiet and peaceful location of the small village of Várzea, this combination allows for a very relaxing experience that is hard to find elsewhere. All this I could have mostly guessed by reading the description of the house online. What I could not have guessed is that the house is run by lovely locals, some of whom I had the pleasure of meeting and becoming friends with, such as the sweetest receptionist Catarina, Rita, Filomena and the owner Monique, who happens to be the great-granddaughter of the aforementioned physician. In the room, there is also a booklet full of suggested locations to visit, with some interesting descriptions of the history of Villa Várzea and its village. On my last day, I also tried the optional breakfast, which was delicious and included local food. Unfortunately my stay had to come to an end! :D

- Joanna (10/5): Exceptional - You can feel like in 17th century original Portuguese villa - all historical equipment is for you to use! It's magical! I felt like Lady Makbet - I would absolutely recommend this to many people for quite nice experience! The living room is spacious and has only a small window - it's was too dark for me, even with two lights on.

- Elizabeth (8/5): Quirky comfortable place in a great location. - The location of the hotel was great, and the view from the window was too. It is situated at the beginning of some great walks which is a real bonus. The apartment was spacious and the house very quiet. It was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. There is a fridge, kettle and coffee maker in the room, with plates, knives and forks and chopping board all for you to use, as there is no breakfast included. It was nice to have a folder with information about the history of the house and the owners, and more information with recommendations about restaurants in the area and the walks. Altogether a very nice stay. The check-in was ok, it would have been nice to have someone around with a more formal reception area. The bathroom is big enough to have a separate shower, as there is only one over the bath in the room we had, with no shower curtain.
- Sarah (10/5): Amazing and relaxing, wish I stayed longer! - I stayed in the Country Suite for 1 night, the room is beautifully decorated and had a helpful book about São Miguel Island with recommendations for restaurants and places to visit whilst on the Island. I also liked the bath salts and the reduction in plastic for the toiletries. The villa and area is peaceful and is only about a 10 minute drive from Sete Cidades, Mosteiros and Feteiras. Wouldn't change a thing!
